So the story of man runs in a dreary circle, because he is not yet master of the earth that holds him. ~ Will Durant
Commanding Nature quotes by Will Durant
If you can't handle the answer, then don't ask the question. ~ T.A. Uner
Commanding Nature quotes by T.A. Uner
It was argued that the Negro was inferior by nature because of Noah's curse upon the children of Ham ... The greatest blasphemy of the whole ugly process was that the white man ended up making God his partner in the exploitation of the Negro. ~ Martin Luther King, Jr.
Commanding Nature quotes by Martin Luther King, Jr.
The nature of the new world system was not so different from the old. It was for the moment more stable, but a reasonable forecast would be that Africa in particular had a century of border wars ahead of it. ~ Daniel Patrick Moynihan
Commanding Nature quotes by Daniel Patrick Moynihan
It's in my nature to fight for the underdog. ~ James Patterson
Commanding Nature quotes by James Patterson
On every travel, we saw beautiful landscapes. ~ Lailah Gifty Akita
Commanding Nature quotes by Lailah Gifty Akita
If pride, that plague of human nature, that source of so much misery, did not hinder it; for this vice does not measure happiness so much by its own conveniences, as by the misery of others; and would not be satisfied with being thought a goddess, if none were left that were miserable, over whom she might insult. Pride thinks its own happiness shines the brighter, by comparing it with the misfortunes of other persons; that by displaying its own wealth they may feel their poverty the more sensibly. ~ Thomas More
Commanding Nature quotes by Thomas More
Money never made a man happy yet, nor will it. There is nothing in its nature to produce happiness. The more a man has, the more he wants. Instead of its filling a vacuum, it makes one. ~ Benjamin Franklin
Commanding Nature quotes by Benjamin Franklin
We will gradually become indifferent to what goes on in the minds of other people when we acquire a knowledge of the superficial nature of their thoughts, the narrowness of their views and of the number of their errors. Whoever attaches a lot of value to the opinions of others pays them too much honor. ~ Arthur Schopenhauer
Commanding Nature quotes by Arthur Schopenhauer
Funny how in a city of 750,000 one could feel so utterly alone and vulnerable - half a million people and no one to protect you. It's partially the nature of the location of Winnipeg. Alone in the Prairies, in the middle of the country, where the wind blows hard and the snow can pile up around your feet while you wait to cross the street. ~ Jan Guenther Braun
Commanding Nature quotes by Jan Guenther Braun
Sunlight is painting. ~ Nathaniel Hawthorne
Commanding Nature quotes by Nathaniel Hawthorne
Words
are powerful
forces of nature.

they are destruction.
they are nourishment.
they are flesh.
they are water.
they are flowers
and bone.

they burn. they cleanse
they erase. they etch.

they can either
leave you
feeling
homeless

or brimming
with home. ~ Sanober Khan
Commanding Nature quotes by Sanober Khan
To care for the natural world is the most effective insurance policy we can have ~ Phil Harding
Commanding Nature quotes by Phil Harding
When the mind is kept away from its preoccupations, it becomes quiet. If you do not disturb this quiet and stay in it, you find that it is permeated with a light and a love you have never known; and yet you recognise it at once as your own nature. Once you have passed through this experience, you will never be the same man again; the unruly mind may break its peace and obliterate its vision; but it is bound to return, provided the effort is sustained; until the day when all bonds are broken, delusions and attachments end and life becomes supremely concentrated in the present. ~ Sri Nisargadatta Maharaj
Commanding Nature quotes by Sri Nisargadatta Maharaj
Octopuses are tough
and not just in the sense that they can take out sharks (both real and computer generated, as in Mega Shark versus Giant Octopus). They're almost pure muscle. With tridirectional muscles in the arms, they're a tad less supple than a well-marbled sirloin, to say the least (though certainly a lot more healthful). So over the centuries, people have been finding ways to make them a little easier on the jaw.
The classic tactic is beating the bejesus out of them on rocks. ~ Katherine Harmon Courage
Commanding Nature quotes by Katherine Harmon Courage
Is it more probable that nature should go out of her course or that a man should tell a lie? We have never seen, in our time, nature go out of her course. But we have good reason to believe that millions of lies have been told in the same time. It is therefore at least millions to one that the reporter of a miracle tells a lie. ~ Thomas Paine
Commanding Nature quotes by Thomas Paine
Here and there, human nature may be great in times of trial, but generally speaking it is its weakness and not its strength that appears in a sick chamber; it is selfishness and impatience rather than generosity and fortitude, that one hears of. There is so little real friendship in the world! – and unfortunately' (speaking low and tremulously) 'there are so many who forget to think seriously till it is almost too late. ~ Jane Austen
Commanding Nature quotes by Jane Austen
In our greatest universities, naturalism - the doctrine that nature is all there is - is the virtually unquestioned assumption that underlies not only natural science but intellectual work of all kinds. ~ Philip Johnson
Commanding Nature quotes by Philip Johnson
A specter is haunting the modern world, the specter of crypto anarchy. Computer technology is on the verge of providing the ability for individuals and groups to communicate and interact with each other in a
totally anonymous manner. Two persons may exchange messages, conduct business, and negotiate electronic contracts without ever knowing the true name, or legal identity, of the other. Interactions over networks will be untraceable, via extensive rerouting of encrypted packets and tamper-proof boxes which implement cryptographic protocols with nearly perfect assurance against any tampering. Reputations will be of central importance, far more important in dealings than even the credit ratings of today. These developments will alter completely the nature of government regulation, the ability to tax and control economic interactions, the ability to keep information secret, and will even alter the nature of trust and reputation. ~ Peter Ludlow
Commanding Nature quotes by Peter Ludlow
That by the decrees and volitions, and consequently the providence of God, Scripture (as I will prove by Scriptural examples) means nothing but Nature's order following necessarily from her eternal laws. ~ Baruch Spinoza
Commanding Nature quotes by Baruch Spinoza
For those to whom a stone reveals itself as sacred, its immediate reality is transmuted into supernatural reality. In other words, for those who have a religious experience all nature is capable of revealing itself as cosmic sacrality. ~ Mircea Eliade
Commanding Nature quotes by Mircea Eliade
The tree which moves some to tears of joy is in the eyes of others only a green thing that stands in the way. Some see nature all ridicule and deformity ... and some scarce see nature at all. But to the eyes of the man of imagination, nature is imagination itself. ~ William Blake
Commanding Nature quotes by William Blake
There is not in nature, a thing that makes man so deformed, so beastly, as doth intemperate anger. ~ Alan Bleasdale
Commanding Nature quotes by Alan Bleasdale
Whatever they [antinomians] say of the law, though they cast contempt and disgrace upon it, and upon those who preach it, yet we know that, for the substance of it, it is the image of God, a beam of His holiness. The things therein commanded and forbidden are things morally, and therefore eternally, good and evil; nothing can alter the nature of them. ~ Samuel Bolton
Commanding Nature quotes by Samuel Bolton
The third group called to silence is women. This group is not composed of all women all the time but rather of specific women who were asking questions and speaking in the service. The larger context of these verses demands that we understand these questioning women to be a disruption of the peace and order of the service. This is the reason Paul wrote that 'women should keep silent in the churches' (v. 34). Paul's concern is not just with women (for men too are called to be silent in church); his broader concern is with silence, peace, and order in the worship assembly. This perspective allows us rightly to understand the rest of this chapter, 14:34-40. Paul next tells these specific women to 'be in submission.' We tend to think of this as submission to MEN, but the larger context makes this improbable. Our patriarchal and man-centered culture over the millennia has distorted the meaning of this command to submit. Rather than commanding submission to men, the apostle is commanding SUBMISSION TO THE ORDER OF THE WORSHIP SERVICE, that is, submission to the Holy Spirit. This reading helps us understand the next phrase: 'even as the law says.' Normally LAW in Paul refers to the Old Testament, but it can also have a wider meaning. Nowhere in the Old Testament are women called to be silent, nor are they called to submit to their husbands. Yet there is excellent evidence for biblical and broadly Jewish concern for SILENCE IN WORSHIP before God or the Word of God or while learning f ~ Alan G. Padgett
Commanding Nature quotes by Alan G. Padgett
I'd rather be encouraged by an ant to live than taught to doubt by fifty skeptics. ~ Marty Rubin
Commanding Nature quotes by Marty Rubin
Ablo loved when I made him feel wanted. It was his nature to want to take care of me. He had a need to feel wanted. ~ Nika Michelle
Commanding Nature quotes by Nika Michelle
This common and unfortunate fact of the lack of adequate presentation of basic ideas and motivations of almost any mathematical theory is probably due to the binary nature of mathematical perception. Either you have no inkling of an idea, or, once you have understood it, the very idea appears so embarrassingly obvious that you feel reluctant to say it aloud ... ~ Mikhail Leonidovich Gromov
Commanding Nature quotes by Mikhail Leonidovich Gromov
Live in harmony with nature. ~ Lailah Gifty Akita
Commanding Nature quotes by Lailah Gifty Akita
Perhaps the most overpowering contrast [with the West] is the virtual absence in premodern China of the idea of a transcendent creator God who is distinct from Nature in a fundamental qualitative sense. The Chinese had notions of a supreme god in various guises (that is, 'hypatotheism'), and also, as we have seen, of a somewhat demiurge-like 'transformer' constantly reshaping the cosmos. ~ Mark Elvin
Commanding Nature quotes by Mark Elvin
Then it was that Jo, living in the darkened room, with that suffering little sister always before her eyes and that pathetic voice sounding in her ears, learned to see the beauty and the sweetness of Beth's nature, to feel how deep and tender a place she filled in all hearts, and to acknowledge the worth of Beth's unselfish ambition to live for others, and make home happy by that exercise of those simple virtues which all may possess, and which all should love and value more than talent, wealth, or beauty. ~ Louisa May Alcott
Commanding Nature quotes by Louisa May Alcott
Through nature, through the evolutionary continuum, and ecological relatedness and interdependence of all things, we are as much a part of the wolf as the wolf is a part of us. And as we destroy or demean nature, wolves, or any creature, great or small, we do no less to ourselves. ~ Michael W. Fox
Commanding Nature quotes by Michael W. Fox
This single Stick, which you now behold ingloriously lying in that neglected Corner, I once knew in a flourishing State in a Forest: It was full of Sap, full of Leaves, and full of Boughs: But now, in vain does the busy Art of Man pretend to vie with Nature, by tying that withered Bundle of Twigs to its sapless Trunk: It is at best but the Reverse of what it was; a Tree turned upside down, the Branches on the Earth, and the Root in the Air. ~ Jonathan Swift
Commanding Nature quotes by Jonathan Swift
As the Arabs say, The nature of rain is the same, but it makes thorns grow in the marshes and flowers in the gardens. ~ Anthony De Mello
Commanding Nature quotes by Anthony De Mello
The prospect of an early death sits differently upon each person. In some it gifts maturity far outweighing their age and experience: calm acceptance blossoms into a beautiful nature and soft countenance. In others, however, it leads to the formation of a tiny ice flint in their heart. Ice that, though at times concealed, never properly melts.
Rose, though she would have liked to be one of the former, knew herself deep down to be one of the latter. ~ Kate Morton
Commanding Nature quotes by Kate Morton
The nature of democracy is such that when there's - there'll be revulsion, obviously, towards - that's never going to happen again. ~ Warren Buffett
Commanding Nature quotes by Warren Buffett
I ran through air that held me back. ~ Bridget Collins
