A boy is a man in miniature, and though he may sometimes exhibit notable virtue, as well as characteristics that seem to be charming because they are childlike, he is also a schemer, self-seeker, traitor, Judas, crook, and villain - in short, a man. ~ Robertson Davies
Child Man quotes by Robertson Davies
The child-man, then, is the lost son of a host of economic and cultural changes: the demographic shift I call preadulthood, the Playboy philosophy, feminism, the wild west of our new media, and a shrugging iffiness on the subject of husbands and fathers. He has no life script, no special reason to grow up. Of course, you shouldn't feel too bad for him; he's having a good enough time. ~ Kay S. Hymowitz
Child Man quotes by Kay S. Hymowitz
She, the first-born daughter of water, faced
darkness and smiled. Took mystery as her
lover and raised light as her child. Man that
shit was wild. You should have seen how
they ran. She woke up in an alley with a gun
in her hand. Tupac in lotus form, Ennis' blood
on his hands. ~ Saul Williams
Child Man quotes by Saul Williams
As at this the month last year my life was a mess i lost everything my wife, my job, my house and even my kids it was really bad that i had to go live with my father. First, i lost my job as a result of covering the bad things my best friend committed and there after everything fell to pieces. My family fell apart i fought with my wife always over every little thing i remember we fought over the fact that my credit card was declined a the shopping mall she was well aware of our situation, that is how i lost my job and all that. I think what made her most mad at me, was that i lost my job because i was protecting my friend. Then i started defaulting on my mortgage payment i could not pay up, i could not pay my bills every responsibility in my house was on my wife. She could not do it all alone she need me to be the man of the house and i failed her and my kids. I was ashamed to call myself a man. Then the worst happened, the bank took my house and my family were thrown out. Once again my wife just felt disappointed in me she could no longer take it she had leave me took with her our kids. I became a confused man with nothing to live for. I started drinking and smoking heavily to top it all i had to move in with my father. I had to listen to him all the time telling me how disappointed he was at me. It was like i was blacklisted by every company here in the United State no one wanted to heir me even with my experience and how good i was with what i do it was impossible for me t ~ Derek Rivers
Child Man quotes by Derek Rivers
And who is the hero of that story? Who slew the dragon [totalitarianism]? Yes, it was the ordinary man, the taxpayer, the grunt who fought and won the wars. Yes, it was America and its allies. Yes, it was the great leaders: FDR, de Gaulle, Adenauer, Truman, John Paul II, Thatcher, Reagan. But above all, victory required one man without whom the fight would have been lost at the beginning. It required Winston Churchill. ~ Charles Krauthammer
Child Man quotes by Charles Krauthammer
In very truth, a wise imagination, which is the presence of the spirit of God, is the best guide that man or woman can have; for it is not the things we see the most clearly that influence us the most powerfully; undefined, yet vivid visions of something beyond, something which eye has not seen nor ear heard, have far more influence than any logical sequences whereby the same things may be demonstrated to the intellect. It is the nature of the thing, not the clearness of its outline, that determines its operation. We live by faith, and not by sight. ~ George MacDonald
Child Man quotes by George MacDonald
Hey!" Caleb snapped as he realized Nick was about to lock him on the outside with their attackers. He pushed the door open and glared at him. "No man left behind."
Nick scoffed. "This aint' the army, boy. It's every man for himself. Fall behind. Get eaten ~ Sherrilyn Kenyon
Child Man quotes by Sherrilyn Kenyon
Happy shall we be if we preach believingly, always expecting the Lord to bless his own word. This will give us a quiet confidence which will forbid petulance, rashness, and weariness. If we ourselves doubt the power of the gospel, how can we preach it with authority? Feel that you are a favored man in being allowed to proclaim the good news, and rejoice that your mission is fraught with eternal benefit to those before you. ~ Charles Haddon Spurgeon
Child Man quotes by Charles Haddon Spurgeon
The rich man who gives to the poor does not bestow alms but pays a debt. ~ Ambrose
Child Man quotes by Ambrose
Truly the stars were given for a consolation to man. ~ Henry David Thoreau
Child Man quotes by Henry David Thoreau
In the principle of equality I very clearly discern two tendencies; one leading the mind of every man to untried thoughts, the other prohibiting him from thinking at all. ~ Alexis De Tocqueville
Child Man quotes by Alexis De Tocqueville
A tailor, though a man of upright dealing,
True but for lying,
honest but for stealing,
Did fall one day extremely sick by chance And on the sudden was in wondrous trance. ~ John Harington
Child Man quotes by John Harington
Every artist returns to things. The drawings that you make as a child or as an adolescent and the ideas that you have as a young beginning artist, no doubt they crop up again and again. ~ Elaine De Kooning
Child Man quotes by Elaine De Kooning
In a husband there is only a man; in a married woman there is a man, a father, and mother, and a woman. ~ Honore De Balzac
Child Man quotes by Honore De Balzac
We generally describe the most repulsive examples of man's cruelty as brutal or bestial, implying that such behavior is characteristic of less highly developed animals than ourselves. In fact, however, the extremes of brutal behavior are confined to us: there exists no parallel in nature to our savage treatment of each other. The unmistakable truth is that man is the most vicious and cruel species that ever walked the earth. ~ Hans Askenasy
Child Man quotes by Hans Askenasy
The falseness of the seventeenth century became a large measure of the truth by the nineteenth. Money made the man, or at least went a long way toward doing so; and death became the occasion for a final accounting, a stocktaking of worldly success. Of course, there were other metrics: virtue, martyrdom, political standing, fraternal ties. But it took money to publicize them. The funeral became more and more a standardized commodity whose cost could be matched with exquisite precision to the class and degree of 'respectability' of the deceased. When one bought a funeral, one bought a more or less splendid parade, each additional bauble, each horse, each feather or set of nails adding to the base price. Bit by bit, finery accumulated, and by looking at the account books of an undertaker who specialized in pauper funerals, we can begin to see the bounds of decency in death. ~ Thomas W. Laqueur
Child Man quotes by Thomas W. Laqueur
Have faith, you miserable git," the Burned Man said. "Where there's a will there's a way, and all that. You have made a will, haven't you? ~ Peter McLean
Child Man quotes by Peter McLean
Waging war on his enemies had been Sokolov's habit and his profession for a long time, but being chivalrous to everyone else was simply a basic tenet of having your shit together as a human and as a man. ~ Neal Stephenson
Child Man quotes by Neal Stephenson
The moles nested in my cellar, nibbling every third potato, and making a snug bed even there of some hair left after plastering and of brown paper; for even the wildest animals love comfort and warmth as well as man, and they survive the winter only because they are so careful to secure them. ~ Henry David Thoreau
Child Man quotes by Henry David Thoreau
Truth can only be found in a person's record of actions, not their list of intentions. ~ Suzy Kassem
Child Man quotes by Suzy Kassem
Don't give your son money. As far as you can afford it, give him horses. No one ever came to grief, except honourable grief, through riding horses. No hour of life is lost that is spent in the saddle. Young men have often been ruined through owning horses, or through backing horses, but never through riding them; unless of course they break their necks, which, taken at a gallop, is a very good death to die. ~ Winston Churchill
Child Man quotes by Winston Churchill
Trust me, I never underestimate my charm or any of my other magnificent attributes. They work great on women. Alas, men tend to see me as an unwelcome rival. You, he might listen to. You're good at talking people into things."
"What makes you say that?"
"Because I'm perched in the rafters of a cannery, at risk from a man-slaying magical creature, and spending time with a drunk, a gangster, and an assassin at ... what time is it? ~ Lindsay Buroker
Child Man quotes by Lindsay Buroker
It is a funny thing. A man can make a promise to his God, break it five minutes later and never think about it. With an idle shrug of his shoulders, a man can break solemn promises to his mother, wife or sweetheart, and, except for a slight momentary twinge of conscience, he still won't be bothered very much. But if a man ever breaks a promise to himself he disintegrates. His entire personality and character crumble into tiny pieces, and he is never the same man again.
I remember very well a sergeant I knew in the army. Before a group of five men he swore off smoking forever. An hour later he sheepishly lit a cigarette and broke his vow to the five of us and to himself. He was never quite the same man again, not to me, and not to himself. ~ Charles Willeford
Child Man quotes by Charles Willeford
What is a man, anyway? Everything I see around me in popular culture tells me a man is he who screws and kills. But everything I see around me in life tells me a man is he who makes money. ~ Marilyn French
Child Man quotes by Marilyn French
When you found yourself carrying another life inside you, and you were only a child yourself, you'd automatically forget all about the grunts and pains of labour. What had truly conquered your whole thoughts then were the shock, shame and panic. ~ Diyar Harraz
Child Man quotes by Diyar Harraz
His voice was reassuring and calm, his expression soft, his eyes brighter than ever. Oh Ahura Mazda, she'd never wanted any man so intently in all her life. She ached to have him touch her, kiss her, taste her. And Ivar did as she wished. He put her hand to his nose to smell her skin, kissed her inner wrist to taste her, his lips lingered over her racing pulse. Finally, it was confirmed in actions and direct words, spoken aloud and repeated seven times… She felt the rush of desire ripping through her body, an intense sensation of warmth upon her skin, the blissful waves of uneasiness swamped through her, tingling her nerves. ~ Widad Akreyi
Child Man quotes by Widad Akreyi
After a summer trip to Switzerland, which was rich in experiences, I started writing. In the beginning, I aimed at descriptions of nature and folk life until, as the years passed, the description of man became my chief interest. ~ Henrik Pontoppidan
Child Man quotes by Henrik Pontoppidan
It's been a long time since I've loved someone, but I know what it feels like. When you turn from me, it hurts. When you think badly of me, I think badly of myself. When you do stupid, suicidal things, I want to slap you upside the head and demand to know how you can be so brilliant and so blind at the same time." Tybalt's expression was calm. "If that's not love, what is it?"

"Why are you telling me this?" I whispered.

"Because we're probably going to die today." He waved his free hand toward the street. "I've always tried not to lie to you; I've seen how you react when others do. Dying without telling you how I felt would be lying. I've been patient. I've given you time to recognize my feelings, and I've seen you choose a man who loved the girl you were, not the woman you are. Now he's gone, and I can't be patient anymore. I love you, October. I'll be sorry if we die here, but I won't be sorry I helped you… and I won't be sorry I finally told you."

"Tybalt…"

"Cats never regret anything," he said, and he turned and kissed me. ~ Seanan McGuire
Child Man quotes by Seanan McGuire
The gigantic catastrophes that threaten us today are not elemental happenings of a physical or biological order, but psychic events. To a quite terrifying degree we are threatened by wars and revolutions which are nothing other than psychic epidemics. At any moment several million human beings may be smitten with a new madness, and then we shall have another world war or devastating revolution. Instead of being at the mercy of wild beasts, earthquakes, landslides, and inundations, modern man is battered by the elemental forces of his own psyche. ~ Carl Jung
Child Man quotes by Carl Jung
All I can say is speak up; ask questions. Explain your concerns. It's the first step in feeling empowered to push forward with your own agenda. There is no reason to stifle yourself! Because as a wise man once told me: the best moments are the ones where you're you. ~ Tan France
Child Man quotes by Tan France
I believe in an America where the separation of church and state is absolute - where no Catholic prelate would tell the President (should he be Catholic) how to act, and no Protestant minister would tell his parishioners for whom to vote - where no church or church school is granted any public funds or political preference - and where no man is denied public office merely because his religion differs from the President who might appoint him or the people who might elect him.

I believe in an America that is officially neither Catholic, Protestant nor Jewish - where no public official either requests or accepts instructions on public policy from the Pope, the National Council of Churches or any other ecclesiastical source - where no religious body seeks to impose its will directly or indirectly upon the general populace or the public acts of its officials - and where religious liberty is so indivisible that an act against one church is treated as an act against all.

[Remarks to the Greater Houston Ministerial Association, September 12 1960] ~ John F. Kennedy
Child Man quotes by John F. Kennedy
Here comes a man of comfort, whose advice Hath often stilled my brawling discontent. ~ William Shakespeare
Child Man quotes by William Shakespeare
Man, do I ever want to be an alien," he finally says. "You guys get to do way too many cool things. ~ Pittacus Lore
Child Man quotes by Pittacus Lore
Bad tactics, and whoever this Caladan Brood is, he's shown himself adept at making us pay for our mistakes." "Caladan Brood," Calot murmured. "I swear I've heard that name somewhere before. Odd that I've never given it much thought." Tattersail's eyes narrowed on Tayschrenn. Calot was right: the name of the man commanding the Tiste Andii alongside the Crimson Guard did sound familiar - but in an old way, echoing ancient legends, perhaps, or some epic poem. ~ Steven Erikson
Child Man quotes by Steven Erikson
It's always great to play a man who sets himself up to be punctured. ~ Jeremy Irons
Child Man quotes by Jeremy Irons
Don't ever humiliate a man. If you're gonna have to dress him out, you take him aside and do it that way. That's the one thing I don't like about Hollywood: They go in for public humiliation. You shouldn't do that to a man. ~ Rip Torn
Child Man quotes by Rip Torn
Devotion is a certain act of the will by which man gives himself promptly to divine service. ~ Thomas Aquinas
Child Man quotes by Thomas Aquinas
Anyone who has lost a child will tell you that they don't recover their sense of endless possibility. Some people hide that well. But after a certain age, almost everyone is carrying something like that around, I suppose. ~ Edward Hirsch
Child Man quotes by Edward Hirsch
The man who counts his blessings will not have time to count his enemies. ~ Rev William Still
Child Man quotes by Rev William Still
I should mention here that librarians tell me never to tell this story, and especially never to paint myself as a feral child who was raised in libraries by patient librarians; the tell me they are worried that people will misinterpret my story and use it as an excuse to use their libraries as free day care for their children. ~ Neil Gaiman
Child Man quotes by Neil Gaiman
CHAPTER L 'IN THESE DAYS ONE CAN'T MAKE A MAN MARRY ~ Anthony Trollope
Child Man quotes by Anthony Trollope
If elected, I shall see to it that every man has a square deal, no less and no more. ~ Theodore Roosevelt
Child Man quotes by Theodore Roosevelt
It is the doctrine of the popular music-masters, that whoever can speak can sing. So, probably, every man is eloquent once in his life. Our temperaments differ in capacity of heat, or ~ Ralph Waldo Emerson
Child Man quotes by Ralph Waldo Emerson
Neither man spoke, both lost in thought. Lucien was visited by the awful memory of the day when Cedric's parents died.
Lucien knew that Cedric had been watching over Audrey at the Sheridan townhouse on Curzon Street when a footman had come running. Cedric once told him that everything seemed to slow from that moment on. The footman was flushed and sputtered about a carriage accident and finally blurted out, "Dead, sir. Both Lord and Lady Sheridan are dead. Your sister suffered a broken arm, but is alive. Lord Rochester was nearby and helped in rescuing your sister."
Lucien would never forget that moment when he'd brought Horatia home after the accident. Cedric had taken two steps towards the door and his legs gave out, sinking to his knees.

-His Wicked Seduction ~ Lauren Smith
Child Man quotes by Lauren Smith
All right, Watson. Don't look so scared," he muttered in a very weak voice. "It's not as bad as it seems."
"Thank God for that!"
"I'm a bit of a single-stick expert, as you know. I took most of them on my guard. It was the second man that was too much for me."
"What can I do, Holmes? Of course, it was that damned fellow who set them on. I'll go and thrash the hide off him if you give the word."
"Good old Watson!( ... ) ~ Arthur Conan Doyle
Child Man quotes by Arthur Conan Doyle
Nature is a part of our humanity, and without some awareness and experience of that divine mystery man ceases to be man. ~ Henry Beston
Child Man quotes by Henry Beston
I've looked over, and I've seen the promised land. I may not get there with you, but I want you to know tonight that we as a people will get to the promised land. So I'm happy tonight. I'm not worried about anything. I'm not fearing any man. ~ Martin Luther King, Jr.
Child Man quotes by Martin Luther King, Jr.
It is my interpretation from the Koran that all people have equal rights. That means men and women, Muslims and non-Muslims too, and in a society where all people have equal rights, that means all people should make decisions equally ... This doesn't mean that we're changing God's law, It just means we're reinterpreting laws according to the development of science - and the realities of the times. ~ Yousef Saanei
Child Man quotes by Yousef Saanei
Every man in my organization knows you and understands that you're my personal property, ~ Janet Evanovich
Child Man quotes by Janet Evanovich
Every baby born
unloved, unwanted, is a bill that will come
due in twenty years with interest, an anger
that must find a target, a pain that will
beget pain. A decade downstream a child
screams, a woman falls, a synagogue is torched,
a firing squad is summoned, a button
is pushed and the world burns. ~ Marge Piercy
