I met [Shatner] on the set of Star Trek V, and he was horrible to me. He was cruel, and dismissive, and treated me the way I understand he treats pretty much everyone who tells him how much they loved him as Captain Kirk. ~ Wil Wheaton
Captain Corellis Mandolin Mandras quotes by Wil Wheaton
We were still children, for all that we thought we weren't. We were in that in-between place, the twilight between childish things and grown-up things. ~ Christina Henry
Captain Corellis Mandolin Mandras quotes by Christina Henry
I pray that I am never so foolishly naive or roguishly pompous to think that I can be the captain of my own ship, for if God is not at the helm my ship will soon be at the bottom. ~ Craig D. Lounsbrough
Captain Corellis Mandolin Mandras quotes by Craig D. Lounsbrough
I needed to purge myself of all the attention my parents had given me - I wasn't neglected enough as a child. ~ Captain Beefheart

Okay, see? Those words I understand just fine. Use them more often.
-Lieutenant Massey Reynstein & Captain Tagon ~ Howard Tayler
Captain Corellis Mandolin Mandras quotes by Howard Tayler
[Do not get too attached to life] for it is like a sailor's leave on the shore and at any time, the captain may sound the horn, calling you back to eternal darkness. ~ Epictetus
Captain Corellis Mandolin Mandras quotes by Epictetus
How could I actually be changing anything, even in myself? My legacy is built into me; I was born to not know, to wonder and let the crispness of my wondering dissolve as I age. I have no choice. I am not on a crusade. My life is happening to me and I am vainly insisting I am the captain. "I am making these brave choices because, at heart, I am a brave person." But I am so flimsy. I am ruined for days at the mention of a name! I bend my back at the first reminder of a hurt feeling. How could I steer anything? ~ Phil Elverum
Captain Corellis Mandolin Mandras quotes by Phil Elverum
To see justice done, men were prepared to take the law into their own hands. In the Carolinas, bands of vigilantes or Regulators crisscrossed the territory in the late 1760s, stamping out local hooligans and waging war on interlopers. This vigilante attitude was epitomized by a Scots Borders descendant from Pittsylvania County, Virginia, named Captain William Lynch. He ruled as virtual dictator of his county, punishing wrongdoers and warning lawless elements that "we will inflict such corporal punishment on him or them, as to us shall seem adequate to the crime committed or the damage sustained." "Lynch's Law," and the punishments and hangings it inflicted, also became part of American culture - an ugly part, but a legacy of a harsh world and a harsh, unforgiving people. ~ Arthur Herman
Captain Corellis Mandolin Mandras quotes by Arthur Herman
She didn't care to be reminded how starved she looked, but she could hardly bemoan the fact. It had lent well to her disguise. Though seventeen, she had masqueraded as a stripling lad beneath the very noses of the Yankees. Captain Latimer had not even been suspicious. ~ Kathleen E. Woodiwiss
Captain Corellis Mandolin Mandras quotes by Kathleen E. Woodiwiss
It would stay with him always as everything you ever did stayed with you, every horse you ever saddled, every morning he awoke with Maria Luisa beside him, and every slap of the paten on fresh paper, every time he had thrown open the shutters in the Betancort house, and his captain dying under his hands, always there like a tangle of telegraph wires in the brain where no dispatch was ever lost, what an odd thing, an odd thing. ~ Paulette Jiles
Captain Corellis Mandolin Mandras quotes by Paulette Jiles
But if I am to speak in earnest, what I desire above all in a wife is firmness of character - a woman who knows her own mind." --Captain Frederick Wentworth ~ Jane Austen
Captain Corellis Mandolin Mandras quotes by Jane Austen
His three boats stove around him, and oars and men both whirling in the eddies; one captain, seizing the line-knife from his broken prow, had dashed at the whale, as an Arkansas duellist at his foe, blindly seeking with a six inch blade to reach the fathom-deep life of the whale. That captain was Ahab. And then it was, that suddenly sweeping his sickle-shaped lower jaw benieath him, Moby Dick had reaped away Ahab's leg. ~ Herman Melville
Captain Corellis Mandolin Mandras quotes by Herman Melville
She realized she'd been staring only when he said, his voice lower and huskier, "Who are you looking for?"
His words snapped her out of her terrible trance. "I ... I ... " she thought furiously and said the only thing that came to mind. "For you. I was looking for you."
Suspicion flashed in his sea-blue eyes. "In the rigging?"
"Yes. Why not?"
"Either you're very ignorant about what a captain does, or you're lying. Why is it?"
Ignoring the plummeting sensation in her stomach, she forced a smile to her face. "Really, Gideon, you are so suspicious. Last night you accused me of plotting behind your back, and this morning you accuse me of lying. Who else would I be looking for but you? ~ Sabrina Jeffries
Captain Corellis Mandolin Mandras quotes by Sabrina Jeffries
Major General Leonard Wood

Leonard Wood was an army officer and physician, born October 9, 1860 in Winchester, New Hampshire. His first assignment was in 1886 at Fort Huachuca, Arizona where he fought in the last campaign against the fierce Apache warrior Geronimo. He was awarded the Medal of Honor for carrying dispatches 100 miles through hostile territory and was promoted to the rank of Captain, commanding a detachment of the 8th Infantry.

From 1887 to 1898, he served as a medical officer in a number of positions, the last of which was as the personal physician to President William McKinley. In 1898 at the beginning of the war with Spain, he was given command of the 1st Volunteer Cavalry. The regiment was soon to be known as the "Rough Riders." Wood lead his men on the famous charge up San Juan Hill and was given a field promotion to brigadier general.

In 1898 he was appointed the Military Governor of Santiago de Cuba. In 1920, as a retired Major General, Wood ran as the Republican candidate for the presidency of the United States, losing to Warren Harding. In 1921 following his defeat, General Wood accepted the post of Governor General of the Philippines. He held this position from 1921 to 1927, when he died of a brain tumor in Boston, on 7 August 1927, at 66 years of age after which he was buried, with full honors, in Arlington National Cemetery. ~ Hank Bracker

I don't know if I expected to be a captain of an All-Star team. It's pretty cool. ~ Patrick Kane
Captain Corellis Mandolin Mandras quotes by Patrick Kane
What would you like to be?" Nina asks.
Nathaniel tosses his magical tablecloth. "A superhero," he says. "A new one."
Caleb is sure they could muster up Superman on short notice. "What's wrong with the old ones?"
Everything it turns out. Nathaniel doesn't like Superman because he can be felled by Kryptonite. Green Lantern's ring doesn't work on anything yellow. The Incredible Hulk is too stupid. Even Captain Marvel runs the risk of being tricked into saying the word Shazam! and turning himself back into young Billy Batson.
"How about Ironman?" Caleb suggests.
Nathaniel shakes his head. "He could rust."
"Aquaman?"
"Needs water."
"Nathaniel," Nina says gently, "nobody's perfect."
"But they are supposed to be." Nathaniel explains, an d Caleb understands. Tonight, Nathaniel needs to be invincible. ~ Jodi Picoult
Captain Corellis Mandolin Mandras quotes by Jodi Picoult
Aaron reached into his jacket pocket and took out his Bible, a gift from his father, Captain Benjamin K. Matthews, on the the day he had ridden off to war. Aaron opened to the Psalms, intending to read, but his eyes were heavy and closed against his will. O death, where is thy sting? Pastor Blackwell had told him that death had no power over him, but he sure felt that sting now. O grave, where is thy victory? How much longer would it be? Just four miles from home. Would Mama ever know?
Shiloh, the place of peace. Good ground to die on. Holy ground. ~ Karl A. Bacon
Captain Corellis Mandolin Mandras quotes by Karl A. Bacon
A bowler is his own captain. I know what needs to be done, what the ball is doing. If you don't know where you are going to bowl and where you think the batsman will hit, then how can you tell the captain what you want? You are the judge. ~ Harbhajan Singh
Captain Corellis Mandolin Mandras quotes by Harbhajan Singh
Vik? You ready? (Devyn)
Your stupidity is what I live for, Captain. (Vik) ~ Sherrilyn Kenyon
Captain Corellis Mandolin Mandras quotes by Sherrilyn Kenyon
It soon became clear, however, that Abraham Lincoln would emerge the undisputed captain of this most unusual cabinet, truly a team of rivals. The powerful competitors who had originally disdained Lincoln became colleagues who helped him steer the country through its darkest days. Seward ~ Doris Kearns Goodwin
Captain Corellis Mandolin Mandras quotes by Doris Kearns Goodwin
I'm fairly certain, Captain," she said, "that the more you discover about me, the more you will dislike me. Therefore, let's cut to the chase and acknowledge that we don't like each other. Then we won't have to bother with the in-between part."
She was so bloody frank and practical about the whole thing that Christopher couldn't help but be amused.
"I'm afraid I can't oblige you."
"Why not?"
"Because when you said that just now, I found myself starting to like you."
"You'll recover," she said.
Her decisive tone made him want to smile. "It's getting worse, actually," he told her. "Now I'm absolutely convinced that I like you."
Beatrix gave him a patently skeptical stare. "What about my hedgehog? Do you like her, too?"
Christopher considered that. "Affection for rodents can't be rushed."
"Medusa isn't a rodent. She's an erinaceid. ~ Lisa Kleypas
Captain Corellis Mandolin Mandras quotes by Lisa Kleypas
But I just think as a captain, everybody's different. ~ Mark Messier
Captain Corellis Mandolin Mandras quotes by Mark Messier
I very rarely saw Tom Kite around. I've talked to Tom about it. I don't think Michael Jordan needed to be on the captain's cart with Kite; he needed to be walking in the gallery, supporting them from outside the ropes. ~ Payne Stewart
Captain Corellis Mandolin Mandras quotes by Payne Stewart

Captain Corellis Mandolin Mandras quotes by Robert Louis Stevenson
My goal with The Adventures of Captain Underpants was to invent a style which was almost identical to that of a picture book - in a novel format. So I wrote incredibly short chapters and tried to fill each page with more pictures than words. I wanted to create a book that kids who don't like to read would want to read. ~ Dav Pilkey
Captain Corellis Mandolin Mandras quotes by Dav Pilkey
My son, Walker, has a band called The Dust Busters. You know, he plays banjo, fiddle, guitar, and mandolin, so a lot of my interest in that kind of music comes from him constantly listening to this stuff. He's taught me the history of it. It's remarkable how these young kids are now turned on to more traditional old-time music. ~ Sam Shepard
Captain Corellis Mandolin Mandras quotes by Sam Shepard
Captain Cook discovered Australia looking for the Terra Incognita. Christopher Columbus thought he was finding India but discovered America. History is full of events that happened because of an imaginary tale. ~ Umberto Eco
Captain Corellis Mandolin Mandras quotes by Umberto Eco
I ran the high school newspaper and was in student government. I played sports my whole life but was never picked as captain. ~ Bing Gordon
Captain Corellis Mandolin Mandras quotes by Bing Gordon
I cannot have a man who is afraid of everything, I don't have the time to soothe insecurities and fears, I cannot have a man who is standing on a stone by a creek, watching for the fish to swim by and every time he sees a fish he says "Oh look, this fish scares me, I wonder what this fish means, this fish might mean- this, or this fish might mean- that" for God's sake, they are just fish, and they don't mean anything! Such a sad thing, so many fine, strong men standing on top of little stones, pointing at fish all the time! Such a waste! Such a waste of time! I can only have a man who will leap into the water, not minding the damn fish and whatever other little things that scare him. I need to have someone who is braver than me; if I am a pirate, he has to be the pirate Captain, if I am a pirate Captain he has to be the flying dragon. ~ C. JoyBell C.
Captain Corellis Mandolin Mandras quotes by C. JoyBell C.

Captain Corellis Mandolin Mandras quotes by Chris Jericho
We read you. Talk to us son. What are you seeing?'
"Ahhh. Captain I don't need a light anymore."
"Repeat last transmission, you say your light is back on?"
"Negative Sir. I don't need a light, I can see. Captain, you said Chado was talking to God?"
"Roger that."
"Well I believe God is down here right now. ~ Russell L. Martin
Captain Corellis Mandolin Mandras quotes by Russell L. Martin
Boating is a wonderful and relaxing pastime, however it is not without its hazards. ~ Captain Hank Bracker
Captain Corellis Mandolin Mandras quotes by Captain Hank Bracker
But where do you live mostly now?"
With the lost boys."
Who are they?"
They are the children who fall out of their perambulators when the nurse is looking the other way. If they are not claimed in seven days they are sent far away to the Neverland to defray expanses. I'm captain."
What fun it must be!"
Yes," said cunning Peter, "but we are rather lonely. You see we have no female companionship."
Are none of the others girls?"
Oh no; girls, you know, are much too clever to fall out of their prams. ~ J.M. Barrie
Captain Corellis Mandolin Mandras quotes by J.M. Barrie
Ye are a scoundrel, a black-hearted robber and a rogue,' Stubble said cheerily to the grumbling captain. It was his usual way of haggling, and he'd beaten down the riverman to a decent price for conveying himself and Anvar to Lankarn. ~ Ian Livingstone
Captain Corellis Mandolin Mandras quotes by Ian Livingstone
the Captain held the Bible in one hand and July's hand in his other hand and said, "Love found, need not be delayed, but must be rushed towards and I rush to you. As long as my heart beats it will belong to you, and if I lose you there will be a hole in my soul, and no grave will be deep enough to bury my pain. I take you to be my life partner and will do everything in my power to make the rest of your life as happy as I am on this day, the beginning of our life together. ~ Toni Mariani
Captain Corellis Mandolin Mandras quotes by Toni Mariani
Captain or mate, M. Morrel, I shall always have the greatest respect for those who possess the owners' confidence. ~ Alexandre Dumas
Captain Corellis Mandolin Mandras quotes by Alexandre Dumas
Then there was Micah Jenkins, the Captain of Troop K, a gentle and courteous South Carolinian, on whom danger acted like wine. In action he was a perfect gamecock. ~ Theodore Roosevelt
Captain Corellis Mandolin Mandras quotes by Theodore Roosevelt
If Captain Jean-Luc Picard asked you to serve him aboard the starship Enterprise, you'd likely be happy to. You would recognise him as a great leader and a good man, and so you wouldn't have any problem following his orders. This is basically the relationship God wants with us - not slaves, not pets, not possessions, we would be co-workers and friends. ~ Lewis N. Roe
Captain Corellis Mandolin Mandras quotes by Lewis N. Roe
Dr. Eleven: What was it like for you, at the end?
Captain Lonagan: It was exactly like waking up from a dream. ~ Emily St. John Mandel
Captain Corellis Mandolin Mandras quotes by Emily St. John Mandel
I wanted to be Stan Laurel, then I wanted to be Fred Astaire and then Captain Kangaroo. I actually started out as a radio announcer when I was 17 and never left the business, so that's literally 70 years. ~ Dick Van Dyke
Captain Corellis Mandolin Mandras quotes by Dick Van Dyke
Sometimes it has been of great moment while the fight is going on, to disseminate words that pronounce the enemies' captain to be dead, or to have been conquered by another part of the army. Many times this has given victory to him who used it. ~ Niccolo Machiavelli
Captain Corellis Mandolin Mandras quotes by Niccolo Machiavelli
There are reasons you don't live with your parents once you've grown up. The criminal should never return to the crime scene. All the evidence is still there. ~ Margaret Stohl
Captain Corellis Mandolin Mandras quotes by Margaret Stohl
It is 1908.

The stars shone above in the night sky as a steamship floated among the clouds.

It's captain, Captain Otra, looked at his watch. He was ahead of his delivery schedule by 30 minutes to deliver the British Government it's much-needed order of concentrated milk and goat cheese from the shores of New Zealand.

He had inherited the business from his wife's father. His wife had passed roughly 5 years ago.

His daughter Lux Otra was tinkering for the hundredth time on her grandfather's sky faring compass, taking it apart and putting it back together. Each time she fixed, the compass worked perfectly again. Memorizing these intricate steps would give her a temporary satisfaction but now she couldn't do it anymore. She set the compass down and sighed in frustration. ~ Bellatuscana
Captain Corellis Mandolin Mandras quotes by Bellatuscana
The Rabia Balkhi, registered to Captain Eric Khan out of Pallas, was still just goods and people heading into the frontier to stake a claim. Fewer horses, maybe, but more fusion reactors. ~ James S.A. Corey
