This water was very different from any ordinary food. It was born from the walk under the stars, the song of the pulley, the effort of carrying him in my arms. It did the heart good, like a present. When I was a little boy, the lights of the Christmas tree, the music of the midnight mass, the sweetness of people's smiles, all formed part of the radiance of the Christmas gifts I received. ~ Antoine De Saint Exupery
Under The Stars quotes by Antoine De Saint Exupery
Do not despise your own place and hour. Every place is under the stars, every place is the center of the world. ~ John Burroughs
Under The Stars quotes by John Burroughs
This summer night deep down under the stars was all the things you would ever feel or see or hear in your life, drowning you all at once. ~ Ray Bradbury
Under The Stars quotes by Ray Bradbury
Everything's better under the stars, I suppose. If we get another life after we die, I'll meet you there, old sport... ~ Alice Oseman
Under The Stars quotes by Alice Oseman
Find a guy who calls you beautiful instead of hot, who calls you back when you hang up on him, who will lie under the stars and listen to your heartbeat, or will stay awake just to watch you sleep ... wait for the boy who kisses your forehead, who wants to show you off to the world when you are in sweats, who holds your hand in front of his friends, who thinks you're just as pretty without makeup on. One who is constantly reminding you of how much he cares and how lucky his is to have you ... The one who turns to his friends and says, 'that's her.' ~ Chuck Palahniuk
Under The Stars quotes by Chuck Palahniuk
One day, putting my finger on a spot in the very middle of the then white heart of Africa, I declared that some day I would go there ... It is a fact that, about eighteen years afterwards, a wretched little stern-wheel steamboat I commanded lay moored to the bank of an African river.

Everything was dark under the stars. Every other white man on board was asleep. I was glad to be alone on deck, smoking the pipe of peace after an anxious day. The subdued thundering mutter of the Stanley Falls hung in the heavy night air of the last navigable reach of the Upper Congo ... Away in the middle of the stream, on a little island nestling all black in the foam of the broken water, a solitary little light glimmered feebly, and I said to myself with awe, 'This is the very spot of my boyish boast.'

A great melancholy descended on me. Yes, this was the very spot. But there was no shadowy friend to stand by my side in the night of the enormous wilderness, no great haunting memory, but only the ... distasteful knowledge of the vilest scramble for loot that ever disfigured the history of human conscience and geographical exploration. What an end to the idealised realities of a boy's daydreams!... Still, the fact remains that I have smoked a pipe of peace at midnight in the very heart of the African continent, and felt very lonely there. ~ Joseph Conrad
Under The Stars quotes by Joseph Conrad
Are you looking for answers, to questions under the stars? If along the way you are growing weary, You can rest with me until a brighter day It's okay ~ Dave Matthews
Under The Stars quotes by Dave Matthews
They drove together under the stars to the lake, where they sat with fishing poles in a metal rowboat and waited for something to bite. Zack ate the toast, Uncle Orson gave some pointers, and then they cast their lines, again and again, into the pale fog. Dawn broke. The sunrise cracked. Clouds settled across the sky. The fog scattered as the air heated. And they still weren't catching anything. And that whole time, the exact same gull was circling overhead. "Nothing's happening," Zack complained. But Uncle Orson smiled at the clouds and smiled at the rowboat and smiled at the gull and smiled at the poles. "Nothing has to happen," Uncle Orson had said. ~ Matthew Baker
Under The Stars quotes by Matthew Baker
They stood together in the gloom of the spruces, an empty world glimmering about them wide and gray under the stars ~ Edith Wharton
Under The Stars quotes by Edith Wharton
Why has the pleasure of slowness disappeared? Ah, where have they gone, the amblers of yesteryear? Where have they gone, those loafing heroes of folk song, those vagabonds who roam from one mill to another and bed down under the stars? ~ Milan Kundera
Under The Stars quotes by Milan Kundera
One night when we were lying under the stars together she pointed to this beaming bright star beside the moon and said wherever she was in the world, whether we were together or apart, that I should remember her with that star because it would always be there-that it was her with me. ~ Rebecah McManus
Under The Stars quotes by Rebecah McManus
There was nowhere to go but everywhere, so just keep on rolling under the stars. ~ Jack Kerouac
Under The Stars quotes by Jack Kerouac
The day happened to be Sunday, and when I looked on the loveliness around me, and thought how it had grown and changed, and how the little wild flowers had been forming, and the voices of the birds had been strengthening, by day and by night, under the sun and under the stars, while poor I lay burning and tossing on my bed, the mere remembrance of having burned and tossed there, came like a check upon my peace. ~ Charles Dickens
Under The Stars quotes by Charles Dickens
If the roof fails, we'll live under the stars. ~ Ellen Horan
Under The Stars quotes by Ellen Horan
And thus ever by day and night, under the sun and under the stars, climbing the dusty hills and toiling along the weary plains, journeying by land and journeying by sea, coming and going so strangely, to meet and to act and react on one another, move all we restless travellers through the pilgrimage of life. ~ Charles Dickens
Under The Stars quotes by Charles Dickens
He was mastered by the sheer surging of life, the tidal wave of being, the perfect joy of each separate muscle, joint, and sinew in that it was everything that was not death, that it was aglow and rampant, expressing itself in movement, flying exultantly under the stars. ~ Jack London
Under The Stars quotes by Jack London
The song continued through the second verse, telling the story of a young couple who couldn't be together in the bright light of day, but who had walked hand-in-hand under the stars every night. Lovers who weren't tough enough or brave enough to make it work, who let the world tear them apart. Lovers who were already dying inside from regret.
Not the most original idea, but love songs seldom are. The pain we feel when something breaks inside of us cuts everyone just as deep, no matter how many millions of people have felt it before. This story was my story, but the hush of the audience told me that the crowd was attaching their own thoughts and memories to my words. There's no moment of connection purer ~ Peter Styles
Under The Stars quotes by Peter Styles
I rock in his arms under the stars and the blanket of night air, unwilling or unable to tear myself away. ~ Lisa Daily
Under The Stars quotes by Lisa Daily
Sitting outside on a dark night, under the stars, invites confidences amongst people of all ages, and all walks of life. It invokes an intimacy you don't find under most other circumstances. ~ A.B. Shepherd
Under The Stars quotes by A.B. Shepherd
every minute spent on good sleep, it was well spent; unless you are sleeping outside under the stars ~ Rodolfo Peon
Under The Stars quotes by Rodolfo Peon
This is what love is. Not the moments on the beach, or under the stars or the trees, or in the moonlight. Love is sitting together in the quiet, waiting for death to come.
Knowing you're not alone. ~ Carolee Dean
Under The Stars quotes by Carolee Dean
But I also hoped that [she] had chosen California because she thought that was her true home, the place where she really belonged, where it was always warm and you could dance in the rain, pick grapes right off the vines, and sleep outside at night under the stars. ~ Jeannette Walls
Under The Stars quotes by Jeannette Walls
Eldest, that's what I am. Mark my words, my friends: Tom was here before the river and the trees; Tom remembers the first raindrop and the first acorn. He made paths before the Big People, and saw the Little People arriving. He was here before the Kings and the graves and the Barrow-wights. When the Elves passed westward, Tom was here already, before the seas were bent. He knew the dark under the stars when it was fearless - before the Dark Lord came from Outside. ~ J.R.R. Tolkien
Under The Stars quotes by J.R.R. Tolkien
Tell me about the farm," she pleaded as drops of blood began to appear on her hand.
"The farm?"
"The farm that Finnikin the peasant would have lived on with his bride."
"Evanjalin. That was her name. Did I mention that?"
She laughed through a sob. "No, you didn't."
"They would plant rows upon rows of wheat and barley, and each night they would sit under the stars to admire what they owned. Oh, and they would argue. She believes the money made would be better spent on a horse, and he believes they need a new barn. But then later they would forget all their anger and he would hold her fiercely and never let her go."
"And he'd place marigolds in her hair?" she asked.
He clasped her hands against his and watched her blood seep through the lines of his skin. "And he would love her until the day he died," he said. ~ Melina Marchetta
Under The Stars quotes by Melina Marchetta
This is a place where grandmothers hold babies on their laps under the stars and whisper in their ears that the lights in the sky are holes in the floor of heaven. ~ Rick Bragg
Under The Stars quotes by Rick Bragg
How loose he seemed to himself, under the stars! The spaces between the stars were pores, out of which human meaning evaporated. ~ Annie Dillard
Under The Stars quotes by Annie Dillard
Under the stars,I tried to sleep, but for once in my life couldn't.My mutant super power-the ability to nod off at at the drop of a hat,any time,anywhere-had deserted me. ~ James Lovegrove
Under The Stars quotes by James Lovegrove
I would rather dance alone under the stars than spend a lifetime hiding behind the moon. ~ Melody Lee
Under The Stars quotes by Melody Lee
Elvish singing is not a thing to miss, in June under the stars, not if you care for such things. ~ J.R.R. Tolkien
Under The Stars quotes by J.R.R. Tolkien
A traveling epic Hunkey, crossing and recrossing the country every year, south in the winter and north in the summer and only because he has no place he can stay in without getting tired of it and because there was nowhere to go but everywhere, and keep rolling under the stars ~ Jack Kerouac
Under The Stars quotes by Jack Kerouac
He floated by them, and slowly his boat departed, waning to a dark spot against the golden light; and then suddenly it vanished. Rauros roared on unchanging. The River had taken Boromir son of Denethor, and he was not seen again in Minas Tirith, standing as he used to stand upon the White Tower in the morning. But in Gondor in after-days it long was said that the elven-boat rode the falls and the foaming pool, and bore him down through Osgiliath, and past the many mouths of Anduin, out into the Great Sea at night under the stars. ~ J.R.R. Tolkien
Under The Stars quotes by J.R.R. Tolkien
It was both terrible and oddly humbling to realize how easily physical discomfort could take control, expanding like poison gas until it owned all the floor-space, took over the entire playing field. Grief? Loss? What were those things when you could feel cold on the march, moving in from your fingers and toes, crawling up your motherfucking nose, and moving where? Toward the brain, do it please ya. And toward the heart. In the grip of cold like that, grief and loss were nothing but words. No, not even that. Only sounds. So much meaningless quack as you sat shuddering under the stars, waiting for a morning that would never come. ~ Stephen King
Under The Stars quotes by Stephen King
I went on a blind date last night. We watched a silent film. We stayed up all night talking in sign language. I fell asleep in the fetal position in her cat's litter box. Ah, 'twas a great night. I'll never forget dancing with an albino under the stars. ~ Jarod Kintz
Under The Stars quotes by Jarod Kintz
Jules: A house with Emma; laughing by a fire together.
All that would make it better would be his brothers and sisters somewhere nearby, where he could see them every day, where he could fence with Livvy and watch movies with Dru and help Tavvy learn the crossbow. Where he could look for animals with Ty, hermit crabs down by the edge of the water, scuttling under their shells. Where he could cook massive dinners with Mark and Helen and Aline and they'd all eat them together, out under the stars in the desert air. ~ Cassandra Clare
Under The Stars quotes by Cassandra Clare
Here's the problem, when you're stargazing on a mountain top you are partially oxygen-deprived and you're in command of million dollars worth of hardware. So as much as I would like to sip wine under the stars, it's contraindicated in the instructions on operating telescopes. ~ Neil DeGrasse Tyson
Under The Stars quotes by Neil DeGrasse Tyson
When it was all over, Kit thankfully slipped away, avoiding the washing-up after dinner, and found himself a quiet spot under the front portico of the house. The air blowing off the desert was cool and spiced, and the ocean gleamed under the stars, a sheet of deep black that ended in a series of unfurling white waves. ~ Cassandra Clare
Under The Stars quotes by Cassandra Clare
The sky [above Tehran] was like a star-eaten black blanket, and so far as I could read them its constellations were unfamiliar. Lawrence speaks somewhere of drawing 'strength from the depths of the universe'; Malcolm Lowry speaks about the deadness of the stars except when he looked at them with a particular girl; I had neither feeling. The founder of the Jesuits used to spend many hours under the stars; it is hard to be certain whether his first stirrings of scientific speculation or pre-scientific wonder about space and the stars in their own nature were some element in his affinity with starlight, or whether for him they were only a point of departure, but in this matter I think I am about fifty years more modern than Saint Ignatius; stars mean to me roughly what they meant to Donne's generation, a bright religious sand imposing the sense of an intrusion into human language, and arousing a certain personal thirst to be specific. ~ Peter Levi
Under The Stars quotes by Peter Levi
Building a little bonfire at night on the beach and lying on a blanket with my wife under the stars is not only sexy, it's romantic. ~ Benjamin Bratt
Under The Stars quotes by Benjamin Bratt
I lay there under the stars and thought of what a great responsibility it is to be human. ~ Donald Miller
Under The Stars quotes by Donald Miller
Mr. Langdon, I did not ask if you believe what man says about God. I asked if you believed in God. There is a difference. Holy scripture is stories ... legends and history of man's quest to understand his own need for meaning. I am not asking you to pass judgment on literature. I am asking if you believe in God. When you lie out under the stars, do you sense the divine? Do you feel in your gut that you are staring up at the work of God's hands? ~ Dan Brown
Under The Stars quotes by Dan Brown
Under the stars we are as one. Theirs is the power of countless years. They see our grief and know our pain, yet still they shine and their light gives us hope. From acorn to oak, but even the mightiest of oaks shall fall. Thus do we recognize the great wheel of life and death and life once more. We surrender our departed souls under the stars and may the Green gather them to him. ~ Robin Jarvis
Under The Stars quotes by Robin Jarvis
Have no doubt it is fear in the land. For what can men do when so many have grown lawless? Who can enjoy the lovely land, who can enjoy the seventy years, and the sun that pours down on the earth, when there is fear in the heart? Who can walk quietly in the shadow of the jacarandas, when their beauty is grown to danger? Who can lie peacefully abed, while the darkness holds some secret? What lovers can lie sweetly under the stars, when menace grows with the measure of their seclusion? ~ Alan Paton
Under The Stars quotes by Alan Paton
Cherish your solitude. Take trains by yourself to places you have never been. Sleep out alone under the stars. Learn how to drive a stick shift. Go so far away that you stop being afraid of not coming back. Say no when you don't want to do something. Say yes if your instincts are strong, even if everyone around you disagrees. Decide whether you want to be liked or admired. Decide if fitting in is more important than finding out what you're doing here. Believe in kissing. ~ Eve Ensler
Under The Stars quotes by Eve Ensler
Somewhere under the stars God has a job for you to do and nobody else can do it. ~ Horace Bushnell
Under The Stars quotes by Horace Bushnell
I meant what I said about sex."
His hand slid all the way up her leg, pushing what little skirt was still covering her out of the way, holding it in a bunch at her belly button. Her nudity was fully exposed to his gaze and he looked his fill, breathing out hard.
"Who said anything about sex?"
He leaned in, his mouth dropping to the pale slice of skin between where his hand held her skirt and the thatch of hair between her legs. She wasn't trimmed as was the fashion among the women he usually took to his bed but Troy was not a fussy guy and here, under the stars, his head filling with the musky scent of her arousal, au naturel seemed fitting.
The ragged pant of her breathing stuttered into the air as he lazily stroked his tongue down.
Down. Down. Down.
She roused. Shifted. Raised herself up on her elbows, her abs tightening, her thighs tensing. "I think you'll find that still counts," she said, obviously throwing one last-ditch effort into denying herself the pleasure she so clearly craved.
He chuckled low, his warm breath fanning her belly, satisfied to feel gooseflesh stippling the soft skin. "If you think this is sex, you need to read some more textbooks, doc. ~ Amy Andrews
Under The Stars quotes by Amy Andrews
What does it mean that I am in this endless universe, thinking that I'm a man sitting under the stars on the terrace of the earth, but actually empty and awake throughout the emptiness and awakedness of everything? It means that I'm empty and awake, that I know I'm empty and awake, and that there's no difference between me and anything else. ~ Jack Kerouac
Under The Stars quotes by Jack Kerouac
It may be just one facet of your personality, or it may not even be a facet but only a pretension. You can show this false face with no problem when sometimes you meet on a sea beach, sometimes in a garden, sometimes under the moon and the stars, but when you really start living together then the reality starts surfacing. The real person is a hell and all that sweet talk that had happened under the stars becomes just lies. ~ Rajneesh
Under The Stars quotes by Rajneesh
In the moonlight and under the stars
Somehow your face seems clearer
I revere your presence and remember
We are warriors
Thrusted onto this plane
We are strong
We must use our strength
While bearing compassion
It's easy to get lost
This place makes it so easy to get lost
But-
In the moonlight and under the stars
Somehow your presence seems clearer
And I remember
We are warriors ~ Nancy Navene
Under The Stars quotes by Nancy Navene
They would sit together under the stars, recalling the ages that were gone and all their joys and labours in the world, or holding council, concerning the days to come. ~ J.R.R. Tolkien
Under The Stars quotes by J.R.R. Tolkien
The first concert that my parents took me to was in this canyon in Saudi Arabia called Buttermilk Canyon. You sleep under the stars in the desert, and ex-pats - German, Swiss, Canadian, American - would play classical music that filled the whole canyon. ~ Hannah Simone
Under The Stars quotes by Hannah Simone
I have decided to sleep under the stars... Tonight heaven is my roof, and the hedges my walls... The field folds me in soft wings. ~ John Lewis-Stempel
Under The Stars quotes by John Lewis-Stempel
It was like a globe with a thousand facets; it shone like silver in the firelight, like water in the sun, like snow under the stars, like rain upon the Moon! ~ J.R.R. Tolkien
Under The Stars quotes by J.R.R. Tolkien
No one can see. I want to fuck right here, right now, under the stars… ~ Raine Miller
Under The Stars quotes by Raine Miller
He described to her the house he had built for himself, in outside appearance a shack, but delightful inside, at least to him. A sleeping loft with a little round window. Everything he needed right where he could put his hand to it, out in the open, nothing in cupboards. A short walk from the house he had a bathtub sunk in the earth, in the middle of a bed of sweet herbs. He would carry hot water to it by the pailful and lounge there under the stars, even in the winter. He grew vegetables, and shared them with the deer.
(From the story "Powers") ~ Alice Munro
Under The Stars quotes by Alice Munro
It was very strange that I, who knew the whole extent of space and time, and counted the wandering stars like sheep, overlooking none, but I who was the most awakened of all beings, I, the glory which myriads in all ages had given their lives to establish, and myriads had worshipped, should now look about me with the same overpowering awe, the same abashed and tongue-tied worship as that which human travelers in the desert feel under the stars. ~ Olaf Stapledon
Under The Stars quotes by Olaf Stapledon
Will father be there?" she asked.

John turned to her in astonishment.

Your father is dead," he replied somberly. "Why should he go to Hades? You have it confused with another place that was abolished long ago."

After supper they folded up the table-cloth and spread their blankets for the night.

What a dream it was," Kismine sighed, gazing up at the stars. "How strange it seems to be here with one dress and a penniless fianc_!

Under the stars," she repeated. "I never noticed the stars before. I always thought of them as great big diamonds that belonged to some one. Now they frighten me. They make me feel that it was all a dream, all my youth."

It was a dream," said John quietly. "Everybody's youth is a dream, a form of chemical madness."

How pleasant then to be insane!"

So I'm told," said John gloomily. "I don't know any longer. At any rate, let us love for a while, for a year or so, you and me. That's a form of divine drunkenness that we can all try. There are only diamonds in the whole world, diamonds and perhaps the shabby gift of disillusion. Well, I have that last and I will make the usual nothing of it." He shivered. "Turn up your coat collar, little girl, the night's full of chill and you'll get pneumonia. His was a great sin who first invented consciousness. Let us lose it for a few hours."

So wrapping himself in his blanket he fell off to sleep. ~ F. Scott Fitzgerald
Under The Stars quotes by F. Scott Fitzgerald
For love is greater than any wind of words. And man, leaning at his window under the stars, is once again responsible for the bread of the day to come, for the slumber of the wife who lies by his side, all fragile and delicate and contingent. Love is not thinking, but being. As I sat facing Alias I longed for night, when my thoughts would be of civilization, of the destiny of man, of the savor of friendship in my native land. For night, so that I might yearn to serve some overwhelming purpose which at this moment I cannot define. For night, so that I might perhaps advance a step towards fixing my unmanageable language. I longed for the night as the poet might do, the true poet who feels himself inhabited by a thing obscure but powerful, and who strives to erect images like ramparts round that thing in order to capture it. To capture it in a snare of images. ~ Antoine De Saint Exupery
Under The Stars quotes by Antoine De Saint Exupery
Why can't life always be lived under the stars,' she said, 'with great music and family and friends? ~ Jan Karon
Under The Stars quotes by Jan Karon
I was under the stars, like a fish is under water. ~ Shannon Hale
Under The Stars quotes by Shannon Hale
And it sucks, because I want to kiss her. It's infuriating how perfect it would be to kiss her right now, perched on a cannon on a pirate ship under the stars. That sounds like something off the pages of an adventure novel. But my life isn't one of those stories. My story is a hurricane, and here with Swift is just the eye. ~ Emily Skrutskie
Under The Stars quotes by Emily Skrutskie
Geographically the island had dramatic coastline of secret coves and forests. It was surrounded by water of turquoise color and reef. It had rich, fertile lands and a very hot temperature all year round. All year the temperature averaged 105 degrees. It got a bit cooler at night but people could still sleep under the stars and sky. It had very little rainfall and no snow or frost. Temperatures dropped a little in the winter". ~ Annette J. Dunlea
Under The Stars quotes by Annette J. Dunlea
But whatever happened, I knew I'd always have this summer, and that first night on the pier under the stars, with the waves surging around us, when we both glowed. And armed with that, I was not afraid. This summer, and this life, had been a privilege. I was sure of that. ~ Seth King
Under The Stars quotes by Seth King
We fell in love with that little peep-show projection on the inside of an iris, pictures that amount to nothing more than the thirsty moon over a spot of bloody ground. Those weren't the nothings we restless sleepwalkers knew, no place no home no song. So we heard her and we followed until she went where we couldn't follow.

She went down beyond the mountains and disappeared between the crease of sky and land, like a great eyelid folding shut. No one knows what happened out in the Black Hills, but I imagine she lies buried in a rusty coffin under the stars. And on nights when the desert crickets sing her tune, they say one day she will rise again. On that day, there is no telling the kind of vengeance she'll demand of us. Fair is fair.

They say when she fell from Heaven she wore a crown of jagged stars that slit the skies throat. They say she loved them all, in the secret corners of their shallow sleep. Strangers, at the last. They say a lot of things. They're all lies. Everything is already written. ~ James Curcio
Under The Stars quotes by James Curcio
Because he had no place he could stay in without getting tired of it and because there was nowhere to go but everywhere, keep rolling under the stars ... ~ Jack Kerouac
Under The Stars quotes by Jack Kerouac
If you didn't find some way of stopping it, people would go on asking questions.
The teachers were useful there. Bands of them wandered through the mountains, along with the tinkers, portable blacksmiths, miracle medicine men, cloth peddlers, fortune-tellers, and all the other travelers who sold things the people didn't need every day but occasionally found useful.
They went from village to village delivering short lessons on many subjects. They kept apart from the other travelers and were quite mysterious in their ragged robes and strange square hats. They used long words, like corrugated iron. They lived rough lives, surviving on what food they could earn from giving lessons to anyone who would listen. When no one would listen, they lived on baked hedgehog. They went to sleep under the stars, which the math teachers would count, the astronomy teachers would measure, and the literature teachers would name. The geography teachers got lost in the woodsand fell into bear traps.
People were usually quite pleased to see them. They taught children enough to shut them up, which was the main thing, after all. But they always had to be driven out of the villages by nightfall in case they stole chickens. ~ Terry Pratchett
Under The Stars quotes by Terry Pratchett
~Tonight's Sea~

Meet me by the sea,
Under the stars.
Where we can gaze
With our hearts.

Today, I am restless,
Waiting for tonight's meet.
I cannot believe how endless
These hours can be.

I hope the constellations
Are aligned. For tonight we'll see
Where our connection wanders.
I'll hold on to this dream.

My grip isn't fading.
My memory isn't gone.
Tonight we will be wading
In the sea waters of love.

-Rachel Nicole Wagner Original ~ Rachel Nicole Wagner
Under The Stars quotes by Rachel Nicole Wagner
A great many people, and more all the time, live their entire lives without ever once sleeping out under the stars. ~ Alan S. Kesselheim
Under The Stars quotes by Alan S. Kesselheim
I celebrated [my 50th birthday] by throwing a big bowl on the pottery wheel, then going for a water ski at the lake on our property in the Catskills, and that night, skinny-dipping under the stars. Just being free and joyful. And that's how I [felt] about turning 50. ~ Marcia Gay Harden
Under The Stars quotes by Marcia Gay Harden
A man who thinks of himself as belonging to a particular national group in America has not yet become an American. And the man who goes among you to trade upon your nationality is no worthy son to live under the Stars and Stripes. ~ Woodrow Wilson
Under The Stars quotes by Woodrow Wilson
I wanted, I told her, to lie under the stars and smell different breezes. I wanted to drink different waters, feel different heats. Stand with my comrades atop the ruin of old ideas. Plant my boot and steel my eye and not run.
I said all this to my dead mother, spoke it down through the dirt: there was a conflagration to come; I wanted to lend it my spark. ~ Laird Hunt
Under The Stars quotes by Laird Hunt
Sometimes I sit alone under the stars and think of the galaxies inside my heart and truly wonder if anyone will ever want to make sense of all that I am ~ Christopher Poindexter
Under The Stars quotes by Christopher Poindexter
The dark eagles, sleep and death,
Rustle all night around my head:
The golden statue of man
Is swallowed by the icy comber
Of eternity. On the frightening reef
The purple remains go to pieces,
And the dark voice mourns
Over the sea.
Sister in my wild despair
Look, a precarious skiff is sinking
Under the stars,
The face of night whose voice is fading. ~ Georg Trakl
Under The Stars quotes by Georg Trakl
He whirled her around under the stars, and somehow, it was perfect. She moved her feet at just the right time, and despite having never been much of a dancer, with Edouard it just… worked. ~ Paige Elwood
Under The Stars quotes by Paige Elwood
Walking uplifts the spirit. Breathe out the poisons of tension, stress, and worry; breathe in the power of God. Send forth little silent prayers of goodwill toward those you meet. Walk with a sense of being a part of a vast universe. Consider the thousands of miles of earth beneath your feet; think of the limitless expanse of space above your head. Walk in awe, wonder, and humility. Walk at all times of day. In the early morning when the world is just waking up. Late at night under the stars. Along a busy city street at noontime. ~ Bill Vaughan
Under The Stars quotes by Bill Vaughan
We walk up the beach under the stars. And when we are tired of walking, we lie flat on the sand under a bowl of stars. We feel stretched, expanded to take in their compass. They pour into us until we are filled with stars, up to the brim. ~ Anne Morrow Lindbergh
Under The Stars quotes by Anne Morrow Lindbergh
Anyway," continued Mr. Miller, "when I was a kid, people used to sit under the stars at night and look up into the sky and talk about things. They got to know each other. People Today is too busy staring at the television, what I call the idiot box, to talk about anything. That's why there are so many divorces these days. People don't talk ~ K. Martin Beckner
Under The Stars quotes by K. Martin Beckner
Darkness fell, revealing a sparkling night sky so beautiful that we decided to sleep out under the stars. At gray dawn, Phyllis woke me with an urgent voice. "Bill, Bill," she said, "when I woke up I saw this huge boulder beside me, but it wasn't there last night. Look! Look!" she said and pointed next to her. It was the huge buffalo bull! He had come back during the night and lay down beside us to sleep. I was awestruck. I felt so honored, so grateful, so loved. I loved that buffalo with all my heart and soul. I felt like he knew it, and that was why he had come back to sleep with us.

But maybe there's a different reason. Judith Niles, a wise spiritual friend of mine recently told me that the spontaneous melody is "the voice of the soul." The minute she said it I knew she was right. Now I feel sure that the creatures responded to "the voice of the soul" amplified through my body. When we human beings finally get it together the natural world is going to respond to us in more wonderful ways than we can ever begin to imagine. ~ William "Billy" Packer
Under The Stars quotes by William
How good it must feel to stand for something. To commit oneself to a lost cause. To gather with other like-minded souls and lock arms and sing songs under the stars. Wallowing in futility. Championing it, actually. How wonderful it must be to fight only losing battles. How safe and how comfortable. To posit yourself squarely on the side of peace and good. How brave the sand on an eroding beach. ~ Chuck Hogan
Under The Stars quotes by Chuck Hogan
As they pedalled us down the long suburban road to the Chinese town a line of French armoured cars went by, each with its jutting gun and silent officer motionless like a figurehead under the stars and the black, smooth, concave sky––trouble again probably with a private army, the Binh Xuyen, who ran the Grand Monde and the gambling halls of Cholon. This was a land of rebellious barons. It was like Europe in the Middle Ages. But what were the Americans doing here? Columbus had not yet discovered their country. ~ Graham Greene
Under The Stars quotes by Graham Greene
We lay there, under the stars, the moonlight enveloping us like a letter, folded together to be forever united, skin and bone trained to get along. ~ Aishabella Sheikh
Under The Stars quotes by Aishabella Sheikh
Although Gene was white there was something of the wise and tired old Negro in him, and something very much like Elmer Hassel, the New York dope addict, in him, but a railroad Hassel, a traveling epic Hassel, crossing and recrossing the country every year, south in the winter and north in the summer, and only because he had no place he could stay in without getting tired of it and because there was nowhere to go but everywhere, keep rolling under the stars, generally the Western stars. ~ Jack Kerouac
Under The Stars quotes by Jack Kerouac
Mazy Watts, Charlotte, and a chorus of others who slowly gathered to the porch that night and sang until the sun came up. Maybe thirty people showed, maybe more, from who knows where, to sing, to praise, to give thanks, to ask for forgiveness, to ask for salvation, to lament, to exalt, to grieve, to accept, to weep, to live, to die, to sing the gospel. It was as if church were open all night under the stars. ~ Robin Schwarz
Under The Stars quotes by Robin Schwarz
But Siri knew the slow pace of books and the cadences of theater under the stars. I knew only the stars. ~ Dan Simmons
Under The Stars quotes by Dan Simmons
Civilization did not rise and flourish as men hammered out hunting scenes on bronze gates and whispered philosophy under the stars, with garbage as a noisome offshoot, swept away and forgotten. No, garbage rose first, inciting people to build a civilization in response, in self-defense. We had to find ways to discard our waste, to use what we couldn't discard, to reprocess what we couldn't use. Garbage pushed back. ~ Don DeLillo
Under The Stars quotes by Don DeLillo
Fiery goddess in search of the perfect god. Soar with me through clouds, frolic under the stars, hand me the moon for my own. Mortals need not reply. ~ Kate Perry
Under The Stars quotes by Kate Perry
This water was indeed a different thing from ordinary nourishment. Its sweetness was born of the walk under the stars, the song of the pulley, the effort of my arms. It was good for the heart, like a present. ~ Antoine De Saint Exupery
Under The Stars quotes by Antoine De Saint Exupery
Nothing but blackness above And nothing that moves but the cars ... God, if you wish for our love, Fling us a handful of stars! ~ Louis Untermeyer
Under The Stars quotes by Louis Untermeyer
Love, hatred, you have only to choose; they all sleep under the same roof; you can double your existence, caress with one hand and strike with the other. ~ Pierre-Ambroise Choderlos De Laclos
Under The Stars quotes by Pierre-Ambroise Choderlos De Laclos
I wrote the first book, Harvest of Stars, and as I was writing it, I saw that certain implications had barely been touched on ... It's perfectly obvious that two completely revolutionary things are going on, with cybernetics, and biological science. ~ Poul Anderson
Under The Stars quotes by Poul Anderson
I was filled with such a dangerous delicious intoxication that I could have walked straight off the steps into the air, climbing on the strength of my own drunkeness into the stars. And the intoxication, as I knew even then, was the recklessness of infinite possibility. ~ Doris Lessing
Under The Stars quotes by Doris Lessing
It's weird, man. I've had a weird life, and I don't want to end up on the dole. I'm fed up with the plumbing. And I think it would be good to be a little pop star again. ~ Brian Harvey
Under The Stars quotes by Brian Harvey
The destinies of the two races in this country are indissolubly linked together, and the interests of both require that the common government of all shall not permit the seeds of race hate to be planted under the sanction of law. ~ Bobby Scott
Under The Stars quotes by Bobby Scott
We had accepted each other's shortcomings and differences; then, just when we began to feel the yoke of each other's companionship, just when we began to feel the beginnings of what might eventually lead to lifelong loathing, we decided to move in together. It could have been worse. People marry at times like tat; they then have ten children, live under the same roof for years and years, eventually die and arrange to be buried side by side. We only signed our names to a two year lease. ~ Jamaica Kincaid
Under The Stars quotes by Jamaica Kincaid
I walked down the memory lane this afternoon,
The streets have changed now after the storm;
the ruins and the residues are cleared...
But the madness in the air still remains;
Every path I took had the same old smell,
Everything once again seemed like those early youth days under the mellow sun, with you. ~ Preetilata Kumari
Under The Stars quotes by Preetilata Kumari
The burning of a little straw may hide the stars, but the stars outlast the smoke. ~ Voltaire
Under The Stars quotes by Voltaire
I came into the world under the sign of Saturn
the star of the slowest revolution, the planet of detours and delays. ~ Walter Benjamin
Under The Stars quotes by Walter Benjamin
When everyone is seated, Galen uses a pot holder to remove the lid from the huge speckled pan in the center of the table. And I almost upchuck. Fish. Crabs. And...is that squid hair? Before I can think of a polite version of the truth-I'd rather eat my own pinky finger than seafood-Galen plops the biggest piece of fish on my plate, then scoops a mixture of crabmeat and scallops on top of it. As the steam wafts its way to my nose, my chances of staying polite dwindle. The only think I can think of is to make it look like I'm hiccupping instead of gagging. What did I smell earlier that almost had me salivating? It couldn't have been this.
I fork the fillet and twist, but it feels like twisting my own gut. Mush it, dice it, mix it all up. No matter what I do, how it looks, I can't bring it near my mouth. A promise is a promise, dream or no dream. Even if real fish didn't save me in Granny's pond, the fake ones my imagination conjured up sure comforted me until help arrived. And now I'm expected to eat their cousins? No can do.
I set the fork down and sip some water. I sense Galen is watching. Out of my peripheral, I see the others shoveling the chum into their faces. But not Galen. He sits still, head tilted, waiting for me to take a bite first.
Of all the times to be a gentleman! What happened to the guy who sprawled me over his lap like a three-year-old just a few minutes ago? Still, I can't do it. And they don't even have a dog for me to feed under the table, w ~ Anna Banks
Under The Stars quotes by Anna Banks
Yes, of course. Are you really so arrogant as to believe we are alone in this universe? Millions of stars, and we're supposed to be the only living creatures? No, there are many things out there, we just don't know. ~ Tom Cruise
Under The Stars quotes by Tom Cruise
I like how the implication there is that the fault, dear Brutus, lies not in our stars, but in me. Give me the car keys. ~ Katie Cotugno
Under The Stars quotes by Katie Cotugno
The West Indian is not exactly hostile to change, but he is not much inclined to believe in it. This comes from a piece of wisdom that his climate of eternal summer teaches him. It is that, under all the parade of human effort and noise, today is like yesterday, and tomorrow will be like today; that existence is a wheel of recurring patterns from which no one escapes; that all anybody does in this life is live for a while and then die for good, without finding out much; and that therefore the idea is to take things easy and enjoy the passing time under the sun. The white people charging hopefully around the islands these days in the noon glare, making deals, bulldozing airstrips, hammering up hotels, laying out marinas, opening new banks, night clubs, and gift shops, are to him merely a passing plague. They have come before and gone before. ~ Herman Wouk
