I have travel to the places I have been because, I had a vivid imagination of the places. ~ Lailah Gifty Akita
Traveling Alone quotes by Lailah Gifty Akita
Traveling alone, you get to be whoever you want. I don't mean lie. I mean you get to be a blank slate. You can't leave behind your skin color, or your height, or the handsomeness or homeliness of your face. But you can leave your story behind. If you've broken hearts, the new place doesn't know. If you've lost trust in people and yourself, the new place doesn't know. If everyone thinks you love Jesus, but you never really have figured out what you believe, the new place doesn't care. It may assume you have it all tied nicely in a bow. All your thoughts and histories. Just feeling like your past isn't a vice to hold you in place can be very freeing. Feeling like your family and the expectations and the traditions and the judgments are absent... it can fill your veins with possibility and fire. ~ Jedidiah Jenkins
Traveling Alone quotes by Jedidiah Jenkins
I'd learned so much from traveling to familiar places that I figured I'd learn twice as much by going to a place I knew nothing about. ~ Gerry Abbey
Traveling Alone quotes by Gerry Abbey
As usual, Junko thought about Jack London's 'To Build a Fire.' It was the story of a man traveling alone through the snowy Alaskan interior and his attempts to light a fire. He would freeze to death unless he could make it catch. The sun was going down. Junko hadn't read much fiction, but that one short story she had read again and again, ever since her teacher had assigned it as an essay topic during summer vacation of her first year in high school. The scene of the story would always come vividly to mind as she read. She could feel the man's fear and hope and despair as if they were her own; she could sense the very pounding of his heart as he hovered on the brink of death. Most important of all, though, was the fact that the man was fundamentally longing for death. She knew that for sure. She couldn't explain how she knew, but she knew it from the start. Death was really what he wanted. He knew that it was the right ending for him. And yet he had to go on fighting with all his might. He had to fight against an overwhelming adversary in order to survive. What most shook Junko was this deep-rooted contradiction.
The teacher ridiculed her view. 'Death is really what he wanted? That's a new one for me! And strange! Quite 'original,' I'd have to say.' He read her conclusion aloud before the class, and everybody laughed.
But Junko knew. All of them were wrong. Otherwise how could the ending of the story be so quiet and beautiful? ~ Haruki Murakami
Traveling Alone quotes by Haruki Murakami
The ride back to Kathmandu was comfortable and relaxing. There were more overturned trucks (the gas-powered ones seem to tip the most often, I'm surprised there weren't more explosions), goats being herded across the highway by ancient women, children playing games in traffic, private cars and buses alike pulling over in the most inconvenient places for a picnic or public bath, and best of all the suicidal overtaking maneuvers (or what we would call 'passing') by our bus and others while going downhill at incredible speeds or around hairpin turns uphill with absolutely no power left to actually get around the other vehicle. ~ Jennifer S. Alderson
Traveling Alone quotes by Jennifer S. Alderson
The thing about traveling alone, is that you run into your insecurities and fears times ten the normal! You run into all the good things and all the bad things about yourself on a daily basis, and are allowed the opportunity to truly become your own friend. Traveling alone is a learning process; some people travel for leisure, I travel to run into myself! ~ C. JoyBell C.
Traveling Alone quotes by C. JoyBell C.
Dreams and coffee and sunrises make up the rhythms of the road.
Music is a part of it, too: the popular music on the jukeboxes and radio stations. You hear it constantly, in diners and on car radios. The music has a rhythm that fits the steady drumming of tires over pavement. It seeps into your bloodstream. After a while it ceases to make any difference whether or not you like the stuff. When you're traveling alone, a nameless rider with a succession of strangers, it can give you a comforting sense of the familiar to hear the same music over and over.
At any given time, a few current hits will be overplayed to exhaustion by the rock & roll stations. In hitching across the continent, you might hear the same song fifty or sixty times. Certain songs become connected in your mind with certain trips. ~ Kenn Kaufman
Traveling Alone quotes by Kenn Kaufman
It seemed an advantage to be traveling alone. Our responses to the world are crucially moulded by the company we keep, for we temper our curiosity to fit in with the expectations of others ... Being closely observed by a companion can also inhibit our observation of others; then, too, we may become caught up in adjusting ourselves to the companion's questions and remarks, or feel the need to make ourselves seem more normal than is good for our curiosity. ~ Alain De Botton
Traveling Alone quotes by Alain De Botton
I never feel more alone than when I'm traveling. Alone and, to some extent, helpless. The world expects a certain level of competence and can be merciless when this expectation is unmet. ~ Philip Schultz
Traveling Alone quotes by Philip Schultz
Meandering cows, tenacious bicyclers, belching taxis, rickshaws, fearless pedestrians and the occasional mobile 'cigarette and sweets' stand all fought our taxi for room on the narrow two-lane road turned local byway. ~ Jennifer S. Alderson
Traveling Alone quotes by Jennifer S. Alderson
Define your path and travel on this path. ~ Lailah Gifty Akita
Traveling Alone quotes by Lailah Gifty Akita
Don't be scared to walk alone. Don't be scared to like it. ~ John Mayer
Traveling Alone quotes by John Mayer
We are not traveling alone, we cross paths with different people along the way. We may have an individual road to travel, but we cross paths with different people from time to time who would share different roles in our lives. These people may come and go, or even stay for a lifetime, but no matter what, they all came for a reason - to make this journey more meaningful. ~ Kcat Yarza
Traveling Alone quotes by Kcat Yarza
It's a long ride home with nothing but me for company. I bore myself sometimes. Not often. Just now and again. ~ David Hewson
Traveling Alone quotes by David Hewson
You enjoy solitude?" she asked, leaning her cheek on her hand. "Traveling alone, eating alone, sitting off by yourself in lecture halls ... "
"Nobody likes being alone that much. I don't go out of my way to make friends, that's all. It just leads to disappointment."
The tip of one earpiece in her mouth, sunglasses dangling down, she mumbled, "'Nobody likes being alone. I just hate to be disappointed.' You can use that line if you ever write your autobiography."
"Thanks," I said.
"Do you like green?"
"Why do you ask?"
"You're wearing a green polo shirt."
"Not especially. I'll wear anything."
"'Not especially. I'll wear anything.' I love the way you talk. Like spreading plaster nice and smooth. Has anybody ever told you that?"
"Nobody," I said. ~ Haruki Murakami
Traveling Alone quotes by Haruki Murakami
A girl who travels has relationships that are based not on security, but on sincerity ~ Lauren Klarfeld
Traveling Alone quotes by Lauren Klarfeld
In the '50s, I was traveling alone all over Mindanao, Basilan, all the way to Tawi-Tawi with just a camera and a notebook. I always stayed in the houses of Moros. ~ F. Sionil Jose
Traveling Alone quotes by F. Sionil Jose
I envision a world filled with women traveling alone and meeting each other on the path. ~ SARK
Traveling Alone quotes by SARK
When you take the right stairs you will arrive at the precise destination. ~ Lailah Gifty Akita
Traveling Alone quotes by Lailah Gifty Akita
I've grown tired of traveling alone, won't you ride with me? ~ Jason Isbell
Traveling Alone quotes by Jason Isbell
When I travel, people say 'Yet another place in this world'. But I see 'Another world inside every place I go ~ Vivek Thangaswamy
Traveling Alone quotes by Vivek Thangaswamy
One of the disadvantages of traveling alone is that when you fall there is none to assist you. ~ Roger Zelazny
Traveling Alone quotes by Roger Zelazny
Becoming free is learning about yourself; the scared and the insecure, the brilliant and the bold. Embrace both and the journey is yours and yours alone. No longer are you following another's directions and your path and purpose will present themselves. Only then might you find another wandering soul doing the same thing, who can walk with you but on their own journey. All of a sudden you might find a shared passion and a wrinkled map on the trail that makes sense. ~ Riitta Klint
Traveling Alone quotes by Riitta Klint
I had to stop traveling alone because I missed so many planes. When somebody runs up to you in the airport and begins to tell you their life story, you can't say, 'Excuse me, boo,' as they're weeping on your bosom. ~ Iyanla Vanzant
Traveling Alone quotes by Iyanla Vanzant
I ended up in the back seat of a chicken truck's cab heading through beautiful scenery and disastrous roads to my hotel. About an hour later, we stopped to sell a few hundred of the chickens to a butcher shop. ~ Jennifer S. Alderson
Traveling Alone quotes by Jennifer S. Alderson
I've been living alone for so long, everything about me's private. I'm surprised anyone's able to understand a word I say. ~ Kurt Vonnegut
Traveling Alone quotes by Kurt Vonnegut
Alone was the note that Cade knew best. It was the root of all her chords. ~ Amy Rose Capetta
Traveling Alone quotes by Amy Rose Capetta
Friendship means never having to be alone, it means there's a constant wall of solidarity even when everything else is crumbling around you. If he's the crumble in your life, then I'll be the damn wall! ~ Emma Hart
Traveling Alone quotes by Emma Hart
It's not what you take when you leave this world behind you. It's what you leave behind you when you go. ~ Randy Travis
Traveling Alone quotes by Randy Travis
Most High, all powerful, good Lord,
Yours are the praises, the glory, the honor,
and all blessing.

To You alone, Most High, do they belong,
and no man is worthy to mention Your name.

Be praised, my Lord, through all your creatures,
especially through my lord Brother Sun,
who brings the day; and you give light through him.
And he is beautiful and radiant in all his splendor!
Of you, Most High, he bears the likeness.

Praise be You, my Lord, through Sister Moon
and the stars, in heaven you formed them
clear and precious and beautiful.

Praised be You, my Lord, through Brother Wind,
and through the air, cloudy and serene,
and every kind of weather through which
You give sustenance to Your creatures.

Praised be You, my Lord, through Sister Water,
which is very useful and humble and precious and chaste.

Praised be You, my Lord, through Brother Fire,
through whom you light the night and he is beautiful
and playful and robust and strong.

Praised be You, my Lord, through Sister Mother Earth,
who sustains us and governs us and who produces
varied fruits with colored flowers and herbs.

Praised be You, my Lord,
through those who give pardon for Your love,
and bear infirmity and tribulation.

Blessed are those who endure in peace
for by You, Most High, they shall be crowned.

Praised b ~ Francis Of Assisi
Traveling Alone quotes by Francis Of Assisi
I had family and friends back home. Just because I could potentially feel alone in Los Angeles, that didn't mean I was alone. ~ Alona Tal
Traveling Alone quotes by Alona Tal
It always seemed, and still seems, ridiculously simple to say that if one can acquire a diversified group of common stocks at a price less than the applicable net current assets alone - after deducting all prior claims, and counting as zero the fixed and other assets - the results should be quite satisfactory. ~ Benjamin Graham
Traveling Alone quotes by Benjamin Graham
Tom's army won a great victory, after a long and hard-fought battle. Then the dead were counted, prisoners exchanged, the terms of the next disagreement agreed upon, and the day for the necessary battle appointed; after which the armies fell into line and marched away, and Tom turned homeward alone. ~ Mark Twain
Traveling Alone quotes by Mark Twain
Even though conditions such as lack of sleep, insufficient food and various mental stresses may suggest that the inmates were bound to react in certain ways, in the final analysis it becomes clear that the sort of person the prisoner became was the result of an inner decision, and not the result of camp influences alone. ~ Viktor E. Frankl
Traveling Alone quotes by Viktor E. Frankl
[ ... ]virtue is not some kind of mode whose value is
incontestable, it is simply
a scheme of conduct, a way of getting along, which varies
according to accidents of geography and climate and which, consequently, has no
reality, the which alone exhibits its futility.
Only what is constant is really good; what changes perpetually cannot
claim that
characterization: that is why they have declared that immutability belongs to the
ranks of the Eternal's perfections; but virtue is completely without this quality: there
is not, upon the entire globe, two races which are virtuous in the same m
anner;
hence, virtue is not in any sense real, nor in any wise intrinsically good and in no sort
deserves our reverence. ~ Marquis De Sade
Traveling Alone quotes by Marquis De Sade
Independence means.. enjoying freedom and empowering others too to let them do so. ~ Vikrmn
Traveling Alone quotes by Vikrmn
There was a strong sense of being alone, in wintry deadness. Nothing made sense in any direction. ~ Donna Tartt
Traveling Alone quotes by Donna Tartt
I was thrilled by discovery, crushed by disappointment, and mortified by any misplaced enthusiasm. I declared allegiance, took a position, and always had a view, not noticing that girls were bemused and boys found me boring. Was a girl not supposed to feel so strongly, let alone want so much to possess and know something for her own sake? ~ Lavinia Greenlaw
Traveling Alone quotes by Lavinia Greenlaw
Sitting out on the canoe tonight, watching the indigo waters of the South China Sea, I noticed the waxing moon calculating that maybe by the time it is full we'll be back in the U.S. of A. I shed a few tears for Michael again. I was hoping his ghost would materialize just to let me know there actually is a spiritual realm but no such luck. It was just me, alone. It's so bizarre. He was here and now… he's gone. That's the way it is. We are… and then, we are no more. Two or three loved ones keep our memory alive… and then, they are no more. And we all fade into that massive vapor cloud of forgotten souls. Why were we even here in the first place?
I began to stand up. That's when I saw it. It entered the night sky from the west and streaked to the east, forming a brilliant but thin arc of flame. A shooting star. A meteorite. Was that my confirmation? I would like to think so. ~ Gerald Maclennon
Traveling Alone quotes by Gerald Maclennon
Another like me? Don't leave me out here with myself! I'd go mad. Please
don't leave me alone, Samuel! Just take me home!" Tears stream down her face.
"Please take me home! ~ Nathan Reese Maher
Traveling Alone quotes by Nathan Reese Maher
Time, Baby - so much, so much time left until the end of my life - sometimes I go crazy at how slowly time passes yet how quickly my body ages.
But I shouldn't allow myself to think like this. I have to remind myself that time only frightens me when I think of having to spend it alone. Sometimes I scare myself with how many of my thoughts revolve around making me feel better about sleeping alone in a room. ~ Douglas Coupland
Traveling Alone quotes by Douglas Coupland
I believe that no man who holds a leader's position should ever accept favors from either side. He is then committed to show favors. A leader must stand alone. ~ Mother Jones
Traveling Alone quotes by Mother Jones
Peace of mind is brought about by dhyana alone. Dhyana is holding on to a single thought and putting off all other thoughts. ~ Ramananda Prasad
Traveling Alone quotes by Ramananda Prasad
Many Christians backslide ... They are unable to stand against the temptations of the world, or of their old nature. They strive to do their best to fight against sin, and to serve God, but they have no strength. They have never really grasped the secret: The Lord Jesus will every day from heaven continue His work in me. But on one condition-the soul must give Him time each day to impart His love and his grace. Time alone with the Lord Jesus each day is the indispensable condition of growth and power. ~ Andy Murray
Traveling Alone quotes by Andy Murray
And that is not all: even if man really were nothing but a piano-key, even if this were proved to him by natural science and mathematics, even then he would not become reasonable, but would purposely do something perverse out of simple ingratitude, simply to gain his point. And if he does not find means he will contrive destruction and chaos, will contrive sufferings of all sorts, only to gain his point! He will launch a curse upon the world, and as only man can curse (it is his privilege, the primary distinction between him and other animals), may be by his curse alone he will attain his object--that is, convince himself that he is a man and not a piano-key! If you say that all this, too, can be calculated and tabulated--chaos and darkness and curses, so that the mere possibility of calculating it all beforehand would stop it all, and reason would reassert itself, then man would purposely go mad in order to be rid of reason and gain his point! ~ Fyodor Dostoyevsky
Traveling Alone quotes by Fyodor Dostoyevsky
If perchance you should falter during the journey, a hand would be there to support you. If that should be wanting, God, who alone could take that hand from you, would Himself accomplish its work. ~ Louis Pasteur
Traveling Alone quotes by Louis Pasteur
Seeing yourself as part of a creative lineage will help you feel less alone as you start making your own stuff. I hang pictures of my favourite artists in my studio. They're like friendly ghosts. I can almost feel them pushing me forward as I'm hunched over my desk. ~ Austin Kleon
Traveling Alone quotes by Austin Kleon
As a child, I spent a lot of time alone. I used to sit in my closet with one cracker. I'd pretend that I was on the North Pole freezing to death, and I had to somehow survive on this one tiny cracker. ~ Teri Hatcher
Traveling Alone quotes by Teri Hatcher
Usha is Kavita's choice alone, a secret name for her secret daughter. The thought brings a smile to her face. That one day she spent with her daughter was precious. Though she was exhausted, she would not sleep. She didn't want to miss a single moment. Kavita held her baby close, watched her small body rise and fall with breath, traced her delicate eyebrows and the folds of her tender skin. She nursed her when she cried, and in those few moments when Usha was awake, Kavita saw herself unmistakably in the distinctive gold-flecked eyes, more beautiful on her child than on herself. She could hardly believe this lovely creature was hers. She didn't allow herself to think beyond that day.At least this baby girl will be allowed to live - a chance to grow up, go to school, maybe even marry and have children. Kavita knows, along with her daughter, she is forsaking any hope of helping her along the path of life. Usha will never know her parents, but she has a chance at life, and that will have to be enough. Kavita slides one of the two thin silver bangles she always wears from her own frail wrist and slips it onto Usha's ankle.
"I'm sorry I cannot give you more, beti," she whispers into her downy head. ~ Shilpi Somaya Gowda
Traveling Alone quotes by Shilpi Somaya Gowda
Being alone in the dark - surrounded by silence, frightful. Thoughts breathe a life of their own; twisting and turning on each other as enemies unto themselves. ~ Veronica Purcell
Traveling Alone quotes by Veronica Purcell
I hadn't talked to myself in a while, but then again, I was all alone. I was my only true supporter. And loneliness is a bitch. ~ Stevie J. Cole
Traveling Alone quotes by Stevie J. Cole
We must go out to Pure Life, Pure Truth, Pure Love, and that is the definition of God. He is the ultimate goal of life; from Him we came, and in Him alone do we find our peace. ~ Fulton J. Sheen
Traveling Alone quotes by Fulton J. Sheen
It is natural to believe in God when you're alone
quite alone, in the night, thinking about death. ~ Aldous Huxley
Traveling Alone quotes by Aldous Huxley
He saw her as the passionate spirit of innocent youth, now beleaguered by the trick which is played on youth - the trick of treachery in the body, which turns flesh into green bones. Her stupid finery was not vulgar to him, but touching. The girl was still there, still appealing from behind the breaking barricade of rouge. She had made the brave protest: I will not be vanquished. Under the clumsy coquetry, the undignified clothes, there was the human cry for help. The young eyes were puzzled, saying: It is I, inside here - what have they done to me? I will not submit. Some part of her spirit knew that the powder was making a guy of her, and hated it, and tried to hold her lover with the eyes alone. They said: Don't look at all this. Look at me. I am still here, in the eyes. Look at me, here in the prison, and help me out. Another part said: I am not old, it is illusion. I am beautifully made-up. See, I will perform the movements of youth. I will defy the enormous army of age. ~ T.H. White
Traveling Alone quotes by T.H. White
The pain done to Housman allowed him to rise above the mediocre and to find the words that most of us need help in order to say. The price paid by Housman was a life alone; the righteous rhymer enduring each year unloved and unable to love: ~ Morrissey
Traveling Alone quotes by Morrissey
Why is it that traveling Americans are always so dreadful? ~ Sinclair Lewis
Traveling Alone quotes by Sinclair Lewis
It is a great mystery that though the human heart longs for Truth, in which alone it finds liberation and delight, the first reaction of human beings to Truth is one of hostility and fear! ~ Anthony De Mello
Traveling Alone quotes by Anthony De Mello
