I applied for funding to embark on an overseas field trip in Iceland, and spent six weeks there happily holed up in the national archives, museums and libraries, sifting through ministerial and parish records, censuses, maps, microfilm, logs, and local histories. ~ Hannah Kent

Toomore Parish Records quotes by Kristin Hersh
We moved into the back, made it into a little 50s sitting room and started to sell the records. We had an immediate success. For one thing, these Teddy Boys were thrilled to buy the records. ~ Vivienne Westwood
Toomore Parish Records quotes by Vivienne Westwood
When I came out rapping on my record, a lot of people said, Oh, you just want to be like Puff. ~ Jermaine Dupri
Toomore Parish Records quotes by Jermaine Dupri
I've been told if you're an actress you can't sing, if you're a dancer you can't act, you can't do theatre and be respected if you've done a TV soap, you can't have a No. 1 record. All these different things they've told me I can't do, but I wanted to do them, so I've done them. ~ Martine McCutcheon
Toomore Parish Records quotes by Martine McCutcheon
I don't have to put out another rap record. I can do it at my casual pace. ~ Ice-T
Toomore Parish Records quotes by Ice-T
Has the God who made the white man and the black left any record declaring us a different species? Are we not sustained by the same power, supported by the same food ... And should we not then enjoy the same liberty ... ? ~ James Forten
Toomore Parish Records quotes by James Forten
I remember when in the early days of rock'n'roll, when everything sounded totally different, all amazing and blah blah blah blah blah. Now you can play me one second of any record from that time, and I'll say "1959" or "1961." I can hear precisely. It's like it has a huge date stamp on it. ~ Brian Eno
Toomore Parish Records quotes by Brian Eno
I really hope that when someone puts my record on that they hear me. ~ Sharon Van Etten
Toomore Parish Records quotes by Sharon Van Etten
I'm not against the NSA. I'm not against spying; I'm not against looking at phone records. ~ Rand Paul
Toomore Parish Records quotes by Rand Paul
The baby, not too young to start knowing the ledge, the cold truth, the life-and-death facts of it all. 'What kind of heaven is that, you can't have your records?' The baby, understanding perhaps it was purely rhetorical, made no attempt to answer this question. ~ Michael Chabon
Toomore Parish Records quotes by Michael Chabon
Most of what's known about religious practices in pre-Hispanic Mexico has come to us through a Catholic parish priest named Hernando Ruiz de Alarcón, one of the few who ever became fluent in the Nahuatl language. He spent the 1620s writing his "Treatise on the Superstitions and Heathen Customs that Today Live Among the Indians Native to This New Spain". He'd originally meant it to be something of a "field guide to the heathens" to help priests recognize and exterminate indigenous religious rites and their practitioners. In the process of his documentation, though, it's clear from his writings that Father Ruiz de Alarcón grew sympathetic. He was particularly fascinated with how Nahuatl people celebrated the sacred in ordinary objects, and encouraged living and spirit realities to meet up in the here and now. He noted that the concept of "death" as an ending did not exactly exist for them. When Aztec people left their bodies, they were presumed to be on an exciting trip through the ether. It wasn't something to cry about, except that the living still wanted to visit with them. People's sadness was not for the departed, but for themselves, and could be addressed through ritual visiting called Xantolo, an ordinary communion between the dead and the living. Mexican tradition still holds that Xantolo is always present in certain places and activities, including marigold fields, the cultivation of corn, the preparation of tamales and pan de muerto. Interestingly, farmers' markets ar ~ Barbara Kingsolver
Toomore Parish Records quotes by Barbara Kingsolver
I often say to people that producing is the best-paid form of cowardice. When you produce things, you almost always get credit if it's a good record, but you hardly ever get the blame if it's not! You don't really take responsibility for your work. ~ Brian Eno
Toomore Parish Records quotes by Brian Eno
I go by records and Bob Paisley is the No 1 manager ever! ~ Alan Hansen
Toomore Parish Records quotes by Alan Hansen
He was known by three names. The official records have the first one: Marcos Maria Ribeira. And his official data. Born 1929. Died 1970. Worked in the steel foundry. Perfect safety record. Never arrested. A wife, six children. A model citizen, because he never did anything bad enough to go on the public record.
The second name he had was Marcao. Big Marcos. Because he was a giant of a man. Reached his adult size early in his life. How old was he when he reached two meters? Eleven? Definitely by the time he was twelve. His size and strength made him valuable in the foundry, where the lots of steel are so small that much of the work is controlled by hand and strength matters. People's lives depended on Marcao's strength.
His third name was Cao. Dog. That was the name you used for him when you heard his wife, Novinha, had another black eye, walked with a limp, had stitches in her lip. He was an animal to do that to her.
Not that any of you liked Novinha. Not that cold woman who never gave any of you good morning. But she was smaller than he was, and she was the mother of his children, and when he beat her, he deserved the name of Cao.
Tell me, is this the man you knew? Spent more hours in the bars than anyone but never made any friends there, never the camaraderie of alcohol for him. You couldn't even tell how much he had been drinking. He was surly and short-tempered before he had a drink and he was surly and short-tempered right before he passed out-nob ~ Orson Scott Card
Toomore Parish Records quotes by Orson Scott Card
You can't trust an artist that just makes good records. ~ Nick Cave
Toomore Parish Records quotes by Nick Cave
If any of you in any way hate homosexuals, people of a different color, or women, please do this one favor for us - leave us the fuck alone! Don't come to our shows and don't buy our records. ~ Chuck Klosterman
Toomore Parish Records quotes by Chuck Klosterman
There is, simply, no way, to ignore privacy. Because a citizenry's freedoms are interdependent, to surrender your own privacy is really to surrender everyone's. You might choose to give it up out of convenience, or under the popular pretext that privacy is only required by those who have something to hide. But saying that you don't need or want privacy because you have nothing to hide is to assume that no one should have, or could have to hide anything – including their immigration status, unemployment history, financial history, and health records. You're assuming that no one, including yourself, might object to revealing to anyone information about their religious beliefs, political affiliations and sexual activities, as casually as some choose to reveal their movie and music tastes and reading preferences. Ultimately, saying that you don't care about privacy because you have nothing to hide is no different from saying you don't care about freedom of speech because you have nothing to say. Or that you don't care about freedom of the press because you don't like to read. Or that you don't care about freedom of religion because you don't believe in God. Or that you don't care about the freedom to peaceably assemble because you're a lazy, antisocial agoraphobe. Just because this or that freedom might not have meaning to you today doesn't mean that that it doesn't or won't have meaning tomorrow, to you, or to your neighbor – or to the crowds of principled dissidents I was follo ~ Edward Snowden
Toomore Parish Records quotes by Edward Snowden
I don't care much about my personal record. I just want to be able to pitch in the playoffs. ~ CC Sabathia
Toomore Parish Records quotes by CC Sabathia
Observe, record, tabulate, communicate. Use your five senses. Learn to see, learn to hear, learn to feel, learn to smell, and know that by practice alone you can become expert. ~ William Osler
Toomore Parish Records quotes by William Osler
I like to record records in Los Angeles. It's less distracting than New York, where I was based. ~ Rain Phoenix
Toomore Parish Records quotes by Rain Phoenix
My mother was the only one who encouraged and inspired me for singing. She was singing all the time in the house, playing records also. ~ Bonnie Tyler
Toomore Parish Records quotes by Bonnie Tyler
I hate it when you buy a record for the single and find out that is the only good song on the album. ~ Christian Burns
Toomore Parish Records quotes by Christian Burns
If you go by other people's opinions or predictions,
you'll just end up talking yourself out of something.
If you're running down the track of life thinking that
it's impossible to break life's records,
those thoughts have a funny way of sinking into your feet. ~ Carl Lewis
Toomore Parish Records quotes by Carl Lewis
I'm glad that, despite everything, I was able to get work done and finish something. I never finish anything. So just being able to finish record and to make music is a great gift. ~ Zachary Cole Smith
Toomore Parish Records quotes by Zachary Cole Smith
My heart is still there in gospel music. It never left ... I'm gonna make a gospel record and tell Jesus I cannot bear these burdens alone. ~ Aretha Franklin
Toomore Parish Records quotes by Aretha Franklin
Hillary's [Clinton] policies on climate change are a problem too. We ignore her track record at our peril. ~ Jill Stein
Toomore Parish Records quotes by Jill Stein
A politician's record is like a tin kettle to a dog's tale - it's a noisy appendage, wich makes the dog conspicuous and invites everybody to shy a brick at him. ~ David Ross Locke
Toomore Parish Records quotes by David Ross Locke
I learned in the last few years that it's really unhappy and really unsustainable to try and base your well being on something as arbitrary as record sale and critical acclaim and the interests of the public. All of those things are so fickle. So my approach now to music is I want to make records that I love, and I hope that other people love them, then that's OK. ~ Moby
Toomore Parish Records quotes by Moby
I stand to inherit a lot from my father, including high cholesterol and diabetes. Oh, and maybe a few Beatles records. Actually, the first two don't sound bad compared to the last one. ~ Jarod Kintz
Toomore Parish Records quotes by Jarod Kintz
Brooklyn is where I primarily developed. I had an opportunity to make records and perform in clubs here and there, and I started networking with the right people in the right places. ~ Busta Rhymes
Toomore Parish Records quotes by Busta Rhymes
Memory is the great deceiver. Perhaps there are some individuals whose memories act like tape recordings, daily records of their lives complete in every detail, but I am not one of them. My memory is a patchwork of occurrences, of discontinuous events roughly sewn together: The parts I remember, I remember precisely, whilst other sections seemed to have vanished completely. ~ Neil Gaiman
Toomore Parish Records quotes by Neil Gaiman
I went through this difficult time [in the 1984] when we were making our third record where I kind of lost my mind. That's when the bulimia kicked in. And that's when I got really freaky. ~ Michael Stipe
Toomore Parish Records quotes by Michael Stipe
Collecting records is, for many, beyond a hobby. ~ Henry Rollins
Toomore Parish Records quotes by Henry Rollins
When I'm making records, I don't go in with any intentional [ideas for] cohesion, it just happens by accident. That's the X factor; you can't predict that. ~ Jason Lytle
Toomore Parish Records quotes by Jason Lytle
My mother knew how to read music and everything. But I just kinda learned off of records. And so, I was listening to records and I'd play 'em over and over. ~ Clint Eastwood
Toomore Parish Records quotes by Clint Eastwood
This record has a lot of influences that I'd love to cover, like Marvin Gaye and Earth, Wind and Fire. Maybe I'll do some covers of my major influences during my live show. ~ Jon Secada
Toomore Parish Records quotes by Jon Secada
Why are we so afraid of silence? Teenagers cannot study without their records; they walk along the street with their transistors. Grownups are as bad if not worse; we turn on the TV or the radio the minute we come into the house or start the car. The pollution of noise in our cities is as destructive as the pollution of air. We show our fear of silence in our conversation: I wonder if the orally-minded Elizabethan's used "um" and "er" the way we do? And increasingly prevalent is what my husband calls an articulated pause: "You know." We interject "you know" meaninglessly into every sentence, in order that the flow of our speech should not be interrupted by such a terrifying thing as silence. ~ Madeleine L'Engle
Toomore Parish Records quotes by Madeleine L'Engle
Before we started writing we did feel pressure because of the success of the first record. One of the first songs that we wrote was "Out Of My Heart" which is the first single. As soon as we wrote that, we knew we just set the standard and every other song had to be as good if not better. ~ Christian Burns
