When I got the script for Thelma & Louise, when I met with the director, Ridley Scott, I said, "I don't want to do a revenge film. I'm not interested in doing that moment in the script after they shoot the truck, where it says they jump up and down and they're real happy about it". ~ Susan Sarandon
Thelma Louise quotes by Susan Sarandon
'Thelma & Louise' really hit a nerve, and I loved that movie. ~ Richard LaGravenese
Thelma Louise quotes by Richard LaGravenese
Gamache enjoyed going to churches for their music and the beauty of the language and the stillness. But he felt closer to God in his Volvo. ~ Louise Penny

Youth, ah, Youth! all men's desire and sorrow. ~ Louise Imogen Guiney
Thelma Louise quotes by Louise Imogen Guiney
They moved in dance steps too intricate for the noninitiated eye to imitate or understand. Clearly they were of one soul. Handsome, rangy, wildly various, they were bound in total loyalty, not by oath, but by the simple, unquestioning belongingness of part of one organism. ~ Louise Erdrich
Thelma Louise quotes by Louise Erdrich
Right. But do you think I could face my children otherwise? You know what's going to happen as well as I do, Jack, and I hope and pray I can get Jem and Scout through it without bitterness, and most of all, without catching Maycomb's usual disease. Why reasonable people go stark raving mad when anything involving a Negro comes up, is something I don't pretend to understand... I just hope that Jem and Scout come to me for their answers instead of listening to the town. I hope they trust me enough... Jean Louise?" My scalp jumped. I stuck my head around the corner. "Sir?" "Go to bed. ~ Harper Lee
Thelma Louise quotes by Harper Lee
We know there exists a planet with four thousand different versions of songbirds. Because that is possible and because on that same planet can exist sentient beings made up almost entirely of stardust, and because bonafide poetry erupts mightily from some of those beings, and there is music, sex, and babies that laugh in their sleep; because we are roaming a universe that may be a hologram, with another dimension consecutively projecting itself outside this construct of reality and gravity; because of all that, there is no reason why my prayers shouldn't be able to reach your mother whose name I don't even know. ~ Mary-Louise Parker
Thelma Louise quotes by Mary-Louise Parker
Writing is 1 percent inspiration, and 99 percent elimination. ~ Louise Brooks
Thelma Louise quotes by Louise Brooks
I will not have him in my brain;there is no room for anyone else in the cakeshop of agony. it's crowded enough in there already. ~ Louise Rennison
Thelma Louise quotes by Louise Rennison
She has the look of one who seeks
some greater and destroying passion ~ Louise Gluck
Thelma Louise quotes by Louise Gluck
All my works have vessels of some sort. Containers. Sometimes it's in the negative space, sometimes it's more obvious ...
He's very loyal. He puts everything he has into one thing. one interest, one hobby, one friend, one love. I'm his love and it scares the shit out of me ... He's poured all his love into me. I'm his vessel. But suppose I crack? Suppose I break? Suppose I die? What would he do? ~ Louise Penny
Thelma Louise quotes by Louise Penny
You can't reach for anything new if your hands are still full of yesterday's junk. ~ Louise Smith
Thelma Louise quotes by Louise Smith
True revolutions in art restore more than they destroy. ~ Louise Bogan
Thelma Louise quotes by Louise Bogan
Dreams and goals keep us young and interested in life. ~ Louise Hay
Thelma Louise quotes by Louise Hay
The assignment was to fall in love.
The details were up to you.
The second part was
to include in the poem certain words,
words drawn from a specific text
on another subject altogether. ~ Louise Gluck
Thelma Louise quotes by Louise Gluck
Young Langlois had sat down and gathered that power to him. The power that came from having information, knowledge, thoughts, and a calm place to collect them. ~ Louise Penny
Thelma Louise quotes by Louise Penny
My body is not my own any more. They have stamped their names all over it. ~ Louise O'Neill
Thelma Louise quotes by Louise O'Neill
Quite often I'm terribly disappointed by how things turn out, but that's usually my own fault for the simple reason that I'm too quick to conclude that things have turned out as fully as it is possible for them to turn, when in fact, quite often, they are still on the turn and have some way to go until they have turned out completely. ~ Claire-Louise Bennett
Thelma Louise quotes by Claire-Louise Bennett
Vaisey said, "Is it because your parents don't understand you?"
Charlie said, "No, it's because our parents understand us very well, and that is why they wanted us to go away. ~ Louise Rennison
Thelma Louise quotes by Louise Rennison
In our own beginnings, we are formed out of the body's interior landscape. For a short while, our mothers' bodies are the boundaries and personal geography which are all that we know of the world ... Once we no longer live beneath our mother's heart, it is the earth with which we form the same dependent relationship, relying ... on its cycles and elements, helpless without its protective embrace. ~ Louise Erdrich
Thelma Louise quotes by Louise Erdrich
The invisible bond that gives the baby rein to discover his place in the world also brings the creeping baby back to home base ... In this way he recharges himself. He refuels on the loving energies that flow to him from his mother. Then he's off for another foray of adventure and exploration. ~ Louise J. Kaplan
Thelma Louise quotes by Louise J. Kaplan
The skyscraper and the twentieth century are synonymous; the tall building is the landmark of our age ... Shaper of cities and fortunes, it is the dream, past and present, acknowledged or unacknowledged, of almost every architect. ~ Ada Louise Huxtable
Thelma Louise quotes by Ada Louise Huxtable
People have one of two extreme reactions to my book. They either throw it across the room, or they rush out and buy 10 copies. The message I'm giving out, that what we think about becomes true for us, and negative thoughts mean good things don't happen, isn't always easy for some people to take. ~ Louise Hay
Thelma Louise quotes by Louise Hay
My mom was a professional. My dad and mom met each other in a movie called 'New Faces of 1937.' My mom went under the name Thelma Leeds, and she did a few movies, and she was really a great singer, and when she married my dad and started to have a family, she sang at parties. ~ Albert Brooks
Thelma Louise quotes by Albert Brooks
She's beautiful, but it's a faded beauty now, as if she's been washed too many times. ~ Louise O'Neill
Thelma Louise quotes by Louise O'Neill
I'm a work horse. I like to work. I always did. I think that there is such a thing as energy, creation overflowing. And I always felt that I have this great energy and it was bound to sort of burst at the seams, so that my work automatically took its place with a mind like mine. I've never had a day when I didn't want to work. I've never had a day like that. And I knew that a day I took away from the work did not make me too happy. I just feel that I'm in tune with the right vibrations in the universe when I'm in the process of working ... In my studio I'm as happy as a cow in her stall. ~ Louise Berliawsky Nevelson
Thelma Louise quotes by Louise Berliawsky Nevelson
Surprised by Joy Professor ~ Louise Penny
Thelma Louise quotes by Louise Penny
Oh, don't get me started! I love fantasy, I read it for pleasure, even after all these years. Pat McKillip, Ursula Le Guin and John Crowley are probably my favorite writers in the field, in addition to all the writers in the Endicott Studio group - but there are many others I also admire. In children's fantasy, I'm particularly keen on Philip Pullman, Donna Jo Napoli, David Almond and Jane Yolen - though my favorite novels recently were Midori Snyder's Hannah's Garden, Holly Black's Tithe, and Neil Gaiman's Coraline.

I read a lot of mainstream fiction as well - I particularly love Alice Hoffman, A.S. Byatt, Sara Maitland, Sarah Waters, Sebastian Faulks, and Elizabeth Knox. There's also a great deal of magical fiction by Native American authors being published these days - Louise Erdrich's Antelope Wife, Alfredo Vea Jr.'s Maravilla, Linda Hogan's Power, and Susan Power's Grass Dancer are a few recent favorites.

I'm a big fan of Jane Austen, Charlotte Bronte, Charles Dickens, and Anthony Trollope - I re-read Jane Austen's novels in particular every year.Other fantasists say they read Tolkien every year, but for me it's Austen. I adore biographies, particularly biographies of artists and writers (and particularly those written by Michael Holroyd). And I love books that explore the philosophical side of art, such as Lewis Hyde's The Gift, Carolyn Heilbrun's Writing a Woman's Life, or David Abram's Spell of the Sensuous.

(from a 2002 interview) ~ Terri Windling

Thelma Louise quotes by Louise Erdrich
In a time lacking in truth and certainty and filled with anguish and despair, no woman should be shamefaced in attempting to give back to the world, through her work, a portion of its lost heart. ~ Louise Bogan
Thelma Louise quotes by Louise Bogan
People still lived on the margins of the land they had owned. ~ Louise Erdrich
Thelma Louise quotes by Louise Erdrich
Of all the things we keep inside the worst are secrets. The things we are so ashamed of, so afraid of, we need to hide them even from ourselves. Secrets lead to delusion and delusion leads to lies, and lies create a wall.
Our secrets make us sick because they separate us from other people. Keep us alone. Turn us into fearful, angry, bitter people. Turn us against others, and finally against ourselves. ~ Louise Penny
Thelma Louise quotes by Louise Penny
I originally feared she might be dead, which felt like a sealed book that I would never be able to read. To have a birth mother die before getting any closure or answers seemed like it would be a cruel twist of fate. ~ Janet Louise Stephenson
Thelma Louise quotes by Janet Louise Stephenson
I stood for parliament with the amazing support and help of my ex-husband, but it's not something that was handed to me like a peerage. I worked hard and was elected. So my achievements, such as they are, are my own. ~ Louise Mensch
Thelma Louise quotes by Louise Mensch
Do you know why we're all happy here, monsieur? Because it's the last house on the road. ~ Louise Penny
