What we can see in most societies is the gravity of suffering, tears of sorrow and nightmares of hopelessness. ~ Nilantha Ilangamuwa
Tears Of Sorrow quotes by Nilantha Ilangamuwa
If wars were declared by love, there would be no tears of sorrow, only tears of joy. ~ Matshona Dhliwayo
Tears Of Sorrow quotes by Matshona Dhliwayo
Your tears of sorrow today will bring bliss in the future ... ~ Ras Obenn
Tears Of Sorrow quotes by Ras Obenn
A kiss is the prize?' he asked sadly. 'Even more than giving me the rest of you? It should be the other way round, Princess. In the real world, it's called courting. You let a lad kiss you and then you offer him more.'

'Let me tell you something, Olivier,' she said with tears of sorrow in her eyes, 'this is my real world. ~ Melina Marchetta
Tears Of Sorrow quotes by Melina Marchetta
Laughter is equally the expression of extreme anguish and horror as of joy: as there are tears of sorrow and tears of joy, so is there a laugh of terror and a laugh of merriment. ~ Samuel Taylor Coleridge
Tears Of Sorrow quotes by Samuel Taylor Coleridge
Too much happiness always overflowed into tears of sorrow. ~ Amy Tan
Tears Of Sorrow quotes by Amy Tan
The sorrow which has no vent in tears
may make other organs weep. ~ Henry Maudsley
Tears Of Sorrow quotes by Henry Maudsley
Then Ardent, heavy hearted, turned away; sore for the rusted armor and the wasted days: but as Sir Constant saw his shield, and lo! the lost Emblem of the King was shining once more through its veil of dishonor. For the heart's tears of sorrow had fallen upon the shield, and where they had fallen they had burned away the shame and stain. ~ W.E. Cule
Tears Of Sorrow quotes by W.E. Cule
There is a blessèd home,
Beyond this land of woe,
Where trials never come,
Nor tears of sorrow flow;
Where faith is lost in sight,
And patient hope is crowned,
And everlasting light
Its glory throws around. ~ Henry W. Baker
Tears Of Sorrow quotes by Henry W. Baker
Both winners and losers shed tears; the former shed tears of joy, and the latter, tears of sorrow. ~ Matshona Dhliwayo
Tears Of Sorrow quotes by Matshona Dhliwayo
Nature best teaches how to pray, and how to reverence all the gifts the Almighty has given us. She is like a vast outspread handkerchief, embroidered with God's eternal name, on which we may dry alike our tears of sorrow and of joy; she turns weeping into ecstasy, and fills our hearts with speechless, quiet reverence and resignation. ~ Robert Schumann
Tears Of Sorrow quotes by Robert Schumann
The "laughter through tears of sorrow" that Pushkin noted elsewhere in his work is precisely laughter. The images it produces are too deeply ambiguous to bear any social message. ~ Nikolai Gogol
Tears Of Sorrow quotes by Nikolai Gogol
During her childhood Tita didn't distinguish between tears of laughter and tears of sorrow. For her, laughing was a form of crying. ~ Laura Esquivel
Tears Of Sorrow quotes by Laura Esquivel
Chain Of Pearls
Mother, I shall weave a chain of pearls for thy neck
with my tears of sorrow.
The stars have wrought their anklets of light to deck thy feet,
but mine will hang upon thy breast.
Wealth and fame come from thee
and it is for thee to give or to withhold them.
But this my sorrow is absolutely mine own,
and when I bring it to thee as my offering
thou rewardest me with thy grace. ~ Rabindranath Tagore
Tears Of Sorrow quotes by Rabindranath Tagore
Her tears fell abundantly
but her grief was so truly artless, that no dignity could have made it more respectable in Emma's eyes
and she listened to her and tried to console her with all her heart and understanding
really for the time convinced that Harriet was the superior creature of the two
and that to resemble her would be more for her own welfare and happiness than all that genius or intelligence could do.
It was rather too late in the day to set about being simple-minded and ignorant; but she left her with every previous resolution confirmed of being humble and discreet, and repressing imagination all the rest of her life. ~ Jane Austen
Tears Of Sorrow quotes by Jane Austen
No sin is necessarily connected with sorrow of heart, for Jesus Christ our Lord once said, "My soul is exceedingly sorrowful, even to death." There was no sin in Him, and consequently none in His deep depression. ~ Charles Spurgeon
Tears Of Sorrow quotes by Charles Spurgeon
Sorrows, as storms, bring down the clouds close to the earth; sorrows bring heaven down close; and they are instruments of cleansing and purifying. ~ Henry Ward Beecher
Tears Of Sorrow quotes by Henry Ward Beecher
For most men, a stepford wife would bore them to tears after a couple of weeks ~ Na'ima B. Robert
Tears Of Sorrow quotes by Na'ima B. Robert
Another step brought him close enough to see the tiny lines that creased the corners of her eyes. Logan took a deep breath, and fought the urge to run his fingers along their path. He wanted to know what caused them, wanted to be part of the laughter and the tears that now reflected on her beautiful face. ~ D.A. Henneman
Tears Of Sorrow quotes by D.A. Henneman
Jessica, hearing the voices, felt the depth of the experience, realized what terrible inhibitions there must be against shedding tears. She focused on the words: "He gives moisture to the dead." It was a gift to the shadow world - tears. They would be sacred beyond a doubt. ~ Frank Herbert
Tears Of Sorrow quotes by Frank Herbert
I thought about how my great-grandparents had starved to death. I thought about their wasted bodies being fed to incinerators because people they didn't know hated them. I thought about how the children who lived in this house had been burned up and blown apart because a pilot who didn't care pushed a button. I thought about how my grandfather's family had been taken from him and how because of that my dad grew up feeling like he didn't have a dad. And how I had acute stress and nightmares and was sitting alone in a falling down house and crying hot stupid tears all over my shirt. All because of a seventy year old hurt that had somehow been passed down to me like some poisonous heirloom. ~ Ransom Riggs
Tears Of Sorrow quotes by Ransom Riggs
Some days he wishes that he could simply empty the chambers of the men, fill the halls instead with women: the short sharp shock of three thousand two hundred mothers. The ones who picked through the supermarket debris for pieces of their dead husbands. The ones who still laundered their gone son's bed sheets by hand. The ones who kept an extra teacup at the end of the table, in case of miracles. The elegant ones, the angry ones, the clever ones, the ones in hairnets, the ones exhausted by all the dying. They carried their sorrow
not with photos under their arms, or with public wailing, or by beating their chests, but with a weariness around the eyes. ~ Colum McCann
Tears Of Sorrow quotes by Colum McCann
Sometimes the hardest goodbyes are the ones never said, the ones that always just hang there in the back of the mind like a dark cloud. There's so much to say but no one to say it to because the person you want most to hear it is already gone. That's how he felt. Sorrow, regret, a wound so deep it didn't even bleed. Like a puncture wound, an ache that didn't heal but just hurt. He didn't know if he wanted it to heal. That'd be too much like a final goodbye. ~ Virginia Brown
Tears Of Sorrow quotes by Virginia Brown
That was Flint's treasure that we had come so far to seek, and that had cost already the lives of seventeen men from the Hispaniola. How many it had cost in the ammassing, what blood and sorrow, what good ships scuttled on the deep, what brave men walking the plank blindfold, what shot of cannon, what shame and lies and cruelty, perhaps no man alive could tell. ~ Robert Louis Stevenson
Tears Of Sorrow quotes by Robert Louis Stevenson
And when I look around the apartment where I now am, - when I see Charlotte's apparel lying before me, and Albert's writings, and all those articles of furniture which are so familiar to me, even to the very inkstand which I am using, - when I think what I am to this family - everything. My friends esteem me; I often contribute to their happiness, and my heart seems as if it could not beat without them; and yet - if I were to die, if I were to be summoned from the midst of this circle, would they feel - or how long would they feel - the void which my loss would make in their existence? How long! Yes, such is the frailty of man, that even there, where he has the greatest consciousness of his own being, where he makes the strongest and most forcible impression, even in the memory, in the heart of his beloved, there also he must perish, - vanish, - and that quickly.

I could tear open my bosom with vexation to think how little we are capable of influencing the feelings of each other. No one can communicate to me those sensations of love, joy, rapture, and delight which I do not naturally possess; and though my heart may glow with the most lively affection, I cannot make the happiness of one in whom the same warmth is not inherent.

Sometimes I don't understand how another can love her, is allowed to love her, since I love her so completely myself, so intensely, so fully, grasp nothing, know nothing, have nothing but her!

I possess so much, but my l ~ Johann Wolfgang Von Goethe
Tears Of Sorrow quotes by Johann Wolfgang Von Goethe
All I know of Inviernos is bloodshed and cruelty and rage and ... " Her voice trails off as tears fill her eyes.
"And me," Storm says softly. "You know me. ~ Rae Carson
Tears Of Sorrow quotes by Rae Carson
Nope," she managed. "No other questions."
Eleven centuries of captivity. Hung on his hated enemy's study wall. Eleven centuries of not touching. Not eating. Not loving. Had he had anyone to talk
to?
Her face must have betrayed her thoughts, for he startled her by saying softly, " 'Tis no longer of
consequence, lass, but thank you for the compassion. 'Tis nigh over. Seventeen more days, Jessica. That's all."
For some reason his words brought a sudden hot burn of tears to the backs of her eyes. Not only hadn't eleven centuries turned him into a monster, he was trying to soothe her, to make her feel better about his imprisonment.
"You weep for me, woman?"
She turned away. "It's been a long day. Hell, it's been a long week."
"Jessica." Her name was a soft command.
She disobeyed it, staring out the window at the rolling hills.
"Jessica, look at me."
Eyes bright with unshed tears, she whipped her head around and glared at him. "I weep for you, okay?" she snapped. "For eleven centuries stuck in there. Can I start driving again or do you need something else?"
He smiled faintly, raised his hand, and splayed his palm against the inside of the silvery glass. Without an ounce of conscious thought, her hand rose to
meet his, aligning on the cool silver,
palm to palm, finger to finger, thumb to thumb. And though she felt only a cold hardness beneath her palm, the gesture made something go all warm and soft in her heart.< ~ Karen Marie Moning
Tears Of Sorrow quotes by Karen Marie Moning
I'll always be there
I'd give anything and everything
And I will always care
Through weekness and strength
Happiness and sorrow
For better or for worse
I will love you
With every beat of my heart. ~ Shania Twain
Tears Of Sorrow quotes by Shania Twain
There is a certain animal vitality in most of us which carries us through any trouble but the absolutely overwhelming. Only a fool has no sorrow, only an idiot has no grief - but then only a fool and an idiot will let grief and sorrow ride him down into the grave. ~ Edward Abbey
Tears Of Sorrow quotes by Edward Abbey
Happily Ever After, if it exists, is the result of working through adversity, proving who you are as a team. It's not some magical ability to just always hit it off. The early fun in a relationship is always the best. But it's the bullshit that tears at the two of you that proves you are meant for each other. ~ Sean Develin
Tears Of Sorrow quotes by Sean Develin
If you've been up all night and cried till you have no more tears left in you - you will know that there comes in the end a sort of quietness. You feel as if nothing was ever going to happen again. ~ C.S. Lewis
Tears Of Sorrow quotes by C.S. Lewis
Am I kin to Sorrow,
That so oft
Falls the knocker of my door -
Neither loud nor soft,
But as long accustomed -
Under Sorrow's hand? ~ Edna St. Vincent Millay
Tears Of Sorrow quotes by Edna St. Vincent Millay
Woman, thou shouldst ever be clothed in rags and in mourning, appearing only as a penitent, drowned in tears, and expiating thus the sin of having caused the fall of the human race. Woman thou art the gate of the devil. It is thou who hast corrupted those whom Satan dare not attack face to face. ~ Tertullian
Tears Of Sorrow quotes by Tertullian
Antoinette felt a pain in her chest that seemed to be a lump made of all the tears she had cried over the years. Where do they come from, she wondered. Is there a sac made of a thin membrane that our grief enters and becomes water, then, once filled, it finally bursts, releasing an unstoppable torrent? ~ Toni Maguire
Tears Of Sorrow quotes by Toni Maguire
What do think about abortion?"
"I could feel the tension growing in the plane. I dropped my head, acknowledging that we had very different value systems for our lives. Then I thought of a way to respond to his question.
"You're Jewish, right?" I asked.
"Yes," he said defensively. "I told you I was!"
"Do you know how Hitler persuaded the German people to destroy more than six million of your Jewish ancestors?" The man looked at me expectantly, so I continued. "He convinced them that Jews were not human and then exterminated your people like rats."
I could see that I had his attention, so I went on. "Do you understand how Americans enslaved, tortured, and killed millions of Africans? We dehumanized them so our constitution didn't apply to them, and then we treated them worse than animals."
"How about the Native Americans?" I pressed. "Do you have any idea how we managed to hunt Indians like wild animals, drive them out of their own land, burn their villages, rape their women, and slaughter their children? Do you have any clue how everyday people turned into cruel murderers?"
My Jewish friend was silent, and his eyes were filling with tears as I made my point. "We made people believe that the Native Americans were wild savages, not real human beings, and then we brutalized them without any conviction of wrongdoing! Now do you understand how we have persuaded mothers to kill their own babies? We took the word fetus, which is the Latin word for ~ Kris Vallotton
Tears Of Sorrow quotes by Kris Vallotton
Great love, you believe, carries the seeds of great sorrow. ~ Anne Fortier
Tears Of Sorrow quotes by Anne Fortier
She blinked and kissed me abruptly, somewhere between mouth and cheek. It was an inaccuracy I didn't try to correct either way. I turned away before I could see if there were going to be any tears and started for the doors at the far end of the hall. I looked back once, as I was mounting the steps. Ortega was still standing there, arms wrapped around herself, watching me leave. In the stormlight, it was too far away to see her face clearly.

For a moment something ached in me, something so deep-rooted that I knew to tear it out would be to undo the essence of what held me together. The feeling rose and splashed like the rain behind my eyes, swelling as the drumming on the roof panels grew and the glass ran with water. ~ Richard K. Morgan
Tears Of Sorrow quotes by Richard K. Morgan
You selfish bitch!"
She had known for a long time that putting her needs above those of Adam's wife and children was indeed selfish. She had no real answer to the accusation thrown at her.
"I'm sorry" she said, with her head in her hands.
"you're sorry?" came her adversary's disbelieving reply.
"I am. I'm sorry he married you when he was in love with me. I'm sorry I couldn't have loved someone else. I'm sorry your marriage is a joke and I'm sorry that I'm alone. I'm sorry for a lot of things - for you, for your kids, for me and for him. I spend most of my time being sorry."
For a moment there was silence at the end of the line.
"all you had to do was stay away"
"if only I could have." tears escaped and raced down her cheeks.
"I hate you! ~ Anna McPartlin
Tears Of Sorrow quotes by Anna McPartlin
My mother is such a lousy cook that Thanksgiving at her house is a time of sorrow. ~ Rita Rudner
Tears Of Sorrow quotes by Rita Rudner
There was something terrible in her, something clawed and angry and afraid and sad… The truth of Ayla, the pain of her, was like a song you could feel vibrating on the air, even if you didn't know the words. It was a hum, low and throaty and full of sorrow. ~ Nina Varela
Tears Of Sorrow quotes by Nina Varela
It's not that we have to quit
this life one day, but it's how
many things we have to quit
all at once: music, laughter,
the physics of falling leaves,
automobiles, holding hands,
the scent of rain, the concept
of subway trains ... if only one
could leave this life slowly! ~ Roman Payne
Tears Of Sorrow quotes by Roman Payne
Ave atque vale ... Hail and farewell. He had never given much thought to the words before, he had never thought about why they were not just a farewell but also a greeting. Every meeting led to a parting, and so it would, as long as it was mortal. In every meeting there was some of the sorrow of parting, but in every parting there was some joy of the meeting as well.
He would not forget the joy. ~ Cassandra Clare
Tears Of Sorrow quotes by Cassandra Clare
They all believed in him because of the authenticity of his musical talent and his faith in it. ~ Amit Kalantri
Tears Of Sorrow quotes by Amit Kalantri
I remember the day I started school; my mother's tears as I skipped away; birthdays with candles on the cake, too soon too many abandoned for the mess they made. ~ Francis Norris, 1st Earl Of Berkshire
Tears Of Sorrow quotes by Francis Norris, 1st Earl Of Berkshire
Look, then, into thine heart, and write!
Yes, into Life's deep stream!
All forms of sorrow and delight,
All solemn Voices of the Night,
That can soothe thee, or affright, -
Be these henceforth thy theme.
(excerpt from "Voices of the Night") ~ Henry Wadsworth Longfellow
Tears Of Sorrow quotes by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow
A magpie can be happy or sad: sometimes so happy that he sits on a high, high gum tree and rolls the sunrise around in his throat like beads of pink sunlight; and sometimes so sad that you would expect the tears to drip off his beak.
This magpie was like that. ~ Colin Thiele
Tears Of Sorrow quotes by Colin Thiele
I have lost my friends," D'Artagnan said ruefully, burying his head in his hands. "I have nothing left but the bitterest of recollections ... "
Two large tears rolled down his cheeks.
"You are young," Athos answered. "Your bitter recollections have the time requisite to change into the happiest of memories. ~ Alexandre Dumas
Tears Of Sorrow quotes by Alexandre Dumas
If it were not for the depressing heat and the urgency of the work, one could sit down and laugh to tears at the absurdity of the thing, and under the circumstances it is a little wearing. But our motto is the old west coast proverb, Softly, softly, catchee monkey; in other words, don't flurry; patience gains the day. ~ Robert Baden-Powell
Tears Of Sorrow quotes by Robert Baden-Powell
My ma used to say that crying is good for you. Tears are the path that free your mind of sorrowful thoughts. ~ Sherrilyn Kenyon
Tears Of Sorrow quotes by Sherrilyn Kenyon
WHEN YOU ACQUIRE SUCH ITEMS, YOU BEGIN TO TRULY UNDERSTAND WHY THEY MUST BE TREASURED. THIS IS BECAUSE THE BLOOD, SWEAT, AND TEARS OF THE PERSON OR PEOPLE WHO CREATED THEM HAVE BECOME PART OF THEM. ~ Shoukei Matsumoto
Tears Of Sorrow quotes by Shoukei Matsumoto
Nothing you've been through has been wasted. I know at times you feel you've wasted time, moments, and years over what you can't regain again - a job, a marriage, a relationship, your health, the sacrifices, your time and service, and giving up something you love for God, that broke your heart. You sit back and wonder, "Will I ever be happy again? Was everything I've been through worth the pain, the tears, the sleepless nights, the embarrassment." The Lord is saying, "It's just preparation." Where you are now is no accident.

What has happened to you didn't take God by surprise. He already initiated a plan of escape before you were formed; mistakes, setbacks, disappointments, things outside your control.. The plan was already made! I don't know your story but only you and God know your story. He took you from bad company, He took you from suicide, He took you when you were at your lowest, He took you when nobody wanted you, He took you when your money was low, Why? Because He saw potential in you!

As God as my witness it gets lonely at times. Life can be fearful when you don't know what to expect. When you feel everything has been stripped away...When you feel there's no hope... When you wonder how much longer do I have to wait. Who wants to feel rejection or disappointments.. But it's in those moments when we experience the faithfulness of God!

I want to encourage whoever I'm speaking to, to hold on! Before Joseph became Prime Minist ~ Susan Samaroo
Tears Of Sorrow quotes by Susan Samaroo
The kids came with me to the church. It was the first time they'd gone to a funeral of someone they knew well.
Tears flowed down Angel's face as the ceremony came to an end. We slipped out together to the restroom before going on to the cemetery.
"Mom," she said, leaning against the stall. "Daddy keeps saying he's sorry. Why does he say that?"
"I don't know, honey." I had no doubt she was hearing her dad--their connection was so strong it surely would survive even death. "I don't know if he's sorry that he can't hold you, or that he's not there. But I'm glad you're hearing him."
"Yes. ~ Taya Kyle
Tears Of Sorrow quotes by Taya Kyle
life. She leaned back in her chair, blinked back a tear and looked at her oak dining room table. The evening had taken her several hours to prepare. She concentrated on the two candles in the center. She watched as the flame flickered and wondered if one of them would go out. She heard the grandfather clock chime and one of the candles finally did burn out. More tears were stinging her eyes as she longingly looked at the door. She was becoming disconsolate and wanted to know what had become of her husband. Even on the most chaotic of days he had never forgotten their anniversary. He had always found a way ~ S.C. King
Tears Of Sorrow quotes by S.C. King
The Bagman lived in a castle made from the tears of children, the bones of the brave and the sighs of the dead. ~ Rachael McKay
Tears Of Sorrow quotes by Rachael McKay
Death is my redemption," she whispered, her tears falling on his chest before rolling into the lapping ocean.

He stilled for a moment, and she felt something warm and wet slide down her right temple and past her ear. His tear.

His nose brushed against her forehead, before his lips pressed a kiss to it. "It seems we're at a bit of an impasse, then. Because your survival is mine. ~ Dianna Hardy
Tears Of Sorrow quotes by Dianna Hardy
If it is true that there is no greater sorrow than to remember a
happy time in a state of misery, it is just as true that calling up a
moment of anguish in a tranquil mood, seated quietly at one's desk, is
a source of profound satisfaction. ~ Primo Levi
Tears Of Sorrow quotes by Primo Levi
In the caves of my heart, where pain taps out its rhythms and sorrow sets its loss, i am without direction. ~ Nick Bantock
Tears Of Sorrow quotes by Nick Bantock
Indeed ... but no sand this time, so the lever goes up into fourth, and now there's no sound except wind. Screw
it all the way over, reach through the handlebars to raise the headlight beam, the needle leans down on a hundred, and wind-burned eyeballs strain to see down the centerline, trying to provide a margin for the reflexes.

But with the throttle screwed on there is only the barest margin, and no room at all for mistakes. It has to be done right ... and that's when the strange music starts, when you stretch your luck so far that fear becomes exhilaration and vibrates along your arms. You can barely see at a hundred; the tears blow back so fast that they vaporize before they get to your ears. The only sounds are wind and a dull roar floating back from the mufflers. You watch the white line and try to lean with it ... howling through a turn to the right, then to the left and down the long hill to Pacifica ... letting off now, watching for cops, but only until the next dark stretch and another few seconds on the edge ... The Edge ... There is no honest way to explain it because the only people who really know where it is are the ones who have gone over. The others -- the living -- are those who pushed their control as far as they felt they could handle it, and then pulled back, or slowed down, or did whatever they had to when it came time to choose between Now and Later.

But the edge is still Out there. Or maybe it's In. The association of motorcy ~ Hunter S. Thompson
Tears Of Sorrow quotes by Hunter S. Thompson
Heartbroken? Channelize your sorrow to become worthy of love. The world will be yours. ~ Tapan Ghosh
Tears Of Sorrow quotes by Tapan Ghosh
Footsteps behind her in the dark startled her out of her misery. She automtically reached for her knife, but a familiar voice broke the stillness.
"The stars say it is not safe for women to be out alone." He did not sit down beside her, but waited for her to get up.
Jesse straightened her back, wiped away tears, and stayed seated. "I needed to be alone....away from...I needed to pray."
"Then I will leave you to your prayers." Something was gone from the well-known voice. Gentle concern had always been there for her.Where was it,now, when she needed it so much?
He had already turned to go.She knew he would not go far.He would wait out of sight, watching to see that she was safe. But she did not want him out of sight. "No,I am finished.I..." her voice wavered. "There is no answer to my prayers."
"There is always an answer. But the answer is not always what we want to hear."
The truth of the simple reply cut deep. The answer to her plea for children was no. She couldn't understand it.She didn't want to accept it.But for years, now,the answer had been there. She knew it,but she couldn't bear it.Tears welled fresh in her eyes.He couldn't see them. The dark offered protection and enabled Rides the WInd to speak his fears.
"I have had prayers too. I have prayed that you would learn to be happy among the Lakota. But you tell me of the white man's count of years. You talk of all the time that you have been here.I have not wanted to hear the answer to my pray ~ Stephanie Grace Whitson
Tears Of Sorrow quotes by Stephanie Grace Whitson
They had chains which they fastened about the leg of the nearest hog, and the other end of the chain they hooked into one of the rings upon the wheel. So, as the wheel turned, a hog was suddenly jerked off his feet and borne aloft. At the same instant the ear was assailed by a most terrifying shriek; the visitors started in alarm, the women turned pale and shrank back. The shriek was followed by another, louder and yet more agonizing--for once started upon that journey, the hog never came back; at the top of the wheel he was shunted off upon a trolley and went sailing down the room. And meantime another was swung up, and then another, and another, until there was a double line of them, each dangling by a foot and kicking in frenzy--and squealing. The uproar was appalling, perilous to the ear-drums; one feared there was too much sound for the room to hold--that the walls must give way or the ceiling crack. There were high squeals and low squeals, grunts, and wails of agony; there would come a momentary lull, and then a fresh outburst, louder than ever, surging up to a deafening climax. It was too much for some of the visitors--the men would look at each other, laughing nervously, and the women would stand with hands clenched, and the blood rushing to their faces, and the tears starting in their eyes. Meantime, heedless of all these things, the men upon the floor were going about their work. Neither squeals of hogs nor tears of visitors made any difference to them; one by one t ~ Upton Sinclair
