Jewish people have given me all the breaks you can possibly have. But of course, it's wonderful when you feel that your own nationality has made it. It gives you hopes. ~ Jamie Farr
Samolis People quotes by Jamie Farr
I could tell...that my friends were doing their best to get across the message that I wasn't Frankenstein's monster but a perfectly normal human being. What they didn't understand was that my opponents didn't care who I was. Even if they had wanted to know the truth about me, it would have made no sense to them, since I refused to stay in my place and play by their rules and was too complicated to fit into their simple-minded, stereotypical pigeonholes. In any case, I couldn't be defeated without first being caricatured and dehumanized...[T]hey couldn't allow my life to be seen as the story of an ordinary person who, like most people, had worked out his problems step by unsure step. That would have been too honest-and too human. ~ Clarence Thomas
Samolis People quotes by Clarence Thomas
I do not know why people here have taken upon themselves the duty of making attempts at speaking to me. I work hard to keep the 'don't speak to me' look on my face and yet it seems they read it as 'please speak to me'….It really is very inconsiderate. Sometimes one just wants to be alone with one's thoughts and not have to deal with bad breath and body odour so early in the morning. ~ Kopano Matlwa
Samolis People quotes by Kopano Matlwa
For a moment people set down their glasses in county clubs and speak-easies and thought of their old best dreams. ~ F Scott Fitzgerald
Samolis People quotes by F Scott Fitzgerald
People in New Zealand go out of their way to not be impressed by things. ~ Melanie Lynskey
Samolis People quotes by Melanie Lynskey
I have this working theory that the main cause of traffic after a car accident is rarely the accident itself. I think people just slow down to get a closer look at the wreckage. ~ Kris Kidd
Samolis People quotes by Kris Kidd
Everyone has the same kind of fears; everyone has the same big problems in the world, which is, like, fear of death and 'I hope horrible things don't happen to my family,' but they do. And I think people laugh at them as this great release. ~ Anthony Jeselnik
Samolis People quotes by Anthony Jeselnik
We have something to hide. We have secrets, worries, thoughts, hopes, desires, passions which no one else gets to know. We are sensitive when people get near those domains with their questions. And now, against all rules of tact the Bible speaks of the truth that in the end we will appear before Christ with everything we are and were ... . And we all know that we could justify ourselves before any human court, but not before this one. Lord, who can justify themselves?1 Bonhoeffer's sermon for Repentance sunday, November 19, 1933 ~ Dietrich Bonhoeffer
Samolis People quotes by Dietrich Bonhoeffer
In 2017, I was invited to lead a mindfulness workshop and guide a live meditation on Mingus Mountain, Arizona, to over 100 men and women at a recovery retreat. On the eve of my workshop, I had the opportunity to join in a men's twelve-step meeting, which took place by the campfire in Prescott National Park Forest, with at least 40 men recovering from childhood grief and trauma. The meeting grounded us in what was a large retreat with many unfamiliar faces. I was the only mixed-race Brit, surrounded by mostly white middle-class American men (baby boomers and Generation X), yet our common bond of validating each other's wounds in recovery utterly transcended any differences of nationality, race and heritage. We shared our pain and hope in a non-shaming environment, listening and allowing every man to have his say without interruption. At the end of the meeting we stood up in a large circle and recited the serenity prayer:

"God grant me the serenity to accept the people I cannot change, the courage to change the one I can, and the wisdom to know that one is me".

After the meeting closed, I felt that I belonged and I was enthusiastic about the retreat, even though I was thousands of miles away from England. ~ Christopher Dines
Samolis People quotes by Christopher Dines
There's no card, business card, better than a compact disc for a composer. It doesn't half impress people and they get a long way on it ... these composers they will get more performances, more commissions, more recognition just by having that disc ~ Peter Maxwell Davies
Samolis People quotes by Peter Maxwell Davies
You can blame Al Gore and you can blame Ralph Nader and you can blame George Bush, but I blame Bill [Clinton]. I just do. I just think he squandered his presidency the night that woman delivered that pizza to him, and if he hadn't, we wouldn't be where we are and there would be a lot of people who are alive today who aren't. ~ Nora Ephron
Samolis People quotes by Nora Ephron
If the economy is still going forward, even at 40 miles an hour, 50 miles an hour, I think most people will stick with President Obama. I think people look at politics like they hire a plumber. I hire you to fix the bad pipe. If you fix it, I'll rehire you. If you don't fix it, I'm not going to rehire you. ~ Dick Gephardt
Samolis People quotes by Dick Gephardt
We don't have to be good, you know? No one's telling us that we have to do good things, but we do them because we know it makes other people feel good and it makes us feel good. ~ Michael Franti
Samolis People quotes by Michael Franti
I have a tendency to break rules and shake things up. I would say that with me people never know what is real and what is fiction. And I like that because reality is relative. ~ Nuno Roque
Samolis People quotes by Nuno Roque
I don't believe in God because certain reasons and arguments weigh more heavily in my mind than others, not because I have willfully decided to reject my creator, as many religious people seem to think. I could no more simply decide to believe in God than I could decide to like beetroot, just like that. ~ Julian Baggini
Samolis People quotes by Julian Baggini
We cannot expect people to have respect for law and order until we teach respect to those we have entrusted to enforce those laws. ~ Hunter S. Thompson
Samolis People quotes by Hunter S. Thompson
This trial is a farce. The real prosecutor is not the state of Finland, but the government of one great power. The real defendants are not the persons who were picked on political grounds and now stand accused here. The real defendant is the Finnish people. The purpose of this trial is not to mete out maximum sentences on those accused, but for a Finnish court to declare that Finland was the aggressor in the war and that the Soviet Union was a peace-loving, wronged victim of an unjustified aggression. [Final statement during Soviet dictated "War-responsibility" mock trial, 1945] ~ Risto Ryti
Samolis People quotes by Risto Ryti
One thing of great importance can affect a small number of people. Equally so, a thing of little importance can affect a multitude. Either way, a happening - big or small - can affect an entire string of people. Occurences can join us all together. ~ Cecelia Ahern
Samolis People quotes by Cecelia Ahern
RVM Thoughts for Today -
Many people age into a cage. They suddenly feel helpless waiting for death because they have no reason to live. ~ R.v.m.
Samolis People quotes by R.v.m.
I never found anything in the company of people, however I tried, and I did try; at least all my peers, all my comrades to a man, proved to be inferior to me in thinking; I don't remember a single exception. ~ Fyodor Dostoyevsky
Samolis People quotes by Fyodor Dostoyevsky
Please, people, do not f- with depression. It's merciless. All it wants is to get you in a room alone and kill you. Take care of yourself. ~ Harvey Fierstein
Samolis People quotes by Harvey Fierstein
In our relations with the people around us, we forgive them more readily for what they do, which they can help, than for what they are, which they cannot help. ~ Anna Brownell Jameson
Samolis People quotes by Anna Brownell Jameson
Homelessness in the context of austerity-led welfare reforms involves more than concepts of accommodation and pathways in or out of homelessness. Seen in this way, a homeless person in the contemporary political climate can be understood through reference to the concept of the "Homo Sacer" (the "accused man") in Roman law. Homo Sacer is a person who is banned from Roman society and may be killed by Roman citizens and slaves, but may not be sacrificed in a religious ritual having been deemed impure for such ends. Therefore, one may argue that homeless people in the context of austerity politics are comparable to the Homo Sacer – i.e. a group who are punished by political practices and silenced from the political arena. ~ Bruno De Oliveira
Samolis People quotes by Bruno De Oliveira
If God decided to never let anything bad happen to people, he would have to take away their free will. He would become the dictator and they would be his puppets. ~ Tarryn Fisher - Mud Vein
Samolis People quotes by Tarryn Fisher - Mud Vein
There are times when the welfare system may appear as an impediment to growth. Yet the drive for growth should always bear in mind the fact that people also need security ~ Romano Prodi
Samolis People quotes by Romano Prodi
Sometimes when people look at the work I've done with my family, they think it's autobiographical. But it really isn't. It's more about the idea of family. ~ Ari Marcopoulos
Samolis People quotes by Ari Marcopoulos
We agree that there is something that happens inside of a person, a people, a community when you think you will not love, that the people around you will not live. We talk about how you develop an attitude, on that dismisses hope, that discards dreams. ~ Patrisse Khan-Cullors
Samolis People quotes by Patrisse Khan-Cullors
This is when I learned that nice people sometimes felt they had to pretend to be mean and awful. ~ Matthew Quick
Samolis People quotes by Matthew Quick
Most of the time, if you treat people right, you don't have to be afraid of them. ~ Kathy Kelly
Samolis People quotes by Kathy Kelly
People grieve in their own ways. If you'd for once stop worrying about what everyone else thinks and let yourself get close to someone, you might be surprised to find folks understand. You're not the only person in this world who got handed a life different than the one they expected. ~ Tracy Guzeman
Samolis People quotes by Tracy Guzeman
It is just seeing-it is a very simple word-and to be a visionary is to be a seer. The problem is that most people can't see. ~ Stan Brakhage
Samolis People quotes by Stan Brakhage
We men are very simple people: if we like what we see, we're coming over there. If we don't want anything from you, we're not coming over there. Period. Please highlight this part right here so you can always remind yourself the next time a man steps to you: a man always wants something. Always. And when it comes to women, that plan is always to find out two things: (1) if you're willing to sleep with him, and (2) if you are, how much it will cost to get you to sleep with him. ~ Steve Harvey
Samolis People quotes by Steve Harvey
A people which is able to say everything becomes able to do everything. ~ Napoleon Bonaparte
Samolis People quotes by Napoleon Bonaparte
You are becoming a snake tomorrow, and as you start to devour people, with that mouth that has eaten others, you cry your love to me, and the same as today, I do wonder, will I be able to say my love to you?" - Gin Ichimaru awww ~ Tite Kubo
Samolis People quotes by Tite Kubo
The sad fact is that spending rises every year, no matter what people want or say they want. ~ Ben Stein
Samolis People quotes by Ben Stein
White people get nervous and speed things up. You don't have to be in a hurry because you ain't got nothing to gain and you ain't got nothin' to lose. And that's where the groove lies. ~ Billy Gibbons
Samolis People quotes by Billy Gibbons
Amazing, I thought, how busily we had turned ourselves into people who didn't know one another very well. ~ Robert Charles Wilson
Samolis People quotes by Robert Charles Wilson
People used to expect literary novels to deepen the experience of living; now they are happy with any sustained display of writerly cleverness. ~ Brian Reynolds Myers
Samolis People quotes by Brian Reynolds Myers
My fans are the only people who will be with me forever, all else comes and goes. ~ Hoodie Allen
Samolis People quotes by Hoodie Allen
I have to try different things to see what works best. Other people get impatient with that. ~ Lucinda Williams
Samolis People quotes by Lucinda Williams
I think people should take mythology much more seriously, because it tells us an awful lot about the history of the human race. We tend to dismiss it as 'fairy tales,' when it isn't. Fairy tales in themselves are about fundamentals of human nature. And they keep being reinvented in different ways. Fantasy acknowledges that, whereas a lot of modern literature is trying to distance itself from 'story,' never mind anything else. Which is why a lot of books are read by the critics, then people buy them, put them on their shelves, and don't really read them much, because they're not very interesting! ~ Jan Siegel
Samolis People quotes by Jan Siegel
The practice in Washington among the representa- tives of the great grafters is never to make a fight against a bill in both houses. The wisdom of this policy is plain. One house is thereby always permitted to appear to be the friend of the people, while the killing of a measure in one house is all that is necessary. Every Washington newspaper correspondent knows this. Any one may confirm the statement by watching the course of legislation for a few years. In the past, it has been the custom to introduce these fake bills in the house, pass them to appease public clamor, and impose upon the senate the duty of killing them. Perhaps the senators, now that they are elected by the people, will demand the right to pass a few fake bills themselves and let the representatives bear the odium of killing them. ~ Anonymous
Samolis People quotes by Anonymous
One morning in Saigon she'd asked what it was all about 'This whole war,' she said, 'why was everybody so mad at everybody else?'
I shook my head. 'They weren't mad exactly. Some people wanted one thing, other people wanted another thing.'
'What did you want?'
'Nothing,' I said. 'To stay alive.'
'That's all?'
'Yes. ~ Tim O'Brien
Samolis People quotes by Tim O'Brien
Sometimes I wonder what the world would be like if we all got along. If there were no terrorism, Islamophobia, Western hypocrisy, corrupt government in African countries (especially Liberia), sexism, nativism, people like Donald Trump, stereotypes, war, Capitalism, Communism, Marxism and xenophobia. ~ Henry Johnson Jr
Samolis People quotes by Henry Johnson Jr
Let me speak frankly: separate but equal is a fraud. It is the language that tried to push Rosa Parks to the back of the bus. It is the motif that determined that black and white people could not possibly drink from the same water fountain, eat at the same table or use the same toilets. ~ David Lammy
Samolis People quotes by David Lammy
So many people think being single is the end of something, but it's really a beginning - a good beginning. ~ Lauren London
Samolis People quotes by Lauren London
Purposefully exposing young people to increased risks of major brain problems - even death - for sport is surely even more ethically complicated than sending young people into this same neurological danger zone as soldiers. ~ Alice Dreger
