When we really love and are loved, we are no longer free to act as we please, because we can't shake off the knowledge that whatever we do affects those we love and who love us. This is what family means... Mutual love and responsibility, and the discipline of love. ~ Norma Johnston
Norma Johnston quotes by Norma Johnston
I do know this. It's the things we run from that hurt us the most." –Brad Sturdevant ~ Norma Johnston

Father God, we just ask You to open Your wide, wide arms and look down upon us, Lord, and lead us, and let us know what we should do to stop this, this terrible, terrible holocaust. ~ Norma McCorvey

Good night, Owe," she whispered.

When I was a child, my grandmother used to mix a paste for me of flour and water. Then I would go out into the yard and pick grass and make drawings out of pencil and grass pasted to the paper. ~ Norma Cole
Norma Johnston quotes by Norma Cole
Get the right perspective. When Goliath came against the Israelites, the soldiers all thought, "He is so big. We can never kill him." David looked at the same giant and thought, "He is so big. I can't miss." ~ Russell Johnston
Norma Johnston quotes by Russell Johnston
What are you doing tonight?" he asked, as soon as I was sitting down.

"Nothing," I said. I had what most people would call a boring social life, a classical holdout in a punk rock world. ~ E.K. Johnston
Norma Johnston quotes by E.K. Johnston
The inmates are ghosts whose dreams have been murdered. ~ Jill Johnston
Norma Johnston quotes by Jill Johnston
I think we've always been fascinated with the idea of the romantic outlaw. John Gotti could be in one instance a charismatic, kind and loving family man, and in another, deadly to his enemies. The opportunity to tell the true story of Gotti with John Travolta is a director's dream. ~ Joe Johnston
Norma Johnston quotes by Joe Johnston
Like the Maccabees, most people want the right to pray to God in their own way. This right is called freedom of religion. The spirit of Hanukkah, the Festival of Lights, is shared by all people who love freedom. ~ Norma Simon
Norma Johnston quotes by Norma Simon
It was a mutual thing. I made a deal with them: I asked them if they did not bring out the place card of Malachi, I would let them have two minutes with each one of my patients. ~ Norma McCorvey
Norma Johnston quotes by Norma McCorvey
True freedom gives a man not only the right to make a right choice, but also the freedom to make a wrong choice.

~ Norma Ramsey, 1954 ~ Dave Webb
Norma Johnston quotes by Dave Webb

Keeping children secure and comfortable at night contributes toward a lifetime of easy sleep for them, an objective worthy of the weariness you may feel now. ~ Norma Jane Bumgarner

People... people who NEED people, are the yuckiest people in the world. ~ G.S. Johnston
Norma Johnston quotes by G.S. Johnston
When you discover there's no peace without Him, you'll find God there waiting for you. ~ Norma Gail
Norma Johnston quotes by Norma Gail
Because I am an officer and a gentleman they have given me my notebooks, pen, ink and paper. So I write and wait. I am committed to no cause, I love no living person. The fact that I have no future except what you can count in hours doesn't seem to disturb me unduly. After all, the future whether here or there is equally unknown. So for the waiting days I have only the past to play about with. I can juggle with a series of possibly inaccurate memories, my own interpretation, for what is worth, of events. There is no place for speculation or hope, or even dreams. Strangely enough I think I like it like that. ~ Jennifer Johnston
Norma Johnston quotes by Jennifer Johnston
EVERY WEDNESDAY, I teach an introductory fiction workshop at Harvard University, and on the first day of class I pass out a bullet-pointed list of things the students should try hard to avoid. Don't start a story with an alarm clock going off. Don't end a story with the whole shebang having been a suicide note. Don't use flashy dialogue tags like intoned or queried or, God forbid, ejaculated. Twelve unbearably gifted students are sitting around the table, and they appreciate having such perimeters established. With each variable the list isolates, their imaginations soar higher. They smile and nod. The mood in the room is congenial, almost festive with learning. I feel like a very effective teacher; I can practically hear my course-evaluation scores hitting the roof. Then, when the students reach the last point on the list, the mood shifts. Some of them squint at the words as if their vision has gone blurry; others ask their neighbors for clarification. The neighbor will shake her head, looking pale and dejected, as if the last point confirms that she should have opted for that aseptic-surgery class where you operate on a fetal pig. The last point is: Don't Write What You Know.

The idea panics them for two reasons. First, like all writers, the students have been encouraged, explicitly or implicitly, for as long as they can remember, to write what they know, so the prospect of abandoning that approach now is disorienting. Second, they know an awful lot. In recent wo ~ Bret Anthony Johnston

Norma Johnston quotes by Norma Shearer
Look around at the countries of Europe, and you'll find that practically all of them have pasts that are just as tragic as Ireland's, yet the people seem able to find some creative way at moving into the future. ~ Jennifer Johnston
Norma Johnston quotes by Jennifer Johnston
It was only when I moved to New York that I realized tall is good. ~ Kristen Johnston
Norma Johnston quotes by Kristen Johnston
Yes, and when I had Aaron, he left me, and I didn't know how to raise a child. And I wasn't close to my parents, and because I was too proud to go to my parents for help, I mistreated that little baby. I didn't want a baby. ~ Lynn Johnston
Norma Johnston quotes by Lynn Johnston
I don't consider myself a goody-goody, but I like to be perceived as classy. ~ Kristen Johnston
Norma Johnston quotes by Kristen Johnston
Later that evening, Norma Jeane said good night to Bill and returned home. Standing before a mirror she picked up a lipstick and scribbled, 'This is the end of Norma Jeane.' Marilyn Monroe was born. ~ Michelle Morgan Spady
Norma Johnston quotes by Michelle Morgan Spady
As any opera fan knows, lawyers and judges do not fare well in most operas. Just consider the productions of 'Andrea Chenier,' 'Aida, Norma,' 'Billy Budd,' 'Peter Grimes,' 'The Crucible,' 'Lost in the Stars,' 'The Marriage of Figaro,' 'The Makropulos Case' and Wagner's 'Ring' cycle. Around 1810, the theme of justice emerged in opera. ~ Karen DeCrow
Norma Johnston quotes by Karen DeCrow

Norma Johnston quotes by Dan Johnston
