If magic violates the fundamental laws of nature, they clearly weren't all that fundamental. ~ Ruthanna Emrys
Miskatonic University quotes by Ruthanna Emrys
Everybody has an inferiority complex when they step into a room. But then when you have children and you get older, it doesn't really matter. When I was young I had so many inferiority complexes. I had an inferiority complex because I didn't go to university. I had an inferiority complex because I didn't train. ~ Helena Bonham Carter
Miskatonic University quotes by Helena Bonham Carter
I don't understand why Universities only offer undergraduate classes during the day when their professional staff should be smart enough to know that a large percentage of their students are non-traditional. ~ Heather Chapple
Miskatonic University quotes by Heather Chapple
I can tell you where I was when Kennedy was shot - which was in the common room at school. I heard about it on the old valve radio. At the time of Armstrong's landing, I was at university rehearsing a play. ~ Sam Neill
Miskatonic University quotes by Sam Neill
A degree helps to a degree, but your work is largely what you create it to be. ~ Ryan Lilly
Miskatonic University quotes by Ryan Lilly
Herbalife: the customers are fictitious, the business opportunity is a scam, the university degree is a fraud. ~ Bill Ackman
Miskatonic University quotes by Bill Ackman
Liberals are not about choice; they are about imposition. The way they live, the way they believe, must be imposed on people, otherwise they won't do it on their own. It's taken them 50, 60 years to get to this point of conditioning people, of taking hold of the education system, the university, academia system, the media. It's taken a long time to condition people not to stand up for themselves, not to exercise freedom, not to speak outside the acceptable norms. What is political correctness but speech censorship, is all it is. ~ Rush Limbaugh
Miskatonic University quotes by Rush Limbaugh
When they first built the University of California at Irvine they just put the buildings in. They did not put any sidewalks, they just planted grass. The next year, they came back and put the sidewalks where the trails were in the grass. Perl is just that kind of language. It is not designed from first principles. Perl is those sidewalks in the grass. ~ Larry Wall
Miskatonic University quotes by Larry Wall
The first duty of a university is to teach wisdom, not trade; character, not technicalities. ~ Winston Churchill
Miskatonic University quotes by Winston Churchill
As a young woman, I attended Witwatersrand University in Johannesburg, South Africa, which was then not segregated. But I witnessed the weight of apartheid everywhere around me. ~ Teresa Heinz
Miskatonic University quotes by Teresa Heinz
Further Education should be about the ability to learn, not the ability to pay - everyone who is able should have the opportunity, regardless of their family background. I don't want to see students struggling with huge debts or frightened off even going to university in the first place. ~ Charles Kennedy
Miskatonic University quotes by Charles Kennedy
Class consciousness is not one of our national diseases; we suffer, indeed, from its opposite
the delusion that class barriers are not real. That delusion reveals itself in many forms, some of them as beautiful as a glass eye. One is the Liberal doctrine that a prairie demagogue promoted to the United States Senate will instantly show all the sagacity of a Metternich ... another is the doctrine that a moron
run through a university and decorated with a Ph.D. will cease thereby to be a moron ... ~ H.L. Mencken
Miskatonic University quotes by H.L. Mencken
The old university attitude of 'publish or perish' has changed. Students and academics are realising that institutions such as Imperial College are also wealth-generators. It is very satisfying to be in a university where you have the freedom to innovate and yet know that there is a path to translate your work into industry. ~ Chris Toumazou
Miskatonic University quotes by Chris Toumazou
Making these choices [to attend school instead of skipping], as it turned out, wasn't about willpower. I always admired people who "willed" themselves to do something, because I have never felt I was one of them. If sheer will were enough by itself, it would have been enough a long time ago, back on University Avenue, I figured. It wasn't, not for me anyway. Instead, I needed something to motivate me. I needed a few things that I could think about in my moments of weakness that would cause me to throw off the blanket and walk through the front door. More than will, I needed something to inspire me.

One thing that helped was a picture I kept in mind, this image that I used over and over whenever I was faced with these daily choices. I pictured a runner running on a racetrack. The image was set in the summertime and the racetrack was a reddish orange, divided in white racing stripes to flag the runners' columns. Only, the runner in my mental image did not run alongside others; she ran solo, with no one watching her. And she did not run a free and clear track, she ran one that required her to jump numerous hurdles, which made her break into a heavy sweat under the sun. I used this image every time I thought of things that frustrated me: the heavy books, my crazy sleep schedule, the question of where I would sleep and what I would eat. To overcome these issues I pictured my runner bolting down the track, jumping hurdles toward the finish line.

Hunger, hurdle ~ Liz Murray
Miskatonic University quotes by Liz Murray
I stopped writing at the age of 18. I had written incessantly before that. I read, of course, because I was in university, but I wasn't going to write. I wasn't going to do any of those dangerous things. I was going to be a stolid, bourgeois lawyer. ~ James Lipton
Miskatonic University quotes by James Lipton
Every man, however brief or inglorious may have been his academical career, must remember with kindness and tenderness the old university comrades and days. The young man's life is just beginning: the boy's leading-strings are cut, and he has all the novel delights and dignities of freedom. He has no idea of cares yet, or of bad health, or of roguery, or poverty, or to-morrow's disappointment. ~ William Makepeace Thackeray
Miskatonic University quotes by William Makepeace Thackeray
There must be an alternative between Hollywood and New York, between those two places psychically as well as geographically. The University of Iowa tries to offer such a community, congenial to the young writer, with his uneasiness about writing as an honorable career, or with his excess of ego about calling himself a writer. ~ Paul Engle
Miskatonic University quotes by Paul Engle
In 1978, I entered Tohoku University, into the Department of Electrical Engineering, Faculty of Technology. ~ Koichi Tanaka
Miskatonic University quotes by Koichi Tanaka
I came to Broadway through Indiana University. ~ Colin Donnell
Miskatonic University quotes by Colin Donnell
I grew up in Florida and went to school there, and ended up going to University of Central Florida. ~ Daniel Tosh
Miskatonic University quotes by Daniel Tosh
I am not topper in my university but all toppers are working in my microsoft company. ~ Bill Gates
Miskatonic University quotes by Bill Gates
I try to be even-handed and fair-minded about my view of history. I don't romanticize one side and demonize the other, though I do think that if you're suffering a lot, especially in the Bob Marley sense, suffering becomes a kind of university out of which you'll learn some hard lessons. ~ Fred D'Aguiar
Miskatonic University quotes by Fred D'Aguiar
Researchers at Shanghai Jiao Tong University in China, Saga University in Japan, and the University of California, Davis, proposed creating an artificial inorganic leaf modeled on the real thing. They took a leaf of Anemone vitifolia, a plant native to China, and injected its veins with titanium dioxide-a well-known industrial photocatalyst. By taking on the precise branching shape and structure of the leaf's veins, the titanium dioxide produced much higher light-harvesting ability than if ti was used in a traditional configuration. The researchers found an astounding 800 percent increase in hydrogen production as well. The total performance was 300 percent more active than the world's best commercial photocatalysts. When they added platinum nanoparticles to the mix, it increased activity by a further 1,000 percent. ~ Jay Harman
Miskatonic University quotes by Jay Harman
The great city can teach something that no university by itself can altogether impart: a vivid sense of the largeness of human brotherhood, a vivid sense of man's increasing obligation to man; a vivid sense of our absolute dependence on one another. ~ Seth Low
Miskatonic University quotes by Seth Low
Born 4th January 1935. Left school at 16 with one 'O' level in geography ( so I know my way round the world), but continued my education at the University of Real Life, than which, you will agree, there is none better. ~ William Donaldson
Miskatonic University quotes by William Donaldson
Not long ago-incredible though it may seem-I heard a clerk of Oxford declare that he 'welcomed' the proximity of mass-production robot factories, and the roar of self-obstructive traffic, because it brought his university into 'contact with real life.' He may have meant that the way men were living and working in the twentieth century was increasing in barbarity at an alarming rate, and that the loud demonstration of this in the streets of Oxford might serve as a warning that it is not possible to preserve for long an oasis of sanity in a desert of unreason by mere fences, without actual offensive action (practical and intellectual). I fear he did not. In any case the expression 'real life' in this context seems to fall short of academic standards. The notion that motor-cars are more 'alive' than, say, centaurs or dragons is curious; that they are more 'real' than, say, horses is pathetically absurd. How real, how startlingly alive is a factory chimney compared with an elm tree: poor obsolete thing, insubstantial dream of an escapist! ~ J.R.R. Tolkien
Miskatonic University quotes by J.R.R. Tolkien
Princeton University recently did a study revealing what those of us paying attention already know all too well: The United States is, in scientifically proven fact, not a democracy. They concluded that the U.S. is controlled by economic elites. This is a prominent idea that is becoming popular. The structural reason that voting is redundant is that through the funding of political parties, lobbying, and cronyism, corporations are able to ensure that their interests are prioritized above the needs of the electorate and that ideas that contravene their agenda don't even make it into the sphere of public debate. Whoever you vote for, you'll be voting for a party that represents a big-business agenda, not the will of the people. ~ Russell Brand
Miskatonic University quotes by Russell Brand
If you Google me, you'll find plenty of "dumb blonde" references - even though I graduated with honors from Stanford and studied at Oxford University. I don't let it bother me. ~ Gretchen Carlson
Miskatonic University quotes by Gretchen Carlson
You didn't learn the Bible as a Fundamentalist. You learned fragments of Old Testament legalism mixed with Behaviorism & Nietzschean ethics ~ Jeri Massi
Miskatonic University quotes by Jeri Massi
Friedrich Wilhelm Nietzsche (October 15, 1844 – August 25, 1900) was a German philosopher. His writing included critiques of religion, morality, contemporary culture, philosophy, and science, using a distinctive style and displaying a fondness for aphorism. Nietzsche's influence remains substantial within and beyond philosophy, notably in existentialism and postmodernism. Nietzsche began his career as a philologist before turning to philosophy. At the age of 24 he became Professor of Classical Philology at the University of Basel, but resigned in 1879 due to health problems, which would plague him for most of his life. In 1889 he exhibited symptoms of a serious mental illness, living out his remaining years in the care of his mother and sister until his death in 1900. ~ Friedrich Nietzsche
Miskatonic University quotes by Friedrich Nietzsche
At university level, I had an economics lecturer who used to joke that I was the only student who handed in essays on British Airways notepaper. ~ Sebastian Coe
Miskatonic University quotes by Sebastian Coe
I made it to London aged six, an event I recorded in my diary with coloured markers to convey my sense of occasion. And in 1983, after graduating from college, I returned to spend two years at Cambridge University. ~ Jean Hanff Korelitz
Miskatonic University quotes by Jean Hanff Korelitz
I am deeply indebted to many people who have shared their love of and insights into these remarkable books with me over the years, none more than Jessica Matthews of George Mason University. ~ Diana Gabaldon
Miskatonic University quotes by Diana Gabaldon
I'm always a people watcher. They always had us do that at the University of Connecticut where I went for my training. I got my B.F.A. in Acting there. ~ Austin Stowell
Miskatonic University quotes by Austin Stowell
I didn't go to university. Didn't even finish A-levels. But I have sympathy for those who did. ~ Terry Pratchett
Miskatonic University quotes by Terry Pratchett
predecessor of Isaac Newton at Cambridge University, maintained that irrational numbers have no meaning independent of geometric lengths. ~ Morris Kline
Miskatonic University quotes by Morris Kline
What we become depends on what we read after all of the professors have finished with us. The greatest university of all is a collection of books. ~ Thomas Carlyle
Miskatonic University quotes by Thomas Carlyle
I went to a state school in Christchurch, New Zealand, and then straight on to the University of Canterbury. But I worked part-time all the way through high school: first with a paper round, then at a fast-food outlet, a video store and a hardware store. ~ Eleanor Catton
Miskatonic University quotes by Eleanor Catton
History was a patchwork of voids. The great university libraries and public archives had mostly rotted away or been used as fuel in the Dark Age. An entire generation's correspondence and memories had vanished into this mysterious entity the antiquarians called 'The Cloud'. ~ Robert Harris
Miskatonic University quotes by Robert Harris
I spent two years working on building sites, working on the railways as a guard and in a racing stable, exercising racehorses. I learnt to build relationships. The experience of not being stuck in some middle-class bubble taught me things that being at university hadn't. ~ Nick Davies
