I never liked to work, I mean manual work. ~ P.T. Barnum
Manual Work quotes by P.T. Barnum
Our minds must meditate on some object. According to what he thinks, a man can create an atmosphere of radiance, exuberance, buoyancy; and this brings joy. Or he can carry gloom with him. It is a matter of the habit of thought. We must build up our own life by our thoughts. There are many ways by which we can do this. Art, music, even manual work, all can bring ripening to the soul. ~ Swami Paramananda
Manual Work quotes by Swami Paramananda
Humans don't excel at performing repetitive manual work. ~ Bernard Golden
Manual Work quotes by Bernard Golden
Whatever you do, whatever you're working with, whether it's manual work or talking to people or buying or selling, every little thing encompasses the power and simplicity of presence. ~ Eckhart Tolle
Manual Work quotes by Eckhart Tolle
Find manual work more engaging intellectually ~ Matthew B. Crawford
Manual Work quotes by Matthew B. Crawford
Did you ever ask yourself if each one of us pursued a high educational degree, who would do the skilled manual work? Craftsmanship may not earn us the money we want but that does not mean we should scorn on anyone doing it. We are obliged to be respectful and grateful to anyone using their hands to clean our households, trim our hedges, carpentry our furniture, farm our food, crafts the objects we collect and gift, style our hairs, etc. Next time you encounter a crafts person acknowledge their manual competence. ~ Gloria D. Gonsalves
Manual Work quotes by Gloria D. Gonsalves
We are assailed by the temptation of the love of money. If you wish to acquire riches ? they are the bait of the fishers hook ? by greed, by trafficking, by violence, by ruse or by excessive manual work that deprives you of leisure for the service of God ? in a word by any other means ? if you have desired to pile up gold or silver, remember what the Gospel says, 'Fool! They will snatch your soul away during the night! Who will get your hoard' (cf. Lk. 12:20)? Again, 'He piles up money without knowing to whom it will go' (Ps. 39:6). ~ Pachomius The Great
Manual Work quotes by Pachomius The Great
As long as there is thirst in you, water can quench it; but you can live a kind of life in which you never feel thirsty; do not go in the sun, do no manual work, stay at home and relax and you will not feel the thirst. But then you will find no joy in drinking water. He who toils all day, enjoys the bliss of a good night's rest. This is ironical: if you want to enjoy the pleasure of a good night's sleep you have to work like a labourer all day. The trouble is that you want to spend your days like an emperor and your nights like a labourer. ~ Osho
Manual Work quotes by Osho
Because, to do manual work now, means in reality to shut yourself up for ten or twelve hours a day in an unhealthy workshop, and to remain chained to the same task for twenty or thirty years, and maybe for your whole life.
It means to be doomed to a paltry wage, to the uncertainty of the morrow, to want of work, often to destitution, more often than not to death in a hospital, after having worked forty years to feed, clothe, amuse, and instruct others than yourself and your children.
It means to bear the stamp of inferiority all your life; because, whatever the politicians tell us, the manual worker is always considered inferior to the brain worker, and the one who has toiled ten hours in a workshop has not the time, and still less the means, to give himself the high delights of science and art, nor even to prepare himself to appreciate them; he must be content with the crumbs from the table of privileged persons. ~ Pyotr Kropotkin
Manual Work quotes by Pyotr Kropotkin
This society in which knowledge workers dominate is in danger of a new "class conflict" between the large minority of knowledge workers and the majority of workers who will make their livings through traditional ways, either by manual work ... or by service work. The productivity of knowledge work - still abysmally low - will predictably become the economic challenge of the knowledge society. On it will depend the ability of the knowledge society to give decent incomes, and with them dignity and status, to non knowledge people. ~ Peter Drucker
Manual Work quotes by Peter Drucker
Modern life cannot be constructed on ... physically strenuous principles. A great deal of work is sedentary, and most manual work exercises only a few specialized muscles. ~ Bertrand Russell
Manual Work quotes by Bertrand Russell
When I stepped from hard manual work to writing, I just stepped from one kind of hard work to another. ~ Sean O'Casey
Manual Work quotes by Sean O'Casey
Human labor, the manual work that people engage in to build their world, both physical and spiritual, defines the realization of their conceptual realm. ~ Kilroy J. Oldster
Manual Work quotes by Kilroy J. Oldster
Kelly and I had to take our turns to work the concessions stand at the games. We would always try to work our designated duties together. If you've ever assembled a hundred hot dogs after a game, you know things can get pretty hectic behind that concessions counter. Kelly and I would slap those orders together as fast as we could, but keep in mind this was not either of our fortes. Did the guy in the green jacket order a hot dog or a burger? Did that lady say "diet" or did I imagine it? We often held our breath when the person left, wondering if he would discover in short order that what he asked for was not at all what he received from the inept concession stand staff. Big crowds of of hungry basketball fans made us nervous, and Kelly and I often made a mess filling their orders. One time I got impatient with the ketchup bottle, as I kept banging on the bottom of it and nothing was coming out. All of the sudden, half the bottled spewed out in this huge blob, and I looked like a bloody accident victim the rest of the night! ~ Lynne Spears
Manual Work quotes by Lynne Spears
Just because they're going to the gym, a lot of guys wear old T-shirts that look like they've been lying in the closet for 15 years. My workout clothes have to work. ~ Henrik Lundqvist
Manual Work quotes by Henrik Lundqvist
To seek Truth is automatically a calling for the innate dissident and the subversive; how
many are willing to give up safety and security for the perilous life of the spiritual revolutionary? How
many are willing to truly learn that their own cherished concepts are wrong? Striking provocative or
mysterious poses in the safety of Internet [social media] is far easier than taking the risks involved in
the hard work of genuine initiation. ~ Zeena Schreck
Manual Work quotes by Zeena Schreck
Work was made for man, and not man for work. Work is man's servant, both in its results to the worker and the world. Man is not work's servant, save as an almost universal perversion has made him such. ~ J.G. Holland
Manual Work quotes by J.G. Holland
The most important thing is not the work I can do for God. The most important thing is to make God the most important thing. ~ Phil Vischer
Manual Work quotes by Phil Vischer
And while it's all very nice to know that a woman has a mind, literature coming from the cold corpse of a whore is the last thing to be served in bed. Germaine had the right idea: she was ignorant and lusty, she put her heart and soul into her work. She was a whore all the way through - and that was her virtue! ~ Henry Miller
Manual Work quotes by Henry Miller
Some people burn out, and some people like Clint Eastwood, he was a wild, international movie star in his 30s, and he's doing the best work of his life now. Go figure. ~ Ethan Hawke
Manual Work quotes by Ethan Hawke
A perfect poem you can't pin down and say, 'This is exactly what it meant to me.' It's not a self-help manual. ~ Alice McDermott
Manual Work quotes by Alice McDermott
How, then, does the written word work? What part of a reader absorbs it - or should that be a double question: what part of a reader absorbs what part of a text?
I think that underneath, or alongside, a reader's conscious response to a text, whatever is needy in him is taking in whatever the text offers to assuage that need. ~ Diana Athill
Manual Work quotes by Diana Athill
I think the way the media is going to work in the future is less something that the population consumes and more something that the population creates. ~ Joseph Gordon-Levitt
Manual Work quotes by Joseph Gordon-Levitt
It is a common belief that we breathe with our lungs alone, but in point of fact, the work of breathing is done by the whole body. The lungs play a passive role in the respiratory process. Their expansion is produced by an enlargement, mostly downward, of the thoracic cavity and they collapse when that cavity is reduced. Proper breathing involves the muscles of the head, neck, thorax, and abdomen. It can be shown that chronic tension in any part of the body's musculature interferes with the natural respiratory movements.
Breathing is a rhythmic activity. Normally a person at rest makes approximately 16 to 17 respiratory incursions a minute. The rate is higher in infants and in states of excitation. It is lower in sleep and in depressed persons. The depth of the respiratory wave is another factor which varies with emotional states. Breathing becomes shallow when we are frightened or anxious. It deepens with relaxation, pleasure and sleep. But above all, it is the quality of the respiratory movements that determines whether breathing is pleasurable or not. With each breath a wave can be seen to ascend and descend through the body. The inspiratory wave begins deep in the abdomen with a backward movement of the pelvis. This allows the belly to expand outward. The wave then moves upward as the rest of the body expands. The head moves very slightly forward to suck in the air while the nostrils dilate or the mouth opens. The expiratory wave begins in the upper part of the body ~ Alexander Lowen
Manual Work quotes by Alexander Lowen
I like the idea of infiltrating an area that is not really exposed to me or my work. ~ Alexander McQueen
Manual Work quotes by Alexander McQueen
I am announcing my resignation from Congress so my colleagues can get back to work, my neighbors can choose a new representative and most importantly that my wife and I can continue to heal from the damage I have caused. ~ Anthony Weiner
Manual Work quotes by Anthony Weiner
If you take 100 breast-cancer samples, 100 types of cancer have 100 different hallmarks of mutated genes. You could be nihilistic and say, 'Oh, God, we'll never be able to tackle this!' But there are deep, systematic, organizational principles at work in all that diversity. ~ Siddhartha Mukherjee
Manual Work quotes by Siddhartha Mukherjee
There's one thing you may be sure of, Pip," said Joe, after some rumination, "namely, that lies is lies. Howsever they come, they didn't ought to come, and they come from the father of lies, and work round to the same. Don't you tell no more of 'em, Pip. That ain't the way to get out of being common, old chap. And as to being common, I don't make it out at all clear. You are oncommon in some things. You're oncommon small. Likewise you're a oncommon scholar."

"No, I am ignorant and backward, Joe."

"Why, see what a letter you wrote last night! Wrote in print even! I've seen letters––Ah! and from gentlefolks!––that I'll swear weren't wrote in print," said Joe.

"I have learnt next to nothing, Joe. You think much of me. It's only that."

"Well, Pip," said Joe, "be it so or be it son't, you must be a common scholar afore you can be a oncommon one, I should hope! ~ Charles Dickens
Manual Work quotes by Charles Dickens
It's all about doing work, being creative and staying true to who you are and having fun. That's what us actors are all about. ~ Ryan Merriman
Manual Work quotes by Ryan Merriman
That place of true healing is a fierce place. It's a giant place. It's a place of monstrous beauty and endless dark and glimmering light. And you have to work really, really, really hard to get there, but you can do it. ~ Cheryl Strayed
Manual Work quotes by Cheryl Strayed
What I love most in life happens to be the very thing that I do day-to-day, as my work. What would be my hobby, you know, happens to be my actual job. So I'm very lucky. Even if I didn't want to do as much work as I do, I'd still feel compelled to, because I so longed to be a full-time artist, and since I've been given that opportunity, I'd never want to let down the gift. ~ Ryan Adams
Manual Work quotes by Ryan Adams
Is a way for anger to come out as an energy you let loose and away. The trick is to give it a form, and not a human target. The trick is to transform rage. When I watch Andy work the heavy bag, or work his body to drop doing mixed martial arts, I see that anger can go somewhere - out and away from a body - like an energy let loose and given form. Like my junk comes out in art. ~ Lidia Yuknavitch
Manual Work quotes by Lidia Yuknavitch
I have the responsibility to work hard and get ready so we can take this team where we need to go. ~ Philip Rivers
Manual Work quotes by Philip Rivers
Failure provides you with a great opportunity to decide how much you really want something. Will you give up? Or will you dig deeper, commit more, work harder, learn, and get better? If you know that this is what you truly want, you will be willing to pay the price that success requires. You will be willing to fail again and again in order to succeed. ~ Jon Gordon
Manual Work quotes by Jon Gordon
It is essential to resist the depiction of history as the work of heroic individuals ~ Angela Davis
Manual Work quotes by Angela Davis
Despite their claims to a purely scientific and reasoned approach, the relationship of Modernist architects to their work remained at base a romantic one; they looked to architecture to support a way of life that appealed to them. Their domestic buildings were conceived as stage sets for actors in an idealised drama about contemporary existence. ~ Alain De Botton
Manual Work quotes by Alain De Botton
My work is the embodiment of dreams in one form or another. ~ William Morris
Manual Work quotes by William Morris
To survive, you've got to keep wheedling your way. You can't just sit there and fight against odds when it's not going to work. You have to turn a corner, dig a hole, go through a tunnel - and find a way to keep moving. ~ Twyla Tharp
Manual Work quotes by Twyla Tharp
The secret of the missionary is ... I am His, and He is carrying out His work through me. ~ Oswald Chambers
Manual Work quotes by Oswald Chambers
If your washing machine stops working and you're addicted to appliances that work, you'll get upset and you will suffer. If you prefer that your appliances work well, then when your washing machine breaks down you won't compound the problem by superimposing your uncomfortable emotions on the situation. ~ Ken Keyes Jr.
Manual Work quotes by Ken Keyes Jr.
I have to go. Boss has
this weird idea that I should actually work while he's paying
me. ~ Laurie Halse Anderson
Manual Work quotes by Laurie Halse Anderson
I wanted to find my limitations so I decided to do Shylock. And if I fail? I've never been afraid of that. I have other fears - doing bad work knowingly is the worst fear. ~ Dustin Hoffman
Manual Work quotes by Dustin Hoffman
When it comes to the work, I'm excited to see what people think. When it comes to the private life, that's when I don't pay attention. ~ Lily Collins
Manual Work quotes by Lily Collins
Well, I think that a lot of times when you're working on a film, there aren't really opportunities to get to know all the people you have to work with. ~ Alexis Bledel
Manual Work quotes by Alexis Bledel
On the 'Star,' you were forced to learn to write a simple declarative sentence. This is useful to anyone. Newspaper work will not harm a young writer and could help him if he gets out of it in time. ~ Ernest Hemingway,
Manual Work quotes by Ernest Hemingway,
This is about the daily ins and outs of a marriage. I don't want to give away the ending, but they are trying either to make the marriage work or make the separation work. Our job is to make that interesting. ~ Rob Reiner
