Hooters McHoulihan, let's get the fuck out of here. This G-string is so far up my ass, it's making my brain hurt, Jane grumbled ~ Robyn Peterman
Jane To Astrid quotes by Robyn Peterman
I'm interested in people that don't always do the right thing, its much more akin to what I know about life. ~ Thomas Jane
Jane To Astrid quotes by Thomas Jane
You must allow me to tell you how ardently I admire and love you.
-Mr. Darcy ~ Jane Austen
Jane To Astrid quotes by Jane Austen
Jack laughed, a quick, surprised chuckle. God, all I wanted these past months was the chance for you to get on my nerves. ~ Jane Seville
Jane To Astrid quotes by Jane Seville
The only duty of the dreamer is to tell the truth about the dream. ~ Jane Yolen
Jane To Astrid quotes by Jane Yolen
That got me to laughing too. His laughter, like his yelling, got into you until you was right soaked with it. So you couldn't help yourself. But it felt good. Light. I tell you, I hadn't felt like that in a long while. ~ J.D. Jordan
Jane To Astrid quotes by J.D. Jordan
Northerners, even abolitionists, knew more about how and why to chop down the slavery tree than they ever knew what to do with its sour fruit. ~ Jane Smiley
Jane To Astrid quotes by Jane Smiley
In a letter from Bath to her sister, Cassandra, one senses her frustration at her sheltered existence, Tuesday, 12 May 1801. Another stupid party ... with six people to look on, and talk nonsense to each other. ~ Jane Austen
Jane To Astrid quotes by Jane Austen

'Yes, OK, but so what if I was!' Interrupted Jane. 'What if I was! That's my point. What if I was a bit overweight and not especially pretty? Why is that so terrible? So disgusting? Why is that the end of the world?'
Madeline found herself without words. To be fat and ugly actually would be the end of the world for her.
'It's because A woman's entire self-worth rests on her looks,' said Jane. 'That's why. it's because we live in a beauty-obsessed society where the most important thing a women can do is make herself attractive to men.
. ~ Liane Moriarty
Jane To Astrid quotes by Liane Moriarty
What if I start training my consciousness to know that it is a time and space traveller of unlimited proportions? ~ Ricci-Jane Adams
Jane To Astrid quotes by Ricci-Jane Adams
Elinor was to be the comforter of others in her own distresses, no less than in theirs; and all the comfort that could be given by assurances of her own composure of mind, and a very earnest vindication of Edward from every charge but of imprudence, was readily offered. ~ Jane Austen
Jane To Astrid quotes by Jane Austen
If you are ever angry at him, threaten to do something to one of his books, as calling him Fred does nothing. ~ Sarah Holman
Jane To Astrid quotes by Sarah Holman
If you are speaking of music ... it is of all subjects my delight. There are few people in England I suppose, who have more true enjoyment of music than myself, or a better natural taste. If I had ever learnt, I should have been a great proficient. And so would Anne, if her health would have allowed her to apply. I am confident that she would have performed delightfully. - Lady Catherine de Bourgh in Pride and Prejudice ~ Jane Austen
Jane To Astrid quotes by Jane Austen
Really!" said the fat lady to Jane and Katharine and Martha, who were wedged tightly against her. "Stop shoving." "I'm sorry, but we haven't time for you now," said Jane to the fat lady. And she wished her twice as far as where she belonged. The lady was quite annoyed to find herself suddenly at home in her own kitchen, and later sued the newspaper for witchcraft. But she was never able to prove her case, and anyway that does not come into this story. Back in her office, the children's mother sat staring palely at the place where the lady had been. ~ Edward Eager
Jane To Astrid quotes by Edward Eager
D stared out the window, shoving down the feeling that it might be real nice to sit here and tell Jack Francisco everything about himself, confess things he'd never told nobody, just to feel like somebody cared, and to keep those big blue eyes fixed on him for as long as he could. ~ Jane Seville
Jane To Astrid quotes by Jane Seville
If one scheme of happiness fails, human nature turns to another; if the first calculation is wrong, we make a second better. ~ Jane Austen
Jane To Astrid quotes by Jane Austen
Oh, don't get me started! I love fantasy, I read it for pleasure, even after all these years. Pat McKillip, Ursula Le Guin and John Crowley are probably my favorite writers in the field, in addition to all the writers in the Endicott Studio group - but there are many others I also admire. In children's fantasy, I'm particularly keen on Philip Pullman, Donna Jo Napoli, David Almond and Jane Yolen - though my favorite novels recently were Midori Snyder's Hannah's Garden, Holly Black's Tithe, and Neil Gaiman's Coraline.

I read a lot of mainstream fiction as well - I particularly love Alice Hoffman, A.S. Byatt, Sara Maitland, Sarah Waters, Sebastian Faulks, and Elizabeth Knox. There's also a great deal of magical fiction by Native American authors being published these days - Louise Erdrich's Antelope Wife, Alfredo Vea Jr.'s Maravilla, Linda Hogan's Power, and Susan Power's Grass Dancer are a few recent favorites.

I'm a big fan of Jane Austen, Charlotte Bronte, Charles Dickens, and Anthony Trollope - I re-read Jane Austen's novels in particular every year.Other fantasists say they read Tolkien every year, but for me it's Austen. I adore biographies, particularly biographies of artists and writers (and particularly those written by Michael Holroyd). And I love books that explore the philosophical side of art, such as Lewis Hyde's The Gift, Carolyn Heilbrun's Writing a Woman's Life, or David Abram's Spell of the Sensuous.

(from a 2002 interview) ~ Terri Windling
Jane To Astrid quotes by Terri Windling
To exemplify, -a beautiful glossy nut, which, blessed with original strength, has outlived all the storms of autumn. Not a puncture, not a weak spot any where. -This nut ... while so many of its brethren have fallen and been trodden under foot, is still in possession of all the happiness that a hazel-nut can be supposed capable of. ~ Jane Austen
Jane To Astrid quotes by Jane Austen
For what do we live, but to make sport by subjecting our neighbors to endless discretionary review for minor additions? ~ Jane Austen
Jane To Astrid quotes by Jane Austen
The beautiful unruliness of literature is what makes it so much fun to wander through: you read Jane Austen and you say, oh, that is IT. And then you turn around and read Sterne, and you say, Man, that is IT. And then you wander across a century or so, and you run into Kafka, or Calvino, or Cortazar, and you say, well that is IT. And then you stroll through what Updike called the grottos of Ulysses, and after that you consort with Baldwin or Welty or Spencer, or Morrison, or Bellow or Fitzgerald and then back to W. Shakespeare, Esq; the champ, and all the time you feel the excitement of being in the presence of IT. And when you yourself spend the good time writing, you are not different in kind than any of these people, you are part of that miracle of human invention. So get to work. Get on with IT, no matter how difficult IT is. Every single gesture, every single stumble, every single uninspired-feeling hour, is worth IT. Richard Bausch ~ Kathy Fish
Jane To Astrid quotes by Kathy Fish
One central feature to the practice of rituals and ceremonies is the concept of purification. ~ Jane Peters
Jane To Astrid quotes by Jane Peters
I certainly must,' said she. 'This sensation of listlessness, weariness, stupidity, this disinclination to sit down and employ myself, this feeling of everything's being dull and insipid about the house! I must be in love; I should be the oddest creature in the world if I were not. ~ Jane Austen
Jane To Astrid quotes by Jane Austen
As for Elizabeth Bennet, our chief reason for accepting her point of view as a reflection of her author's is the impression that she bears of sympathy between them
an impression of which almost every reader would be sensible, even if it had not the explicit confirmation of Jane Austen's letters. Yet, as she is presented to us in Pride and Prejudice, she is but a partial and sometimes perverse observer. ~ Mary Lascelles
Jane To Astrid quotes by Mary Lascelles
If a parent wants to talk about slavery or wants to talk about countries where bombs go off, they need to have a way - a setting - to have that conversation. And there are wonderful books out there for those kinds of conversations. ~ Jane Yolen
Jane To Astrid quotes by Jane Yolen
The politeness which she had been brought up to practice as a duty made it impossible for her to escape; while the want of that higher species of self-command, that just consideration of others, that knowledge of her own heart, that principle of right which had not formed any essential part of her education, made her miserable under it. ~ Jane Austen
Jane To Astrid quotes by Jane Austen
You are a name, not a number. Never forget that name, whatever they tell you here. You will always be Chaya - life - to me. ~ Jane Yolen
Jane To Astrid quotes by Jane Yolen
I'm a natural novelist. I'm interested in the person and the group, and how they mesh. And one of the ways I don't want them to mesh is for the person to be subsumed into the group. ~ Jane Smiley
Jane To Astrid quotes by Jane Smiley
I have none of the usual inducements of women to marry. Were I to fall in love, indeed, it would be a different thing! but I never have been in love; it is not my way, or my nature; and I do not think I ever shall. And, without love, I am sure I should be a fool to change such a situation as mine. Fortune I do not want; employment I do not want; consequence I do not want. ~ Jane Austen
Jane To Astrid quotes by Jane Austen
Astrid found the hem of his T-shirt and pulled it up over his head. She unbuckled his belt and shoved his jeans to the deck. She pushed him, gently but insistently, onto the bed. Then she undressed herself and stood in the faint light, looking down at him as he gazed up at her.
"You're giving me a reason to live," he said, half joking.
"I'm just recapturing the mood," she said, trying to make it sound light and sexy.
"You captured me a long time ago."
She climbed atop him. "We walk out of this together, Sam. Whatever it takes. You and me."
"You and me," he said.
She would not yet let him have her. "Whatever it takes," she insisted. "Say it."
"You and me," he said at last. "Whatever it takes."
"Swear it. ~ Michael Grant
Jane To Astrid quotes by Michael Grant
Someone once joked, Hell is other people. But the truth is that connection to other people can be sacred. Why else did God give so many people life? (Adam was't enough.) Or more simply, why else would He design hands that so perfectly clasp? ~ Lorna Jane Cook
Jane To Astrid quotes by Lorna Jane Cook
Why did Acheron tell you not to talk to Zarek? (Astrid)
I don't know. That redheaded bitch-goddess got all angry when he told me to come protect you. It went like this. (She flashed to Acheron's form.) Protect Zarek and Astrid. Now. (She flashed to Artemis's form.) No! You can't let her go, she'll tell Zarek everything. (Simi, looking like Artemis, put her hand against her cheek and whispered loudly to Astrid.) This the part where the redheaded goddess went on and on about what happened in Zarek's village and akri got all upset at her. Don't know why he won't let me kill her and get it over with, but finally he say…(She flashed to Acheron's form.) Simi, don't speak to Zarek but make sure Thanatos doesn't kill either one of them. (She flashed into her own form.) So I said okay and here I am not talking to Zarek. (Simi)
Wow. She's a camcorder, too. How convenient. (Zarek) ~ Sherrilyn Kenyon
Jane To Astrid quotes by Sherrilyn Kenyon
It's one thing to tolerate a boring marriage; a boring affair does not make sense. ~ Jane Wagner
Jane To Astrid quotes by Jane Wagner
You ought certainly to forgive them as a Christian, but never to admit them in your sight, or allow their names to be mentioned in your hearing. ~ Jane Austen
Jane To Astrid quotes by Jane Austen
Ebenezer Howard's vision of the Garden City would seem almost feudal to us. He seems to have thought that members of the industrial working classes would stay neatly in their class, and even at the same job within their class; that agricultural workers would stay in agriculture; that businessmen (the enemy) would hardly exist as a significant force in his Utopia; and that planners could go about their good and lofty work, unhampered by rude nay-saying from the untrained. It was the very fluidity of the new nineteenth-century industrial and metropolitan society, with its profound shiftings of power, people and money, that agitated Howard so deeply ~ Jane Jacobs
Jane To Astrid quotes by Jane Jacobs
It's really weird because my house is very ornate, but my writing lair is very, very blank. It's white, the furniture is white. It gives me nothing to look at, so I just have to concentrate! ~ Jane Goldman
Jane To Astrid quotes by Jane Goldman
If I wrote at all, I must throw myself headlong into the great political maelstrom, and would of course be swallowed up like a fishing-boat in the great Norway horror which decorated our school geographies; for no woman had ever done such a thing, and I could never again hold up my head under the burden of shame and disgrace which would be heaped upon me. But what matter? I had no children to dishonor; all save one who had ever loved me were dead, and she no longer needed me, and if the Lord wanted some one to throw into that gulf, no one could be better spared than I. ~ Jane Swisshelm
Jane To Astrid quotes by Jane Swisshelm
To become an executive chef, you have to start at the bottom, learn the ropes, know the kitchen, and know the basics. Be okay with having someone constantly telling you what to do. Be a team player. Oh, ~ Jane Bedell
Jane To Astrid quotes by Jane Bedell
Look closely Jane. This is Majesty Park, the city of wonder. Here you are free to dream dreams and follow them wherever they may take you. ~ Elle Alexander
Jane To Astrid quotes by Elle Alexander
They went to the sands, to watch the flowing of the tide, which a fine south-easterly breeze was bringing in all the grandeur which so flat a shore admitted. They praised the morning; gloried in the sea; sympathized in the delight of the fresh-feeling breeze- and were silent ... ~ Jane Austen
Jane To Astrid quotes by Jane Austen
Jane Austen was an extraordinary woman; to actually be able to survive as a novelist in those days - unmarried - was just unheard of. ~ Julie Walters
