It's a rabbit. ~ Stephanie Perkins
Isla Martin quotes by Stephanie Perkins
Thus my learning is not my own; it belongs to the unlearned and is the debt I owe themMy wisdom belongs to the foolish, my power to the oppressed. Thus my wealth belongs to the poor, my righteousness to the sinners. ~ Martin Luther
Isla Martin quotes by Martin Luther
You cannot combine being a movie star with not being a movie star. ~ Martin Amis
Isla Martin quotes by Martin Amis
The key is to move from being a victim of thoughts (the commenting, chattering mind) to being their witness (the heart's stillness) . . . What we have observed of fear can be observed of practically any struggle with afflictive thoughts and feelings. We must move from being a victim of these thoughts to being their witness. Typically we spend many, many years being their victim. We are imprisoned by the chattering mind. Gradually we learn to distinguish the simple thought or emotion from the chatter and we discover an inner stability that grows into the silence of God. ~ Martin Laird
Isla Martin quotes by Martin Laird
A person is neither a thing nor a process but an opening through which the Absolute can manifest. ~ Martin Heidegger
Isla Martin quotes by Martin Heidegger
For a century or more, the "civilized" world regarded as a manifestation of its wealth metal dug from deep in the ground, refined at great labor, and transported great distances to be buried again in elaborate vaults deep under the ground, ~ Felix Martin
Isla Martin quotes by Felix Martin

Isla Martin quotes by George R R Martin
The vast majority of writers out there, they finish their books, and no one cares whether their book is late or ever comes out at all. And then it comes out, and two reviews are published, and it sells 12 copies. ~ George R R Martin
Isla Martin quotes by George R R Martin
The internet has extended the possibility of making art to more people, and particularly of enabling it to be seen by others. I am sure the internet is having a profound impact on art, particularly those who have grown up with it, but making good art will remain as difficult (and as easy) as it ever was. Having a lasting impact may become more not less difficult. ~ Michael Craig-Martin
Isla Martin quotes by Michael Craig-Martin
We're setting up mechanisms where we can kill human beings with drones and missiles where you're sitting at a console and pressing the button. We never have to hear their whimpering, or hear them begging for their mother, or dying in horrible realities around us. I don't know if that's necessarily such a good thing. ~ George R R Martin
Isla Martin quotes by George R R Martin
His long wait is almost done. I am sending Balon Swann to Sunspear, to deliver him the head of Gregor Clegane." Ser Balon would have another task as well, but that part was best left unsaid.
"Ah." Ser Harys Swyft fumbled at his funny little beard with thumb and forefinger. "He is dead then? Ser Gregor?"
"I would think so, my lord," Aurane Waters said dryly. "I am told that removing the head from the body is often mortal. ~ George R R Martin
Isla Martin quotes by George R R Martin
In no sense do I advocate evading or defying the law . That would lead to anarchy. ~ Martin Luther King, Jr.
Isla Martin quotes by Martin Luther King, Jr.
My 12-year-old daughter said to me, "Enough with the subtitles, Daddy, for crying out loud." Because they always seem to cloud the issue rather than clarify it. ~ Martin Amis
Isla Martin quotes by Martin Amis

Anyway, seeking work is a tad difficult given the poor design of the streets with their prohibitive curbs and driveways that don't quite line up. ~ Steve Martin
Isla Martin quotes by Steve Martin
Here we must first of all resist all wrong, where truth or righteousness suffers violence or need, and dare make no distinction of persons, as some do, who fight most actively and busily against the wrong which is done to the rich, the powerful, and their own friends; but when it is done to the poor, or the despised or their own enemy, they are quiet and patient. ~ Martin Luther
Isla Martin quotes by Martin Luther
I honestly believe there are good things happening in this world, and I'll spend most of my time trying to find them and bring them to light. ~ Jesse L. Martin
Isla Martin quotes by Jesse L. Martin
When you enjoy what you do, work becomes play. ~ Martin Yan
Isla Martin quotes by Martin Yan
All of us need to leave things behind in order to follow God. For some of us, it is addictive patterns of behavior, for others an overweening emphasis on our own success, for others the adulation of the crowd. It helps sometimes to look not just at what we're leaving behind and what God promises us, but also at what God has shown us already. Just look at all those fish. ~ James Martin
Isla Martin quotes by James Martin
Hold yourself.. why Winter is coming. Eddard Stark ~ George R R Martin
Isla Martin quotes by George R R Martin
Man is like a tree. If you stand in front of a tree and watch it incessantly, to see how it grows, and to see how much it has grown, you will see nothing at all. But tend it at all times, prune the runners and keep it free of beetles and worms, and all in good time-it will come into its growth. It is the same with man: all that is necessary is for him to overcome his obstacles, and he will thrive and grow. But it is not right to examine him hour after hour to see how much has already been added to his stature. ~ Martin Buber
Isla Martin quotes by Martin Buber
I am not surprised that this is a longer bit of work than many of us would have hoped. It is not where any of us would have hoped it is. And I think we need to give credit to the Republicans in Congress who have done everything they can to defeat every jobs bill and slow down the economy. ~ Martin O'Malley
Isla Martin quotes by Martin O'Malley
I really love the togetherness in baseball. That's a real true love. ~ Billy Martin
Isla Martin quotes by Billy Martin
Unless you learn to control the love you have for your children intelligently, it can become a selfish emotion. ~ Martin Wickramasinghe
Isla Martin quotes by Martin Wickramasinghe
Grief expressed out loud for someone we have lost, or a country or home we have lost, is in itself the greatest praise we could ever give them. Grief is praise, because it is the natural way love honors what it misses. ~ Martin Prechtel
Isla Martin quotes by Martin Prechtel
The Gods give with one hand and take with the other. ~ George R R Martin
Isla Martin quotes by George R R Martin
The doorway into the silent land is a wound. Silence lays bare this wound. We do not journey far along the spiritual path before we get some sense of the wound of the human condition, and this is precisely why not a few abandon a contemplative practice like meditation as soon as it begins to expose this wound; they move on instead to some spiritual entertainment that will maintain distraction. Perhaps this is why the weak and wounded, who know very well the vulnerability of the human condition, often have an aptitude for discovering silence and can sense the wholeness and healing that ground this wound.

There is something seductive about the contemplative path. "I am going to seduce her and lead her into the desert and speak to her heart" (Hosea 2:14), says Yahweh to Israel. It is tempting to think it is a superior path. More often, however, the seduction is to think we can use our practice of contemplation as a way to avoid facing our woundedness: if we can just go deeply enough into contemplation, we won't struggle any longer. It is common enough to find people taking a cosmetic view of contemplation, and then, after considerable time and dedication to contemplative practice, discover that they still have the same old warts and struggles they hoped contemplation would remove or hide. They think that somewhere they must have gone wrong.

Certainly there is deep conversion, healing, and unspeakable wholeness to be discovered along the contemplative path ~ Martin Laird
Isla Martin quotes by Martin Laird
When I'm making a film, I'm the audience. ~ Martin Scorsese
Isla Martin quotes by Martin Scorsese
The fuck?" he said.
"The fuck?" said Jess. "The fuck what?"
"It's an American abbreviation," said Martin. " «The fuck?» means «What the fuck?» In America, they're so busy that they don't have time to say the «what». ~ Nick Hornby
Isla Martin quotes by Nick Hornby
What this team did not realize was that having dirty tests is equivalent to, if not worse than, having no tests. ~ Robert C. Martin
Isla Martin quotes by Robert C. Martin
The Divine may come to life in individual man, may reveal itself from within individual man; but it attains its earthly fullness only where, having awakened to an awareness of their universal being, individual beings open themselves to one another, disclose themselves to one another, help one another; where immediacy is established between one human being and another; where the sublime stronghold of the individual is unbolted, and man breaks free to meet other man. Where this takes place, where the eternal rises in the Between, the seemingly empty space: that true place of realization is community, and true community is that relationship in which the Divine comes to its realization between man and man. These ~ Martin Buber
Isla Martin quotes by Martin Buber
They were the glory of their House. And now they are a sign above an inn. ~ George R.R. Martin
Isla Martin quotes by George R.R. Martin
How often have not the demons called 'Nix,' drawn women and girls into the water, and there had commerce with them, with fearful consequences. ~ Martin Luther
Isla Martin quotes by Martin Luther
Mirabelle is not sparkling tonight, because she works only in gears, and tonight she is in the wrong gear. Third gear is her scholarly, perspicacious, witty self; second gear is her happy, giddy, childish self; and first gear is her complaining, helpless, unmotivated self. Tonight she is somewhere midshift, between helpless and childish. ~ Steve Martin
Isla Martin quotes by Steve Martin
It's been said that happiness writes white. It doesn't show up on the page. When you're on holiday and writing a letter home to a friend, no one wants a letter that says the food is good and the weather is charming and the accommodations comfortable. You want to hear about lost passports and rat-filled shacks. ~ Martin Amis
Isla Martin quotes by Martin Amis
You go into flow when your highest strengths are deployed to meet the highest challenges that come your way. ~ Martin Seligman
