What Claire could do with the edible flowers that grew around the cranky apple tree in the backyard was the stuff of legend. Everyone knew that if you got Claire to cater your anniversary party, she would make aioli sauce with nasturtiums and tulip cups filled with orange salad, and everyone would leave the party feeling both jealous and aroused. And if you got her to cater your child's birthday party, she would serve tiny strawberry cupcakes and candied violets and the children would all be well behaved and would take long afternoon naps. Claire had a true magic to her cooking when she used her flowers. ~ Sarah Addison Allen
Edible Flowers quotes by Sarah Addison Allen

Edible Flowers quotes by Susan Wiggs
I followed the chef to the circular herb garden with relief. Here were familiar plants with gentle smells: thyme, dill, mint, basil, and others equally benign. He asked me to identify the ones I knew and gave me a brief dissertation on their uses: Dill was good with fish, thyme complemented veal, mint went well with fruit, and basil was perfect for the dreaded love apples. He plucked two large mint leaves with purplish undersides, placed one on his tongue, and gave me the other. We came to rest on a curved stone bench in the middle of the garden, and we sat there sucking on fresh mint, him enjoying the breeze, and me awaiting the judgement that must be coming.
He continued his lecture on herbs. He talked about the subtlety of bay laurel, the many varieties of thyme, and the use of edible flowers as garnishes. ~ Elle Newmark
Edible Flowers quotes by Elle Newmark
In Vietnamese hoa means 'flower' and the first thing we noticed on the menu was lau hoa, flower hotpot. This was where we were meant to be.
Stunning fresh blossoms of squash, daylilies, white so dua flowers, lotus stems and yellow velvetleaf buds made up the floral ingredients in our flower hotpot. All of these were cooked together in a light pineapple soup base that included chunks of salmon. The restaurant's brochure explained why the name had been chosen: 'Chi Hoa, which means "flowers", is a common name of many Vietnamese women who are sophisticated, caring and always bring great love into every meal they cook for their family. ~ Constance Kirker
Edible Flowers quotes by Constance Kirker
I do not know if Alice in Wonderland was an original story-I was, at least, no conscious imitator in writing it-but I do know that, since it came out, something like a dozen story-books have appeared, on identically the same pattern. The path I timidly explored believing myself to be 'the first that ever burst into that silent sea'-is now a beaten high-road: all the way-side flowers have long ago been trampled into the dust: and it would be courting disaster for me to attempt that style again. ~ Lewis Carroll
Edible Flowers quotes by Lewis Carroll
Good will is a power that can be used every day of the year and every hour of the day. It is instantly available. By continuously practicing good will we cultivate a deep subconscious habit of good will. It becomes a pattern of our response in all situations. Good will works as silently as the sun and with as much power. It thaws the ice and snow of resistance and indifference. It warms and wins human hearts. It draws forth the best in others as flowers are drawn from the soil. It stimulates growth. ~ Wilferd Peterson
Edible Flowers quotes by Wilferd Peterson
Tropical trees had been planted throughout the room, along with bright flowering plants that were busy committing the olfactory floral equivalent of aggravated assault. ~ Jim Butcher
Edible Flowers quotes by Jim Butcher
The afternoon was very hot, so hot that the breaking of the waves on the shore sounded like the repeated sigh of some exhausted creature, and even on the terrace under an awning the bricks were hot, and the air danced perpetually over the short dry grass. The red flowers in the stone basins were drooping with the heat, and the white blossoms which had been so smooth and thick only a few weeks ago were now dry, and their edges were curled and yellow. Only the stiff and hostile plants of the south, whose fleshy leaves seemed to be grown upon spines, still remained standing upright and defied the sun to beat them down. ~ Virginia Woolf
Edible Flowers quotes by Virginia Woolf
Her scent was there, swirling all around him. It was feminine, but not elegant. Not like flowers or the spring air, but rather like an autumn breeze, weaving its way through branches well on their way to winter slumber. It was the scent of a fall evening casting its glow over a serene lake. It was the smell of sunset, something he hadn't seen in so long. ~ Obie Williams
Edible Flowers quotes by Obie Williams
I like movies that keep me guessing until the end. I always guess flowers, because no matter what type of movie, whether romance, mystery, or horror, nobody suspects the flowers. ~ Jarod Kintz
Edible Flowers quotes by Jarod Kintz
There is a graveyard in my poor heart - dark, heaped-up graves, from which no flowers spring. ~ Adah Isaacs Menken
Edible Flowers quotes by Adah Isaacs Menken
There is to me a daintiness about early flowers that touches me like poetry. They blow out with such a simple loveliness among the common herbs of pastures, and breathe their lives so unobtrusively, like hearts whose beatings are too gentle for the world. ~ Nathaniel Parker Willis
Edible Flowers quotes by Nathaniel Parker Willis
Only an acceptance of both the flowers and the thorns can bring you peace. Peace, after all, is the fruit of total acceptance. ~ Rajneesh
Edible Flowers quotes by Rajneesh
Through the open door A drowsy smell of flowers -grey heliotrope And white sweet clover, and shy mignonette Comes fairly in, and silent chorus leads To the pervading symphony of Peace. ~ John Greenleaf Whittier
Edible Flowers quotes by John Greenleaf Whittier
The flowers were beaten down, their bent-over heads bejeweled with diamond droplets like earring on sad, rich widows ~ Barbara Kingsolver
Edible Flowers quotes by Barbara Kingsolver
A weed is but an unloved flower. ~ Ella Wheeler Wilcox
Edible Flowers quotes by Ella Wheeler Wilcox
-I told you:
My heart is from another youth
My blood, from another sea
Do not come close to my shores
But do not wander far from my lands
For it is in your eyes
Alone
That I look for the day
And on your lips
Alone
That I look for the rain
I give you my island
My storms and my tide
If you let me moor
To your quiet waters
And hide under flowers. ~ Emmanuelle Soni-Dessaigne
Edible Flowers quotes by Emmanuelle Soni-Dessaigne
O brain, be flowers that nightingales may come to sing! ~ Nikos Kazantzakis
Edible Flowers quotes by Nikos Kazantzakis
A gardener tending to his flowers is as noble as a warrior battling his opponents. ~ Matshona Dhliwayo
Edible Flowers quotes by Matshona Dhliwayo
She was getting over it. She could feel it. Maybe she would never entirely be over him, but she thought she was beginning to see that a fairly normal future could be hers again. ~ Rebecca Flowers
Edible Flowers quotes by Rebecca Flowers
We are merely ghost flowers under the shade of the moon
Many shades of secret sorrows blanket our eyes
We spend our lives and our souls
Searching-
Longing-
Waiting-
For a little light to shine and heal our broken halo's ~ Steven A. Williams
Edible Flowers quotes by Steven A. Williams
Once upon a time, there was Candy and Dan. Things were very hot that year. All the wax was melting in the trees. He would climb balconies, climb everywhere, do anything for her, oh Danny boy. Thousands of birds, the tiniest birds, adorned her hair. Everything was gold. One night the bed caught fire. He was handsome and a very good criminal. We lived on sunlight and chocolate bars. It was the afternoon of extravagant delight. Danny the daredevil. Candy went missing. The days last rays of sunshine cruise like sharks. I want to try it your way this time. You came into my life really fast and I liked it. We squelched in the mud of our joy. I was wet-thighed with surrender. Then there was a gap in things and the whole earth tilted. This is the business. This, is what we're after. With you inside me comes the hatch of death. And perhaps I'll simply never sleep again. The monster in the pool. We are a proper family now with cats and chickens and runner beans. Everywhere I looked. And sometimes I hate you. Friday -- I didn't mean that, mother of the blueness. Angel of the storm. Remember me in my opaqueness. You pointed at the sky, that one called Sirius or dog star, but on here on earth. Fly away sun. Ha ha fucking ha you are so funny Dan. A vase of flowers by the bed. My bare blue knees at dawn. These ruffled sheets and you are gone and I am going to. I broke your head on the back of the bed but the baby he died in the morning. I gave him a name. His name was Thomas. Poor little go ~ Luke Davies
Edible Flowers quotes by Luke Davies
All at once the hard, cold earth seemed to explode. The brown surface of the world dissolved and in its place was an impossible, an inconceivable, an unbelievable profusion of color: green grass and purple and red flowers; sprays of lily; white baby's breath that covered the hills; nodding fields of bright yellow daffodils; rich purple moss. The trees burst forth with new leaves. The weeping willow tree was a mass of tiny pale green leaves, thousands of them, which whispered and sighed together as the wind moved through its branches. There were fat heads of lettuce in the fields, and cucumbers lying like jewels among them, and enormous red tomatoes surrounded by thick, knotted vines.

And for the first time in 1,728 days, the clouds broke apart and there was dazzling blue sky, and light beyond what anyone could remember.

The sun had come out at last. ~ Lauren Oliver
Edible Flowers quotes by Lauren Oliver
You think God created us to be born only to grow and then die? Not even the tiniest perennial grows only to die. It comes back again and again when the season and the time is right. Even annual flowers grow seeds as they grow so that they can drop the seeds of themselves and live again year after year, life after life. ~ Kate McGahan
Edible Flowers quotes by Kate McGahan
The bee collects honey from flowers in such a way as to do the least damage or destruction to them, and he leaves them whole, undamaged and fresh, just as he found them. ~ Saint Francis De Sales
Edible Flowers quotes by Saint Francis De Sales
The Holy Scriptures praise the dew of the morning and the dew of the evening; ros matutinum, ros serotinum! Happy is he who possesses the gift of tears! when young, he will bear flowers; when old, fruit! ~ Philibert Joseph Roux
Edible Flowers quotes by Philibert Joseph Roux
He loved to saunter through fields of wild oats and corn-flowers, and busied himself with clouds nearly as much as with events. ~ Victor Hugo
Edible Flowers quotes by Victor Hugo
I believe in roses. Oh God, yes! I do believe in roses! And I believe in lots and lots and lots of them, too! ~ C. JoyBell C.
Edible Flowers quotes by C. JoyBell C.
Love finds us at different times, different moments in our lives. For some people, it happens gradually and grows over time. For others, it clamps down on their souls and won't let go. It's a unique feeling that won't leave your heart. There's no reason for it. She's in your life; you can't do or think of anything else, but her. You want to spend every moment in her company, even if it's only to gaze upon her face and be close to her. You're that for me, Lilly. ~ Loni Flowers
Edible Flowers quotes by Loni Flowers
Lotus flowers lead harrowing journeys. Their seeds sprout in murky swamp water, thick with dirt and debris and snarls of roots. For a lotus to bloom, she must forge her way through this terrible darkness, avoid being eaten by fish and insects, and keep pressing onward, innately knowing, or at least hoping, that there is sunlight somewhere above the water's surface, if she can only summon the strength to get there. And when she does, she emerges unscathed by her journey and blooms triumphantly. ~ Sarah Jio
Edible Flowers quotes by Sarah Jio
I don't think Gregori really knows what to do with you."
Gary's heart jumped. He cleared his throat. "I hope you mean that positively."
Savannah's eyes laughed at him. "Do you really think he'll harm you? He can read your mind. If you were an enemy, he would've killed you back in that warehouse." Wickedly she leaned across the table. "Of course, ie really is afully unpredictable, so you never know what he might do or where he is-" She broke off, laughing, as her arm wasflung into the air as if something had shackled her wrist and jerked her backward. Savannah was dragged by something unseen from the kitchen. She was laughing, her blue eyes dancing with mischief.
Gregori tugged at her wrist, taking her out into the sanctuary of the courtyard with its dense, overgrown plants. Flowers tumbled from the overhead arbors and trailingalong his shoulders as he emerged fully into the night. "You are deliberately scaring that young man to death," he accused.
She lifted her face to his, stars from the night sky in the centers of her eyes."Well, really, how could anyone doubt you?" As her palm caressed the hard line of his jaw,one fingertip touched his perfect mouth.
"Stop thinking you have to protect me, Savannah. It is enough that I have you. I do not need anyone else. ~ Christine Feehan
Edible Flowers quotes by Christine Feehan
In the autumn I gathered all my sorrows and buried them in my garden. And when April returned and spring came to wed the earth, there grew in my garden beautiful flowers unlike all other flowers. And my neighbors came to behold them, and they all said to me, "When autumn comes again, at seeding time, will you not give us of the seeds of these flowers that we may have them in our gardens?" ~ Khalil Gibran
Edible Flowers quotes by Khalil Gibran
Far off there was a great hill of shadow, and out of that shadow, which was its root, he saw the King's Tree springing up, tower upon tower, into the sky, and its light was like the sun at noon; and it bore at once leaves and flowers and fruits uncounted, and not one was the same as any other that grew on The Tree. ~ J.R.R. Tolkien
Edible Flowers quotes by J.R.R. Tolkien
What right has the unclean and stupid farmer, whose farm abutted on this sky water, whose shores he has ruthlessly laid bare, to give his name to it? Some skinflint, who loved better the reflecting surface of a dollar, or a bright cent, in which he could see his own brazen face; who regarded even the wild ducks which settled in it as trespassers; his fingers grown into crooked and horny talons from the long habit of grasping harpy-like; so it is not named for me. I go not there to see him nor to hear of him; who never saw it, who never bathed in it, who never loved it, who never protected it, who never spoke a good word for it, nor thanked God that He had made it. Rather let it be named from the fishes that swim in it, the wild fowl or quadrupeds which frequent it, the wild flowers which grow by its shores, or some wild man or child the thread of whose history is interwoven with its own; not from him who could show no title to it but the deed which a like-minded neighbor or legislature gave him--him who thought only of its money value. ~ Henry David Thoreau
Edible Flowers quotes by Henry David Thoreau
Once the roots of love have grown deep and firm,
the flowers will keep on blooming! ~ Avijeet Das
Edible Flowers quotes by Avijeet Das
If all flowers wanted to be roses, nature would lose her springtime beauty and the fields would no longer be decked out with little wildflowers. ~ Therese Of Lisieux
Edible Flowers quotes by Therese Of Lisieux
There is in every human heart Some not completely barren part, Where seeds of truth and love might grow, And flowers of generous virtue flow; To plant, to watch, to water there, This be our duty, be our care. ~ John Bowring
Edible Flowers quotes by John Bowring
Death is a personal matter, arousing sorrow, despair, fervor, or dry-hearted philosophy. Funerals, on the other hand, are social functions. Imagine going to a funeral without first polishing the automobile. Imagine standing at a graveside not dressed in your best dark suit and your best black shoes, polished delightfully. Imagine sending flowers to a funeral with no attached card to prove you had done the correct thing. In no social institution is the codified ritual of behavior more rigid than in funerals. Imagine the indignation if the minister altered his sermon or experimented with facial expression. Consider the shock if, at the funeral parlors, any chairs were used but those little folding yellow torture chairs with the hard seats. No, dying, a man may be loved, hated, mourned, missed; but once dead he becomes the chief ornament of a complicated and formal social celebration. ~ John Steinbeck
Edible Flowers quotes by John Steinbeck
More in-betweens: late afternoon, early spring, adolescence, falling in love. She hated the in-betweens. Always, she just wanted to get where she was going – to be there already, She was almost paralyzed by the in-betweenness. She didn't know how she was supposed to behave. ~ Rebecca Flowers
Edible Flowers quotes by Rebecca Flowers
The flowers themselves were strong and hardy. They filled the green with color and thrived on Camp Lakeview's land. Together. They spent the summer, and every summer thereafter, swaying lazily in the breeze, frozen in time. ~ Melissa J. Morgan
Edible Flowers quotes by Melissa J. Morgan
God has set his intentions in the flowers, in the dawn, in the spring, it is his will that we should love. ~ Victor Hugo
