Upward and Onward ~ Stephen Zimmer
Cross Genre quotes by Stephen Zimmer
Being cross-genre, you can encounter an image and decide not only how to best express it but what form would express it best. ~ Julianna Baggott
Cross Genre quotes by Julianna Baggott
They stared into the distance as though they were being absorbed into an alternate space-time reality. Perhaps they were. But probably they already had been. ~ Amy Tanner
Cross Genre quotes by Amy Tanner
Kate! Get some ice on that ankle or it's going to swell to the size of Luke's head. Then neither of you will be able to get through the front door. ~ Violet Cross
Cross Genre quotes by Violet Cross
The boat that Ammu would use to cross the river. To love by night the man her children loved by day. ~ Arundhati Roy
Cross Genre quotes by Arundhati Roy
This is a very common thing among male groups of friends. There is a person who's always taking heat from everyone else for various reasons. Not that I'm defending this behavior though, fuck no, I hate it when guys are like this; it's barbaric and stupid.

Unfortunately I think it's like an unconscious thing that just comes natural to guys when we're in groups. We take the piss out of each other all the time, prodding until we know the limits of each other and crossing the lines once in a while to test the boundaries.

Some guys who're overly-nice or don't fully understand this dynamic get completely shit on by it. If you keep excusing small actions by others that violate your boundaries, they'll just keep pushing and pushing, giving less and less respect until they know how far they're allowed to go. Having people knowing your limits and making sure to not cross them equates to respect, which is what we're after.

This doesn't mean you should to tell them all to fuck off now; that wouldn't work anymore because you've allowed them this far into your territory. It'd seem like an overreaction from you, which makes sense, right?

"We were just joking around yesterday about the same things, he seemed cool with it, but now he's all pissed for some reason, this guys a whack..."

The key thing to note if you want to avoid this in the future is to either find "nicer" friends, or to let people know when they cross a boundary. This may ~ Anonymous

So many have wept for Jesus on His cross. As if no one else has ever suffered as He suffered. As if millions have not shuffled to worse deaths, and died unremembered. ~ Joe Hill
Cross Genre quotes by Joe Hill
Unless I understand the Cross, I cannot understand why my commitment to what is right must be precedence over what I prefer. ~ Ravi Zacharias
Cross Genre quotes by Ravi Zacharias
Martinez is a devout Catholic. I knew that. What I didn't know was he brought along a small wooden cross. I'm sure NASA gave him shit about it, but I also know Martinez is one stubborn son of a bitch. ~ Andy Weir
Cross Genre quotes by Andy Weir
You know that part of your writing that you question, - that's weird and doesn't fit neatly into a genre or mold?Write more of that. Please. ~ Richard Thomas
Cross Genre quotes by Richard Thomas
I think what education gives you is a voice. It gives you a way of talking to a judge. When a policeman pulls you off to the side of the road, you have a voice. When you cross a border, you have a voice. When you are writing to express your opinions, you have a voice. ~ Richard Rodriguez
Cross Genre quotes by Richard Rodriguez
What can we do
when even the public conveyances
sing?
how can we go anywhere,
even cross-town
how get out of anywhere ~ Charles Olson
Cross Genre quotes by Charles Olson
Times goes by your choice, if you make your days wonderful the days will go fast... and interesting and memorable.... If you do it in boring way they will go like watching a film which doesn't have something to make you get interested without games, crimes, horror, thriller, romance and every single other genre which you think without it the film is awful... but not only genre, but genres! ~ Deyth Banger
Cross Genre quotes by Deyth Banger
I thought you lot brought a buildin' down on 'is 'ead."
"We did," Sam replied before she could. "I don't think it took. ~ Kady Cross
Cross Genre quotes by Kady Cross
For by nature human beings are afraid of death and of the dissolution of the body. But this is most amazing, that one who has put on the faith of the cross scorns even things according to nature, and is not afraid of death because of Christ. ~ Athanasius Of Alexandria
Cross Genre quotes by Athanasius Of Alexandria
The question that wins the world is not, how can we get our "morally superior" way enforced in the world? The question that wins the world, and the question that must define the individual and collective life of kingdom-of-God citizens is, how do we take up the cross for the world? How do we best communicate to others their unsurpassable worth before God? How do we serve and wash the feet of the oppressed and despised? ~ Gregory A. Boyd
Cross Genre quotes by Gregory A. Boyd
He seems to be on the brink of one of his bad spells again, one of the fits of lugubrious self-pity that turn into black gloom. He likes to think that they comes from elsewhere, episodes of bad weather that cross the sky and pass on. He prefers not to think they come from inside him and are his, part of him. ~ J.M. Coetzee
Cross Genre quotes by J.M. Coetzee
The love of Christ presses us. The source of the love of Jesus Christ for men is his love for God. Hence he said on Holy Thursday, That the world may know that I love the Father, arise, let us from here. But to where? To die for men upon the cross. ~ Alfonso Maria De Liguori
Cross Genre quotes by Alfonso Maria De Liguori
I climbed into the honey wagon with my hair uncombed, with May handing me buttered toast and orange juice through the window and Rosaleen sticking in thermoses of water, both of them practically running alongside the truck while August rolled out of the driveway. I felt like the Red Cross springing to action to save the bee queendom. ~ Sue Monk Kidd
Cross Genre quotes by Sue Monk Kidd
I go out of my way to make sure you don't have any reason to feel jealous, but when you do get possessive, I like it. I want you to fight for me. I want you to care that much. I want you crazy about me. But possessiveness without trust is hell. If you don't trust me, we've got nothing. ~ Sylvia Day
Cross Genre quotes by Sylvia Day
You just wait patiently like you always do in America among those apparently endless policemen and their endless laws against (no laws for)
but the moment you cross the little wire gate and you're in Mexico, you feel like you just sneaked out of school when you told the teacher you were sick and she told you you could go home, 2 o'clock in the afternoon. ~ Jack Kerouac
Cross Genre quotes by Jack Kerouac
His manner of asking personal questions was of that kind not uncommonly to be found which is completely divorced from any interest in the answer. He was always prepared to embark on a lengthy cross-examination of almost anyone he might meet, at the termination of which - apart from such details as might chance to concern himself - he had absorbed no more about the person interrogated than he knew at the outset of the conversation. At the same time this process seemed somehow to gratify his own egotism. ~ Anthony Powell
Cross Genre quotes by Anthony Powell
In his temptation of Jesus, Satan quoted Scripture, and he didn't remember, misquote anything. God wants his children to eat bread, not to starve before stones. God will protect his anointed one with the angels of heaven. God will give his Messiah all the kingdoms of the earth. All this is true. What is satanic about all of this, though, is that Satan wanted our Lord to grasp these things apart from the cross and the empty tomb. ~ Russell D. Moore
Cross Genre quotes by Russell D. Moore
The soul of one who serves God always swims in joy, always keeps holiday, is always in her palace of jubilation, ever singing with fresh ardor and fresh pleasure a new song of joy and love. ~ John Of The Cross
Cross Genre quotes by John Of The Cross
The Rubicons which women must cross, the sex barriers which they must breach, are ultimately those that exist in their own minds. ~ Freda Adler
Cross Genre quotes by Freda Adler
It is the fellowship of the Cross to experience the burden of the other. If one does not experience it, the fellowship he belongs to is not Christian. If any member refuses to bear that burden, he denies the law of Christ. ~ Dietrich Bonhoeffer
Cross Genre quotes by Dietrich Bonhoeffer
All my friends are always telling me how hard it is to have kids. 'Oh, David, it's so hard.' That's not hard. I'll tell you what hard is. Try talking your girlfriend into her third consecutive abortion. Yeah, that's hard, that takes finesse. You're just inconvenienced. ~ David Cross
Cross Genre quotes by David Cross
That's more about lifestyle [Peter Mayles], living abroad. It's about buying a donkey and house in south France, and that's a slightly different thing. A very popular genre but that's not quite my thing. ~ John Gimlette
Cross Genre quotes by John Gimlette
There is more in the atonement by way of merit, than there is in all human sin by way of demerit. ~ Charles Haddon Spurgeon
Cross Genre quotes by Charles Haddon Spurgeon
Preach Christ or nothing: don't dispute or discuss except with your eye on the cross. ~ Charles Spurgeon
Cross Genre quotes by Charles Spurgeon
In a state-run society the government promises you security. But it's a false promise predicated on the idea that the opposite of security is risk. Nothing could be further from the truth. The opposite of security is insecurity, and the only way to overcome insecurity is to take risks. The gentle government that promises to hold your hand as you cross the street refuses to let go on the other side. ~ Theodore J. Forstmann
Cross Genre quotes by Theodore J. Forstmann
anybody who has spent two months training a goshawk, knowing that it will be fatal even to give the creature even a cross look,' the man says, 'it seems very extraordinary that the complex psychology of a human being can be taught with a stick.' Sitting ~ Helen Macdonald
Cross Genre quotes by Helen Macdonald
In answer to modern requests for signs and wonders, Our Lord might say, 'You repeat Satan's temptation, whenever you admire the wonders of science, and forget that I am the Author of the Universe and its science. Your scientists are the proofreaders, but not the authors of the Book of Nature; they can see and examine My handiwork, but they cannot create one atom themselves. You would tempt Me to prove Myself omnipotent by meaningless tests...You tempt Me after you have willfully destroyed your own cities with bombs by shrieking out, "Why does God not stop this war?" You tempt Me, saying that I have no power, unless I show it at your beck and call. This, if you remember, is exactly how Satan tempted Me in the desert.

I have never had many followers on the lofty heights of Divine truth, I know; for instance, I have hardly had the intelligentsia. I refuse to perform stunts to win them, for they would not really be won that way. It is only when I am seen on the Cross that I really draw men to Myself; it is by sacrifice, and not by marvels, that I must make My appeal. I must win followers not with test tubes, but with My blood; not with material power, but with love; not with celestial fireworks, but with the right use of reason and free will. ~ Fulton J. Sheen
Cross Genre quotes by Fulton J. Sheen
There are alternatives to medication, though they tend to have more disruptive side effects."

"Like what?"

"Have you ever been in love?"

"In what sense?"

"We'll cross that road when we come to it. ~ Ottessa Moshfegh
Cross Genre quotes by Ottessa Moshfegh
Take away material prosperity; take away emotional highs; take away miracles and healing; take away fellowship with other believers; take away church; take away all opportunity for service; take away assurance of salvation; take away the peace and joy of the Holy Spirit ... Yes! Take it all, all, far, far away. And what is left? Tragically, for many believers there would be nothing left. For does our faith really go that deep? Or do we, in the final analysis, have a cross-less Christianity? ~ Mike Mason
Cross Genre quotes by Mike Mason
Between here and there is a journey illuminated by the rising and setting of a radiant sun. Don't miss its splendor in your all-fired hurry to cross the finish line. ~ Richelle E. Goodrich
Cross Genre quotes by Richelle E. Goodrich
She did know Tuck cared, however. ~ Kaylea Cross
Cross Genre quotes by Kaylea Cross
I like the structure of the crime story, but most of all I like the ecosystem in which the genre flourishes: the festivals, the websites, the fans, the fact that you have your own special section of the bookshop. And crime is cool, too. It's dark and edgy and funny and intelligent. I love it. ~ Harry Bingham
Cross Genre quotes by Harry Bingham
I had grown up on Folkway's Nonesuch field recordings and the stuff Lomax had done for the Library of Congress, but the production values on the Ocora releases were on a whole other level. Eno and I realized that music from elsewhere didn't need to sound distant, scratchy, or 'primitive.' These recordings were as well produced as any contemporary recordings in any genre. You were made to feel, for example, that this music wasn't a ghostly remnant form some lost culture, soon to be relegated to the almost forgotten past. It was vital, and it was happening right now. To us there was strange beauty there, deep passion, and the compositions often operated by rules and structures that were radically different from what we were used to. As a result, our limited ideas of what constituted music were exploded forever. These recordings opened up myriad ways that music could be made and organized. There were many musical universes out there, and we had been blinkered by confining ourselves to only one. ~ David Byrne
Cross Genre quotes by David Byrne
I'll tell you my routine - it's really exciting. I feed, I burp, I change diapers, I pump. And then I have a tiny window of time to myself. ~ Marcia Cross
Cross Genre quotes by Marcia Cross
Every person is blind in their own way and sometimes need a hand to help them cross ... ~ Swetha Dhanagari
Cross Genre quotes by Swetha Dhanagari
Your forties is not the time to be thinking about getting pregnant. ~ Marcia Cross
Cross Genre quotes by Marcia Cross
One step beyond that boundary line which resembles the line dividing the living from the dead lies uncertainty, suffering, and death. And what is there? Who is there?
there beyond that field, that tree, that roof lit up by the sun? No one knows, but one wants to know. You fear and yet long to cross that line, and know that sooner or later it must be crossed and you will have to find out what is there, just as you will inevitably have to learn what lies the other side of death. But you are strong, healthy, cheerful, and excited, and are surrounded by other such excitedly animated and healthy men. ~ Leo Tolstoy
Cross Genre quotes by Leo Tolstoy
I can't help it either, the laughing: solemn gatherings, slow
ballads, pompous orations, any person or occasion that assumes I'll
offer my unreserved respect: I tend to find them all hysterical in the
end. Especially if someone similar is there to set me off. They don't
have to do much: I recognize what it looks like when somebody's
composure starts to strip itself away. They'll maybe cross their arms
with that twitchy, shaky, tension, or they'll grab down little wheezes
of embarrassed air, or they'll simply hood their faces under their
palm, trying to hide how fast they're slipping, how fast *we're*
slipping, because I'll be weakening with them by then, I'll be just as
lost, pulled equally tight against the moment when we both stop caring
and let it disgrace us
when we laugh. ~ A. L. Kennedy
Cross Genre quotes by A. L. Kennedy
Her next words took me by surprise. I lay as still as I could, barely breathing, afraid that if I moved she would stop speaking her heart.
"My mom wanted six children. She only got me, and that sucks for her because I was a total weirdo."
"You were not," I said.
She twisted her head up to look at me.
"I used to line my lips in black eyeliner and sit cross-legged on the kitchen table … meditating."
"Not that bad," I said. "Crying out for attention."
"Okay, when I was twelve I started writing letters to my birth mother because I wanted to be adopted."
I shook my head. "Your childhood sucked, you wanted a new reality."
She snorted air through her nose. "I thought a mermaid lived in my shower drain, and I used to call her Sarah and talk to her."
"Active imagination," I countered. She was becoming more insistent, her little body wriggling in my grip.
"I used to make paper out of dryer lint."
"Nerdy."
"I wanted to be one with nature, so I started boiling grass and drinking it with a little bit of dirt for sugar."
I paused. "Okay, that's weird."
"Thank you!" she said. Then, she got serious again. "My mom just loved me through all of it. ~ Tarryn Fisher
