Ranchers need clean water for their stock, farmers need it for their crops, every employer needs it to stay in business, and every living thing needs it for life ... The law needs to be clear to protect water quality and the rights of landowners. ~ Mark Udall
Coned Stock quotes by Mark Udall
Here is a dirty little secret: Stock-picking is wildly overrated. Sure, it makes for great cocktail party chatter, and what is more fun than delving into a company's new products? But the truth is that individual stocks are riskier than broad indices. ~ Barry Ritholtz
Coned Stock quotes by Barry Ritholtz
Take stock of your thoughts and behavior. Each night ask yourself, when were you negative when you could have been positive? When did you withhold love when you might have given it? When did you play a neurotic game instead of behaving in a powerful way? Use this process to self-correct. ~ Marianne Williamson
Coned Stock quotes by Marianne Williamson
Experience has proved to me that real money made in speculating has been in commitments in a stock or commodity showing a profit right from the start. ~ Jesse Lauriston Livermore
Coned Stock quotes by Jesse Lauriston Livermore
My father and I used to tussle about me becoming an actor. He's from strong, Presbyterian Scottish working-class stock, and he used to sit me down and say, 'You know, 99 percent of actors are out of work. You've been educated, so why do you want to spend your life pretending to be someone else when you could be your own man?' ~ Tom Hiddleston
Coned Stock quotes by Tom Hiddleston
Repeating the commonplaces about atheism and materialism and sophistry, which are the stock-accusations against all philosophers when there is nothing else to be said of them. ~ Plato
Coned Stock quotes by Plato
There's something that's so basically corrupt about any system in which a good and fair profit is not enough. There has to be more, every year, every quarter, because your stock price has to rise. ~ Paul Haggis
Coned Stock quotes by Paul Haggis
Talking aloud to oneself is usually indicative of a mental malady. Self-talk is also the stock in trade of an essay writer. ~ Kilroy J. Oldster
Coned Stock quotes by Kilroy J. Oldster
And though Russia does officially have a free market, with mega-corporations floating their record-breaking IPOs on the global stock exchanges, most of the owners are friends of the President. Or else they are oligarchs who officially pledge that everything that belongs to them is also the President's when he needs it: "All that I have belongs to the state," says Oleg Deripaska, one of the country's richest men. This isn't a country in transition but some sort of postmodern dictatorship that uses the language and institutions of democratic capitalism for authoritarian ends. ~ Peter Pomerantsev
Coned Stock quotes by Peter Pomerantsev
If some stock categories get too hot-and-pricey, mass supply is created via stock offerings to tap that cheap money - and, when overdone, drives it all down. ~ Kenneth Fisher
Coned Stock quotes by Kenneth Fisher
For instance, let us say that a new stock has been listed in the last two or three years and its high was 20, or any other figure, and that such a price was made two or three years ago. If something favorable happens in connection with the company, and the stock starts upward, usually it is safe play to buy the minute it touches a brand new high. ~ Jesse Lauriston Livermore
Coned Stock quotes by Jesse Lauriston Livermore
Quoting Demosthenes, 'For what each man wishes, that he also believes to be true.' I would rather make money playing a piano in a whorehouse than arguing that no cost is incurred when employees are paid in stock options instead of cash. I am not kidding. ~ Charlie Munger
Coned Stock quotes by Charlie Munger
As far as you are concerned, the stock market does not exist. Ignore it. ~ Warren Buffett
Coned Stock quotes by Warren Buffett
These stupid peasants, who, throughout the world, hold potentates on their thrones, make statesmen illustrious, provide generals with lasting victories, all with ignorance, indifference, or half-witted hatred, moving the world with the strength of their arms, and getting their heads knocked together in the name of God, the king, or the stock exchange-immortal, dreaming, hopeless asses, who surrender their reason to the care of a shining puppet, and persuade some toy to carry their lives in his purse. ~ Stephen Crane
Coned Stock quotes by Stephen Crane
There's a company behind every stock and a reason companies - and their stocks - perform the way they do. ~ Peter Lynch
Coned Stock quotes by Peter Lynch
One, which I mention several times elsewhere, is the need for patience if big profits are to be made from investment. Put another way, it is often easier to tell what will happen to the price of a stock than how much time will elapse before it happens. The other is the inherently deceptive nature of the stock market. Doing what everybody else is doing at the moment, and therefore what you have an almost irresistible urge to do, is often the wrong thing to do at all. ~ Philip Arthur Fisher
Coned Stock quotes by Philip Arthur Fisher
I refuse to believe that trading recipes is silly. Tuna Fish casserole is at least as real as corporate stock. ~ Barbara Grizzuti Harrison
Coned Stock quotes by Barbara Grizzuti Harrison
Lent is the time for trimming the soul and scrapping the sludge off a life turned slipshod. Lent is about taking stock of time, even religious time. Lent is about exercising the control that enables us to say no to ourselves so that when life turns hard of its own accord we have the stamina to yes to its twists and turns with faith and hope. Lent is the time to make new efforts to be what we say we want to be. ~ Joan D. Chittister
Coned Stock quotes by Joan D. Chittister
It is crucial to have a strategy in place before problems hit, precisely because no one can accurately predict the future direction of the stock market or economy. Value investing, the strategy of buying stocks at an appreciable discount from the value of the underlying businesses, is one strategy that provides a road map to successfully navigate not only through good times but also through turmoil. ~ Seth Klarman
Coned Stock quotes by Seth Klarman
This leaves only two options: disintegration, or a new dictatorship ... no, there is a third, and I shall not be so pessimistic as to deny its possibility. The third option is the substitution of a new myth for the old one. Here are three such myths, all available from stock at short notice: liberty, equality, fraternity. ~ Salman Rushdie
Coned Stock quotes by Salman Rushdie
I try to express in my films things that no other art can approach. In my monster films for example, I use special effects in the same way one would use a special film stock, a special camera, and so on. Monster films permit me to use all of these elements at the same time. They are the most visual kind of film. ~ Ishiro Honda
Coned Stock quotes by Ishiro Honda
Actually, one of the better indicators historically of how well the stock market will do is just a Gallup poll, when you ask Americans if you think it's a good time to invest in stocks, except it goes the opposite direction of what you would expect. When the markets going up, it in fact makes it more prone toward decline. ~ Nate Silver
Coned Stock quotes by Nate Silver
The workmen in a factory may have a shadowy, unknown absentee "employer" - the thousands of individual owners of stock - whom "management" represents and tries to please by extra dividends. The workman's livelihood is at the disposition of strangers who make a single demand of their representatives: higher profits. ~ Fulton J. Sheen
Coned Stock quotes by Fulton J. Sheen
There is no such thing as a bargain stock. ~ Kenneth Eade
Coned Stock quotes by Kenneth Eade
I think everybody gets caught up in superstitions. But I don't put much stock in them ... knock on wood. ~ Jason Akermanis
Coned Stock quotes by Jason Akermanis
Diversify Your Sources of Self-Esteem

Another way to increase your resiliency is to diversify your sources of self-esteem. Just like putting all your money in a single stock is risky, putting all your self-esteem eggs in one basket is psychologically risky. If your self-esteem is almost entirely based on your career achievements, having a flat stomach, or how hot your boyfriend or girlfriend is, you'll be at more risk of coming unstuck psychologically if your career stalls, you gain weight, or your hot boyfriend or girlfriend dumps you. You'll feel less anxious if your self-esteem isn't too closely tied to just one or two domains.
Experiment: Self-esteem is composed of (1) a sense of self-worth and (2) a sense of being competent at things. For example, sources of self-worth might involve loving and being loved by others; an ability to make other people feel comfortable and at ease, or positive contributions you make to society, your field, or your community. In contrast, a sense of competency might come from being good at computer tasks, being able to prepare a dinner party for 10, or paying your bills on time. Try coming up with three sources of self-worth and three things you're competent at. Aim to recognize areas you've tended to underappreciate. ~ Alice Boyes
Coned Stock quotes by Alice Boyes
Each of us describes our existence by means of objects which are indifferent to us, which survive us, and which are then thrown back into the common stock from which they are soon gathered again and ascribed other roles in other circumstances. ~ Andrew Motion
Coned Stock quotes by Andrew Motion
Abraham, a simple farmer, at a word from the Invisible God, marched, with family and stock, through the terrible desert to a distant land to live among a people whose language he could neither speak nor understand! Not bad, that! ~ Charles Studd
Coned Stock quotes by Charles Studd
My percentage of winners is only about 50/50, because I cut my losers very quickly. The maximum loss I allow is 7%, and usually I am out of a losing stock a lot quicker. I make my money on the few stocks a year that double and triple in price. The profits in those trades easily makes up for all the small losers. ~ David Ryan
Coned Stock quotes by David Ryan
It is not by means of a metaphor that a banking or stock-market transaction, a claim, a coupon, a credit, is able to arouse people who are not necessarily bankers. And what about the effects of money that grows, money that produces more money? There are socioeconomic "complexes" that are also veritable complexes of the unconscious, and that communicate a voluptuous wave from the top to the bottom of their hierarchy (the military-industrial complex). And ideology, Oedipus, and the phallus have nothing to do with this, because they depend on it rather than being its impetus. For it is a matter of flows, of stocks, of breaks in and fluctuations of flows; desire is present wherever something flows and runs, carrying along with it interested subjects - but also drunken or slumbering subjects - toward lethal destinations. ~ Gilles Deleuze
Coned Stock quotes by Gilles Deleuze
Driving a stock car does not require much handling ability, at least not as compared to Grand Prix racing, because the tracks are simple banked ovals and there is almost no shifting of gears. So, qualifying becomes a test of raw nerve - of how fast a man is willing to take a curve. ~ Tom Wolfe
Coned Stock quotes by Tom Wolfe
Someone in a novel, was he not? I don't take much stock of detectives in novels
chaps that do things and never let you see how they do them. ~ Arthur Conan Doyle
Coned Stock quotes by Arthur Conan Doyle
Cognition is ... not an individual process of any theoretical "particular conciousness." Rather it is the result of a social activity, since the existing stock of knowledge exceeds the range available to any one individual. ~ Ludwik Fleck
Coned Stock quotes by Ludwik Fleck
I don't invest in the stock market, but I have pension funds - some in America and the UK. ~ Eric Idle
Coned Stock quotes by Eric Idle
That feeling in the dressing room after you win - nothing comes close to that. You can't get that in any other career. Maybe in the stock market back in the '80s when people were making tons of money, maybe they felt something similar. Maybe. But look at the market now. Nothing gives you that emotion like sports. Nothing. Am I wrong? ~ Paul Coffey
Coned Stock quotes by Paul Coffey
My parents were working class folks. My dad was a bartender for most of his life, my mom was a maid and a cashier and a stock clerk at WalMart. We were not people of financial means in terms of significant financial means. I always told them, 'I didn't always have what I wanted. I always had what I needed.' My parents always provided that. ~ Marco Rubio
Coned Stock quotes by Marco Rubio
In the morning I walked down the Boulevard to the rue Soufflot for coffee and brioche. It was a fine morning. The horse-chestnut trees in the Luxembourg gardens were in bloom. There was the pleasant early-morning feeling of a hot day. I read the papers with the coffee and then smoked a cigarette. The flower-women were coming up from the market and arranging their daily stock. Students went by going up to the law school, or down to the Sorbonne. The Boulevard was busy with trams and people going to work. ~ Ernest Hemingway,
Coned Stock quotes by Ernest Hemingway,
The dumbest reason in the world to buy a stock is because it's going up. ~ Warren Buffett
