A lot of the names in Talon reference other people or events. For example Amelia, the giant Eagle, was a "tip of my hat" to the extraordinary aviator Amelia Earhart. Both love(d) to fly! ~ Christopher Gerard
Animal Fiction quotes by Christopher Gerard
Most of the time, those who use animals in experiments justify that use by pointing to alleged benefits to human and animal health and the supposed necessity of using animals to obtain those benefits. ~ Gary L. Francione
Animal Fiction quotes by Gary L. Francione
I would say I'm an ironist not a satirist. All you do is you take existing tendencies and crank them up, just turn up the volume dial. Which is a technique of science fiction, apart from anything else. ~ Martin Amis
Animal Fiction quotes by Martin Amis
And I'm wondering where the lions are. ~ Bruce Cockburn
Animal Fiction quotes by Bruce Cockburn
Writing is a psychological process. It is the process of taking what is in your mind and sharing it with others. ~ Gudjon Bergmann
Animal Fiction quotes by Gudjon Bergmann
Really, Beliefs have the power to create and the power to destroy ... Human beings have the awesome ability to take any experience of their lives and create a meaning that dis-empowers them or one that can literally save their lives ...
gone through many different phases of Destines and that's what made me to pen down ... hope it won't screw-up me again ...
Something beyond love ... ~ Atul Purohit
Animal Fiction quotes by Atul Purohit
Mr. Bear, you know in the eyes of the Lord, we're both beasts. ~ Jimmy Buffett
Animal Fiction quotes by Jimmy Buffett
You're an incredible woman, Lela. I would battle a thousand Terrademons to reach your heart. But I cannot challenge or defeat an enemy that's already dead. I cannot fight for a heart that doesn't want to be won. ~ N.D. Jones
Animal Fiction quotes by N.D. Jones
Every novel is a debtor to Homer. ~ Ralph Waldo Emerson
Animal Fiction quotes by Ralph Waldo Emerson
As a kid, I didn't read a great deal of fiction, and I've forgotten most of what I did read. ~ Mark Haddon
Animal Fiction quotes by Mark Haddon
Cat Rambo: Where do you think the perennial debate between what is literary fiction and what is genre is sited?

Norman Spinrad: I think it's a load of crap. See my latest column in Asimov's, particularly re The Road by Cormac McCarthy. I detest the whole concept of genre. A piece of fiction is either a good story well told or it isn't. The supposed dichotomy between "literary fiction" and "popular fiction" is ridiculous. Hemingway, Fitzgerald, Mailer, did not have serious literary intent? As writers of serious literary intent, they didn't want to be "popular," meaning sell a lot of books? They wanted to be unpopular and have terrible sales figures to prove they were "serious"?

I say this is bullshit and I say the hell with it. "Genre," if it means anything at all, is a restrictive commercial requirement. "Westerns" must be set in the Old West. "Mysteries" must have a detective solving a crime, usually murder. "Nurse Novels" must have a nurse. And so forth.

In the strictly literary sense, neither science fiction nor fantasy are "genres." They are anti-genres. They can be set anywhere and anywhen except in the mimetic here and now or a real historical period. They are the liberation of fiction from the constraints of "genre" in an absolute literary sense. ~ Norman Spinrad
Animal Fiction quotes by Norman Spinrad
This director could say many things about duty, and self-respect, and dignity, but she knew none of these meant much in the post-modern world. ~ B. Barmanbek
Animal Fiction quotes by B. Barmanbek
In justifying cruelty to animals we put ourselves also on the animal level. We choose the jungle and must abide by our choice. ~ C.S. Lewis
Animal Fiction quotes by C.S. Lewis
You killed me." My voice was unsteady.

He held me close again. "I brought you back."

"Please tell me we only have to do that once."

He whispered against my ear, "I swear I won't kill you again. Cross my heart and hope to die." It was a bad joke ~ Catrina Burgess
Animal Fiction quotes by Catrina Burgess
Try telling the boy who's just had his girlfriend's name
cut into his arm that there's slippage between the signifier
and the signified. Or better yet explain to the girl
who watched in the mirror as the tattoo artist stitched
the word for her father's name (on earth as in heaven)
across her back that words aren't made of flesh and blood,
that they don't bite the skin. Language is the animal
we've trained to pick up the scent of meaning. It's why
when the boy hears his father yelling at the door
he sends the dog that he's kept hungry, that he's kicked,
then loved, to attack the man, to show him that every word
has a consequence, that language, when used right, hurts. ~ Todd Davis
Animal Fiction quotes by Todd Davis
If you look at the films that I've done generally, you would probably get an idea of what I'm most interested in, and if ever I do something unusual like a science fiction film or an action film or a comedy or something, then that to me feels like a step to the side to do something different. ~ Guy Pearce
Animal Fiction quotes by Guy Pearce
As he hurtled through the air Simon saw the boiling emerald fire hit his protective spell and explode into sickly green sparks, inches from where Falamir was still crouched, oblivious to the chaos unfolding around him. ~ Sam Whitehouse
Animal Fiction quotes by Sam Whitehouse
While spay neuter is important, our goal has never been no more births, even though reducing birth rates might help. Our goal has been and is, and has always been no more killing. And when you focus on the no more killing part, spay neuter actually takes a backseat to all those other programs like foster care, and adoptions, and helping people overcome the challenges they face that cause them to surrender their animals. ~ Nathan Winograd
Animal Fiction quotes by Nathan Winograd
Ed, once called Aladdin, is the first artificial intelligence I've ever known. Maybe if Harry can kill Hiskott and if then I live long enough to see the world become the total science-fiction theme park it seems to be headed toward, I'll probably know dozens of them one day. Let me tell you, if they're all as nice as Ed has turned out to be, that's okay with me. ~ Dean Koontz
Animal Fiction quotes by Dean Koontz
That's it. Keep that edge. Fight like there's no tomorrow. ~ Henry V. O'Neil
Animal Fiction quotes by Henry V. O'Neil
Speculative fiction by definition is geared toward an audience that wants strangeness, an audience that wants to spend time in worlds that absolutely are not like the observable world around them. ~ Orson Scott Card
Animal Fiction quotes by Orson Scott Card
These were the facts. Facts were important. They separated fiction from reality, the tawdry world of Mike Longshott from the concrete spaces of Joe's world. ~ Lavie Tidhar
Animal Fiction quotes by Lavie Tidhar
My reason for becoming a vegetarian was simple: I loved (and love) animals ~ Moby
Animal Fiction quotes by Moby
I would next like to work in anthropology; for here, if I may say so, I believe I have much to contribute-indeed, I believe I am on the verge of substantiating significant advances both theoretical and practical; yes, my inquisitors, I assure you this is true; for I have established, on my own, as an unaffiliated scholar, no less than a new definition of Man- yes, him- one that is easily more rigorous than any heretofore proposed; forget opposable thumbs, disregard use of tools, lay down language capacity or abstract reasoning-those are clearly insufficient; my definition easily surpasses these provisional flouncings in accuracy, comprehensiveness, and elegance; and it is this: man is the animal who pisses where he shouldn't; ~ Evan Dara
Animal Fiction quotes by Evan Dara
Know what being a man's pet means. And if you're ever lucky enough to find yourself with the choice, choose the pasture. ~ Stacy Overman Morrison
Animal Fiction quotes by Stacy Overman Morrison
All our lives, we long, we long, thinking it is the moon we long for. So how, when we meet it in the shape of a most fair woman, can we do less than leave all others for her? WB Yeats ~ Orna Ross
Animal Fiction quotes by Orna Ross
If there is any kind of animal which is female and has no male separate from it, it is possible that this may generate a young one from itself. No instance of this worthy of any credit has been observed up to the present at any rate, but one case in the class of fishes makes us hesitate. No male of the so-called erythrinus has ever yet been seen, but females, and specimens full of roe, have been seen. Of this, however, we have as yet no proof worthy of credit. ~ Aristotle.
Animal Fiction quotes by Aristotle.
What does it mean to be a self-conscious animal? The idea is ludicrous, if it is not monstrous. It means to know that one is food for worms. ~ Ernest Becker
Animal Fiction quotes by Ernest Becker
In French culture, the best way of buying time or getting off the hook entirely in a thorny personal situation is to claim that it's complicated. The French did not invent love, but they did invent romance, so they've had more time than any other culture on earth to refine the nuances of its language. ~ Mark Zero
Animal Fiction quotes by Mark Zero
Now comes the difficult part: you must provoke the animal that is afflicting you. Tiger, rhinoceros, ostrich, wild boar, brown bear- no matter the beast, you must get its goat. ~ Yann Martel
Animal Fiction quotes by Yann Martel
By and large, serious fiction was the work of victims who portrayed victims for an audience of victims who, it was oddly assumed, would want to see their lives realistically portrayed. ~ Gore Vidal
Animal Fiction quotes by Gore Vidal
("we appreciated the intricately thought-out, detailed universe you've created for your story." ~Arthur A. Levine Books (publishers of The Harry Potter series.)) about my book! ~ Arthur A. Levine Books
Animal Fiction quotes by Arthur A. Levine Books
Being surrounded by nature and animals always kept me grounded and happy. ~ Alison Eastwood
Animal Fiction quotes by Alison Eastwood
I do write fiction, and I find it more difficult, but also more liberating. On the one hand, you can make up the story, but you have to make up the story. ~ Emily Susan Rapp
Animal Fiction quotes by Emily Susan Rapp
Dr. Jules Hilbert: Hell Harold, you could just eat nothing but pancakes if you wanted.
Harold Crick: What is wrong with you? Hey, I don't want to eat nothing but pancakes, I want to live! I mean, who in their right mind in a choice between pancakes and living chooses pancakes?
Dr. Jules Hilbert: Harold, if you pause to think, you'd realize that that answer is inextricably contingent upon the type of life being led ... and, of course, the quality of the pancakes. ~ Zach Helm
Animal Fiction quotes by Zach Helm
In a science fiction movie, the first act is a little longer than it is in most movies because there is so much world building to do. ~ Joseph Kosinski
Animal Fiction quotes by Joseph Kosinski
There is no such thing as too ordinary to write about, whether that's life or a scene in a novel. What's interesting to people, whether it's memoir or fiction, is the truth. ~ Augusten Burroughs
