Humans were made for love and beauty; their vulnerability was what made them feel on the deepest level and what could also crush their will to live. ~ Juliette Cross

Age Of Gray quotes by Heather Angelika Dooley
In the summer of 1954, after several years in Austin, Minnesota, our family moved across the state to the small, rural town of Worthington, where my dad became regional manager for a life insurance company. To me, at age 7, Worthington seemed a perfectly splendid spot on the earth. ~ Tim O'Brien

Age Of Gray quotes by Francesca Zappia
Some of the shrewdest insight into natural processes have been greeted at the outset by the exclamation 'But that's ridiculous'. ~ Lewis Thomas
Age Of Gray quotes by Lewis Thomas
My autism is a very mild form. It was diagnosed at the age of 25, partly because it wasn't diagnosable as a teenager (this is Asperger's syndrome, specifically). But there were certainly traits within that condition, within the autism spectrum in general, especially at the high functioning end, that I think are best looked at as pluses. ~ Daniel Tammet
Age Of Gray quotes by Daniel Tammet
We have but the memories of past good cheer, we have but the echoes of departed laughter. In vain we look and listen for the mirth that has died away. In vain we seek to question the gray ghosts of old-time revelers. ~ Agnes Repplier
Age Of Gray quotes by Agnes Repplier
He watched the sun rise beyond the grape arbor. In the thin golden light the young leaves and tendrils of the Scuppernong were like Twink Weatherby's hair. He decided that sunrise and sunset both gave him a pleasantly sad feeling. The sunrise brought a wild, free sadness; the sunset, a lonely yet a comforting one. He indulged his agreeable melancholy until the earth under him turned from gray to lavender and then to the color dried corn husks. ~ Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings
Age Of Gray quotes by Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings
At age 77, I need the help of someone with more energy than I can now summon to finish a book. ~ Anne McCaffrey
Age Of Gray quotes by Anne McCaffrey
Well, you do have all those gray hairs." I point to the few silver strands coming through.
"They're not gray," Mom barks at me as she opens her door. "They're strands of glittery goodness. ~ Margaret McHeyzer
Age Of Gray quotes by Margaret McHeyzer
Us women, no matter how crude we are with one another,we must always remember that we have two enemies in common."
The three of us look at each other confused, then back at Ms. Eleanor waiting for her to answer.
"Men," she sighs, still staring off. "And old age. ~ Chelsea Ballinger
Age Of Gray quotes by Chelsea Ballinger
If you ask people, 'What do you think, should we kick kids off their family insurance policy in that 21- to 26-year-old age range?' You go through those ... provisions that are already affecting the everyday lives of Americans, and people don't want to get rid of them. ~ Tim Kaine
Age Of Gray quotes by Tim Kaine
He twisted the heavy gold ring around his finger. It had been in his family for generations, passed down to each eldest child along with the family mission of once again ushering in the Golden Age of Man.
His great-great-grandfather had been the first of their Order to make physical progress toward the ultimate goal: to free the powerful prisoners from the center of the Earth. ~ Lisa Kessler
Age Of Gray quotes by Lisa Kessler
Bruce looked at David and David asked, "Is that Harold?"
He was wearing the same Meadow Brook Basketball jacket and had only a few gray hairs left on his round head. Harold walked up to his two favorite players and exclaimed, "Give me five!" and he extended both hands and the guys lightly slapped his palms, as the other eight ex-players chuckled in the background.
The cylinders started clicking in David's mind as Harold said, "On the other side."
The guys lightly slapped the knuckle side of Harold's hand as David said, "Oh, shit! ~ Phil Wohl
Age Of Gray quotes by Phil Wohl
At the age of twenty six I am in the condition of an aged person - all my old friends are gone ... & my heart fails when I think by how few ties I hold to the world ... ~ Mary Wollstonecraft Shelley
Age Of Gray quotes by Mary Wollstonecraft Shelley
Perception requires imagination because the data people encounter in their lives are never complete and always equivocal. For example, most people consider that the greatest evidence of an event one can obtain is to see it with their own eyes, and in a court of law little is held in more esteem than eyewitness testimony. Yet if you asked to display for a court a video of the same quality as the unprocessed data catptured on the retina of a human eye, the judge might wonder what you were tryig to put over. For one thing, the view will have a blind spot where the optic nerve attaches to the retina. Moreover, the only part of our field of vision with good resolution is a narrow area of about 1 degree of visual angle around the retina's center, an area the width of our thumb as it looks when held at arm's length. Outside that region, resolution drops off sharply. To compensate, we constantly move our eyes to bring the sharper region to bear on different portions of the scene we wish to observe. And so the pattern of raw data sent to the brain is a shaky, badly pixilated picture with a hole in it. Fortunately the brain processes the data, combining input from both eyes, filling in gaps on the assumption that the visual properties of neighboring locations are similar and interpolating. The result - at least until age, injury, disease, or an excess of mai tais takes its toll - is a happy human being suffering from the compelling illusion that his or her vision is sharp and clear.
Leonard Mlodinow
Age Of Gray quotes by Leonard Mlodinow
Lily knew what he meant. She loved places that people had forgotten, like the old gas station rotting on the edge of the forest in Pelt, all gray wood and brown metal. She liked to walk there sometimes and imagine that during tempests the king of the forest, dry leaves swirling around his motorcycle, would skid to a halt and demand unleaded gas from shadowy attendants while a mossy-faced knight sat in his sidecar. ~ M T Anderson
Age Of Gray quotes by M T Anderson
That was the age of great men, doing what was right. ~ Joe Abercrombie
Age Of Gray quotes by Joe Abercrombie
I'm seventy-five now. I also have the peculiar luck of having a sister and brother who are fourteen and sixteen years older than me. Their health is not good. It couldn't be at that age. But their spirits are. Both my brother and my sister are an example to me. ~ Grace Paley
Age Of Gray quotes by Grace Paley
I'm growing fonder of my staff;
I'm growing dimmer in my eyes;
I'm growing fainter in my laugh;
I'm growing deeper in my sighs;
I'm growing careless of my dress;
I'm growing frugal of my gold;
I'm growing wise; I'm growing
yes,
I'm growing old. ~ John Godfrey Saxe
Age Of Gray quotes by John Godfrey Saxe
If you're going to do a memoir, then it's sort of at this age - in your late sixties or seventies - that you do it. I don't understand people who do memoirs when they're 20. I think most people need a little more time than 20 years to become the person they are. In fact, that process of becoming who you are is still ongoing when you get older, where you go, "Let's see where my next 10 years is going to take me." S ~ Grace Coddington
Age Of Gray quotes by Grace Coddington
They stopped thinking with an almost painful relief, stopped seeing; they only breathed and sought each other. They were both in the gray gentle world of a mild hangover of fatigue when the nerves relax in bunches like piano strings, and crackle suddenly like wicker chairs. Nerves so raw and tender must surely join other nerves, lips to lips, breast to breast ... ~ F Scott Fitzgerald
Age Of Gray quotes by F Scott Fitzgerald
I believe a writer is...the scribe-griot of his/her nation. S/he has the power to incite, ignite, excite, pacify, edify, motivate and eliminate others with the slash of a pen, click of a mouse or swipe of a finger. Though coloured by time, class, age, geography, childhood and other factors, a writer crystallises a slice of his/her society's culture, mores and its dark and light truths. A writer makes everything real. ~ Sandra Sealy
Age Of Gray quotes by Sandra Sealy
Now, in the space of a year, we've spent 450 percent more for power than we did the year before, and bought essentially the same amount of power. This year, that number's likely to go up. That can't go on forever and have us continue to be the economic engine for America. ~ Gray Davis
Age Of Gray quotes by Gray Davis
My childhood in Arlington, Va., a middle class suburb of Washington, was uneventful. Ours was a very intellectual family, and we were encouraged to read at a very early age. ~ David Gross
Age Of Gray quotes by David Gross
Spring is singing in my blood today, and the lure of April is abroad on the air. I'm seeing visions and dreaming dreams, Pris. That's because the wind is from the west. I do love the west wind. It sings of hope and gladness, doesn't it? When the east wind blows I always think of sorrowful rain on the eaves and sad waves on a gray shore. When I get old I shall have rheumatism when the wind is east." "And ~ L.M. Montgomery
Age Of Gray quotes by L.M. Montgomery
I found a gray hair one of my testicles the today. No, it wasn't mine, but it's frightening. ~ Dave Attell
Age Of Gray quotes by Dave Attell
I also remember when I watched Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer [1990] at, like, age 15. That scared the crap out of me. Because it didn't operate inside the usual conventions of the horror genre in the way that I could accept. I can accept horny teenager counselors being murdered at camp. But I couldn't accept the derangement of Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer, which was that anyone could be murdered at any moment - whole families, with no build-up music and no meaning. It terrified me. ~ Christopher Bollen
Age Of Gray quotes by Christopher Bollen
America has begun her career at the culminating point of life, as Adam did at the age of thirty. ~ Sophie Swetchine
Age Of Gray quotes by Sophie Swetchine
My children didn't when they were little because I thought that they had to be of a certain age. I hoped they liked me well enough not to want to see me in that sort of a spot. ~ Fay Wray
Age Of Gray quotes by Fay Wray
Despite what some investors say, older age is an advantage in the startup world. You know more about industries and markets, and have ideas for products that the world actually needs and a better ability to motivate and manage than a kid out of school does. ~ Vivek Wadhwa
Age Of Gray quotes by Vivek Wadhwa
Every human being asks pertinent questions regarding how to live, what to believe in, and what we aspire to become. Throughout life, we question what desires and principles to value and prioritize – love, friendship, freedom, happiness, creativity, wealth, security. We make difficult decisions based upon what we trust constitutes ethical behavior. We balance out work and play by considering what a person's time is worth. We encounter both joyful and unpleasant physical experiences. As we age, we modify some of our youthful assumptions and question the existence of a mystical and divine world. We engage in formal and informal educational activities, which edifying foundation support modest or dramatic shifts in our instinctive and learned behavior patterns, and alter our intellectual and emotional perspective. Each person aspires to live honorably and age gracefully despite encountering physical adversity, financial hardships, sickness, or injury. ~ Kilroy J. Oldster
Age Of Gray quotes by Kilroy J. Oldster
In the peculiar fate of people that makes them fat and rich, when this happens very swiftly there is the menace of the dreamy state that plunders their reality. Let's say that anyway old age and death would come, so why shouldn't the passage be comfortable? But this proposal doesn't make a firm mind, in the strange area where things swim too fast. Against this trouble thought may be a remedy; force of person is another one, and money and big-scale lavishness, unpierceable concreteness, organizational deeds. So there are these various remedies and many more, older ones, but you don't actually have full choice among all the varieties, especially those older ones of the invisible world. Most people make do with what they have, and labor in their given visible world, and this has its own stubborn merit. ~ Saul Bellow
Age Of Gray quotes by Saul Bellow
The moment we walk into the suite, Tommy descends on us. "The Queen's on the line. On Skype, Your Grace." Anxiety rings in his voice like the ping of a tapped crystal glass. "She's been waiting. She does'na like to be kept waiting."

I nod briskly. "Have David bring me a scotch."

"Oh, me too!" Henry pipes up.

"He'll have coffee," I tell Tommy.

And I think Henry sticks his tongue out at me behind my back.

I head into the library and he follows, seeming marginally closer to sober - at least he's walking straight and unassisted now. I sit behind the desk and open the laptop. On the screen, my grandmother looks back at me, wearing a pale pink robe, hair in rollers and a hairnet, gray eyes piercing, her expression as friendly as the grim reaper's.

This should be fun.

"Nicholas." She greets me without emotion.

"Grandmother," I return, just as flat.

"Granny!" Henry calls, like a child, coming around the desk into view. Then he proceeds to hug the computer and kiss the screen.

"Mwah! Mwah!"

"Henry, oh, Hen - " My grandmother swats the air with her hands, like he's actually there kissing her.

And I do my damnedest not to laugh at them.

"Mwah!"

"Henry! Remember yourself! My gracious!"

"Mmmmmwah!" He perches, grinning like a fool, on the arm of my chair, forcing me to shift over. "I'm sorry, Grandmother - it's just so good to ~ Emma Chase
Age Of Gray quotes by Emma Chase
The most important thing is to be whatever you are without shame. ~ Rod Steiger
Age Of Gray quotes by Rod Steiger
Through the stillness, snow fell not in skeins but in infinitely layered arabesques, filigree in motion, ornamenting the icy air, of an especially intense white in the dove-gray light of the morning, laying boas on the limbs of leafless trees, ermine collars on the tops of walls, a grace of softness in a hard world. You might have thought it would fall forever, endlessly beautifying all it touched, except for the reminder of the river. When the snowflakes met the undulant water, they ceased to exist. ~ Dean Koontz
Age Of Gray quotes by Dean Koontz
The accidental balance on the side of Progress was far slighter and infinitely more complex and delicate in its adjustments than the people of that time suspected; but that did not alter the fact that it was an effective balance. They did not realize that this age of relative good fortune was an age of immense but temporary opportunity for their kind. They complacently assumed a necessary progress towards which they had no moral responsibility. They did not realize that this security of progress was a thing still to be won or lost, and that the time to win it was a time that passed. They went about their affairs energetically enough, and yet with a curious idleness towards those threatening things. No one troubled over the real dangers of mankind. ~ H.G.Wells
Age Of Gray quotes by H.G.Wells
I loved you when you were a snot-nosed kid, into so much mischief
it's a wonder my hair didn't turn prematurely gray. I loved you when you
were a teenager with long, skinny legs and eyes that broke my heart
every time I looked at you. I love you now that you're a woman who
makes my brain go soft, my legs go weak, and my dick get hard. When
you walk into a room, my heart damn near jumps out of my chest. When
you smile, I feel as if I've won a Nobel Prize. And your eyes still
break my heart. ~ Linda Howard
Age Of Gray quotes by Linda Howard
I don't believe in God. Can you understand that? Look around you man. Cant you see? The clamor and din of those in torment has to be the sound most pleasing to his ear. And I loathe these discussions. The argument of the village atheist whose single passion is to revile endlessly that which he denies the existence of in the first place. Your fellowship is a fellowship of pain and nothing more. And if that pain were actually collective instead of simply reiterative then the sheer weight of it would drag the world from the walls of the universe and send it crashing and burning through whatever night it might yet be capable of engendering until it was not even ash. And justice? Brotherhood? Eternal life? Good god, man. Show me a religion that prepares one for death. For nothingness. There's a church I might enter. Yours prepares one only for more life. For dreams and illusions and lies. If you could banish the fear of death from men's hearts they wouldnt live a day. Who would want this nightmare if not for fear of the next? The shadow of the axe hangs over every joy. Every road ends in death. Or worse. Every friendship. Every love. Torment, betrayal, loss, suffering, pain, age, indignity, and hideous lingering illness. All with a single conclusion. For you and for every one and everything that you have chosen to care for. There's the true brotherhood. The true fellowship. And everyone is a member for life. You tell me that my brother is my salvation? My salvation? Well then damn ~ Cormac McCarthy
Age Of Gray quotes by Cormac McCarthy
And finally, at age seventy, having distinguished himself as a brilliant Secretary of State, an independent President and an eloquent member of Congress, he was to record somberly that his "whole life has been a succession of disappointments. I can scarcely recollect a single instance of success in anything that I ever undertook." Yet ~ John F. Kennedy
Age Of Gray quotes by John F. Kennedy
Of what use is a long life, if we amend so little? Alas, a long life often adds to our sins rather than to our virtue! ~ Thomas A Kempis
Age Of Gray quotes by Thomas A Kempis
The New Age is not one of bells and whistles and mystical special effects. It is not a fantasy state driven by the alignments of planets or the power of crystals, nor a metaphysical rising to higher plains of consciousness by virtue of chanting esoteric mantras. It will not feature the arrival of a thunderbolt-wielding god, ready to set up a final judgment by reviving hordes of old, decayed corpses. The real New Age is a simple, but stunningly profound, awareness that one's Self and all that one encounters are two aspects of the same, singular Essence. ~ Thomas Daniel Nehrer
Age Of Gray quotes by Thomas Daniel Nehrer
Our great tendency in this age is to increase our speed, to run faster, even in the Christian life. In the process our walk with God stays shallow, and our tank runs low on fumes. Intimacy offers a full tank of fuel that can only be found by pulling up closer to God, which requires taking necessary time and going to the effort to make that happen. ~ Charles R. Swindoll
Age Of Gray quotes by Charles R. Swindoll
To spend your time trying to make your body flawless is to waste your time. Even if it appears to match some externalized ideals of perfection for a moment, your physical self will wrinkle and age. Work on your mind. Work on your legacy. ~ Vironika Tugaleva
Age Of Gray quotes by Vironika Tugaleva
The fundamental way to know what's best next - to make good decisions in an age of unlimited options - is to be a person of character. ~ Matt Perman
Age Of Gray quotes by Matt Perman
Nothing is more revealing of an age than its hypocrisies. ~ James Laver
