Without readers, an author's voice is only imagination. ~ Dale Amidei
Reader Appreciation quotes by Dale Amidei
Today is a reader; Tomorrow is a leader ~ Margaret Fuller
Reader Appreciation quotes by Margaret Fuller
He didn't want to please his readers. He wanted to stretch them until they twanged. ~ Martin Amis
Reader Appreciation quotes by Martin Amis
The holy men and women, whose lives are told throughout this book, witness to the fact that the word of God is alive and has the power to transform us. By discovering these saints, readers will learn how to embody Scripture, letting it enlarge their hearts and mold their lives into the image of Christ. ~ Stephen J. Binz
Reader Appreciation quotes by Stephen J. Binz
The first days of January 1942 brought enormous amounts of snow. The reader already knows what snow meant for the clergy. But this time the torture surpassed the bounds of the endurable. At the same time the thermometer hovered between 5 and 15 degrees below zero. From morning till night we scraped, shoveled, and pushed wheelbarrow after wheelbarrow of snow to the brook. The work detail consisted of more than 1,000 clergymen, forced to keep moving by SS men and Capos who kicked us and beat us with truncheons.

We had to make rounds with the wheelbarrows from the assembly square to the brook and back. Not a moment of rest was allowed, and much of the time we were forced to run.

At one point I tripped over my barrow and fell, and it took me a while to get up again. An SS man dashed over and ordered me to turn with the full load. He ran beside me, beating me constantly with a leather strap. When I got to the brook I was not allowed to dump out the heavy snow, but had to make a second complete round with it instead.

When the guard finally went off and I tried to let go of the wheelbarrow, I found that one of my hands was frozen fast to it. I had to blow on it with warm breath to get it free. ~ Jean Bernard
Reader Appreciation quotes by Jean Bernard
I ask the reader to remember that what is most obvious may be most worthy of analysis. Fertile vistas may open out when commonplace facts are examined from a fresh point of view. ~ Lancelot Law Whyte
Reader Appreciation quotes by Lancelot Law Whyte
It feels much better to me to think that an artist is working to show his appreciation of what already has been created than creating things himself. ~ E. J. Hughes
Reader Appreciation quotes by E. J. Hughes
In fact, in one sense one could define compassion as the feeling of unbearableness at the sight of other people's suffering, other sentient beings' suffering. And in order to generate that feeling one must first have an appreciation of the seriousness or intensity of another's suffering. So, I think that the more fully one understands suffering, and the various kinds of suffering that we are subject to, the deeper will be one's level of compassion. ~ Dalai Lama XIV
Reader Appreciation quotes by Dalai Lama XIV
The taste of the apple ... lies in the contact of the fruit with the palate, not in the fruit itself; in a similar way ... poetry lies in the meeting of poem and reader, not in the lines of symbols printed on the pages of a book. What is essential is the aesthetic act, the thrill, the almost physical emotion that comes with each reading. ~ Jorge Luis Borges
Reader Appreciation quotes by Jorge Luis Borges
Poetry should surprise by a fine excess and not by singularity, it should strike the reader as a wording of his own highest thoughts, and appear almost a remembrance. ~ John Keats
Reader Appreciation quotes by John Keats
Alec tilted his head. "You really don't see it do you?"
"See what?" I swallowed out of nervousness. Alec's eyes bore into mine as if he was trying to figure out a piece to some giant puzzle. His gaze made me want to squirm, but I was able to keep myself still.
"How breathtaking you are." His eyes shone with appreciation. "Nat, you're absolutely gorgeous without any help from make up or fancy clothes. ~ Rachel Van Dyken
Reader Appreciation quotes by Rachel Van Dyken
When I was twelve, Uncle Randall looked up long enough to see that I was a reader as well, so he walked me down his hall to a linen-closet door and opened it up onto a wall of paperbacks. There were books behind books, as deep in as I could reach. He told me to take three, and when I was done, bring them back and take three more. ~ Stephen Graham Jones
Reader Appreciation quotes by Stephen Graham Jones
I thought it would be fun to take the kind of character that nobody would like, none of our readers would like, and shove him down their throats and make them like him. ~ Stan Lee
Reader Appreciation quotes by Stan Lee
JOSIAH FRANKLIN and ABIAH his wife, lie here interred. They lived lovingly together in wedlock fifty-five years. Without an estate, or any gainful employment, By constant labor and industry, with God's blessing, They maintained a large family comfortably, and brought up thirteen children and seven grandchildren reputably. From this instance, reader, Be encouraged to diligence in thy calling, And distrust not Providence. He was a pious and prudent man; She, a discreet and virtuous woman. Their youngest son, In filial regard to their memory, Places this stone. J. ~ Benjamin Franklin
Reader Appreciation quotes by Benjamin Franklin
Well… Actually, just read any books you find interesting will do. Even books that seem boring aren't actually that dull. It's just that the reader couldn't find the interesting parts. ~ Yukiya Murasaki
Reader Appreciation quotes by Yukiya Murasaki
Ten long trips around the sun since I last saw that smile, but only joy and thankfulness that on a tiny world in the vastness, for a couple of moments in the immensity of time, we were one. ~ Ann Druyan
Reader Appreciation quotes by Ann Druyan
But if you never passed through a storm, than you'd have no appreciation for the rainbow ~ Elisabeth Grace
Reader Appreciation quotes by Elisabeth Grace
This was one of those special occasions when I could actually feel the inner appreciation of the beauty of the moment passing like an electric current through the brush in my hand. ~ Prince Charles
Reader Appreciation quotes by Prince Charles
each one as it pertains to your ideal reader. If you're not sure, get online and do a little research. Go to Amazon or Goodreads.com and look up books similar to your remaining idea cards. ~ Emlyn Chand
Reader Appreciation quotes by Emlyn Chand
Time changes all things and cultivates even in herself an appreciation of irony, and, therefore, why shouldn't I have changed a trifle? ~ James Branch Cabell
Reader Appreciation quotes by James Branch Cabell
You must find some way to elevate your act of writing into an entertainment. Usually this means giving the reader an enjoyable surprise. Any number of devices will do the job ... These seeming amusements in fact become your 'style.' When we say we like the style of certain writers, what we mean is that we like their personality as they express it on paper. ~ William Zinsser
Reader Appreciation quotes by William Zinsser
If a book I've committed myself to review turns out to be 'disappointing' I make an effort to present it objectively to the reader, including a good number of excerpts from the text, so that the reader might form his or her own opinion independent of my own. ~ Joyce Carol Oates
Reader Appreciation quotes by Joyce Carol Oates
A peaceful mind appreciates the present moment as the living embodiment of naked perfection, rather than a means to future attainment. ~ Eric Micha'el Leventhal
Reader Appreciation quotes by Eric Micha'el Leventhal
Give me a thrill, says the reader,
Give me a kick;
I don't care how you succeed, or
What subject you pick. ~ Philip Larkin
Reader Appreciation quotes by Philip Larkin
Fantasy is easy, all you have to do is this. Here's an interesting culture, here's another interesting culture. What would happen if you put these two cultures in the same world? From there all you have to answer for the reader is, why are these two cultures fighting? And more importantly, why should the reader care? If you can do that you will have a great story on your hands. ~ Shane Porteous
Reader Appreciation quotes by Shane Porteous
In crime books it's possible to chart forensic technology by how well it has to be explained to a reader. In mid-Victorian crime novels fingerprinting has to be explained because it's new. Nowadays it's part of our world and we can simply assume that knowledge if we write about it. ~ Sara Sheridan
Reader Appreciation quotes by Sara Sheridan
Question (from a reader) : Will the Wise Goddess Athena overthrow Zeus and become the ruler of Olympus?
Athena's answer : What an interesting idea ... No, just kidding, Dad. Put away the lightning bolt. ~ Rick Riordan
Reader Appreciation quotes by Rick Riordan
If you think, from this prelude, that anything like a romance is preparing for you, reader, you never were more mistaken. Do you anticipate sentiment, and poetry, and reverie? Do you expect passion, and stimulus, and melodrama? Calm you expectations; reduce them to a lowly standard. Something real, cool, and solid lies before you; something unromantic as Monday morning, when all who have work wake with the consciousness that they must rise and betake themselves thereto. It is not positively affirmed that you shall not have a taste of the exciting, perhaps toward the middle and close of the meal, but it is resolved that the first dish set upon the table shall be one that a Catholic - ay, even an Anglo-Catholic - might eat on Good Friday in Passion Week: it shall be cold lentils and vinegar without oil; it shall be unleavened bread with bitter herbs, and no roast lamb. ~ Charlotte Bronte
Reader Appreciation quotes by Charlotte Bronte
I realized early in my career that precisely what one reader
doesn't like is what another reader loves. Collectively, any writer's audience presents a mishmash of expectations that can never all be met. What one-tenth of my readership may not be crazy about the other nine-tenths savors. The moment you start altering a book or a painting or any type of art as if it's a public collaborative, you crucify its soul. I'd rather irritate a few people and delight a lot than touch no one." ~ Karen Marie Moning ~ Karen Marie Moning
Reader Appreciation quotes by Karen Marie Moning
It is all very well to say that a man is clever, but the reader wants to see examples of it ... ~ Arthur Conan Doyle
Reader Appreciation quotes by Arthur Conan Doyle
A very small class of books have nothing in common say that each admits us to a world of its own that seems to have been going on before we stumbled into it, but which, once found by the right reader, becomes indispensable to him. ~ Philip Zaleski
Reader Appreciation quotes by Philip Zaleski
Suddenly the reader's eyes were filled with tears, and a loving voice whispered in his ear: -Why are you crying if everything in that book isn't true?- And the reader replied: -I know; but what I feel is real. ~ Angel Gonzalez
Reader Appreciation quotes by Angel Gonzalez
Today I must look in the mirror and be thankful for the person who I find staring back at me. For although the reflection is terribly imperfect, and I know that full well, God created it with enough room that one day it would be perfect. And if there is nothing else I can find to be thankful for, let me begin here. ~ Craig D. Lounsbrough
Reader Appreciation quotes by Craig D. Lounsbrough
The rhythm of the heart...beats twice. Thump, thump. Once, first for itself and then once again for the rest of the body. It's a true metaphor for us. Like the heart we must pump life giving love and care for ourselves first, before extending that gift out to others. The heartbeat of every worthwhile relationship begins with a healthy, humble understanding and appreciation of our own personal self worth. When we do this the power to truly love and appreciate others pulsates fluidly and freely into all those we warmly choose to share our lives with. ~ Jason Versey
Reader Appreciation quotes by Jason Versey
Wealthy is not about accumulating money into banks/pockets, not about having multi-properties to count of the atmospheric knowns, "it is when you make others sorrounding you to live a mult - health, happier and balanced life converging to the wealth you have indeed reflecting your available resources that enhences their appreciative earnings". (Getting and Giving). Use your wealth to enrich others indeed. ~ Wilson M. Mukama
Reader Appreciation quotes by Wilson M. Mukama
I've seen too many relationships that are based on expectation rather than appreciation. ~ Sean Aeon
Reader Appreciation quotes by Sean Aeon
It isn't only the Utopians who become a little more immortal with every blade they take away. It isn't only they who delight in seeing unicorns and wingrays in the street, who gaze through Griffincloth into enchanting nowheres, and ride the shuttles to the brave, bare Moon, which their efforts make a little less bare every day. We all enjoy these wonders, all of us, all Hives, all Hiveless. Reader, you should not have barred Apollo Mojave from the Pantheon. ~ Ada Palmer
Reader Appreciation quotes by Ada Palmer
Most readers look at the photograph first. If you put it in the middle of the page, the reader will start by looking in the middle. Then her eye must go up to read the headline; this doesn't work, because people have a habit of scanning downwards. However, suppose a few readers do read the headline after seeing the photograph below it. After that, you require them to jump down past the photograph which they have already seen. Not bloody likely. ~ David Ogilvy
Reader Appreciation quotes by David Ogilvy
None of the things I have mentioned can make a foolish man wise or a bad book good. But when they are properly used they remind us that the act of reading is an act of confidence, and almost of conspiracy, between one human being and another. That conspiracy can get nowhere, and that confidence can be betrayed. But if all goes well the reader may put down the book at the end and say what the author - and this author is no exception - most wants to hear:'I learned a lot from your book, but what is more to the point is I had a very good time. ~ John Russell
Reader Appreciation quotes by John Russell
Tate won't like it that we kept the truth from him."
"I'm resigned to that," Cecily said half-truthfully. "He would never have turned to me, anyway, even if he knew he had mixed blood. I've been living on dreams too long already."
"If you go away from him, he'll follow you," Leta said unexpectedly. "There's a tie, a bond, between you that can't be broken."
"There's Audrey," Cecily pointed out.
"Honey, there have been other Audreys," she replied. "He never brought them home or talked about them. They were loose relationships, and not very many at all-never any who were innocent."
"Audrey's lasted a long time."
Leta searched her eyes. "If he's sleeping with Audrey, Cecily, why can't he keep his hands off you?"
Cecily's heart turned over twice. "Wh…what?"
"Simple question," came the droll reply. She grinned at the younger woman's embarrassment. "When you came in the kitchen that last time you were here, before Tate left, your mouth was swollen and you wouldn't look straight at him. He was badly shaken. It doesn't take a mind-reader to know what was going on in my living room. It isn't like Tate to play games with innocent girls."
"He doesn't think I am, anymore," she returned curtly. "I let him think that Colby and I are…very close."
"Uh-oh."
She scowled. "Uh-oh, what?"
"The only thing that's kept him away from you this long is that he didn't want to take advantage of you," Leta replied. "If he thinks you're even slight ~ Diana Palmer
Reader Appreciation quotes by Diana Palmer
Great communicators have an appreciation for positioning. They understand the people they're trying to reach and what they can and can't hear. They send their message in through an open door rather than trying to push it through a wall. ~ John P. Kotter
Reader Appreciation quotes by John P. Kotter
The problems presented by difficult individuals contribute to your growth and evolution - another reason for filling yourself with gratitude, appreciation, and love! ~ Susan Barbara Apollon
Reader Appreciation quotes by Susan Barbara Apollon
I think, basically, what I'm good for is reading - a lot. I think I'll always be more of a reader than a writer, definitely. There are sooo many books in the world I haven't read, sometimes I feel as if they're all piled on top of my head weighing me down and saying, 'Hurry up.' ~ Helen Oyeyemi
Reader Appreciation quotes by Helen Oyeyemi
I'm not a big crime reader, but I'm reading Michael Connelly's 'The Reversal.' I'm going back to his novels. I'm also reading Keith Richards' 'Life.' I'm always fascinated by the transition from the innocent late '60s and early '70s and the youth culture becoming an industry. ~ Jo Nesbo
Reader Appreciation quotes by Jo Nesbo
All I can guess is that when I write, I forget that it's not real. I'm living the story, and I think people can read that sincerity about the characters. They are real to me while I'm writing them, and I think that makes them real to the readers as well. ~ Stephenie Meyer
Reader Appreciation quotes by Stephenie Meyer
To be honest, I'm not that much of a reader of Korean fiction, since so little is translated. ~ Chang-rae Lee
