You have been feeling the way your society programmed you to feel. You have been thinking the way your society programmed you to think. You have been behaving the way your society programmed you to behave. Even your desires are not your own, original desires. They are all programmed in you by your society. Have you done anything original in your life? ~ Abhijit Naskar
Novel Deeds quotes by Abhijit Naskar

Whether it's a letter, song lyrics, part of a novel, or instructions on how to fix a kitchen sink, it's writing. You keep your craft honed, you acquire the discipline to finish things. You turn into a self-taskmaster. ~ Jimmy Buffett

And the nice thing about writing a novel is you take your time, you sit with the character sometimes nine years, you look very deeply at a situation, unlike in real life when we just kind of snap something out. ~ Sandra Cisneros
Novel Deeds quotes by Sandra Cisneros
I can't change the past, and I don't think I would. I don't expect to be understood. I like what I've written, the stories and two novels. If I had to give up what I've written in order to be clear of this disease, I wouldn't do it. ~ Harold Brodkey
Novel Deeds quotes by Harold Brodkey
@The darkest and most complex novel in (the Murdoch) series. ~ Maureen Jennings
Novel Deeds quotes by Maureen Jennings
I'm not the girl who inspires men to commit acts of heroism. In real life those girls speak much more quietly and breathe a lot louder than I do. I'm not the girl who strikes men speechless with her beauty. Really really not. I don't even know how to flutter my eyelashes. But that's life. Not romance-novel life just real life. ~ Becca Wilhite
Novel Deeds quotes by Becca Wilhite
Such is life, here today, gone tomorrow! Nothing goes with one, except one's merit and demerit; good and evil deeds follow one even after death. ~ Sarada Devi
Novel Deeds quotes by Sarada Devi
Respect earned through fear instead of deeds, was not truly respect. ~ Tamara Rose Blodgett
Novel Deeds quotes by Tamara Rose Blodgett
I feel like I've got a novel in me somewhere, but that's something ... I was just talking to a buddy of mine about it, who's a writer as well, and he's nearly done with his first novel, and it's taken him 11, 12 years to do it. And I can totally understand; it's a long process. ~ Corey Taylor
Novel Deeds quotes by Corey Taylor
She paused and met his gaze straight on. "You should be seeing someone your own age, Troy Lee."

"Please don't start that bullshit again. It's not the issue and you know it."

"Really. What, pray tell, is the issue?"

"We've been out one time and already you're looking for me to cut and run." He shook his head. "You're doing it again. Speeding ahead, looking for where you think you're going, instead of seeing what's along the way. You gotta learn to slow down and enjoy the ride, Angel. ~ Linda Winfree
Novel Deeds quotes by Linda Winfree
God takes men's hearty desires and will, instead of the deed, where they have not power to fulfill it; but he never took the bare deed instead of the will. ~ Richard Baxter
Novel Deeds quotes by Richard Baxter
In working well, if travail you sustain, Into the wind shall lightly pass the pain; But of the deed the glory shall remain, And cause your name with worthy wights to reign. In working wrong, if pleasure you attain, The pleasure soon shall fade, and void as vain; But of the deed throughout the life the shame Endures, defacing you with foul defame. ~ Nicholas Grimald
Novel Deeds quotes by Nicholas Grimald

Novel Deeds quotes by Jonah Goldberg
Working on a green screen set, yeah, it's almost like reading from a novel, taking those black words and creating a world around you. ~ Caterina Scorsone
Novel Deeds quotes by Caterina Scorsone
This dazzling, unput-downable debut novel proves beyond a doubt that Dan Wells has the gift. His teenage protagonist is as chilling as he is endearing. More John Wayne Cleaver, please. ~ F. Paul Wilson
Novel Deeds quotes by F. Paul Wilson
In her novel Regeneration, Pat Barker writes of a doctor who 'knew only too well how often the early stages of change or cure may mimic deterioration. Cut a chrysalis open, and you will find a rotting caterpillar. What you will never find is that mythical creature, half caterpillar, half butterfly, a fit emblem of the human soul, for those whose cast of mind leads them to seek such emblems. No, the process of transformation consists almost entirely of decay. ~ Rebecca Solnit
Novel Deeds quotes by Rebecca Solnit
A hadith in Sahih Muslim says: "Allah does not look at your appearance or your wealth but at your hearts and deeds. (no. 2654)"

These verses put the whole issue of dress into a different perspective: one that reminds believers not to forget that what counts for Allah is their piety. This message is a strong antidote to capitalism's materialist culture that places success firmly in the material world, and that teaches people to be a slave to their desires, and to make pleasure their end goal ("Obey Your Thirst" proclaims a soft-drink commercial). Teenagers in the West can be killed for their Nike shoes, an indication of just how far capitalism has corrupted the human soul. ~ Katherine Bullock
Novel Deeds quotes by Katherine Bullock
Was love ever easy for anyone? If less complicated, would this make it less appreciated? Perhaps love was difficult for good reason. Perhaps everything on God's green earth was the result of a flawless plan, even that which seemed most muddled. ~ Roy L. Pickering Jr.
Novel Deeds quotes by Roy L. Pickering Jr.
The hallmarks of the noir style are fear, guilt and loneliness, breakdown and despair, sexual obsession and social corruption, a sense that the world is controlled by, malignant forces preying on us, a rejection of happy endings and a preference for resolutions heavy with doom, but always redeemed by a breathtakingly vivid poetry of word (if the work was a novel or story) or image (if it was a movie). ("Introduction") ~ Francis M. Nevins Jr.
Novel Deeds quotes by Francis M. Nevins Jr.
Suffice it to say I was compelled to create this group in order to find everyone who is, let's say, borrowing liberally from my INESTIMABLE FOLIO OF CANONICAL MASTERPIECES (sorry, I just do that sometimes), and get you all together. It's the least I could do.

I mean, seriously. Those soliloquies in Moby-Dick? Sooo Hamlet and/or Othello, with maybe a little Shylock thrown in. Everyone from Pip in Great Expectations to freakin' Mr. Rochester in Jane Eyre mentions my plays, sometimes completely mangling my words in nineteenth-century middle-American dialect for humorous effect (thank you, Sir Clemens). Many people (cough Virginia Woolf cough) just quote me over and over again without attribution. I hear James Joyce even devoted a chapter of his giant novel to something called the "Hamlet theory," though do you have some sort of newfangled English? It looks like gobbledygook to me. The only people who don't seek me out are like Chaucer and Dante and those ancient Greeks. For whatever reason.

And then there are the titles. The Sound and the Fury? Mine. Infinite Jest? Mine. Proust, Nabokov, Steinbeck, and Agatha Christie all have titles that are me-inspired. Brave New World? Not just the title, but half the plot has to do with my work. Even Edgar Allan Poe named a character after my Tempest's Prospero (though, not surprisingly, things didn't turn out well for him!). I'm like the star to every wandering bark, the arrow of every compass, the buzzard to every haw ~ Sarah Schmelling
Novel Deeds quotes by Sarah Schmelling
Don't say I'm lucky. Ever. ~ Faith Erin Hicks
Novel Deeds quotes by Faith Erin Hicks
Holy hell, Trev! What kind of move was that?"
Trevor leaned over her with a big smile on his face. "You really thought I would give up that easy? I am a geek, Cassie, not a friggin' wimp. It's called the internet and how to videos. ~ Cecilia Aubrey & Chris Almeida
Novel Deeds quotes by Cecilia Aubrey & Chris Almeida
Is This Happiness"

High up in the Hollywood Hills taking violet pills
Writing all of my songs about my cheap thrills
You're a hard man to love and I'm
A hard woman to keep track of
You like to rage, don't do that
You want your way, you make me so mad
Got your gun, I've got my dad

Is this happiness?
Is this happiness?
Is this happiness?
Is this happiness?

High up in the Hollywood Hills crushing violet pills
You've been trying to write a novel about your cheap thrills
You think you're Hunter S. Thompson
I think you're fucking crazy as the day's long
Man to man, heart to heart
I love you but you drive me so far
Wish you well on that star

Is this happiness?
Is this happiness?
Is this happiness?
Is this happiness?

Witch Hazel, Witch Hazel
Betrayal, betrayal
One gun on the table
Headshot if you're able

Is this happiness?
Is this happiness?
Is this happiness?
Is this happiness? ~ Lana Del Rey
Novel Deeds quotes by Lana Del Rey
How can you care about the image of a landscape, when you show by your deeds that you don't care for the landscape itself? ~ William Morris
Novel Deeds quotes by William Morris
When I want to read a novel, I write one. ~ Benjamin Disraeli
Novel Deeds quotes by Benjamin Disraeli
Critics who do the weekly recap, I find that kind of absurd. That's like reviewing chapters in a novel. ~ Terence Winter
Novel Deeds quotes by Terence Winter
Besides being witty and funny and maybe the best novel ever written, it's also the most perfect romance in all of literature and nothing in life can ever measure up, so I spend my life limping in its shadow. ~ Shannon Hale
