I garden a lot in LA, so fashion consists of boots, work pants and T-shirts, unless I'm going out. ~ Kyle MacLachlan
La Mujer Boricua quotes by Kyle MacLachlan
Anxiety and stress-related mental dysfunction is the plague of modern-day society. Millions of people are tormented by anxious thinking and the consequent distress this brings, irrespective of whether they live in a mansion or a bed-sit or whether they earn millions or are living on the breadline. This would indicate that external circumstances cannot prevent or cause pathological anxiety or free people from negative emotions. ~ Christopher Dines
La Mujer Boricua quotes by Christopher Dines
We should only affect compassion, and carefully avoid having any. ~ Francois De La Rochefoucauld
La Mujer Boricua quotes by Francois De La Rochefoucauld
I only do children's films now! I think when you go to LA some people feel you've defected a little bit and that's not really the case. Ideally, I would love to work here and to work in America. That's in an ideal world. In fact, I came back to Britain recently to do an ITV1 drama that will be out in April for a couple of months! But I'm flying back to LA to do a pilot season. So, to work in both places is great. ~ Ashley Jensen
La Mujer Boricua quotes by Ashley Jensen
However different men's fortunes may be, there is always something or other that balances the ill and the good, and makes all even at last. ~ Francois Alexandre Frederic, Duc De La Rochefoucauld-Liancourt
La Mujer Boricua quotes by Francois Alexandre Frederic, Duc De La Rochefoucauld-Liancourt
Any meal at the front was an exercise in war-time ingenuity and devotion of the lower classes for their officers. The Petite Marmite a la Thermit was from beef-broth cubes, the tinned Canadian salmon was called Saumon de Tin A & Q Sauce. The Epaule d'Agneau Wellington, N.Z. was army ration lamb, and the terrine of foie gras aux truffes was a can of foie gras that I had bought from the French commanding general. There was a salad of fresh lettuce from somewhere (no one asked in what or whose fertilizer it had been grown in since we would all soon be dead anyway) and the Macedoine de Fruits a la Quatre Bas was a can of mixed fruit. Then fresh strawberries soaked in Cognac. All the usual wines starting with an amontillado, Pommery Extra Sec, Chateau Steenworde Claret, Graham's Five Crowns Port, Bisquit Dubouche Grande Champagne Cognac, Brandy and a Waterloo Cup. ~ Jeremiah Tower
La Mujer Boricua quotes by Jeremiah Tower

We wish to constitute all the happiness, or, if that cannot be, the misery of the one we love. ~ Jean De La Bruyere
La Mujer Boricua quotes by Jean De La Bruyere
I am hyper vigilant and would be dangerous if threatened ... If someone broke into my house or attacked me in the street, it's THEM I would fear for ... But as Yo La Tengo recently put it so succinctly: I am not afraid of you and I will beat your ass. ~ Haven Kimmel
La Mujer Boricua quotes by Haven Kimmel
We easily forget our faults when no one knows them but ourselves. ~ Francois De La Rochefoucauld
La Mujer Boricua quotes by Francois De La Rochefoucauld
One of the greatest and also the commonest of faults is for men to believe that, because they never hear their shortcomings spoken of, or read about them in cold print, others can have no knowledge of them. GEORG CHRISTOPH LICHTENBERG, The Reflections of Lichtenberg We are often more agreeable through our faults than our good qualities. ~ Francois De La Rochefoucauld
La Mujer Boricua quotes by Francois De La Rochefoucauld

Man often thinks he is in control when he is being controlled, and while his mind is striving in one direction his heart is imperceptibly drawing him in another. ~ Francois De La Rochefoucauld
La Mujer Boricua quotes by Francois De La Rochefoucauld
Kingsley nodded. 'Of course. Sophia always did say wisdom had to be earned. ~ Melissa De La Cruz
La Mujer Boricua quotes by Melissa De La Cruz
Linguistic and musical sound systems illustrate a common theme in the study of music-language relations. On the surface, the two domains are dramatically different. Music uses pitch in ways that speech does not, and speech organizes timbre to a degree seldom seen in music. Yet beneath these differences lie deep connections in terms of cognitive and neural processing. Most notably, in both domains the mind interacts with one particular aspect of sound (pitch in music, and timbre in speech) to create a perceptually discretized system. Importantly, this perceptual discretization is not an automatic byproduct of human auditory perception. For example, linguistic and musical sequences present the ear with continuous variations in amplitude, yet loudness is not perceived in terms of discrete categories. Instead, the perceptual discretization of musical pitch and linguistic timbre reflects the activity of a powerful cognitive system, built to separate within-category sonic variation from differences that indicate a change in sound category. Although music and speech differ in the primary acoustic feature used for sound category formation, it appears that the mechanisms that create and maintain learned sound categories in the two domains may have a substantial degree of overlap. Such overlap has implications for both practical and theoretical issues surrounding human communicative development.

In the 20th century, relations between spoken and musical sound systems were la ~ Aniruddh D. Patel

It's more than ok to say no to the people and places that harm your peace. ~ Nikki Rowe
La Mujer Boricua quotes by Nikki Rowe
I think so many great artists are flocking to LA because the downtown art scene is so vibrant, there is cheap living and you can really flourish as an artist there. There is an unbelievably supportive and really smart, talented theatre audience in LA full of young, hungry, vibrant people. It's something that sort of makes me think of what New York must have been like in its downtown theater scene in the 1980s - before my time. ~ Jon Bernthal
La Mujer Boricua quotes by Jon Bernthal
On prend l'essence de la vie dans la ville." "One captures the essence of life in the city," the French said. To be in Paris was to have the world at one's feet - "le monde à ses pieds. ~ David McCullough

La Mujer Boricua quotes by Oscar De La Renta
If a fast doesn't include any sacrifices, then it's not a fast. The discomfort is where the magic happens. Life zips along, unchecked and automatic. We default to our lifestyles, enjoying our privileges tra la la, but a fast interrupts that rote trajectory. Jesus gets a fresh platform in the empty space where indulgence resided. ~ Jen Hatmaker
La Mujer Boricua quotes by Jen Hatmaker

"We are with Lucifer now; we have always been false." "I don't believe it for one second," Kingsley whispered, looking into her eyes tenderly. ~ Melissa De La Cruz
La Mujer Boricua quotes by Melissa De La Cruz
The principle of free speech is no new doctrine born of the Constitution of the United States. It is a heritage of English-speaking peoples, which has been won by incalculable sacrifice, and which they must preserve so long as they hope to live as free men. ~ Robert M. La Follette, Sr.
