The human sensory system sends the brain about eleven million bits of information each second.9 However, anyone who has ever taken care of a few children who are all trying to talk to you at once can testify that your conscious mind cannot process anywhere near that amount. The actual amount of information we can handle has been estimated to be somewhere between sixteen and fifty bits per second. ~ Leonard Mlodinow

Kwie Leonard quotes by Thomas Leonard
I love Tom [Waits] for the same reason I love Leonard Cohen, which is that they are both one-offs, templates; they both seemed old, or at least dressed old when they were young; both kind of lived their careers backwards. ~ Sylvie Simmons
Kwie Leonard quotes by Sylvie Simmons
Some people meet me sometimes and they sit down and talk to me for a while and ask me my name and say, 'Oh, you're the guy'. ~ Leonard Little

I was born in Paris, and my mother was a French teacher, but then I rebelled against my upbringing and studied Spanish in school. So now I just speak bad French and bad Spanish. ~ Lydia Leonard

I started out of course with Hemingway when I learned how to write. Until I realized Hemingway doesn't have a sense of humor. He never has anything funny in his stories. ~ Elmore Leonard

My abandoned narcotics have abandoned me. ~ Leonard Cohen
Kwie Leonard quotes by Leonard Cohen
[R]esearch on perceiver-induced constraint reveals that people do not always account for situational constraints on behavior, even when they themselves have constructed the situation. Thus, perpetrators could have focused on the degraded and pathetic state of their victims as justification for both their past and their future victimization, even though the perpetrators were actually responsible for their wretched state. ~ Leonard S. Newman
Kwie Leonard quotes by Leonard S. Newman
Decades of behavioral blunders and ill-conceived marriages and businesses run amok had left next to nothing by the time Leonard was in high school. He'd wangled himself an engineering scholarship to Cornell and then a job with Dow Chemical during a time he referred to, reverently, as the Dawn of the Absorbency Revolution. ~ Cynthia D'Aprix Sweeney
Kwie Leonard quotes by Cynthia D'Aprix Sweeney
Success is survival. ~ Leonard Cohen
Kwie Leonard quotes by Leonard Cohen
The true Church is born from above. In it there are no sinners, and outside of it no saints. No man can put another's name on its member's roll; and no man can cross another's name off that roll. ~ Leonard Ravenhill
Kwie Leonard quotes by Leonard Ravenhill

Kwie Leonard quotes by Leonard Gardner
When you stop thinking about yourself all the time, a certain sense of repose overtakes you. ~ Leonard Cohen
Kwie Leonard quotes by Leonard Cohen
The Talmud expresses subtle relationship in an apocryphal story of a dialogue between God and Abraham. God begins by chiding Abraham: „If it wasn´t for Me, you wouldn´t exist."Lord, and for that I am very appreciative and grateful. However, if it wasn´t for me, You wouldn´t be known. ~ Leonard Shlain
Kwie Leonard quotes by Leonard Shlain
Politicians, bureaucrats, editors, new commentators, 'economists' teachers,' and other word artists who denounce private enterprise and praise socialism are their own worst enemies ... these attackers are unwittingly destroying the sources of their own livelihood. They kill the geese that lay the golden eggs - and don't know it! ~ Leonard Read
Kwie Leonard quotes by Leonard Read
In the absence of any concrete evidence. I plump for Leonard Stock as the murderer. First, because he's the most unlikely person, and as anyone who has ever read a murder story knows, it's always the most unlikely person who turns out to have done the deed--and fifty thousand authors can't be wrong. ~ M.M. Kaye
Kwie Leonard quotes by M.M. Kaye
Some mediocre ladies in influential positions are usually embarrassed by an unusual book and so prefer the old familiar stuff which doesn't embarrass them and also doesn't give the child one slight inkling of beauty and reality. This is most discouraging to a creative writer, like you, and also to a hardworking and devoted editor like me. I love most of my editor colleagues but I must confess that I get a little depressed and sad when some of their neat little items about a little girl in old Newburyport during the War of 1812 gets [sic] adopted by a Reading Circle. ~ Leonard S. Marcus
Kwie Leonard quotes by Leonard S. Marcus
If the Enchanted Forest were in a movie, they'd always be playing Bob Dylan or Van Morrison or maybe even Leonard Cohen in the background. Greta thought about that a lot. Sometimes when she was taking a shower or helping her mom in the restaurant, she'd imagine what kind of scene it would be and what would be playing to set the mood. ~ Emma Straub
Kwie Leonard quotes by Emma Straub
As a member of Congress, I believe it is the responsibility of those elected to represent the people at every level of government to ensure that our government works to ensure that every person who wants gainful employment has it. ~ Leonard Boswell
Kwie Leonard quotes by Leonard Boswell
To send a child to rot in the prison of Cuba for the alleged sake of his own well-being is criminal hypocrisy. ~ Leonard Peikoff
Kwie Leonard quotes by Leonard Peikoff
I don't think you can write novels on the road. You need a certain stability. ~ Leonard Cohen
Kwie Leonard quotes by Leonard Cohen
Pigskin crackling on my thumb, nummy nummy I hate pain. ~ Leonard Cohen
Kwie Leonard quotes by Leonard Cohen
I have also heard and read various accounts of why they [Sheldon Leonard and Carl Reiner] liked me. My favorites? I wasn't too good-looking, I walked a little funny, and I was basically kind of average and ordinary. I guess my lack of perfection turned out to be a winning hand. Let that be a lesson for future generations. ~ Dick Van Dyke
Kwie Leonard quotes by Dick Van Dyke
Our God is a consuming fire. He consumes pride, lust, materialism, and other sin. ~ Leonard Ravenhill
Kwie Leonard quotes by Leonard Ravenhill

From 1887 to 1898, he served as a medical officer in a number of positions, the last of which was as the personal physician to President William McKinley. In 1898 at the beginning of the war with Spain, he was given command of the 1st Volunteer Cavalry. The regiment was soon to be known as the "Rough Riders." In 1898 he was appointed the Military Governor of Santiago de Cuba. In 1920, as a retired Major General, Wood ran as the Republican candidate for the presidency of the United States, losing to Warren Harding. In 1921 following his defeat, General Wood accepted the post of Governor General of the Philippines. He held this position from 1921 to 1927, when he died of a brain tumor in Boston, on 7 August 1927, at 66 years of age after which he was buried, with full honors, in Arlington National Cemetery. ~ Hank Bracker
Kwie Leonard quotes by Hank Bracker
Writing screenplays is not my business. I've written half a dozen, and maybe half of those were made. But it was never a satisfying experience. It was just work. You're an employee. You would be told what to do. Studio execs would cross out my dialogue and put in their dialogue. ~ Elmore Leonard
Kwie Leonard quotes by Elmore Leonard
When I was a child, I wanted to be a jockey. I love horses, but it's not practical to have one in London. I also wanted to be an accountant, which isn't glamorous at all, but my dad was one, and I quite liked maths. ~ Lydia Leonard
