I don't feel so sad when somebody dies, Julio, because they fly away to explore the stars and planets. When it's our turn we join them in exploring the universe. ~ Gilbert Hernandez
Julio quotes by Gilbert Hernandez
Art will not disappear into nothingness; it will disappear into everything ~ Julio Garcia Espinosa
Julio quotes by Julio Garcia Espinosa
Memory weaves and traps us at the same time according to a scheme in which we do not participate: we should never speak of our memory, for it is anything but ours; it works on its own terms, it assists us while deceiving us or perhaps deceives up to assist us. ~ Julio Cortazar
Julio quotes by Julio Cortazar
People in love look into each other's souls, and it is that feeling that I try to capture when I sing. ~ Julio Iglesias
Julio quotes by Julio Iglesias
That's how it is, Rocamadour: in Paris we're like fungus, we grow on the railings of staircases, in dark rooms with greasy smells, where people make love all the time and then fry some eggs and put on Vivaldi records, light cigarettes ... and outside there are all sorts of things, the windows open onto the air and it all begins with a sparrow or a gutter, it rains a lot here, rocamadour, much more than in the country, and things get rusty ... we don't have many clothes, we get along with so few, a good overcoat, some shoes to keep the rain out, we're very dirty, everybody is dirty and good-looking in Paris, Rocamadour, the beds smell of night and deep sleep, dust and books underneath. ~ Julio Cortazar
Julio quotes by Julio Cortazar
We know that attention acts as a lightning rod. Merely by concentrating on something one causes endless analogies to collect around it, even penetrate the boundaries of the subject itself: an experience that we call coincidence, serendipity – the terminology is extensive. My experience has been that in these circular travels what is really significant surrounds a central absence, an absence that, paradoxically, is the text being written or to be written. ~ Julio Cortazar
Julio quotes by Julio Cortazar
Never tell the people who fooled you your secrets, for they will look like real fools in the future. ~ Julio Bonilla
Julio quotes by Julio Bonilla
In the twentieth century nothing can better cure the anthropocentrism that is the author of all our ills than to cast ourselves into the physics of the infinitely large (or the infinitely small). ~ Julio Cortazar
Julio quotes by Julio Cortazar
I'm going to think only about you, it's the only way I'm conscious of myself... ~ Julio Cortazar
Julio quotes by Julio Cortazar
Memory is a mirror that scandalously lies. ~ Julio Cortazar
Julio quotes by Julio Cortazar
A short story relies on those values that make poetry and jazz what they are: tension, rhythms, inner beat, into unforeseen within foreseen parameters ~ Julio Cortazar
Julio quotes by Julio Cortazar
When I moved to New York to act I was no good at working restaurants - hosting, waiting, bussing, dishwashing - I wasn't good at any aspect. But I did have a guitar. So I would sing 'Me and Julio Down by the Schoolyard,' but you would only hear the chorus because the train comes by every 30 seconds. ~ Michael Weatherly
Julio quotes by Michael Weatherly
Just as we do not today differentiate between the Roman Republic and the imperial period of the Julio-Claudians when we think of the Roman Empire, so in the future no one will bother to make a distinction between the British Empire-led and the American-Republic-led periods of English-speaking dominance between the late-eighteenth and the twenty-first centuries. It will be recognized that in the majestic sweep of history they had so much in common
and enough that separated them from everyone else
that they ought to be regarded as a single historical entity, which only scholars and pedants will try to describe separately. ~ Andrew Roberts
Julio quotes by Andrew Roberts
For one unbelievable moment, the emptiness - the ache - that terrible hollow of desolation I'd lived with all this time was just – gone. ~ Julio Alexi Genao
Julio quotes by Julio Alexi Genao
People say life is short.
life's not short - it's long.
the memory of a human being: that's what's short. ~ Julio Alexi Genao
Julio quotes by Julio Alexi Genao
And there's blues in my bed, 'cause l'm sleepin' by myself. ~ Julio Cortazar
Julio quotes by Julio Cortazar
Sera loaded the new ammunition and held up the gun. "I bet I can hit closer to the bulls-eye than you can."
Her victory came to him on a flash, right down to the cute little dance he was sure was last popular in the nineties. "Sucker bet, sunshine. Never wager with a precog."
"So cheat." She grinned. "You haven't even hear the terms yet. If you win, I'll let you buy me a pretty dress and take me out for a fancy dinner."
"And if I lose?"
"I get a cheap bar, beer, and hot wings, and dirty sex in the bathroom."
Julio cleared his throat, took the gun from her and winked. "Like I said, sucker bet."
"Uh-huh." As she stepped behind him, she trailed her fingers up his arm. "I'm bad news, mister. I hope you can handle me."
"I'll try." He lined up a shot, squeezed the trigger and snorted when the bullet went wide. "I told you I suck at this."
She laughed and retrieved the gun to line up her shot with adorable concentration that furrowed her brows. Her shot wasn't perfect, but it winged the target, and her victory dance was just as cute as it had been in his vision. ~ Moira Rogers
Julio quotes by Moira Rogers
Oh, life, life!" Bastidas complained, sipping his drink. "What is life? A little flame at the tip of a candle, exposed to a strong wind. ~ Julio Ramon Ribeyro
Julio quotes by Julio Ramon Ribeyro
What most people call loving consists of picking out a woman and marrying her. They pick her out, I swear, I've seen them. As if you could pick in love, as if it were not a lightning bolt that splits your bones and leaves you staked out in the middle of the courtyard. They probably say that they pick her out because-they-love-her, I think it's just the siteoppo. Beatrice wasn't picked out, Juliet wasn't picked out. You don't pick out the rain that soaks you to a skin when you come out of a concert. ~ Julio Cortazar
Julio quotes by Julio Cortazar
Go ahead, deny up and down that the delicate act of turning the doorknob, that act which may transform everything, is done with the indifferent vigor of a daily reflex. See you later, sweetheart. Have a good day.
Tighten your fingers around a teaspoon, feel its metal pulse, its mistrustful warning. How it hurts to refuse a spoon, to say no to a door, to deny everything that habit has licked to a suitable smoothness. How much simpler to accept the easy request of the spoon, to use it, to stir the coffee. ~ Julio Cortazar
Julio quotes by Julio Cortazar
We went around without looking for each other, but knowing we went around to find each other. ~ Julio Cortazar
Julio quotes by Julio Cortazar
Time is born in the eyes, everybody knows that. ~ Julio Cortazar
Julio quotes by Julio Cortazar
Thus they went along, Punch and Judy, attracting each other and repelling, as love must do if it is not to end up as calendar art or a pop tune. ~ Julio Cortazar
Julio quotes by Julio Cortazar
Explanation is a well-dressed error. ~ Julio Cortazar
Julio quotes by Julio Cortazar
I know you've forgotten me, but I'll remember you as long as I live. ~ Julio Alexi Genao
Julio quotes by Julio Alexi Genao
One of the many ways of contesting level-zero, and one of the best, is to take photographs, an activity in which one should start becoming adept very early in life, teach it to children since it requires discipline, aesthetic education, a good eye and steady fingers. ~ Julio Cortazar
Julio quotes by Julio Cortazar
I didn't know what to do.
I knew what I wanted to do. I knew what I was supposed to do.
But I didn't know what I was going to do. ~ Julio Alexi Genao
Julio quotes by Julio Alexi Genao
A hand of smoke took his hand, started him downward, if it was downward, showed him a centre, if it was a centre, put it in his stomach, where the vodka was softly making crystal bubbles, some sort of infinitely beautiful and desperate illusion which some time back he had called immortality. ~ Julio Cortazar
Julio quotes by Julio Cortazar
...'You are like tango music itself, Kapka.' Julio says, catching his breath. 'You're the universal woman- wherever you go, you will always be a local and a stranger at the same time. ~ Kapka Kassabova
Julio quotes by Kapka Kassabova
I have respected women from the beginning of my life. ~ Julio Iglesias

Every time it starts to get cool, I mean in the middle of autim, I start gettin nutty ideas like I was thinkin about what was forein and diffrent, like for exsample how I'd like to turn into a swallow and get away and fly to countrys where it gets hot, or be an ant so's I could get deep into a cave and eat the stuff I stored away durin the summer or be a snake like what they got in the zoO, the ones they keep lockt up in glass cages thats heated so's they don't get stiff from the cold, which is what happens to poor human beans who cant buy no close cause the price is to high, and cant keep warm cause theys no keroseen, no coal, no wood, no fule oil and besides theys no loot, cause when you go around with bocoo bread you can go into any bar and get some sneaky pete that can be real warmin, even tho it aint good to overdo it cause if you overdos it it gets to be a bad habbit and bad habbits is bad for your body just like they is for youre selfrespeck, and when you start goin downhill cause your actin bad in everythin, they aint nobody or nothin can stop you from endin up a stinkin piece of human garbidge and they never gone give you a hand to haul you up outen the dirty muck you rollin around in, not even if you was a eaglE when you was young and could fly up and over the highest hills, but when you get old you like a highflyin bomber thats lost its moral engines and fall down outen the sky. I jes hope what I been writin down hear do somebody some good so he take a good look at ~ Julio Cortazar
Julio quotes by Julio Cortazar

Julio quotes by Julio Cortazar
All I have to do is to look at you to know that with you, I am going to soak my soul ~ Julio Cortazar
Julio quotes by Julio Cortazar
Wild Times
Since Mexico accepted communism as a legitimate political party during the 1920's and allowed refugees greater flexibility of thought, it became a haven from persecution. Moreover, living in Mexico was less costly than most countries, the weather was usually sunny and no one objected to the swinging lifestyle that many of the expats engaged in. It was for these reasons that Julio Mella from Cuba, Leon Trotsky from Russia and others sought refuge there. It also attracted many actors, authors and artists from the United States, many of whom were Communist or, at the very least were "Fellow Travelers" and had leftist leanings. Although the stated basic reason for the Communist Party's existence was to improve conditions for the working class, it became a hub for the avant-garde, who felt liberated socially as well as politically. The bohemian enclave of Coyoacán now a part of Mexico City, where Frida Kahlo was born, was located just east of San Angel which at the time was a district of the ever expanding City. It also became the gathering place for personalities such as the American actor Orson Welles, the beautiful actress Dolores del Río, the famous artist Diego Rivera and his soon-to-be-wife, "Frida," who became and is still revered as the illustrious matriarch of Mexico. ~ Hank Bracker
Julio quotes by Hank Bracker
Happy are those who choose, those who accept being chosen, the handsome heroes, the handsome saints, the perfect escapists. ~ Julio Cortazar
Julio quotes by Julio Cortazar
I don't believe in frontiers, and I don't believe in races or nationalities. ~ Julio Iglesias
Julio quotes by Julio Iglesias
Hate often separates those who ought to aid one another, since they are tending toward the same goal, and sympathy binds men together who are forced to do battle with one another. ~ Guglielmo Ferrero
Julio quotes by Guglielmo Ferrero
Sometimes people have a difficult time understanding my English. ~ Julio Iglesias
Julio quotes by Julio Iglesias
How could I be sure of these teeangers' national origin? Was I using names of origin to give them a place instead, when it was clear that they were moving toward a new language? ~ Julio Ortega
Julio quotes by Julio Ortega
Growing your own fruit at home is a wonderful treat and a huge money saver. Home grown food of any kind tastes delicious and being able to go outside and pick fresh fruit from a tree is something everyone should experience. ~ Julio Belson

At a very young age, I was influenced enormously by Julio Cortazar or Carlos Fuentes. In that literature, there's always an exploration of different perspectives, points of view. ~ Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu
Julio quotes by Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu
I am I, I am he. We are, but I am I, first I am I, I will defend being I until I am unable to fight any longer. I am I, Atalia. Ego. Yo. A professional degree, an Argentine, a scarlet fingernail, pretty sometimes, big dark eyes, I. Atalia Donosi, I. Yo. Yo-yo, windlass and hawser. Funny. ~ Julio Cortazar
Julio quotes by Julio Cortazar
I sometimes longed for someone who, like me, had not adjusted perfectly with his age, and such a person was hard to find; but I soon discovered cats, in which I could imagine a condition like mine, and books, where I found it quite often. ~ Julio Cortazar

Julio quotes by Julio Cortazar
I'm such a jerk; it had never occurred to me that when we look at a photo from the front, the eyes reproduce exactly the position and the vision of the lens; it's these things that are taken for granted and it never occurs to anyone to think about them. ~ Julio Cortazar
Julio quotes by Julio Cortazar

Julio Cesar Chavez will never be ready to fight me. ~ Sergio Martinez
Julio quotes by Sergio Martinez
Now that I think about it, it seems to me that's what Idiocy is: the ability to be enthusiastic all the time about anything you like, so that a drawing on the wall does not have to be diminished by the memory of the frescoes of Giotto in Padua. ~ Julio Cortazar
Julio quotes by Julio Cortazar
I think it is vanity to want to put into a story anything but the story itself. ~ Julio Cortazar
Julio quotes by Julio Cortazar

Julio quotes by Julio Cortazar
The unusual is only found in a very small percentage, except in literary creations, and that is exactly what makes literature. ~ Julio Cortazar

Julio quotes by Julio Frenk
I've played a lot in Las Vegas in my life. ~ Julio Iglesias
Julio quotes by Julio Iglesias
But what is memory if not the language of feeling, a dictionary of faces and days and smells which repeat themselves like the verbs and adjectives in a speech, sneaking in behind the thing itself, into the pure present, making us sad or teaching us vicariously ... ~ Julio Cortazar
Julio quotes by Julio Cortazar
I was asked a series of questions.
What did you see? Why are there no files in the video archives? How did the assassin escape?

Julio quotes by Julio Iglesias
I drink too much. I smoke too much. I eat like a college student, and I don't exercise enough. I do drugs and I give my love to boys who hate me a little bit and I don't always wash my hands after I clean the litterbox. But I'm absolutely certain the thing that will one day stop my heart for good is the inchoate rage I feel when I read over something I've published and discover a typo. ~ Julio Alexi Genao
Julio quotes by Julio Alexi Genao
Julio was willing to bet that Officer "I've Seen It All" Mac had never seen a horde of black-skinned demons wearing rags and armor and carrying swords and spears, dragging a naked woman and a chubby boy by a rope. No, he was willing to bet his left nut that even officer Mac had never seen such a thing. ~ Brom
Julio quotes by Brom
There was a time when I thought a great deal about the axolotls. I went to see them in the aquarium at the Jardin des Plantes and stayed for hours watching them, observing their immobility, their faint movements. Now I am an axolotl. ~ Julio Cortazar
Julio quotes by Julio Cortazar
If I were a moviemaker I'd set about hunting sunsets. ~ Julio Cortazar
Julio quotes by Julio Cortazar
You're like a witness. You're the one who goes to the museum and looks at the paintings. I mean the paintings are there and you're in the museum too, near and far away at the same time. I'm a painting. Rocamadour is a painting. Etienne is a painting, this room is a painting. You think that you're in the room but you're not. You're looking at the room, you're not in the room. ~ Julio Cortazar
Julio quotes by Julio Cortazar
He who wishes to preserve, often destroys, so that virtue seems vice, and vice seems virtue. ~ Guglielmo Ferrero
Julio quotes by Guglielmo Ferrero
As to your last assignment, I did make up a recipe inspired by my name. Although Julio has told me before it means "faith," I don't think I understood why my mother might have wanted to name me that until this year. And so I decided to make a remix of flambé shrimp à la Emoni, because what better way to take a leap of faith than to set something on fire and trust it will not only come out right, but that it will be completely delicious? ~ Elizabeth Acevedo
Julio quotes by Elizabeth Acevedo
What's the deal with the bossman?" Urian asked him.
Alexion shrugged. "I don't know. He came in last night with a book, went to his room to read, I suppose, and then he came out here this morning and has been playing ... those songs ever since."
Those songs were ballads, which Acheron never played. God-smack, Sex Pistols, TSOL, Judas Priest, but not ...
"Is that ... " Urian physically cringed before he spat out the name, "Julio Iglesias?"
"Enrique."
Urian grimaced in horror. "I didn't even know he knew any mellow shit. Dear gods ... is he ill?"
"I don't know. In nine thousand years, I've never seen him like this before."
Urian shuddered. "I'm beginning to get scared. This has to be a sign of the Apocalypse. If he breaks out into Air Supply, I say we sneeak up on him, drag him outside and beat the holy shit out of him. ~ Sherrilyn Kenyon
Julio quotes by Sherrilyn Kenyon
I realized that searching was my symbol, the emblem of those who go out at night with nothing in mind, the motives of a destroyer of compasses. ~ Julio Cortazar
Julio quotes by Julio Cortazar
I am sure they could use a dragon right now."

Julio quotes by Kyle Robert Shultz
'Without the help of mathematics,' the wise man continued, 'the art could not advance and all the sciences would perish.' ~ Julio Cesar De Mello E Souza
Julio quotes by Julio Cesar De Mello E Souza
I envy Johnny and at the same time I get sore as hell watching him destroy himself, misusing his gifts, and the stupid accumulation of nonsense the pressure of his life requires. I think that if Johnny could straighten out his life, not even sacrificing heroin, if he could pilot that plane better, maybe he'd end up worse, maybe go crazy altogether, or die, but not without having played it to the depth, what he's looking for in those sad a posteriori monlogues, in his retelling of great, fascinating experiences which, however, stop right there, in the middle of the road. And all this I back up with my own cowardice, and maybe basically I want Johnny to wind up all at once like a nova that explodes into a thousand pieces and turns astronomers into idiots for a whole week, and then one can go off to sleep and tomorrow is another day. ~ Julio Cortazar
Julio quotes by Julio Cortazar
The fantastic breaks the crust of appearance ... something grabs us by the shoulders to throw us outside ourselves. I have always known that the big surprises await us where we have learned to be surprised by nothing, that is, where we are not shocked by ruptures in the order. ~ Julio Cortazar
Julio quotes by Julio Cortazar
I'd removed all but my underclothes, that night I took you home. Took off all the drab corporate synthetics as if stripping my armor to uncover the vulnerable man I was underneath it.
The man who needed to be near you.
I'd pressed my back into your solid length, eyes wet as I fell asleep.
That's why I was calm. ~ Julio Alexi Genao
Julio quotes by Julio Alexi Genao
The only good Monday is an Almost-Tuesday. ~ Julio Alexi Genao
Julio quotes by Julio Alexi Genao
I think we all have a little bit of that beautiful madness that keeps us walking when everything around us is so insanely sane. ~ Julio Cortazar
Julio quotes by Julio Cortazar
Sometimes, you think you have forgotten everything, that the rust and dust of the years have destroyed all the things we once entrusted to their voracious appetite. But all it takes is a noise, a smell, a sudden, unexpected touch, and suddenly the alluvion of time sweeps pitilessly over us, and our memories light up with all the brilliance and fury of a lightning flash ~ Julio Llamazares
Julio quotes by Julio Llamazares
Nowadays, a minister of health cannot consider his or her job done simply by looking at the health care system. It's not enough to have a health policy, you need healthy policies elsewhere. ~ Julio Frenk
Julio quotes by Julio Frenk
What's the purpose of being with someone if they don't change your life? She said that, and Julio was present when she said it: that life only had purpose if you found someone who changed it, who destroyed your life. ~ Alejandro Zambra
Julio quotes by Alejandro Zambra
I feel ashamed tonight that we treated Lennox Lewis the way we did because he gave it all his effort but everytime Don King's involved, you can expect a draw to come from somewhere. Ask Pernell Whitaker about the Julio Cesar Chavez fight ... I thought Evander Holyfield gave a very game effort, but you win some and you lose some ... tonight I'm upset because Lennox Lewis did not lose and it was not a draw. It's as simple as that. ~ Roy Jones Jr.
Julio quotes by Roy Jones Jr.
For me the thing that signals a great story is what we might call its autonomy, the fact that it detaches itself from its author like a soap bubble blown from a clay pipe. ~ Julio Cortazar
Julio quotes by Julio Cortazar
Meaning arises from loving life, not from goals or narratives. ~ Julio Olalla
Julio quotes by Julio Olalla
My life in the past 20 years has changed. I don't count days anymore, I count the hours, the minutes, the seconds. ~ Julio Iglesias
Julio quotes by Julio Iglesias
If you look more broadly at injury, so it includes also accidents, it's the largest cause of death in children of school age in Mexico. It's an enormous problem. ~ Julio Frenk
Julio quotes by Julio Frenk
The short-story writer knows that he can't proceed cumulatively, that time is not his ally. His only solution is to work vertically, heading up or down in literary space. ~ Julio Cortazar
Julio quotes by Julio Cortazar
My wife is Dutch and very independent. She never wanted or needed to be married. ~ Julio Iglesias
Julio quotes by Julio Iglesias
Undertown. You maybe don't remember it. Your clothes don't smell of it. Of the filth, the rot. The stinking hell of vapor and grime. The warren of hovels and the millions of us starving in them, defending whatever pathetic collection of things we call 'ours' - sometimes to the death, yet still doing little more than waiting to die. ~ Julio Alexi Genao
Julio quotes by Julio Alexi Genao
I don't tweet very much. I still believe in the mystery of an artist. I believe in going out when I'm ready to sell my product. A lot of artists are out there every day. But I remember the Julio Iglesiases, the Jose Joses - and it was about the music. ~ Romeo Santos
Julio quotes by Romeo Santos
The more a book is like an opium pipe, the more the Chinaman reader is satisfied with it and tends to discuss the quality of the drug rather than its lethargic effects. ~ Julio Cortazar
Julio quotes by Julio Cortazar
Love comes to everybody in many different ways. Attraction is always the first thing, no? But love must be more than that. It must be magic. ~ Julio Iglesias
