Blackwater had won $1 billion in "diplomatic security" contracts through the State Department alone.81 ~ Jeremy Scahill
Diplomatic Security quotes by Jeremy Scahill
A young officer in my organization, Lyle Ahmad, was a solid, olive-skinned former marine with a trim crew cut. He was a clone, a close protection officer. I had met Ahmad when he was a marine guarding the U.S. embassy in Warsaw and I was an agent with the State Department's protection and investigation arm, Diplomatic Security, where I worked before joining my present outfit. He was quiet and sharp and boasted impressive multiple-language skills. He was a rising star in our organization. Driving ~ Jeffery Deaver
Diplomatic Security quotes by Jeffery Deaver
The business of banking ought to be simple. If it is hard it is wrong. The only securities which a banker, using money that he may be asked at short notice to repay, ought to touch, are those which are easily saleable and easily intelligible. ~ Walter Bagehot
Diplomatic Security quotes by Walter Bagehot
The security staff boasted that a squirrel could not get onto the grounds without their knowledge. However, they could not explain a family of deer that seemed to come and go as they pleased. ~ Richard Turner
Diplomatic Security quotes by Richard Turner
When one of the security people asked if Rogan had threatened Forsberg, the Scourge of Mexico looked at him for a moment and condescended to explain that he hadn't threatened anyone. He had been moving thru the hallways with a purpose because he had someplace to be and if they had a problem identifying the difference between that and him actually threatening someone, he would be happy to demonstrate. They decided not to question him further after that. ~ Ilona Andrews
Diplomatic Security quotes by Ilona Andrews
Love is not our only emotional need. Psychologists have observed that among our basic needs are the need for security, self-worth, and significance. Love, however, interfaces with all of those. If I feel loved by my spouse, I can relax, knowing that my lover will do me no ill. I feel secure in her presence. I may face many uncertainties in my vocation. I may have enemies in other areas of my life, but with my spouse I feel secure. ~ Gary Chapman
Diplomatic Security quotes by Gary Chapman
Gee, color her suspicious, but if he kept this up, she was going to start thinking he wasn't a mall security guard at all. ~ Elizabeth Bevarly
Diplomatic Security quotes by Elizabeth Bevarly
If community is for growth of the personal consciousness and freedom, and not just for the collective consciousness, with the security it brings, there will be times when some people find themselves in conflict with their community ...
This happens particularly when someone is called to personal growth and is in a group which has become lukewarm, mediocre and closed in on itself. The loneliness and anguish felt by this person can lead to a more intimate and mystical union with God. The person no longer finding support from the group cries out to God, "Let those who thirst come to me and drink," says Jesus. Those who suffer in this way find a new strength and love in the heart of God. Their communion with the father deepens.
The authenticity of their communion with God is shown as they continually try to love their brothers and sisters with greater fidelity, without judgment or condemnation. ~ Jean Vanier
Diplomatic Security quotes by Jean Vanier
A man's own good breeding is the best security against other people's ill manners. ~ Lord Chesterfield
Diplomatic Security quotes by Lord Chesterfield
Beijing would indeed consider vetoing any American effort to sanction Iran at the Security Council. ~ Li Zhaoxing
Diplomatic Security quotes by Li Zhaoxing
Outside of a few national security issues like treason that the Constitution lays out, we don't need federal crimes, and we don't need federal prisons. We need state crimes and state prisons. ~ Rob Woodall
Diplomatic Security quotes by Rob Woodall
People are afraid of things they don't understand. They don't know how to relate. It threatens their security, their existence, their career, image. ~ Bill Laswell
Diplomatic Security quotes by Bill Laswell
The situation in the West Bank and Gaza involves a military occupation amid urban guerrilla warfare, analogous to the British security measures in Northern Island, that hopefully will end with a cease-fire. ~ Jack Schwartz
Diplomatic Security quotes by Jack Schwartz
This book is an essay in what is derogatorily called "literary economics," as opposed to mathematical economics, econometrics, or (embracing them both) the "new economic history." A man does what he can, and in the more elegant - one is tempted to say "fancier" - techniques I am, as one who received his formation in the 1930s, untutored. A colleague has offered to provide a mathematical model to decorate the work. It might be useful to some readers, but not to me. Catastrophe mathematics, dealing with such events as falling off a height, is a new branch of the discipline, I am told, which has yet to demonstrate its rigor or usefulness. I had better wait. Econometricians among my friends tell me that rare events such as panics cannot be dealt with by the normal techniques of regression, but have to be introduced exogenously as "dummy variables." The real choice open to me was whether to follow relatively simple statistical procedures, with an abundance of charts and tables, or not. In the event, I decided against it. For those who yearn for numbers, standard series on bank reserves, foreign trade, commodity prices, money supply, security prices, rate of interest, and the like are fairly readily available in the historical statistics. ~ Charles P. Kindleberger
Diplomatic Security quotes by Charles P. Kindleberger
Every time you write an email, it is in the public domain. There are all these ways where security is not as good as people believe. ~ Peter Thiel
Diplomatic Security quotes by Peter Thiel
The American people must be willing to give up a degree of personal privacy in exchange for safety and security. ~ Louis Freeh
Diplomatic Security quotes by Louis Freeh
But perhaps the most important difference between Conservatives and Liberals can be found in the area of national security. Conservatives saw the savagery of 9/11 in the attacks and prepared for war. Liberals saw the savagery of the 9/11 attacks and wanted to prepare indictments and offer therapy and understanding for our attackers. In the wake of 9/11, Conservatives believed it was time to unleash the might and power of the United States military against the Taliban. ~ Karl Rove
Diplomatic Security quotes by Karl Rove
Life can only be understood backwards; but it must be lived forwards. ~ Soren Kierkegaard
Diplomatic Security quotes by Soren Kierkegaard
The art of war is at once comprehensive and complicated; ... it demands much previous study; and ... the possession of it, in its most improved and perfect state, is always a great moment to the security of a nation. This, therefore, ought to be a serious care of every government; and for this purpose, an academy, where a regular course of instruction is given, is an obvious expedient, which different nations have successfully employed. ~ George Washington
Diplomatic Security quotes by George Washington
Americans understand that our security is enhanced when the United States is trusted and respected in the world. ~ Susan Rice
Diplomatic Security quotes by Susan Rice
Israel would not do that, both because we cannot afford to be accused by the world of aggression and because we cannot, for security and social reasons, absorb in our midst a substantial Arab population. ~ Moshe Sharett
Diplomatic Security quotes by Moshe Sharett
He flat out needed Chuck, like a kid with a security blanket. ~ James Dashner
Diplomatic Security quotes by James Dashner
Room is outfitted with onyx as a security precaution," he continued, his dark brown eyes focused on mine again. "In case you somehow are able to tap into the Source or attack any member of my staff. With hybrids, we never know the extent of your abilities."
Right now I didn't think I'd be able to sit up without assistance, let alone go ninja on anyone. ~ Jennifer L. Armentrout
Diplomatic Security quotes by Jennifer L. Armentrout
I have no problem with the security ... It's something that must be done for the times in which we live. Safety first. ~ Aaron Brown
Diplomatic Security quotes by Aaron Brown
Trusting in Something Other Than God Another way you Edge God Out is when you trust in something other than the character and unconditional love of God as your source of security and self-worth. When you put your sense of security and self-worth in your intellect, your position, your performance, your possessions, or your business and personal contacts, you're counting on things that are at-risk and temporary. Instead, you must place your trust in that which is sure and eternal: God's care for you and the wisdom He provides about living in harmony with the rest of His creation. ~ Kenneth H. Blanchard
Diplomatic Security quotes by Kenneth H. Blanchard
There used to be a middle class here – recently. We also get reports that in the past, Gazan flower shipments to Europe were delayed for two weeks at the Erez crossing for security inspections. You can imagine the value of two-week-old cut flowers in the European market, so that market dried up. And then the bulldozers come and take out people's vegetable farms and gardens. What is left for people? Tell me if you can think of anything. I can't. ~ Rachel Corrie
Diplomatic Security quotes by Rachel Corrie
Proximity to the device tempted him, a muted siren's call to undress, open the coffin-like lid and climb into the lukewarm saline solution, to plug his interface jack in, sheathe his genitals in the waste catch and sink down into the glorious rush of jacking in. He missed the freefall adrenaline of consciousness translated into pure data, of his body rendered in liquid mercury, shifting and changing with his every thought. He missed the thrill of cracking databank security, of running from anti-intrusion software and other hackers. ~ Gary A. Ballard
Diplomatic Security quotes by Gary A. Ballard
There is more than just grandeur in this view of life, bleak and cold though it can seem from under the security blanket of ignorance. There is deep refreshment to be had from standing up and facing straight into the strong keen wind of understanding: Yeats's 'Winds that blow through the starry ways'. ~ Richard Dawkins
Diplomatic Security quotes by Richard Dawkins
And let us be frank, the security threats that emanate from our ports come from foreign cargo. ~ Dana Rohrabacher
Diplomatic Security quotes by Dana Rohrabacher
By its vigilance and by coordinating its efforts throughout the peninsula, it may be argued that the Inquisition checked the seeds of heresy before they could be sown. This view, however, is both naïve and optimistic. At no time in history have governments been able to identify and eliminate security threats before they happen. ~ Henry Kamen
Diplomatic Security quotes by Henry Kamen
For he that is delighted by concord, And who abideth in the Law, Falleth not from Security. ~ Gautama Buddha
Diplomatic Security quotes by Gautama Buddha
Independance grows out of a child's faith that her source of security will always be there when she needs it. ~ Kathleen Huggins
Diplomatic Security quotes by Kathleen Huggins
The full retirement age is 67 and the lifespan is 80, so when they first conceived Social Security, they didn't think they were going to be paying benefits for 13-15 years. That's one of the reasons why this pyramid scheme isn't working. ~ Joe Heck
Diplomatic Security quotes by Joe Heck
It strains credulity to suggest that an agency charged with gathering intelligence affecting the national security does not have an 'intelligence interest' in drone strikes, even if that agency does not operate the drones itself. ~ Merrick Garland
Diplomatic Security quotes by Merrick Garland
The only security of all is in a free press. ~ Thomas Jefferson
Diplomatic Security quotes by Thomas Jefferson
Any growth requires a temporary loss of security. ~ Madeline Hunter
Diplomatic Security quotes by Madeline Hunter
By the time 1987 rolled around, the Sunset Strip was absolutely crazy. Fucking madness. One day, I watched Bobby Dall from Poison beat the shit out of this guy with a steal pipe.
[This] guy kept covering up their flyers with his band's shit. Finally Bobby caught him at it. He followed him in his car to a Quik Stop, and then he just fucking ambushed the guy. Beat him senseless with a steel pipe. 'Who the fuck are you to cover my band flyer!' he kept screaming.
It was brutal. Absolutely brutal.
And someone else goes to the guy afterward: 'Hey, you just got your ass beat by a chick.'
~ Big John, Ratt & Poison Security. ~ Stephen Pearcy
Diplomatic Security quotes by Stephen Pearcy
To think of food as a weapon, or of a weapon as food, may give an illusory security and wealth to a few, but it strikes directly at the life of all.

The concept of food-as-weapon is not surprisingly the doctrine of a Department of Agriculture that is being used as an instrument of foreign political and economic speculation. This militarizing of food is the greatest threat so far raised against the farmland and the farm communities of this country. If present attitudes continue, we may expect government policies that will encourage the destruction, by overuse, of farmland. This, of course, has already begun. To answer the official call for more production -- evidently to be used to bait or bribe foreign countries -- farmers are plowing their waterways and permanent pastures; lands that ought to remain in grass are being planted in row crops. Contour plowing, crop rotation, and other conservation measures seem to have gone out of favor or fashion in official circles and are practices less and less on the farm. This exclusive emphasis on production will accelerate the mechanization and chemicalization of farming, increase the price of land, increase overhead and operating costs, and thereby further diminish the farm population. Thus the tendency, if not the intention, of Mr. Butz confusion of farming and war, is to complete the deliverance of American agriculture into the hands of corporations. ~ Wendell Berry
