I understand that smoking is vaguely inappropriate in certain situations. You know, like an orphanage, cancer ward, whatever. ~ Greg Proops
Cancer Ward quotes by Greg Proops
How can you, through my plain and simple words, possible experience the joy i felt when Robinson jumped into that Los Angeles pool, sledded on the golden sand of the Great Dunes, or kissed me in an ancient temple? How can you understand what Robinson meant to me? His laugh was like a peal of bells. He really did consider Slim Jims to be their own food group. When he played the guitar and sang, whether it was in the cancer ward or in Tompkin's Square Park, everyone stopped to listen. He was magic ~ James Patterson
Cancer Ward quotes by James Patterson
Education doesn't make you smarter. ~ Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn
Cancer Ward quotes by Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn
Right now, I've got the weight of several worlds on my shoulders. My best friend is living in a cancer ward, and there's nothing I can do for him. The Serpents have hired the Jester to spark race riots with faked news stories, and I don't know how to smoke him out. My enemies are hiding all around, watching everything I do, and I can't find them. For the first time in months I find myself in the familiar, paralyzing grip of overwhelming depression. ~ Mark Waid
Cancer Ward quotes by Mark Waid
Cancer seems a high price to pay for an innocuous-looking habit. You get into smoking and you are robbed of the last 25 years of your life. Some cocky souls will say, 'Ah yes, but they are the worst 25 years.' Nobody feels like that in a cancer ward. There are no cocky souls in a cancer ward. But there's a lot of pain, not just of the excruciating physical kind that they shoot you full of morphine to smother. There are a lot of tears. All round. It is hard to say goodbye to the people you love. And it's scary. Cancer wards have a way of knocking the cockiness out of you. And for what? Another cigarette? ~ Tony Parsons
Cancer Ward quotes by Tony Parsons
The meaning of existence was to preserve untarnished, undisturbed and undistorted the image of eternity which each person is born with - as far as possible.
Like a silver moon in a calm, still pond. ~ Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn
Cancer Ward quotes by Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn
The guy could sell sunlamps in a cancer ward. ~ Justin Cronin
Cancer Ward quotes by Justin Cronin
... I have no knowledge of the world so I read in peace. ~ Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn
Cancer Ward quotes by Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn
You're looking through the kaleidoscope of God and seeing God's face in so many ways, as friends, as strangers, passersby, country roads, jammed freeways, the cancer ward, the maternity ward - all the faces of God surround you at all times. ~ Frederick Lenz
Cancer Ward quotes by Frederick Lenz
Anyone I think who - that would go through a cancer ward and would see the result of what smoking does, would never, ever think of smoking is sexy again. ~ Joe Eszterhas
Cancer Ward quotes by Joe Eszterhas
Cancer Boy probably has the saddest, noblest, sweetest heart of any character I've ever done. ~ Bruce McCulloch
Cancer Ward quotes by Bruce McCulloch
Surely it wasn't possible that Vin diPietro was the first assignment.
"Hello?" DiPietro waved. "You in there?"
Nah, Jim thought. Can't be. That would be above and beyond any call of duty.
Over the guy's shoulder, the commercial that was on the TV suddenly showed a price of $49.99-no, $29.99, with a little red arrow that ... considering where Vin was standing, poined right at his head.
"Sh*t, no" Jim muttered. This was the guy?
On the Tv screen, some woman in a pink bathrobe smiled up at the camera and mouthed, Yes, it is! ~ J.R. Ward
Cancer Ward quotes by J.R. Ward
I'd like to share a revelation that I've had during my time here. It came to me when I tried to classify your species. I realized that you're not actually mammals. Every mammal on this planet instinctively develops a natural equilibrium with the surrounding environment, but you humans do not. You move to an area, and you multiply, and multiply, until every natural resource is consumed. The only way you can survive is to spread to another area. There is another organism on this planet that follows the same pattern. Do you know what it is? A virus. Human beings are a disease, a cancer of this planet, you are a plague, and we are the cure. ~ Agent Smith
Cancer Ward quotes by Agent Smith
Before all the little mean things she told me gathered and gathered and lodged like grit in a skinned knee. ~ Jesmyn Ward
Cancer Ward quotes by Jesmyn Ward
I'm a Cancer, which means I'm maternal and emotional. So in relationships I'm screwed. ~ Lindsay Lohan
Cancer Ward quotes by Lindsay Lohan
There were silences in my head. I could abandon myself completely to the pleasure of multiple relationships, to the beauty of the day, to the joys of the day. It was as if a cancer in me had ceased gnawing me. The cancer of introspection. ~ Anais Nin
Cancer Ward quotes by Anais Nin
An amicus curiae brief in Roe from the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists and several other medical groups observed that "a woman suffering from heart disease, diabetes or cancer whose pregnancy worsens the underlying pathology may be denied a medically indicated therapeutic abortion under the statute because death is not certain."8 ~ Katha Pollitt
Cancer Ward quotes by Katha Pollitt
I liked you, cop. From the moment I met you. No ... not the first moment. I wanted to kill you when I first met you. But then I liked you. A lot. ~ J.R. Ward
Cancer Ward quotes by J.R. Ward
Place in the fall of 1979, with Drs. Geisler, Hoehner, Nicole, and Radmacher in attendance. It was the consensus of those present that we should not undertake to modify a statement that so many people had signed, both at the summit meeting and afterward. But
in order to ward off misunderstandings and to provide an exposition of the position advocated by the ICBI, it was thought desirable to provide a ~ R.C. Sproul
Cancer Ward quotes by R.C. Sproul
These are the dilemmas for cancer patients. Who and what to believe? A particular treatment is not foolproof, or as many medical experts remind us, is not math, with a fixed and certain outcome. ~ Tom Brokaw
Cancer Ward quotes by Tom Brokaw
Farren had discovered before she traveled back to her home in Jersey that Ashley had been diagnosed with stage three stomach cancer and it was pretty aggressive. ~ Nako
Cancer Ward quotes by Nako
You're only as good as your last fight. It's just the way things are. It's the way that the sport is built. ~ Andre Ward
Cancer Ward quotes by Andre Ward
God washes the eyes by tears until they can behold the invisible land where tears shall come no more. O love! O affliction! ye are the guides that show us the way through the great airy space where our loved ones walked; and, as hounds easily follow the scent before the dew be risen, so God teaches us, while yet our sorrow is wet, to follow on and find our dear ones in heaven. ~ Henry Ward Beecher
Cancer Ward quotes by Henry Ward Beecher
Supporting segregation need not be racist. One can believe in segregation and believe in equality of the races. ~ Ward Connerly
Cancer Ward quotes by Ward Connerly
It's one thing knowing you have people cheering you on, yet another to know they've walked in your footsteps. ~ Christine Magnus Moore
Cancer Ward quotes by Christine Magnus Moore
Given the number of small cancers they did find and the number that they reasoned they had missed...the researchers concluded that virtually everybody would have some evidence of thyroid cancer if examined carefully enough. ~ H. Gilbert Welch
Cancer Ward quotes by H. Gilbert Welch
With jealousy, a parasite takes root in your heart. It becomes a cancer that eats away at your soul. ~ Haruki Murakami
Cancer Ward quotes by Haruki Murakami
Men strengthen each other in their faults. Those who are alike associate together, repeat the things which all believe, defend and stimulate their common faults of disposition, and each one receives from the others a reflection of his own egotism. ~ Henry Ward Beecher
Cancer Ward quotes by Henry Ward Beecher
What happened with cancer was that I just became a body. There was nothing else but body for a month. I was chemo'd and operated on and cut and poked. At first it was really horrifying and scary, and then it was just,Wow. You're in your body. This is body! ~ Eve Ensler
Cancer Ward quotes by Eve Ensler
Though cares and sorrows e'er must come, Though heart be rent, I know that God will give me strength, When mine is spent. ~ Henry Ward Beecher
Cancer Ward quotes by Henry Ward Beecher
There is a temperate zone in the mind, between luxurious indolence and exacting work; and it is to this region, just between laziness and labor, that summer reading belongs. ~ Henry Ward Beecher
Cancer Ward quotes by Henry Ward Beecher
I don't think God have us this anymore than he gives little kids cancer or makes poor people lottery winners.... if anything, he gives us courage to deal. ~ Neal Shusterman
Cancer Ward quotes by Neal Shusterman
So would you like to try on some clothes?" Beth nodded at what was in her arms. "I don't have many dresses but Fritz can get you some."
You know what?" Marissa eyed the blue jeans the queen had on. "I've never worn a pair of pants before."
I've got two pairs here if you want to try them out."
Well, wasn't this a night for firsts. Sex. Arson. Pants. ~ J.R. Ward
Cancer Ward quotes by J.R. Ward
So you'll excuse me if I have to disagree with you. It is not okay-it will not ever be okay-and whereas I'm more than willing to live with the fact that I was a walking, talking lie for decades, the idea that it sacrificed what could have been between us ... is absolutely, positively not okay to me. ~ J.R. Ward
Cancer Ward quotes by J.R. Ward
Seventy-six for an American male was a number on an actuarial chart that includes men who are obese, smokers and inheritors of deadly family genes. ~ Tom Brokaw
Cancer Ward quotes by Tom Brokaw
This is your war now.' I despised myself for the cheesy sentiment, but what else did I have?
'Some war,' he said dismissively. 'What am I at war with? My cancer. And what is my cancer? My cancer is me. The tumors are made of me. They're made of me as surely as my brain and my heart are made of me. It is a civil war, Hazel Graze, with a predetermined winner. ~ John Green
Cancer Ward quotes by John Green
They want to control humankind through what they call selective breeding. The Nazis started it, but now the nwo are continuing it. See, the only way to control population is to first get it back down to manageable size. They're culling the herd, same way the game commission does when deer population gets out of control. That's why we've got diseases like cancer and aids. You telling me that we can put a little goddamn skateboard-looking robot on Mars and have it send pictures back, but we can't find a cure for cancer? There's a cure. You can bet on that, boys. There's a goddamn cure. They just won't release it because cancer helps cut down the population. ~ Brian Keene
Cancer Ward quotes by Brian Keene
Would you render the same level of support to someone who hadn't conscientiously objected, but rather instead rolled a grenade under their line officer in order to neutralize the combat capacity of their unit? ... Conscientious objection removes a given piece of the cannon fodder from the fray; fragging an officer has a much more impactful effect. ~ Ward Churchill
Cancer Ward quotes by Ward Churchill
About thirty years ago, Miss Maria Ward of Huntingdon, with only seven thousand pounds, had the good luck to captivate Sir Thomas Bertram, of Mansfield Park, in the county of Northampton, and to be thereby raised to the rank of a baronet's lady, with all the comforts and consequences of an handsome house and large income. ~ Jane Austen
Cancer Ward quotes by Jane Austen
The best stock a man can invest in, is the stock of a farm; the best shares are plow shares; and the best banks are the fertile banks of a rural stream; the more these are broken the better dividends they pay. ~ Henry Ward Beecher
Cancer Ward quotes by Henry Ward Beecher
Boston is an oasis in the desert, a place where the larger proportion of people are loving, rational and happy. ~ Julia Ward Howe
Cancer Ward quotes by Julia Ward Howe
If you have cancer, the most important single consideration is to get the maximum amount of vitamin B17 into your body in the shortest period of time. This is secondary to the medical skill involved in administering it, which is relatively minimal. ~ Ernst T. Krebs
Cancer Ward quotes by Ernst T. Krebs
Medical journals from 1905 to 1915 are rife with articles on "vibratory massage" and the many things it cures. Weakened hearts and floating kidneys. Hysterical cramp of the esophagus and catarrh of the inner ear. Deafness, cancer, bad eyesight. And lots and lots of prostate problems. A Dr. Courtney W. Shropshire, writing in 1912, was impressed to note that by means of "a special prostatic applicator, well lubricated, attached to the vibrator, introduced to the rectum" he was "able to empty the seminal vesicles of their secretions." Indeedy. Shropshire's patients returned every other day for treatment, no doubt also developing a relationship with the vibration machine. ~ Mary Roach
Cancer Ward quotes by Mary Roach
So what you've actually got is traumatized children. When children are traumatized that affects how they feel about themselves, which is deeply ashamed because a child always believe that it is about himself. So if I am being hurt like this, I got to be a terrible person. Or.. if I was sexually abused, why didn't I fight back, I must be a very weak person. So there's a deep sense of shame.

Then there's tremendous emotional pain that accrues from abuse and neglect. Tremendous emotional pain that is hardly possible for people to bear. Now they have to soothe their pain with substances or other compulsive behaviors.

Then the trauma itself, given that the human brain develops in interaction with the environment, shapes the brain circuitry in such a way that the person will be more likely to find relief from the drugs. So the very phisiology of the brain is affected by early trauma.

So then you take these traumatized people and you make their habit illegal... It is not illegal to drink yourself to death. It is not illegal to make yourself sick with emphyzema or lung cancer by means of cigarettes. But it is illegal to use other substances. So now you take these abused, traumatized people you place them outside the law, you put them in jails and you hound them all their lives, treating them like criminals and bad people and failures and rejects and less-than-human. And then we wonder how come they don't get better.

So.. it is a self-perpet ~ Gabor Mate
Cancer Ward quotes by Gabor Mate
She wanted to say something smart and kind, put together some combination of words to reach him where he'd reached her with his. But the thing was, there was more courage in these revelations of his than she had ever shown anyone, and in a world that was full of taking and cruelty, he was fucking breaking her heart with what he was giving her. ~ J.R. Ward
Cancer Ward quotes by J.R. Ward
A babe is a mother's anchor. ~ Henry Ward Beecher
Cancer Ward quotes by Henry Ward Beecher
The difference between perseverance and obstinacy is, that one often comes from a strong will, and the other from a strong won't. ~ Henry Ward Beecher
Cancer Ward quotes by Henry Ward Beecher
Whatever the rationale, the suppression of unorthodox cancer therapies and the sustained persecution of their proponents by government and colleagues runs counter to freedom of thought, much less freedom of choice. ~ Marilyn Ferguson
Cancer Ward quotes by Marilyn Ferguson
How sickness enlarges the dimension of a man's self to himself! ~ Charles Lamb
Cancer Ward quotes by Charles Lamb
Some scholars compare human biochemistry to an air-conditioning system that keeps the temperature constant, come heatwave or snowstorm. Events might momentarily change the temperature, but the air-conditioning system always returns the temperature to the same set point. Some air-conditioning systems are set at 70 degrees Fahrenheit. Others are set at twenty degrees. Human happiness conditioning systems also differ from person to person. On a scale from one to ten, some people are born with a cheerful biochemical system that allows their mood to swing between levels six and ten, stabilising with time at eight. Such a person is quite happy even if she lives in an alienating big city, loses all her money in a stock-exchange crash and is diagnosed with diabetes. Other people are cursed with a gloomy biochemistry that swings between three and seven and stabilises at five. Such an unhappy person remains depressed even if she enjoys the support of a tight-knit community, wins millions in the lottery and is as healthy as an Olympic athlete. Indeed, even if our gloomy friend wins $50,000,000 in the morning, discovers the cure for both AIDS and cancer by noon, makes peace between Israelis and Palestinians that afternoon, and then in the evening reunites with her long-lost child who disappeared years ago - she would still be incapable of experiencing anything beyond level seven happiness. Her brain is simply not built for exhilaration, come what may. ~ Yuval Noah Harari
Cancer Ward quotes by Yuval Noah Harari
In 2001, my father finally succumbed to the bone cancer that had tortured him for seven years. His last weeks were a terrible, black icing on the cake, the agony, the slow twisting, thinning and snapping of his skeleton. Everything fell apart. ~ Peter Baynham
