Zuleika Santiago quotes by Danny Santiago
People say what distinguishes us from the animals is that we think. Well, then why the hell don't we extend some compassion to those under tremendous duress? There's this whole idea that you work really hard so you can deaden your soul to the universe and enjoy yourself only in ways the Sierra Club will let you. But what about enjoying yourself by getting into the whole melee of poverty and racism and violence and murder and drug addiction? Get in there, roll up your sleeves, and do something! Nobody does it. ~ Jimmy Santiago Baca
Zuleika Santiago quotes by Jimmy Santiago Baca

Zuleika Santiago quotes by Hank Bracker
Americans would have a right to go to war with the Iraqis if we could name one author from Iraq. It disturbs me that we're going to war with somebody we know absolutely nothing about. Name one Iraqi poet, one Iraqi woman activist, one Iraqi singer. Name one Iraqi novelist. You can't. And how can you go kill someone you don't know anything about? ~ Jimmy Santiago Baca
Zuleika Santiago quotes by Jimmy Santiago Baca
At this point, a faerie woman came twirling through. She had leaves in her updo and was swathed in ribbons and ivy and not much else. She tripped on a trailing line of ivy and Alec caught her.
"Good reflexes!" she said brightly. "Also great arms. Would you be interested in a night of tumultuous forbidden passion, with an option to extend to seven years?"
"Um, I am gay," Alec said.
He was not used to saying that casually, to any random person. It was strange to say it, and feel both relief and a shadow of his old fear, twined together.
Of course, the declaration might not mean much to faeries. The faerie woman accepted it with a shrug, then looked over at Raphael and lit up.
Something about the leather jacket or the scowl seemed to appeal to her strongly.
"How about you, Vampire Without a Cause?"
"I'm not gay," said Raphael. "I'm not straight. I'm not interested."
"Your sexuality is 'not interested'?" Alec asked curiously.
Raphael said, "That's right."
The faerie thought for a moment, then ventured, "I can also assume the appearance of a tree!"
"I didn't say, 'not interested unless you're a tree.' "
"Wait," said the faerie suddenly. "I recognize you. You're Raphael Santiago! I've heard of you."
Raphael made a gesture of dismissal. "Have you heard I like it when people go away?"
"You were one of the heroes in the Downworlder victory over Valentine."
"He was one of the heroes of the Downworlder and Shadow ~ Cassandra Clare
Zuleika Santiago quotes by Cassandra Clare
Like my heart and like my soul, it continues to live every day, because my heart and soul are in it. And my heart and soul is your heart and soul. I am Santiago the shepherd boy in search of my treasure, just as you are Santiago the shepherd boy in search of your own. The story of one person is the story of everyone, and one man's quest is the quest of all of humanity, which is why I believe The Alchemist continues all these years later to resonate with people from different cultures all around the world, touching them emotionally and spiritually, equally, without prejudice. ~ Paulo Coelho
Zuleika Santiago quotes by Paulo Coelho
Major General Leonard Wood

Leonard Wood was an army officer and physician, born October 9, 1860 in Winchester, New Hampshire. His first assignment was in 1886 at Fort Huachuca, Arizona where he fought in the last campaign against the fierce Apache warrior Geronimo. He was awarded the Medal of Honor for carrying dispatches 100 miles through hostile territory and was promoted to the rank of Captain, commanding a detachment of the 8th Infantry.

From 1887 to 1898, he served as a medical officer in a number of positions, the last of which was as the personal physician to President William McKinley. In 1898 at the beginning of the war with Spain, he was given command of the 1st Volunteer Cavalry. The regiment was soon to be known as the "Rough Riders." Wood lead his men on the famous charge up San Juan Hill and was given a field promotion to brigadier general.

In 1898 he was appointed the Military Governor of Santiago de Cuba. In 1920, as a retired Major General, Wood ran as the Republican candidate for the presidency of the United States, losing to Warren Harding. In 1921 following his defeat, General Wood accepted the post of Governor General of the Philippines. He held this position from 1921 to 1927, when he died of a brain tumor in Boston, on 7 August 1927, at 66 years of age after which he was buried, with full honors, in Arlington National Cemetery. ~ Hank Bracker
Zuleika Santiago quotes by Hank Bracker
If we work together, we can do everything, if we just watch each other, we can do nothing ~ John Paul Santiago
Zuleika Santiago quotes by John Paul Santiago
Santiago Nasar had often told me that the smell of closed-in flowers had an immediate relation to death for him. ~ Gabriel Garcia Marquez

Not everything is a love story. ~ Ale Meza-Santiago
Zuleika Santiago quotes by Ale Meza-Santiago
The city of Granada, so gloriously provided with architectural reminders of its Islamic heritage, was particularly anxious to show that it was a more ancient and distinguished Christian centre than Toledo or Santiago de Compostela, and it also wanted to outface the upstart royal capital Madrid. These aims were much assisted by the 'discovery' from 1588 onwards of a series of forged early Christian relics (plomos, or lead books) hidden in the minaret of the former main Granadan mosque and in various nearby caves. ~ Diarmaid MacCulloch
Zuleika Santiago quotes by Diarmaid MacCulloch
The mediocre can be educated; geniuses educate themselves. ~ Santiago Ramon Y Cajal
Zuleika Santiago quotes by Santiago Ramon Y Cajal
On the morning that they were going to kill him, Santiago Nasar got up at five-thirty in the morning to wait for the boat bishop was coming on. ~ Gabriel Garcia Marquez
Zuleika Santiago quotes by Gabriel Garcia Marquez
On the Republican side, the emotional bonds of family launched a major social organization led by nietos, the Association for the Recovery of Historical Memory. Late in 2000 Emilio Silva and Santiago Macías began a personal search for the unmarked graves of their Republican ancestors.

[...] Descendants of executed Republicans told a journalist that "without the body, the pain never ceases." "Never," she reported, "have they spoken of vengeance, of revenge, or of anything that resembles that. In an exhumation, they never raise their eyes from the ground. They are not thinking of reopening wounds, but of closing, for once, their own." This journalist, Natalia Junquera, also quoted a distinguished professor of psychiatry who said, "The hatred dies, it is extinguished, but the necessity of putting a name to the dead, of honoring them, no. There always comes a moment in which one has to put an end to this interminable trauma." [63] ~ Paul D. Escott
Zuleika Santiago quotes by Paul D. Escott
What doesn't kill you, makes you fat. ~ Esmeralda Santiago
Zuleika Santiago quotes by Esmeralda Santiago
Maybe we should consider this for a second. Maybe, instead of surrendering the fight because a Marine made a mistake, maybe we should train Santiago. What do you think, I'm just spit-balling, but maybe we, as officers, have a responsibility to this country to see that the men charged with its security are trained professionals. Maybe we have that responsibility to other members of the Corps. Yes, yes, I'm certain I once read something like that. See, and now I'm trying to think about how I'd feel if some Marine got hurt or killed because a Pfc. in my command didn't know what the fuck he was doing. And I'm trying to think about how the other members of his unit might feel, putting their lives in the hands of a man they can't count on ... and this brief meditation has brought me around to thinking that your suggestion of transferring Private Santiago off base, while expeditious, and certainly painless, might not be, in a manner of speaking, the "American Way". ~ Aaron Sorkin
Zuleika Santiago quotes by Aaron Sorkin
Just because your head knows something it does not mean that your heart agrees. ~ Ale Meza-Santiago
Zuleika Santiago quotes by Ale Meza-Santiago
In America, I am brown; I'm 'of colour', so I would be offered Latin roles, and I've fought against that. I don't want to be put in a category, to be just offered the same sort of thing. For me, it's all about different roles, telling the stories of the great writers. ~ Santiago Cabrera
Zuleika Santiago quotes by Santiago Cabrera
Could you give me a boost up to the second floor?"
"I will not," Raphael said icily.
"Sure, any friend of Magnus's," said Elliott, and then, off Raphael's glare, added, "is someone we don't like, definitely, not even a little bit, at all. ~ Cassandra Clare
Zuleika Santiago quotes by Cassandra Clare
Walking the Camino de Santiago taught me the wonders of physical challenge, the wonders of spiritual freedom, and the wonders of baby powder. ~ Christy Hall
Zuleika Santiago quotes by Christy Hall
I have to be invested spiritually, emotionally, and psychologically to do theater. I can't do it to make a living. I have four kids, a couple of grandkids, and two mortgages. ~ Ruben Santiago-Hudson
Zuleika Santiago quotes by Ruben Santiago-Hudson
As long as our brain is a mystery, the universe, the reflection of the structure of the brain will also be a mystery. ~ Santiago Ramon Y Cajal
Zuleika Santiago quotes by Santiago Ramon Y Cajal
We have been taught to believe that "heaven" is above us, but I believe it is all around us. The material world is solid, the spirit world is ethereal (invisible ~ Estella Santiago
Zuleika Santiago quotes by Estella Santiago

The night before I left my mother, I wrote a letter. ~ Esmeralda Santiago

I read Zuleika Dobson with pleasure. It represents the Oxford that the two World Wars have destroyed with a charm that is not likely to be reproduced anywhere in the world for the next thousand years. ~ Bertrand Russell
Zuleika Santiago quotes by Bertrand Russell
And we used to do a lot of drugs and get very drunk on very cheap wine. ~ Santiago Durango
Zuleika Santiago quotes by Santiago Durango
Some of the young kids look for one hit to be a star; that what they're known for the rest of their life ... I never wanted to be known as one thing; that is the reason I do classical theater, write, direct and the blessings God has given me ... I want to share. ~ Ruben Santiago-Hudson
Zuleika Santiago quotes by Ruben Santiago-Hudson
You trashed the law. But we understand. You're permitted. You have a greater responsibility than we can possibly fathom. You provide us with a blanket of freedom. We live in a world that has walls, and those walls have to be guarded by men with guns, and nothing's gonna stand in your way of doing it. Not Willy Santiago, not Dawson and Downey, not a thousand armies, not the Uniform Code of Military Justice, and not the Constitution of the United States. That's the truth, isn't it Colonel? I can handle it. ~ Aaron Sorkin
Zuleika Santiago quotes by Aaron Sorkin
Understanding is the key to everything. To rage, fear, love. If you understand a situation, it's going to make you mad. Or it's going to make you feel fearful. If any of us even had a clue as to what Bush and those people were up to, we'd be running stark crazy mad out of fear. ~ Jimmy Santiago Baca
