Wizard's Sixth Rule
The only sovereign you can allow to rule you is reason. ~ Terry Goodkind
Wizard S Rules quotes by Terry Goodkind
People are stupid; given proper motivation, almost anyone will believe almost anything. Because people are stupid, they will believe a lie because they want to believe it's true, or because they are afraid it might be true. People's heads are full of knowledge, facts, and beliefs, and most of it is false, yet they think it all true. People are stupid; they can only rarely tell the difference between a lie and the truth, and yet they are confident they can, and so are all the easier to fool. ~ Terry Goodkind
Wizard S Rules quotes by Terry Goodkind
The Second Rule is that the greatest harm can result from the best intentions. It sounds a paradox, but kindness and good intentions can be an insidious path to destruction. Sometimes doing what seems right is wrong, and can cause harm. The only counter to it is knowledge, wisdom, forethought, and understanding the First Rule. Even then, that is not always enough. ~ Terry Goodkind
Wizard S Rules quotes by Terry Goodkind
Wizard's Fifth Rule: Mind what people do, not only what they say, for deeds will betray a lie. ~ Terry Goodkind
Wizard S Rules quotes by Terry Goodkind
Wizard's Fourth Rule
There is magic in sincere forgiveness; in the forgiveness you give, but more so in the forgiveness you receive. ~ Terry Goodkind
Wizard S Rules quotes by Terry Goodkind
Wizard's Tenth Rule
Willfully turning aside from the truth is treason to one's self. ~ Terry Goodkind
Wizard S Rules quotes by Terry Goodkind
Wizard's Third Rule
Passion rules reason, for better or for worse. ~ Terry Goodkind
Wizard S Rules quotes by Terry Goodkind
Trying to be like Christ . . . is more like painting a portrait than like obeying a set of rules. ~ C.S. Lewis
Wizard S Rules quotes by C.S. Lewis
LINA"S RULES FOR SCOOTER RIDING:

1.Never ride a scooter sopping wet.

2. Never ride a scooter wearing a short skirt.

3. Try to pay attention to light signals. Otherwise, every time the driver accelerates you'll smash into him and you'll have this awkward untangling moment and then you'll worry he 's thinking you're doing it on purpose. ~ Jenna Evans Welch
Wizard S Rules quotes by Jenna Evans Welch
Remembering Mom's Clothesline -- There is one thing that's left out. We had a long wooden pole (clothes pole) that was used to push the clotheslines up so that longer items (sheets/pants/etc.) didn't brush the ground and get dirty.
I can hear my mother now...

THE BASIC RULES FOR CLOTHESLINES:

(If you don't even know what clotheslines are, better skip this.)
1. You had to hang the socks by the toes... NOT the top.
2. You hung pants by the BOTTOM/cuffs... NOT the waistbands.
3. You had to WASH the clothesline(s) before hanging any clothes - Walk the entire length of each line with a damp cloth around the lines.
4. You had to hang the clothes in a certain order, and always hang "whites" with "whites," And hang them first.
5. You NEVER hung a shirt by the shoulders - always by the tail! What would the neighbors think?
6. Wash day on a Monday! NEVER hang clothes on the weekend, Or on Sunday, for Heaven's sake!
7. Hang the sheets and towels on the OUTSIDE lines so you could Hide your "unmentionables" in the middle perverts & busybodies, y'know!)
8. It didn't matter if it was sub-zero weather... Clothes would "freeze-dry."
9. ALWAYS gather the clothes pins when taking down dry clothes! Pins left on the lines were "tacky"!
10. If you were efficient, you would line the clothes up so that each item. Did not need two clothes pins, but shared one of the clothes pins with the next washed item.

Wizard S Rules quotes by Unnown
My work doesn't have the same rules as, say, Andy [Warhol]'s work. But it's gathered together for the simple reason that we all worked with the images and objects around us. ~ Claes Oldenburg
Wizard S Rules quotes by Claes Oldenburg
Since the web is totally worldwide, we need a set of behavioural rules, laws they are commonly called, that are accepted worldwide. There is a big difference as to how things are treated in the U.S. and Europe and Asia. ~ Robert Cailliau
Wizard S Rules quotes by Robert Cailliau
1.There are no rules, because life is made up of too many rules as it is
2.But there are three "guidelines" (which sounds less rigid than "rules"):
a)No using our phones to get us there. We have to do this strictly old-school, which means learning to read actual maps
b)We alternate choosing places to go, but we also have to be willing to go where the road takes us. This means the grand, the small, the bizarre, the poetic, the beautiful, the ugly, the surprising. Just like life. But absolutely, unconditionally, resolutely nothing ordinary.
c)At each site, we leave something almost like an offering. It can be our own private game of geocaching( "the recreational activity of hunting for and finding a hidden object by means of GPS coordinates posted on a website"), only not a game, and just for us. The rules of geocaching say "takes something, leave something." The way I figure it, we stand to get something out of each place, so why not give something back? Also, it's a way to prove we've been there, and a way to leave a part of us behind. ~ Jennifer Niven
Wizard S Rules quotes by Jennifer Niven
Abuelita had her chancla. If we mouthed off, she'd take her sandal off and hurl it at us, and I swear to every deity that's ever existed that the chancla had homing powers. It could turn corners and strike us square in the face when we were trying to run away. Pops didn't have a chancla, so he had to settle for using magic if we broke one of his rules. ~ S.M. Reine
Wizard S Rules quotes by S.M. Reine
Scott Ritter is a very well-known archetype of a certain U.S. military officer. Very hard talking, very ambitious, zealous, and completely consumed with carrying out his mission. He's a guy who, throughout his career, I would say, did not break rules, but he worked around road blocks. ~ Barton Gellman
Wizard S Rules quotes by Barton Gellman
The stewards, and then the bailiffs, and then finally the lawyers meet. They wrangle, they agree, and we are to be married in June. It is no little decision for me - for the first time in my life I have my own lands in my own hands as a widow; once I become a wife everything becomes Lord Stanley's property. I have to struggle to reserve what I can from the law that rules that a wife has no rights, and I keep what I can, but I know that I am choosing my master. ~ Philippa Gregory
Wizard S Rules quotes by Philippa Gregory
There are more repercussions for a person being a chronic speeding violator in our country, than there is for a big bank being a chronic violator of S.E.C. rules! ~ Martin O'Malley
Wizard S Rules quotes by Martin O'Malley
All games are meaningless if you do not know the rules. ~ B.K.S. Iyengar
Wizard S Rules quotes by B.K.S. Iyengar
I think all Christians would agree with me if I said that though Christianity seems at first to be all about morality, all about duties and rules and guilt and virtue, yet it leads you on, out of all that, into something beyond. One has a glimpse of a country where they do not talk of those things, except perhaps as a joke. Everyone there is filled full with what we should call goodness as a mirror is filled with light. But they do not call it goodness. They do not call it anything. They are not thinking of it. They are too busy looking at the source from which it comes. But this is near the stage where the road passes over the rim of our world. No one's eyes can see very far beyond that: lots of people's eyes can see further than mine. ~ C.S. Lewis
Wizard S Rules quotes by C.S. Lewis
C. S. Lewis observed that almost all crimes of Christian history have come about when religion is confused with politics. Politics, which always runs by the rules of ungrace, allures us to trade away grace for power, a temptation the church has often been unable to resist. ~ Philip Yancey
Wizard S Rules quotes by Philip Yancey
The Christian conception of marriage is one: the other is quite the different question - how far Christians, if they are voters or Members of Parliament, ought to try to force their views of marriage on the rest of the community by embodying them in the divorce laws. A great many people seem to think that if you are a Christian yourself you should try to make divorce difficult for every one. I do not think that. At least I know I should be very angry if the Mohammedans tried to prevent the rest of us from drinking wine.

My own view is that the Churches should frankly recognize that the majority of the British people are not Christian and, therefore, cannot be expected to live Christian lives. There ought to be two distinct kinds of marriage: one governed by the State with rules enforced on all citizens, the other governed by the church with rules enforced by her on her own members. ~ C.S. Lewis
Wizard S Rules quotes by C.S. Lewis
There's the real world, with all its annoying facts and rules. In the real world, there are things that are true and things that aren't. Mostly the real world s-s-s-suh-sucks. But everyone also lives in the world inside their own head. An inscape, a world of thought. In a world made of thought - in an inscape - every idea is a fact. Emotions are as real as gravity. Dreams are as powerful as history. Creative people, like writers, and Henry Rollins, spend a lot of their time hanging out in their thoughtworld. S-s-strong creatives, though, can use a knife to cut the stitches between the two worlds, can bring them together. Your bike. My tiles. Those are our knives. She ~ Joe Hill
Wizard S Rules quotes by Joe Hill
As I say, all all he wanted from the manuscript was the string. That was the way he was. Nobody could predict what he was going to be interested in next. On the day of the bomb it was string. [ ... ] He had no use at all for tricks and games and rules that other people made up. ~ Kurt Vonnegut
Wizard S Rules quotes by Kurt Vonnegut
The sovereign individual cannot escape to any degree the rules and practices of gardening. ~ Tom P. S. Angier
Wizard S Rules quotes by Tom P. S. Angier
OBAMA'S FRUSTRATION WITH HIS critics boiled over during a lengthy trip to Asia in the spring of 2014. In the region, the trip was seen as another carefully designed U.S. effort to counter China. We'd go to Japan, to bring them into the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) - weaving together twelve Asia Pacific economies into one framework of trade rules, environmental protections, and labor rights. We'd go to South Korea and discuss ways to increase pressure on North Korea. We'd go to Malaysia, something of a swing state in Southeast Asia, which we were bringing closer through TPP. And we'd end in the Philippines, a U.S. ally that was mired in territorial disputes with China over maritime boundaries in the South China Sea. ~ Ben Rhodes
Wizard S Rules quotes by Ben Rhodes
But all I really learned is that money is powerful enough to bend the rules. Rhiannon:0, Dad:1. ~ Susane Colasanti
Wizard S Rules quotes by Susane Colasanti
Everyone lives in two worlds," Maggie said, speaking in an absentminded sort of way while she studied her letters. "There's the real world, with all its annoying facts and rules. In the real world, there are things that are true and things that aren't. Mostly the real world s-s-s-suh-sucks. But everyone also lives in the world inside their own head. P R E S I D E N T Y O S H I D A'S T E N S P A R T A N R UlE S Hideo Yoshida's quest for management excellence was no doubt driven by his visions for Japanese marketing and media, but also by an overall worry about Japan's economic prospects after World War II. As a result, he developed a set of business and work principles, or rules, which he called the "Ten Spartan Rules": difficult work.5. Once you begin a task, complete it. Never give up.6. Lead and set an example for your fellow workers.7. Set goals for yourself to ensure a constant sense of purpose.8. Move with confidence. It gives your work force and substance.9. At all times, challenge yourself to think creatively and find new solutions.10. When confrontation is necessary, don't shy away from it. Confrontation is often necessary to achieve progress. These traditional work rules still guide Dentsu's employees, and are carried around in their notebooks ~ Anonymous
Wizard S Rules quotes by Anonymous
How odd it is that we judge a woman by her clothes and the place she eats lunch and the subjects she talks about with her colleagues
on her coffee break, yet we don't judge a man if he doesn't grow his beard or if he works with women or speaks to them. Why do Saudi women allow subjugation to a man and adhere to men's rules and conditions? Why did I? ~ Manal Al-Sharif
Wizard S Rules quotes by Manal Al-Sharif
In my own field, x-ray crystallography, we used to work out the structure of minerals by various dodges which we never bothered to write down, we just used them. Then Linus Pauling came along to the laboratory, saw what we were doing and wrote out what we now call Pauling's Rules. We had all been using Pauling's Rules for about three or four years before Pauling told us what the rules were. ~ J. D. Bernal
Wizard S Rules quotes by J. D. Bernal
Fucking just tell me what you want and I'll go with it. That's what you do when you do s/m scenes. You discuss rules beforehand. 'Cause otherwise it's all too dangerous and there has to be trust. Well, it's the same, for me, with vanilla sex or without sex. If you don't discuss the rules, then the shit power games are outside the bed and they hurt. I'm truly no longer interested in either hurting or being hurt. It's all boring and I want to work in this world and to matter. I no longer want my time occupied by hurting and being hurt. ~ Kathy Acker
Wizard S Rules quotes by Kathy Acker
Even freedom needs some rules to keep it from being complete chaos. ~ S.A. Tawks

What is it about the Kelly velvet hillsides and the hoary avocado sea,
The vertical cliffs where the Gulf Stream commences its southern bend,
Slashing like a sculptor gone mad or a rancorous God who's angry,
Heaving galaxies of lichen shrouded stones for potato farmers to tend,
Where the Famine and the Troubles such haunting aspects lend,
Music and verse ring with such eloquence in their whimsical way,
Let all, who can hear, rejoice as singers' intonations mend,
Gaelic souls from Sligo and Trinity Green to Cork and Dingle Bay,
Where fiddle, bodhran, tin whistle, and even God, indulge to play,
Ould sod to Beckett, Wilde and Yeats, Heaney and James Joyce,
In this verdant, welcoming land, 'tis the poet who rules the day.
Where else can one hear a republic croon in so magnificent a voice?
Primal hearts of Celtic chieftains pulse, setting inspiration free,
In genial confines of chic caprice, we're stirred by synchronicity. ~ David B. Lentz
Wizard S Rules quotes by David B. Lentz
In the U.S., you have so many rules, everything's regulated and structured. When you make a mistake, you pay for it -a lot. ~ Jaromir Jagr
Wizard S Rules quotes by Jaromir Jagr
There are rules and laws to help ensure our physical safety. Likewise, the Lord has provided guidelines and commandments to help ensure our spiritual safety so that we might successfully navigate this often-treacherous mortal existence and return eventually to our Heavenly Father" ("Obedience Brings Blessings," April 2013 General Conference). ~ Thomas S. Monson
Wizard S Rules quotes by Thomas S. Monson
All social groups groups make rules and attempt, at some times and under some circumstances, to enforce them. Social rules define situations and the kinds of behavior appropriate to them, specifying some actions as "right" and forbidding others as "wrong". ~ Howard S. Becker
Wizard S Rules quotes by Howard S. Becker
The universe is not ordered, and it will not become so simply because one wishes it. The universe is chaos made manifest. The military does a fine job of creating an illusion of structure, of dependable rules to provide an answer for every situation.

"But it is only an illusion, one which on its best days holds the chaos at bay. ~ G.S. Jennsen
Wizard S Rules quotes by G.S. Jennsen
When I wrote 'A Crown of Golden Leaves', based in ancient Rome, it was acceptable to talk about slaves fighting in the Colosseum. When I wrote 'The Fifth Bride of Pharaoh', based in Ancient Egypt it was acceptable to talk about slaves building the pyramids. But how dare I write a sentence about American Slavery?! Why are some forms of slavery acceptable to write about but not others? Who made these absurd rules and why should I have to abide by them? I refuse to omit an entire war from U.S. history just so childish people feel more comfortable. ~ Catalina DuBois
Wizard S Rules quotes by Catalina DuBois
Then there were her rules, rules that stated quite clearly that he was a 'no-go' area. She drew a deep breath and tried to make a decision in keeping with her rules. But the words would not come. She could not decide to give him up. Her inner self would not even contemplate it. Somehow, he had touched her soul in a way that she could not explain adequately. She felt a link there that was too real to consider severing. Kate felt the anguish of this conflict between her morality and her acceptance of the bond that did exist between them, despite her incredulity and despite her objections. ~ Khul Waters
