Yeah ... hey, you have a male here." Shay walked toward the hall, sniffing the air. "And he's human. Way to go, Dani! ~ Lia Davis
Winter Eve quotes by Lia Davis
Whiles in the early Winter eve We pass amid the gathering night Some homestead that we had to leave Years past; and see its candles bright Shine in the room beside the door Where we were merry years agone But now must never enter more, As still the dark road drives us on. E'en so the world of men may turn At even of some hurried day And see the ancient glimmer burn Across the waste that hath no way; Then with that faint light in its eyes A while I bid it linger near And nurse in wavering memories The bitter-sweet of days that were. ~ William Morris
Winter Eve quotes by William Morris
We hold on to poetry because it lights a fire in our soul and keeps our bodies warm. ~ Sanober Khan
Winter Eve quotes by Sanober Khan
He hissed and rocked his hips into her. "You like to bite?"
"I'm a cat, aren't I? ~ Lia Davis
Winter Eve quotes by Lia Davis
He raised his hand to brush a stray hair from her face. Instead of dropping his hand, he slid it behind her neck and drew her closer. His earthy pine scent enveloped her. When his lips touched hers, she lost any hope of control. ~ Lia Davis
Winter Eve quotes by Lia Davis
He stepped into her line of sight and brushed the robe aside to press a tender kiss on her scarred breast. "They are part of you. I think you are beautiful with them."
"I'm not perfect like other shifters."
"I don't want perfect because it doesn't exist in any species. ~ Lia Davis
Winter Eve quotes by Lia Davis
Some part of me remembers what snow is, but this is the first time my new mind has seen it. It softens the crumbled sidewalks and turns rusty rooftops white. It's beautiful. It crunches under my feet as I move toward the house, longing to understand. ~ Isaac Marion
Winter Eve quotes by Isaac Marion
That was on a night in August. Dad Lewis died early that morning and the young girl Alice from next door got lost in the evening and then found her way home in the dark by the streetlights of town and so returned to the people who loved her. And in the fall the days turned cold and the leaves dropped off the trees and in the winter the wind blew from the mountains and out on the high plains of Holt County there were overnight storms and three-day blizzards. ~ Kent Haruf
Winter Eve quotes by Kent Haruf
Dead calm, then a murmur, a name, a murmured name, in doubt, in fear, in love, in fear, in doubt, wind of winter in the black boughs, cold calm sea whitening whispering to the shore, stealing, hastening, swelling, passing, dying, from naught come, to naught gone ~ Samuel Beckett
Winter Eve quotes by Samuel Beckett
Eve: "She completely eye-fucked you." Roarke: "I know. I feel so cheap and used." Eve: "Shit. You got off on it. Men always do." Roarke: "True enough, which is why we're so often cheap and used. ~ J.D. Robb
Winter Eve quotes by J.D. Robb
A winter without snow seems depressing, lacking. ~ Dacia Maraini
Winter Eve quotes by Dacia Maraini
The meal began with pickled squid, oyster shooters, marinated anchovies, and scungilli salad. Then Rosalie set an enormous bowl of pasta con le vongole in front of Sal, who ladled it out, talking the entire time. The pasta was followed by huge platters of scampi, which we passed around. It was almost eleven when Rosalie set three enormous stuffed turbots on the table, and it was near midnight when she appeared with a plate of warm sugar-dusted sfinge.
"So our first taste of the New Year will be sweet," Sal whispered in my ear. ~ Ruth Reichl
Winter Eve quotes by Ruth Reichl
Surely this trial is just for a season. All I need is the strength to endure - to see through the darkness of winter to the promise of spring. ~ Tracy Leininger Craven
Winter Eve quotes by Tracy Leininger Craven
We use rituals in our Moon Circle in order to set the evening apart as a sacred space. We use it to recentre ourselves, to allow crashing thoughts to melt away. Like music and art, rituals can open our hearts to new possibilities. They allow us to see with a fresh clarity, and bring us to a space of liminality. Liminal space is what we feel when we see a stunning sunset and the world around us drops away. It's when we hear a new song and begin crying at the traffic lights. It's the quiet of Christmas Eve, when everything is done and all the family is asleep, and your mind grows still and full of gladness. ~ Lucy AitkenRead
Winter Eve quotes by Lucy AitkenRead
Our lives are so important to us that we tend to think the story of them begins with our birth. First there was nothing, then I was born ... Yet that is not so. Human lives are not pieces of string that can be separated out from a knot of others and laid out straight. Families are webs. Impossible to touch one part of it without setting the rest vibrating. Impossible to understand one part without having a sense of the whole. - Vida Winter ~ Diane Setterfield
Winter Eve quotes by Diane Setterfield
A department store two days before Christmas Eve is like a city in a state of siege ... ~ Rachel Cohn
Winter Eve quotes by Rachel Cohn
When we first fell in love in the dead of winter, we said, "If we aren't more in love in lilactime, we shall be finished." But we were more in love: for love must grow or die. ~ Sheldon Vanauken
Winter Eve quotes by Sheldon Vanauken
His specialty was alfalfa, and he made a good thing out of not growing any. The government paid him well for every bushel of alfalfa he did not grow. The more alfalfa he did not grow, the more money the government gave him, and he spent every penny he didn't earn on new land to increase the amount of alfalfa he did not produce. Major Major's father worked without rest at not growing alfalfa. On long winter evenings he remained indoors and did not mend harness, and he sprang out of bed at the crack of noon every day just to make certain that the chores would not be done. He invested in land wisely and soon was not growing more alfalfa than any other man in the county. Neighbours sought him out for advice on all subjects, for he had made much money and was therefore wise. "As ye sow, so shall ye reap," he counselled one and all, and everyone said "Amen. ~ Joseph Heller
Winter Eve quotes by Joseph Heller
Jonah Pickett was like snow days, field trips, candy stores, and Christmas Eve all blended into one big swoosh of a feeling -Felicity Pickle ~ Natalie Lloyd
Winter Eve quotes by Natalie Lloyd
The people ... " Winter whispered. "Are going to die," the man said, watching coldly. "It's a shame; I didn't mean for it to get quite that out of control. I let my anger get away from me. I had intended to scorch the ground around us, leave you in the middle of a smoking crater, but when people interfere with me, when they try to shake me down, take what's mine, it makes me ... so angry." Winter watched the scorched ground as the black smoke started to rise. The man shook him, diverting Winter's attention back to him. "Listen to me. ~ Robert J. Crane
Winter Eve quotes by Robert J. Crane
If anyone deserves revenge, it's Eve, and you want to take that from her now, too. ~ Lexi Blake
Winter Eve quotes by Lexi Blake
Women have a less accurate measure of time than men; there is a clock in Adam, none in Eve. ~ Ralph Waldo Emerson
Winter Eve quotes by Ralph Waldo Emerson
We grew up together, which is the only reason we're friends. He's actually got a lot of other acquaintances, too, for a few reasons. The first is that he plays soccer in winter and has mates from there. The second and main reason is that he carries on like an idiot. Have you ever noticed that idiots have a lot of friends?
It's just an observation. ~ Markus Zusak
Winter Eve quotes by Markus Zusak
Cigarettes and Whiskey and Wild, Wild Women"

Perhaps I was born kneeling,
born coughing on the long winter,
born expecting the kiss of mercy,
born with a passion for quickness
and yet, as things progressed,
I learned early about the stockade
or taken out, the fume of the enema.
By two or three I learned not to kneel,
not to expect, to plant my fires underground
where none but the dolls, perfect and awful,
could be whispered to or laid down to die.

Now that I have written many words,
and let out so many loves, for so many,
and been altogether what I always was -
a woman of excess, of zeal and greed,
I find the effort useless.
Do I not look in the mirror,
these days,
and see a drunken rat avert her eyes?
Do I not feel the hunger so acutely
that I would rather die than look
into its face?
I kneel once more,
in case mercy should come
in the nick of time. ~ Anne Sexton
Winter Eve quotes by Anne Sexton
In the dark of the moon, in flying snow, in the dead of winter, war spreading, families dying, the world in danger, I walk the rocky hillside, sowing clover. ~ Wendell Berry
Winter Eve quotes by Wendell Berry
Winter is coming. ~ Griff Hosker
Winter Eve quotes by Griff Hosker
[W]e've been adjudicating inequality through cultural criticism. We have taught people who don't even care about feminism how to do this - how to analyze women and analyze the way people react to women, how to endlessly read and interpret the signs. ~ Jia Tolentino
Winter Eve quotes by Jia Tolentino
We found letters at the house we bought from a sailor to his wife who lived in the house. He went down to the Caribbean on this trader vessel, bringing down salted fish. There would be handwritten letters, but also telegrams, saying which ports he was in. And he'd be gone for three months. That was just the way it is. ~ Michael Winter
Winter Eve quotes by Michael Winter
Our destiny often looks like a fruit-tree in winter. Who would think from its pitiable aspect that those rigid boughs, those rough twigs could next spring again be green, bloom, and even bear fruit? Yet we hope it, we know it. ~ Johann Wolfgang Von Goethe
Winter Eve quotes by Johann Wolfgang Von Goethe
And yes, I confess, when I looked at him, I thought of Heathcliff and Mr Rochester and Maxim de Winter ... and how could I not, when I had been waiting for them to step out of the pages of the books I loved; when I knew them so well, read them inside out and into myself? ~ Justine Picardie
Winter Eve quotes by Justine Picardie
In 2017, I was invited to lead a mindfulness workshop and guide a live meditation on Mingus Mountain, Arizona, to over 100 men and women at a recovery retreat. On the eve of my workshop, I had the opportunity to join in a men's twelve-step meeting, which took place by the campfire in Prescott National Park Forest, with at least 40 men recovering from childhood grief and trauma. The meeting grounded us in what was a large retreat with many unfamiliar faces. I was the only mixed-race Brit, surrounded by mostly white middle-class American men (baby boomers and Generation X), yet our common bond of validating each other's wounds in recovery utterly transcended any differences of nationality, race and heritage. We shared our pain and hope in a non-shaming environment, listening and allowing every man to have his say without interruption. At the end of the meeting we stood up in a large circle and recited the serenity prayer:

"God grant me the serenity to accept the people I cannot change, the courage to change the one I can, and the wisdom to know that one is me".

After the meeting closed, I felt that I belonged and I was enthusiastic about the retreat, even though I was thousands of miles away from England. ~ Christopher Dines
Winter Eve quotes by Christopher Dines
Have you ever noticed the perfection of nature? The seasons and how one changes into the next, the falling leaves, composting soil, rains, new seedlings, sunshine, growth, blossoms, etc. Grass grows, deer eats grass, lion eats deer, deer population is stabilized so there is grass for other animals; sunrise and sunset, boy and girl, winter and summer. ~ Bryan Kest
Winter Eve quotes by Bryan Kest
It's our first Elysium together, Ash. They'll be expecting us. Both of us."
He moaned and grabbed another pillow, covering his eyes.
"No playing hooky and insulting the Winter Queen. I'm not doing this by myself." I took the second pillow, tossing it on the floor, and mock-glared at him. "Up."
He regarded me with a wry smile. "You're awfully perky for someone who kept me up all night."
"Hey, you started it remember? ~ Julie Kagawa
Winter Eve quotes by Julie Kagawa
Winter
The season between autumn and spring, comprising in the Northern Hemisphere
the coldest months of the year:
December, January and February.

A period of inactivity or decay. ~ Cecelia Ahern
Winter Eve quotes by Cecelia Ahern
On the eve of the Civil War, James Parton could write that 'the political history of the United States, for the last thirty years, dates from the moment when the soft hand of Mr. Van Buren touched Mrs. Eaton's knocker.' ~ James Parton
Winter Eve quotes by James Parton
Ah, grief, I should not treat you
like a homeless dog
who comes in the back door
for a crust, for a meatless bone.
I should trust you.

I should coax you
into the house and give you
your own corner,
a worn mat to lie on,
your own water dish.

You think I don't know you've been living
under my porch.
You long for a real place to be readied
before winter comes. You need
the right to warn off intruders,
to consider my house your own
and me your person
and yourself
my own dog. ~ Denise Levertov
Winter Eve quotes by Denise Levertov
This is Winter," said Scarlet. "Princess Winter."
Thorne guffawed and pushed a hand into his hair. "Are we running a boardinghouse for misplaced royalty around here, or what? ~ Marissa Meyer
Winter Eve quotes by Marissa Meyer
She had always loved the stars. But in the desert of winter it was impossible to forget that they were cold, and distant, and did not care. ~ Seth Dickinson
Winter Eve quotes by Seth Dickinson
We are stripped of all that gave value and substance to our existence: power and love; in this naked final state, our last lover, our mate, death, comes. Bereft, without cover, we face the elements that will undo us. The winter breakers crash over and through us, flaunting their vigor and our nullity, as if the entire cosmos were now taking its ultimate revenge on the human creature who has lived too long: the dying sun mocks us from the west, for it will return tomorrow to die again, but we go down only once; the rising sun mocks us from the east, for we will not share in the rebirth of light and life; the noonday taunts us with its heat and vitality, for we are detritus; the north finally cloaks us in our last vestments: eternal night. That is how it ends. ~ Arnold Weinstein
Winter Eve quotes by Arnold Weinstein
Autumn is a melancholy and graceful andante, that prepares beautifully solemn adagio of winter ~ George Sand
Winter Eve quotes by George Sand
There isn't any poison oak in the winter. It's hard to convince a girl you're sexy when you can't stop scratching your ass because of the rash. -Jax Cullen ~ Jill Shalvis
Winter Eve quotes by Jill Shalvis
Most volleyball players are made in the winter, spring and summer, for come fall, everyone practices equal time. ~ John Kessel
