I'm for the individual as opposed to the corporation. The way it is the individual is the underdog, and with all the things a corporation has going for them the individual comes out banged on her head. The artist is nothing. It's really tragic. ~ Marilyn Monroe
Vanderkloot Artist quotes by Marilyn Monroe
I look at other artists who have had fabulous first albums, and you don't know what they're doing today. Who's to say I'll be an exception to that rule? ~ Toni Braxton
Vanderkloot Artist quotes by Toni Braxton
This is business: they don't care about your lyrics;
The better you sell, the better future for their children.
Controversy sells, so they support conflict,
Makes more progress, means more profit.
An artist gets killed, they say they're 'so sorry,'
Meanwhile, they tell you the date of his next project.
What a life ... death made them more profit:
Record companies get paid for your drama. ~ Cormega
Vanderkloot Artist quotes by Cormega
The people I am afraid of are the ones who look for tendentiousness between the lines and are determined to see me as either liberal or conservative. I am neither liberal, nor conservative, nor gradualist, nor monk, nor indifferentist. I would like to be a free artist and nothing else, and I regret God has not given me the strength to be one. ~ Anton Chekhov
Vanderkloot Artist quotes by Anton Chekhov
Artists are mystics rather than rationalists. They leap to conclusions that logic cannot reach. ~ Sol LeWitt
Vanderkloot Artist quotes by Sol LeWitt
This is so cool," I said as Dad walked away. "Have you met the tattoo artist? Is he hot?
"He's a she," Mom said.
"Is she hot? Cause I'm still young, you know. My sexual identity isn't fully formed. ~ Kelley Armstrong
Vanderkloot Artist quotes by Kelley Armstrong
The artist is only a vehicle for already has been. Nothing can really be given a presence unless it already exists potentially. ~ Louis I. Kahn
Vanderkloot Artist quotes by Louis I. Kahn
Every artist is both male and female, and ... sometimes, the two great elements are in conjunction with him, so that all by himself he suddenly gets the melody and the burst of feeling of a great symphony without any external stimuli. ~ Ruth St. Denis
Vanderkloot Artist quotes by Ruth St. Denis
Science for me is very close to art. Scientific discovery is an irrational act. It's an intuition which turns out to be reality at the end of it-and I see no difference between a scientist developing a marvellous discovery and an artist making a painting. ~ Carlo Rubbia
Vanderkloot Artist quotes by Carlo Rubbia
You must be an artist and an actor. ~ Ehab Atalla
Vanderkloot Artist quotes by Ehab Atalla
There is a storytelling element in there. The tango form is a little like the blues in that you have a kind of structure. It's not as rigid as twelve bar, but it's very much a storytelling medium -- and there's an element of call-and-response, and a particular arc in the musical form, that suggest a story. It's about being in the moment, with the music; and responding to your partner, and the particular feeling and momentum in her body in any one moment. It's a very concentrated thing; you can't think about anything else while you are doing it. If you try to hold a conversation, it just kind of falls apart. The music was what really drew me into tango. Everyone knows a few of the more popular tango classics, but once you get into it, there's such a rich field. It's astonishing, this kind of miraculous musical form that developed in a very small locality: two cities on either side of the River Plate, in Argentina and Urugauy. It started in the 1880s or '90s, and there are all kinds of mysteries, myths and stories, about how tango started and developed. It was first of all considered really low-life, almost reptilian. Something to be avoided and not talked about. And then it became this word wide phenomena. . .and I could go on talking about tango forever. . . . but its also to do with movement. I try to get that into my pictures: a sense of movement, something flowing through. A while ago, I realised how much I'd been drawing dancing figures in the corners of my sketchbooks fo ~ Alan Lee (artist)
Vanderkloot Artist quotes by Alan Lee (artist)
I'm learning about filming, and just conceptualizing as well. I think it's a good artistic inroad, even to music as well. ~ Stevie Jackson
Vanderkloot Artist quotes by Stevie Jackson
The teacher is of course an artist, but being an artist does not mean that he or she can make the profile, can shape the students. What the educator does in teaching is to make it possible for the students to become themselves. ~ Paulo Freire
Vanderkloot Artist quotes by Paulo Freire
I didn't want to be pigeonholed as an artist. I wanted to be able to have other stories to tell. ~ Malcolm D. Lee
Vanderkloot Artist quotes by Malcolm D. Lee
Other [artists'] music is really what you get most inspiration from, whether consciously or subconsciously. I like a lot of old music and a lot of soul music. I also really like a lot of new stuff. ~ Ben Rector
Vanderkloot Artist quotes by Ben Rector
Working with younger artists kind of tests your judgment. You're not always right, but when you are, it's exciting. ~ Larry Gagosian
Vanderkloot Artist quotes by Larry Gagosian
The artist has to take risks. ~ Irving Stone
Vanderkloot Artist quotes by Irving Stone
If there is anything the artist or a true work of art teaches us, it is that variety and complexity really increase the unity, and that to achieve unity within a great variety of complexity is a greater achievement and more satisfying piece of art than to achieve unity with just a few elements, which is relatively easily achieved. ~ David Steindl-Rast
Vanderkloot Artist quotes by David Steindl-Rast
All kids, when they go to school, are pretty good artists and dancers and singers and poets. All that gets buried, basically through being educated, or brainwashed. ~ William Wiley
Vanderkloot Artist quotes by William Wiley
It's an artist's right to rebel against the world's stupidity. ~ E.A. Bucchianeri
Vanderkloot Artist quotes by E.A. Bucchianeri
Allow some warm-up time each day to stimulate your creative flow. A pianist does keyboard exercises. A gymnast stretches. An artist needs to loosen up, too. It takes a few minutes to shift from the real world into a creative mode. ~ Nita Leland
Vanderkloot Artist quotes by Nita Leland
For the slow labor of realizing a potential gift the artist must retreat to those Bohemias, halfway between the slums and the library, where life is not counted by the clock and where the talented may be sure they will be ignored until that time, if it ever comes, when their gifts are viable enough to be set free and survive in the world. ~ Lewis Hyde
Vanderkloot Artist quotes by Lewis Hyde
As we, or mother Dana, weave and unweave our bodies, Stephen said, from day to day, their molecules shuttled to and fro, so does the artist weave and unweave his image. And as the mole on my right breast is where it was when I was born, though all my body has been woven of new stuff time after time, so through the ghost of the unquiet father the image of the unliving son looks forth. In the intense instant of imagination, when the mind, Shelley says, is a fading coal, that which I was is that which I am and that which in possibility I may come to be. So in the future, the sister of the past, I may see myself as I sit here now but by reflection from that which then I shall be. ~ James Joyce
Vanderkloot Artist quotes by James Joyce
All art is at once surface and symbol. Those who go beneath the surface do so at their peril. Those who read the symbol do so at their peril. It is the spectator, and not life, that art really mirrors. Diversity of opinion about a work of art shows that the work is new, complex and vital. ~ Oscar Wilde
Vanderkloot Artist quotes by Oscar Wilde
Artists are the only people in the world who really live. The others have to hope for heaven. ~ John French Sloan
Vanderkloot Artist quotes by John French Sloan
Men who not religious or artists are fools. ~ Soren Kierkegaard
Vanderkloot Artist quotes by Soren Kierkegaard
I suppose I felt doomed to be an artist early on because of the way I drew all over the books that I needed for school, from ancient history to math. I was more interested in drawing in the margins than actually doing the work. ~ Nancy Spero
Vanderkloot Artist quotes by Nancy Spero
I don't love the world. I think Jupiter should have hit us. ~ Imogen Cunningham
Vanderkloot Artist quotes by Imogen Cunningham
On my solemn oath, Edmund, I'd gladly face not having an acre of land to call my own, nor a penny in the bank, I'd be willing to have no home but the poorhouse in my old age, if I could look back now on having been the fine artist I might have been. ~ Eugene O'Neill
Vanderkloot Artist quotes by Eugene O'Neill
Most of the time when people work with an artist, they don't give them what they need for the future, they give them what their last album sounded like. So it's like, 'Oh, One Republic needs a song, why don't we send them 10 that sound like 'Apologize?' ~ Benny Blanco
Vanderkloot Artist quotes by Benny Blanco
Imagine, 24 pages of superhero adventures produced by the same writer and artist every month!! How did they do it? (What? By being professional about it? But that's too much like work!) ~ John Byrne
Vanderkloot Artist quotes by John Byrne
Citizen's Band radio renders one accessible to a wide variety of people from all walks of life. It should not be forgotten that all walks of life include conceptual artists, dry cleaners, and living poets. ~ Fran Lebowitz
Vanderkloot Artist quotes by Fran Lebowitz
There was a barber and his wife. And he was beautiful. A proper artist with a knife but they transported him for life. And he was beautiful ~ Anonymous
Vanderkloot Artist quotes by Anonymous
No matter who you are, you always want more recognition, but I'm grateful for what I do have, and I feel like I've earned it ... So I'm going to continue to put in that hard work, and build relationships with people, and continue to grow as an artist ... So hopefully from that, I'll be able to get more recognition ... ~ Paul Wall
Vanderkloot Artist quotes by Paul Wall
An odd contradiction, if the layman were correct in his unconscious assumption that an artist begins with reality and ends with art: the converse is true - to the degree that this dichotomy has any truth - the artist begins with art, and through it arrives at reality. ~ Robert Motherwell
Vanderkloot Artist quotes by Robert Motherwell
I was raised on a farm in East Tennessee, and my first concert was Britney Spears. It's my job as a country music artist to be honest about that. ~ Kelsea Ballerini
Vanderkloot Artist quotes by Kelsea Ballerini
You're supposed to be a control freak when you're an artist. That's the whole point of having a vision: Why have one if you're not going to protect it? ~ Jason Robert Brown
Vanderkloot Artist quotes by Jason Robert Brown
For a painter, the Mecca of the world, for study, for inspiration and for living is here on this star called Paris. Just look at it, no wonder so many artists have come here and called it home. Brother, if you can't paint in Paris, you'd better give up and marry the boss's daughter. ~ Alan Jay Lerner
Vanderkloot Artist quotes by Alan Jay Lerner
The artist is the only one qualified to criticize his art, because only the artist knows what he was trying to express and how satisfied he is with the attempt. ~ Ron Brackin
Vanderkloot Artist quotes by Ron Brackin
David Fincher is a longtime friend. As a director, my wife had worked with him as a makeup artist when he would do Madonna videos years before, and his child and my oldest child were in preschool together, so we're kind of dad-friends through that, too. ~ Anthony Edwards
Vanderkloot Artist quotes by Anthony Edwards
Maybe that, really, is as good a definition as any of an artist in the world: a ruthless person. ~ Claire Messud
