These were the new girls of New York- complete with rapid heartbeats from too much nicotine and coffee. They were nervous and fluttery but completely alluring- the new face of urban femininity. ~ Elizabeth Winder
Urban Femininity quotes by Elizabeth Winder
Without warning, he jumped into the air. Startled, I held him tighter, my cheek against his. Speaking into my ear, he said, Yer not too tall, nor too thin, nor do ye weigh too much. Yer perfect the way ye are, lass. A man that does not possess the strength, patience and intelligence to provide fer and protect a woman is no man at all. ~ Michaela McGregor
Urban Femininity quotes by Michaela McGregor
Urban reinvention is what has been called the "consumer city." The post-World War II years brought about the rise of suburbanization and the creation of the commuter city. People chose suburban life for its amenities and comforts and commuted into the city only for work and the occasional show. But Vancouver and Los Angeles are two urban areas that reversed the trend. They became consumer cities marked by a new phenomenon - the reverse commuter. Increasingly, these and other cities offer residents a quality of life they could not find elsewhere in the region - a dizzying variety of artistic, educational, cultural, and entertainment events and ~ Timothy Keller
Urban Femininity quotes by Timothy Keller
Safe? What can be classified as safe? Everything we do in life has a risk. Just getting out of bed each morning can be dangerous. It's not a matter of what is safe, Cooper, it's a matter of what are you going to allow to hold you back." I look down at him over my shoulder and smile. "You going to let some squeaking metal hold you back? ~ Brandy Nacole
Urban Femininity quotes by Brandy Nacole

I'm one of those forward-thinkers who believes that "man" encompasses the whole darned race

In its revolt against congestion and sordor, a space-hungry generation has, I fear, developed eyes that are bigger than its stomach. ~ Lewis Mumford
Urban Femininity quotes by Lewis Mumford
You've heard shards of our voice in the phantom-radio code of a numbers station in the roar of a crowd - in the screams of your clock - in the scrape of a chalkboard - in the snow static of a TV - in the chainsaw-decibel mating of cicadas - in the urban mythos that spreads amongst children like contagion - in the silence between lies.

White noise becomes a cadence. Words develop self-awareness. Viral. Evolving. Living poetry. Sentient language. ~ Joshua Alan Doetsch
Urban Femininity quotes by Joshua Alan Doetsch
No surprises" is the motto of the franchise ghetto, its Good Housekeeping seal, subliminally blazoned on every sign and logo that make up the curves and grids of light that outline the Basin. The people of America, who live in the world's most surprising and terrible country, take comfort in that motto. Follow the loglo outward, to where the growth is enfolded into the valleys and the canyons, and you find the land of the refugees. They have fled from the true America, the America of atomic bombs, scalpings, hip-hop, chaos theory, cement overshoes, snake handlers, spree killers, space walks, buffalo jumps, drive-bys, cruise missiles, Sherman's March, gridlock, motorcycle gangs, and bun-gee jumping. They have parallel-parked their bimbo boxes in identical computer-designed Burbclave street patterns and secreted themselves in symmetrical sheetrock shitholes with vinyl floors and ill-fitting woodwork and no sidewalks, vast house farms out in the loglo wilderness, a culture medium for a medium culture. The only ones left in the city are street people, feeding off debris; immigrants, thrown out like shrapnel from the destruction of the Asian powers; young bohos; and the technomedia priesthood of Mr. Lee's Greater Hong Kong. Young smart people like Da5id and Hiro, who take the risk of living in the city because they like stimulation and they know they can handle it. ~ Neal Stephenson
Urban Femininity quotes by Neal Stephenson
He kissed my lips, his skin warm in spite of the cool winter wind whipping past us. His whisper would have been lost on me before, but now I heard every word. "What do you want, Raven? ~ Lisa Kessler
Urban Femininity quotes by Lisa Kessler

I subscribe to the online Urban Dictionary's definition of nerd: 'one whose IQ exceeds his weight'. I'm also keen on the same Urban Dictionary's definition of geek: 'the person you pick on in high school and wind up working for as an adult'. I happily proclaim myself a book nerd/reading geek and proud of it. ~ Malorie Blackman
Urban Femininity quotes by Malorie Blackman
New York has been, and will continue to be, a magnet for people from all over the world. This is where the arts, business, research and technology converge to create the world's foremost urban economy. ~ Michael Bloomberg
Urban Femininity quotes by Michael Bloomberg
The city of Cork - the urban center, where all the shops and bars and everything are - is actually an island, a river island. ~ John Jeremiah Sullivan
Urban Femininity quotes by John Jeremiah Sullivan
I don't think of myself as a rebellious artist, a lot of people have said that about me because I came from Cornwall and choose to paint people in what they considered to be an urban style instead of Cornish landscapes. I've never agreed with them. It's bullshit. ~ Danny Fox
Urban Femininity quotes by Danny Fox
I was flipping back and forth between do and don't quicker than they were serving up flapjacks down at the diner, he was getting closer to me.... close enough that I could smell him.... smell the heat that he threw off and that other certain energy that was pouring off of him right now at levels I'd not seen since Chernobyl. If I didn't move soon, I'd be in trouble... or ecstasy. ~ Donna Augustine
Urban Femininity quotes by Donna Augustine
Levelling my stare at him I drop a hint like a penny into a well, You mentioned you were tied up. Win, you should have reserved that privilege for me. ~ Poppet
Urban Femininity quotes by Poppet
She smells of her cooking and the perfume Eau d'Hadrien. My mother wore it, too. She used to cook, like Lili. Our house smelled of garlic and thyme instead of sadness. ~ Jennifer Donnelly
Urban Femininity quotes by Jennifer Donnelly
The 1890s was a decade when life began to change in urban America. Modern conveniences that we now take for granted came into use; women's roles became less restrictive; and San Francisco, a port city with influences from all over the world, was a lively place in which to reside. ~ Marcia Muller
Urban Femininity quotes by Marcia Muller
I am in awe, in admiration of the man who Gaius Julius Caesar was. I don't actually do him as the man himself. He is maybe a distant relative. It's hard to approach the real man because he is such an awesome icon. ~ Karl Urban
Urban Femininity quotes by Karl Urban
A city is not an accident but the result of coherent visions and aims. ~ Leon Krier
Urban Femininity quotes by Leon Krier

Urban Femininity quotes by Linda Howard
They're my peace offering for starting over. I gave you one once before, only to deceive you in the most unimaginable way. But not this time, this time, I assure you, my intentions are pure."
"So, you're not trying to seduce me?" I asked, only to prolong what I knew was coming. I wasn't sure I was ready for it. His lids were getting heavy and I could feel the sexual tension building between us.
There was a gentle pressure at the back of my neck, pulling me closer, his face so close I could smell the wine we shared on his breath.
"I said my intentions were pure. That doesn't mean I don't intend to seduce you, Cassie. ~ L.J. Kentowski
Urban Femininity quotes by L.J. Kentowski

Welcome to the house of Gray and Graves where we never lie still and death is only the beginning ... ~ C.M. Stunich
Urban Femininity quotes by C.M. Stunich
The old frame house down near the waterfront had never held so many people since the day it was put up. It must have been a pleasant place fifty years before: trees overhanging the limpid water, cows grazing in the meadows on both sides of the river, little frame houses like this one dotting the banks here and there.
It wasn't a pleasant place any more: garbage scows, coal yards, the river a greasy gray soup. Dead-end blocks of decrepit tenements on one side of it, lumberyards and ice-plants and tall stacks on the other.
The house was set far back from the street, hemmed in by the blank walls that rose around it.
("I Wouldn't Be In Your Shoes") ~ Cornell Woolrich
Urban Femininity quotes by Cornell Woolrich
The wolves wait for you, little lamb. ~ Keri Lake
Urban Femininity quotes by Keri Lake

Urban Femininity quotes by Karl Urban
The leaves were sun-baked lizards, stirring towards the sea that churned its chain of silver snakes, which would, if given half the chance, coil round, pull him out of this urban setting, vomit him on dry land. ~ Ann Quin
Urban Femininity quotes by Ann Quin

Nobody can influence me, nobody. Still less a woman. Women are important in a man's life only if they're beautiful and charming and keep their femininity. ~ Mohammed Reza Pahlavi
Urban Femininity quotes by Mohammed Reza Pahlavi
The world is getting so reality-driven these days. It seems to be accelerating exponentially. But it's a dangerous game for a lot of people. ~ Keith Urban
Urban Femininity quotes by Keith Urban
Whether we can somehow listen in on tree talk is a subject that was recently addressed in the specialized literature. Korean scientists have been tracking older women as they walk through forests and urban areas. The result? When the women were walking in the forest, their blood pressure, their lung capacity, and the elasticity of their arteries improved, whereas an excursion into town showed none of these changes. It's possible that phytoncides have a beneficial effect on our immune systems as well as the trees' health, because they kill germs. Personally, however, I think the swirling cocktail of tree talk is the reason we enjoy being out in the forest so much. At least when we are out in undisturbed forests.

Walkers who visit one of the ancient deciduous preserves in the forest I manage always report that their heart feels lighter and they feel right at home. If they walk instead through coniferous forests, which in Central Europe are mostly planted and are, therefore, more fragile, artificial places, they don't experience such feelings. Possibly it's because in ancient beech forests, fewer "alarm calls" go out, and therefore, most messages exchanged between trees are contented ones, and these messages reach our brains as well, via our noses. I am convinced that we intuitively register the forest's health. ~ Peter Wohlleben
Urban Femininity quotes by Peter Wohlleben
Hope could ruin a man who faced forever. ~ Lisa Kessler
