um...he doesn't know your gone?" he said.

Anna caught herself. "oh," she said. "is that a problem?"

"pft! No. Of course not!" Lied Jack. "I think it's awesome. Otherwise you wouldn't be here with me, right?"

"That's right," Sang Anna.

Images of Mr. Shepherd ripping out Jack's lungs and gazing into his gaping chestwould flooded into his mind.

"So!" Said Anna cheerily. "what do you want to do now?"

Get you home before your dand tracks me down and kills me, thought Jack... ~ Matthew Kaddish
Scienc Fiction quotes by Matthew Kaddish
In an era where Existence is incontestable, Truth is subjective, and Reality is perceived, fiction must mediate between the three. ~ Henry Martin
Scienc Fiction quotes by Henry Martin
I believe in moderation. But I wouldn't overdo it. ~ Joseph Ferguson
Scienc Fiction quotes by Joseph Ferguson
Dune is the bestselling science fiction book of all time. It's something you really need to read in your lifetime. If you're going to read The Lord of the Rings, which everyone should, then you have to read Dune, too. ~ Kevin J. Anderson
Scienc Fiction quotes by Kevin J. Anderson
The professions of novelist and journalist are very separate. As a novelist, you are ultimately working for yourself. Yes, you need the approval of a publisher and an audience, but what is valued in fiction writing - style, individual voice, insight - is scorned by the editor who is combing through your newspaper article. ~ Jon Weisman
Scienc Fiction quotes by Jon Weisman
I suspect that every teacher hears the same complaints, but that, being seldom a practicing author, he tends to dismiss them as out of his field, or to see in them evidence that the troubled student has not the true vocation. Yet it is these very pupils who are most obviously gifted who suffer from these disabilities, and the more sensitively organized they are the higher the hazard seems to them. Your embryo journalist or hack writer seldom asks for help of any sort; he is off after agents and editors while his more serious brother-in-arms is suffering the torments of the damned because of his insufficiencies. Yet instruction in writing is oftenest aimed at the oblivious tradesman of fiction, and the troubles of the artist are dismissed or overlooked. ~ Dorothea Brande
Scienc Fiction quotes by Dorothea Brande
Every word is autobiographical, and every word is fiction. ~ William S. Burroughs
Scienc Fiction quotes by William S. Burroughs
Ezekiel 25:17. "The path of the righteous man is beset on all sides by the inequities of the selfish and the tyranny of evil men. Blessed is he who, in the name of charity and good will, shepherds the weak through the valley of the darkness. For he is truly his brother's keeper and the finder of lost children. And I will strike down upon thee with great vengeance and furious anger those who attempt to poison and destroy my brothers. And you will know I am the Lord when I lay my vengeance upon you." I been sayin' that shit for years. And if you ever heard it, it meant your ass. I never really questioned what it meant. I thought it was just a cold-blooded thing to say to a motherfucker before you popped a cap in his ass. But I saw some shit this mornin' made me think twice. Now I'm thinkin': it could mean you're the evil man. And I'm the righteous man. And Mr. .45 here, he's the shepherd protecting my righteous ass in the valley of darkness. Or it could be you're the righteous man and I'm the shepherd and it's the world that's evil and selfish. I'd like that. But that shit ain't the truth. The truth is you're the weak. And I'm the tyranny of evil men. But I'm tryin, Ringo. I'm tryin' real hard to be the shepherd.

he became the shepherd instead of the vengeance.

Jules Winnfield- Samuel L. Jackson ~ Quentin Tarantino
Scienc Fiction quotes by Quentin Tarantino
Ivy turned. 'He bit you on the neck?' she said, deadpan serious but for her eyes. 'Oh, then it's got to be love. She won't let me bite her neck. ~ Kim Harrison
Scienc Fiction quotes by Kim Harrison
The girl I'd been just an hour ago was gone; she'd been obliterated. I had no idea who I was, now. ~ Amy Hatvany
Scienc Fiction quotes by Amy Hatvany
As for the new world war that's waiting in the womb of time, a healthily developed foetus, who can say what will spark it, how destructive it will be? We've already played at this war in film and fiction, indicating that there's a part of us that desperately wants it. What nonsense writers and filmmakers talk when they say that their terrible visions are meant as a warning. [ ... ] It's sheer wish fulfillment. War ... is a culture pattern. It's a legitimate mode of cultural transmission ... ~ Anthony Burgess
Scienc Fiction quotes by Anthony Burgess
Sitting down with a great book means that when you stand up, you will be a completely different person from who you were when you sat down. ~ Craig D. Lounsbrough
Scienc Fiction quotes by Craig D. Lounsbrough
It kills me. The way he trusted. LIke the way we trusted before they came and blue the whole goddamned world apart. Trusted that when it got dark there would be light. Trusted that when you wanted a fucking strawberry Frappuccino you could plop your ass in the car, drive down the streed, and get yourself a fucking strawberry Frappuccino! ~ Rick Yancey
Scienc Fiction quotes by Rick Yancey
Here grew willows and alders, their trunks twisted like giants' sinews. Around them bark lichen bloomed blue-white in the darkness. It felt like a good place, where there was old magic. ~ Duncan Harper
Scienc Fiction quotes by Duncan Harper
Sex is like God, really. I know they're both important, but if I think about them too much my head hurts." -The Best Kept Secret ~ Wendi Nunnery
Scienc Fiction quotes by Wendi Nunnery
Goodreads.com is actually about fiction not dreading goo. But I have a profile there, anyway... ~ Michael A. Arnzen
Scienc Fiction quotes by Michael A. Arnzen
Not everything in life is so black and white, but the authenticity of the Book of Mormon and its keystone role in our religion seem to be exactly that. Either Joseph Smith was the prophet he said he was, a prophet who, after seeing the Father and the Son, later beheld the angel Moroni, repeatedly heard counsel from Moroni's lips, and eventually received at his hands a set of ancient gold plates that he then translated by the gift and power of God, or else he did not. And if he did not, he would not be entitled to the reputation of New England folk hero or well-meaning young man or writer of remarkable fiction. No, nor would he be entitled to be considered a great teacher, a quintessential American religious leader, or the creator of great devotional literature. If he had lied about the coming forth of the Book of Mormon, he would certainly be none of these...

If Joseph Smith did not translate the Book of Mormon as a work of ancient origin, then I would move heaven and earth to meet the "real" nineteenth-century author. After one hundred and fifty years, no one can come up with a credible alternative candidate, but if the book were false, surely there must be someone willing to step forward-if no one else, at least the descendants of the "real" author-claiming credit for such a remarkable document and all that has transpired in its wake. After all, a writer that can move millions can make millions. Shouldn't someone have come forth then or now to cashier the whole p ~ Jeffrey R. Holland
Scienc Fiction quotes by Jeffrey R. Holland
I never sleep. Like the dolphin and the spiny anteater, I don't experience REM. Unlike the dreamless mammals, I'm a construct. I am a living program inside a vast network of electronic impulses known as the LINK. In that datastream I've uncovered the meaning of another kind of dreaming
that of a fond hope or aspiration, a yearning, a desire, or a passion. This much I have. When I dream, I dream of Mecca. ~ Lyda Morehouse
Scienc Fiction quotes by Lyda Morehouse
Well,Sir," she began,"I am twenty-one years old & still a virgin. I have never experienced sexual intercourse. My hymen is not broken.Old men say that a virgin`s Nectar is good for them. I understand that you want to buy. I want to sell."[MMT] ~ Nicholas Chong
Scienc Fiction quotes by Nicholas Chong
I hand him the single greatest work of fiction known to man: my resume. ~ Tyler Knight
Scienc Fiction quotes by Tyler Knight
Fiction is a set of observable manifestations, as represented and frozen in language, that triggers a profoundly subjective and individual experience.

Ultimately, this is the kind of productive dilemma that can allow fiction to get to places that other media does not. Fiction is exceptionally good at providing models for consciousness, and at putting readers in a position to take upon themselves the structure of another consciousness for a short while. It is better at this than any other genre or media, and can do it in any number of modes (realistic or metafictional, reliably or unreliably, representationally or metafictionally, etc.). But for it to be able to do this as well as it possibly can, it must clear a space. This is where, for me, doing without becomes most crucial.

The subtractions that we find in innovative fictions (even when those subtractions, as in Joyce's work, are followed by further ornamentations and encrustations) are there to facilitate the simulation of consciousness. What is subtracted is the significance and meaning designed to let us classify an experience without entering into it. Doing without such things opens the door wider for experience, putting the reader in a position where they are experiencing fiction in lieu of understanding it.

By paying more attention to what we leave out than to how readers are going to interpret or work after the fact, we refuse to let fiction be assimilable, digestible, and safe. We k ~ Brian Evenson
Scienc Fiction quotes by Brian Evenson
Let it be understood, in the first place, that a science fiction story must be an exposition of a scientific theme and it must be also a story. ~ Hugo Gernsback
Scienc Fiction quotes by Hugo Gernsback
You must be hard on yourself and know when it's time to quit, but you must be even more relentless when it comes to staying on the job and push through if that is what the situation is demanding. ~ Chris Erzfeld
Scienc Fiction quotes by Chris Erzfeld
I thought he was the man I'd been waiting for. A hero right out of Austen. The one who would finally make everything okay. Only he wasn't real. Like Austen's characters, he was fiction. Mr. Darcy broke my heart. ~ Beth Pattillo
Scienc Fiction quotes by Beth Pattillo
It was as though everything that mattered was encapsulated in that last moment of my blissful state of oblivion. ~ Sarah Swainson
Scienc Fiction quotes by Sarah Swainson
Vomit began to spill out of me like pea soup, splattering the road with champagne and caviar, long island iced teas, of bacon appetizers and croissants, and a perfectly grilled filet mignonette. It had gone down easy, among the kiss ups of the lawyer world, but spewed out nastily and hard, in the company of a cheater. ~ Keira D. Skye
Scienc Fiction quotes by Keira D. Skye
The writer has no rights at all except those he forges for himself inside his own work. We have become so flooded with sorry fiction based on unearned liberties, or on the notion that fiction must represent the typical, that in the public mind the deeper kinds of realism are less and less understandable. ~ Flannery O'Connor
Scienc Fiction quotes by Flannery O'Connor
I go where I want to go, I do what I want to do, and I am beholden to no one. ~ Mark M. DeRobertis
Scienc Fiction quotes by Mark M. DeRobertis
Books can be viewed as food for the mind

Stop reading and your brain can become anemic

Read junk and your thinking can become malnourished

But handle your diet with books well and your life long learning never stops ~ Jonathan Frakes
Scienc Fiction quotes by Jonathan Frakes
Fictions of law must be consistent with justice. ~ William Henry Maule
Scienc Fiction quotes by William Henry Maule
Meanwhile here I am- Earthborn woman, a mere barbaric maula, geting deeper into Imperial Space with each passing light second. I should be trembling with fear, I suppouse.
No. Let the Emperor tremble. Laylah is here! ~ Robert Silverberg
Scienc Fiction quotes by Robert Silverberg
For me, fiction's great gift - to writer and reader, alike - is freedom. ~ Norman Lock
Scienc Fiction quotes by Norman Lock
The seeking of a mate shall be undertaken with due preparation and care. A life-bond should never be contemplated as a light thing
unlike a legal union or sanctified joining, the sealing of souls CANNOT be severed. When a mate is SOULBOUND to another
LIFEMATED, as some have come to regard it
a mystery is engaged. In one aspect mystical, the lifemating process is the most sublime endeavor that a Refarian may assume. Once formed, the bond must be ever cherished and nurtured by the process of lifelong rigor. ~ Deidre Knight
Scienc Fiction quotes by Deidre Knight
It's time for a change. You have to loosen up and live life. Better yet, enjoy life. ~ Charlena E. Jackson
