School Journal quotes by Danika Stone
Life is just high school all over again, only with bigger bills to pay. ~ Linda Palmer
School Journal quotes by Linda Palmer
I didn't actually have a prom. In Australia, we call them 'socials,' which is hilarious. I did always find them pretty awkward, because I went to an all-girls school. ~ Robin McLeavy
School Journal quotes by Robin McLeavy
All of my main characters are based on my friends and people I met during High School and College. ~ Dana Journey
School Journal quotes by Dana Journey
I wrote a piece for the school literary magazine that now makes me think: 'My God in Heaven, this is just the worst drivel.' ~ Pat Conroy
School Journal quotes by Pat Conroy
It was 1976.
It was one of the darkest days of my life when that nurse, Mrs. Shimmer, pulled out a maxi pad that measured the width and depth of a mattress and showed us how to use it. It had a belt with it that looked like a slingshot that possessed the jaw-dropping potential to pop a man's head like a gourd. As she stretched the belt between the fingers of her two hands, Mrs. Shimmer told us becoming a woman was a magical and beautiful experience.

I remember thinking to myself, You're damn right it had better be magic, because that's what it's going to take to get me to wear something like that, Tinkerbell! It looked like a saddle. Weighed as much as one, too. Some girls even cried.
I didn't.
I raised my hand.
"Mrs. Shimmer," I asked the cautiously, "so what kind of security napkins do boys wear when their flower pollinates? Does it have a belt, too?"
The room got quiet except for a bubbling round of giggles.
"You haven't been paying attention, have you?" Mrs. Shimmer accused sharply. "Boys have stamens, and stamens do not require sanitary napkins. They require self control, but you'll learn that soon enough."
I was certainly hoping my naughty bits (what Mrs. Shimmer explained to us was like the pistil of a flower) didn't get out of control, because I had no idea what to do if they did. ~ Laurie Notaro
School Journal quotes by Laurie Notaro
If only people realized Corbusier is pure nineteenth century, Manchester school utilitarian, and that's why they like him. ~ Evelyn Waugh
School Journal quotes by Evelyn Waugh
As a child, I tried to play by the rules. I got very good grades in school; I was an Eagle Scout; and I believed in all of it. ~ George Meyer
School Journal quotes by George Meyer
I've never studied anything formally. I was excluded from school at the age of 17, so I am an autodidact, which is a word that I have taught myself. ~ Alan Moore
School Journal quotes by Alan Moore
I can assure you that there is no question of us throwing away the tradition of the Grammar Schools. ~ Hugh Gaitskell
School Journal quotes by Hugh Gaitskell
I never studied film formally at school, but as a kid, I spent most of my time in cinemas. ~ Wong Kar-Wai
School Journal quotes by Wong Kar-Wai
More often, I'd meet people like Brett Favre. Not literally like Brett Favre, in the sense that they were forty-year-old football players, but that they were people who loved Wisconsin but couldn't find a way to make it work there, took off for NewYork, crashed and burned, and then found a home for themselves here in the City of Lakes. Minneapolis is where the drama queens and burnouts and weirdos and misfits of the rural and suburban Upper Midwest wind up. It's a city full of people who, though they'd never say it, secretly suspect they don't belong here, that they're not Minneapolis enough, because they didn't go to a city high school, or because they didn't hang out at First Avenue when they were teenagers, or because they came from the suburbs, or from outstate. They came from the Iron Range or Fargo–Moorhead or Bloomington or White Bear Lake or Collegeville, or from Chicago or California or the Pacific Northwest or Mexico or Somalia. Wherever they came from, Minneapolis is their home now, and it belongs to them. It belongs to us. ~ Andy Sturdevant
School Journal quotes by Andy Sturdevant
There was religion, then there was God. Lianne wanted to disbelieve. Disbelief was the line of travel that led to clarity of thought and purpose. Or was this simply another form of superstition? She wanted to trust in the forces and processes of the natural world, this only, perceptible reality and scientific endeavor, men and women alone on earth. She knew there was no conflict between science and God. Take one with the other. But she didn't want to. There were the scholars and philosophers she'd studied in school, books she'd read at thrilling dispatches, personal, making her shake at times, and there was the sacred art she'd always loved. Doubters created this work, and ardent believers, and those who'd doubted and then believed, and she was free to think about doubt and believe simultaneously. But she didn't want to. God would crowd her, make her weaker. God would be a presence that remained unimaginable. She wanted this only, to snuff out the pulse of the shaky faith she'd held for much of her life. ~ Don DeLillo
School Journal quotes by Don DeLillo
A number of girls of my acquaintance went to school to the nuns of the Congregational Nunnery, or Sisters of Charity, as they are sometimes called. ~ Maria Monk
School Journal quotes by Maria Monk
It's like I've experienced quite a weird and unusual life, you know, being with a mom who's a single parent and struggling with money and things like that. It's really hard. And it brings a lot of other insecurities in life and a lot of other issues in life, in school and a bunch of other things. ~ Fefe Dobson
School Journal quotes by Fefe Dobson
Arleen thanked Pana. Getting off the phone, she thanked Jesus. She smiled. When she smiled she looked like a different person. The press had loosened its grip. From landlords, she had heard eighty-nine nos but one yes.

Jori accepted his mother's high five. He and his brother would have to switch schools. Jori didn't care. He switched schools all the time. Between seventh and eighth grades, he had attended five different schools - when he went at all. At the domestic-violence shelter alone, Jori had racked up seventeen consecutive absences. Arleen saw school as a higher-order need, something to worry about after she found a house. ~ Matthew Desmond
School Journal quotes by Matthew Desmond
Second, they [those who disagree with market efficiency] always claim they know a man, a bank, or a fund that does do better. Alas, anecdotes are not science. And once Wharton School dissertations seek to quantify the performers, these have a tendency to evaporate into the air - or, at least, into statistically insignificant t-statistics. ~ Paul Samuelson
School Journal quotes by Paul Samuelson
When I was a boy I was called a nerd all the time - because I didn't like sports, I loved to read, I liked math and science, I thought school was really cool - and it hurt a lot. Because it's never ok when a person makes fun of you for something you didn't choose. You know, we don't choose to be nerds. We can't help it that we like these things - and we shouldn't apologize for liking these things. ~ Wil Wheaton
School Journal quotes by Wil Wheaton
I was quite into biology and chemistry at school, and I did well in my maths, so I quite fancied a career in forensics or something like that. But I bet if you put a maths exam paper in front of me now I wouldn't have a clue. ~ Nikki Sanderson
School Journal quotes by Nikki Sanderson
There is an inherent tolerance and kindness in the state school teenagers I know. ~ Arabella Weir
School Journal quotes by Arabella Weir
Harriet dreamt of someone well dressed and flamboyant, who spoke like the lead in a black and white film, who drank champagne like other people drank Carling and who could talk about history and philosophy and life for hours, without making themselves sound like an idiot. Someone who made romantic gestures, who was generous to everyone and extravagant towards her. Someone, for preference, who rowed and had the muscles to prove it. When she was really having a bad day, someone with a title. Every time a well-meaning access scheme leaflet tried to reassure her and all the other state school applicants that Oxford wasn't wall to wall Old Etonians permanently dressed in tuxedos, she died a little inside. ~ Georgiana Derwent
School Journal quotes by Georgiana Derwent
If you make me lunch," he said, "will you put it in a brown paper bag? ... Because when I see kids come to school with their lunch in a paper bag, that means that someone cares about them. Miss Laura, can I please have my lunch in a paper bag? ~ Laura Schroff
School Journal quotes by Laura Schroff
I don't care about being a literary personality - that doesn't appeal to me, especially because the literary world doesn't appeal to me. I actually don't feel like I even belong in it. If this was high school, I would be sitting with the Goths, looking at everyone, being like, 'Whatever.' ~ Ottessa Moshfegh
School Journal quotes by Ottessa Moshfegh
I believe that it is girls' human rights to go to school to be educated, minimum, until they are 18. ~ Guler Sabanci
School Journal quotes by Guler Sabanci
Talent is important, and some background as well. This really is not beginner's school. I want to work with people that have achieved a certain level and with whom i can easily communicate, which means you don't have to do too much explaining so you won't waste precious time. I don't do much explaining during rehersals and we are just adjusting minor details. Simply, there is no space nor time for one to learn and each of them has to do their homework on time. That means practising, transitioning from a level to level. ~ Vlatko Stefanovski
School Journal quotes by Vlatko Stefanovski
I played team sport as a kid and loved it. I played basketball and football throughout high school into college in the intramurals and I loved it. There was nothing like a team. ~ Tom Watson
School Journal quotes by Tom Watson
I went to a private all-girls school where I didn't feel I fit in. ~ Gia Coppola
School Journal quotes by Gia Coppola
I keep a diary in order to enter the wonderful secrets of my life. If I didn't write them down, I should not probably forget all about them. ~ Oscar Wilde
School Journal quotes by Oscar Wilde
High school and college were my punk, formative years. I was playing hardcore, learning to be a musician. In bands, you tour, but you're paid nothing; you're playing to 50 people in a basement, sleeping in a van, and you love it. ~ Steve Aoki
School Journal quotes by Steve Aoki
When I was 15, I was scouted at the mall by Elite Model Management. I started to go to New York on the bus in high school, which was about four hours door-to-door from my hometown, until I moved to New York and lived in models' apartments all over. ~ Krysten Ritter
