Munters India quotes by Debajani Mohanty
One of the first books of travel, giving European readers some insight into the unfamiliar world of the Orient, was published in 1356-67 in Anglo-Norman French. Called simply Travels, it was said to be by Sir John Mandeville, but a French historian, Jean d'Outremeuse, may well have written the book. It is a highly entertaining guide for pilgrims to the Holy Land, but goes beyond, taking the reader as far as Tartary, Persia, India and Egypt, recounting more fantasy than fact, but containing geographical details to give the work credence.

Mandeville's book whetted the Western European reader's appetite for the travel book as a journal of marvels: dry scientific detail was not what these readers wanted. Rather it was imagination plus information. Thus, myths of 'the fountain of youth' and of gold-dust lying around 'like ant-hills' caught the Western imagination, and, when the voyagers of the late fifteenth and sixteenth centuries found 'new worlds' in the Americas, these myths were enlarged and expanded, as Eldorado joined the Golden Road to Samarkand in the imagination of readers concerning distant lands. ~ Ronald Carter
Munters India quotes by Ronald Carter
I also know Patrick White in Australia, both personally and as a writer, and Salman Rushdie in India. ~ William Golding
Munters India quotes by William Golding
Our culture is our strength be it music, dance, poetry or anything, and these are very precious. ~ Narendra Modi
Munters India quotes by Narendra Modi
Khaddar has the greatest organizing power in it because it has itself to be organized and because it affects all India. ~ Mahatma Gandhi
Munters India quotes by Mahatma Gandhi
It had borne all the ships whose names are like jewels flashing in the night of time, from the Golden Hind returning with her round flanks full of treasure, to be visited by the Queen's Highness and thus pass out of the gigantic tale, to the Erebus and Terror, bound on other conquests - and that never returned. It had known the ships and the men. They had sailed from Deptford, from Greenwich, from Erith - the adventurers and the settlers; kings' ships and the ships of men on 'Change; captains, admirals, the dark "interlopers" of the Eastern trade, and the commissioned "generals" of East India fleets. Hunters for gold or pursuers of fame, they all had gone out on that stream, bearing the sword, and often the torch, messengers of the might within the land, bearers of a spark from the sacred fire. What greatness had not floated on the ebb of that river into the mystery of an unknown earth! . . . The dreams of men, the seed of commonwealths, the germs of empires. ~ Joseph Conrad
Munters India quotes by Joseph Conrad
My personal style is ever changing. ~ India De Beaufort
Munters India quotes by India De Beaufort
We, the present generation, have the responsibility to act as a trustee of the rich natural wealth for the future generations. The issue is not merely about climate change; it is about climate justice. ~ Narendra Modi
Munters India quotes by Narendra Modi

Munters India quotes by Nandan Nilekani
...the thing he said that stuck with me was that people are alone here in America. They're all alone. And they don't trust anyone except themselves, and they don't rely on anyone except themselves. He said that was why he thought India would survive all this apocalyptic shit, but America wouldn't. Because here, no knew their neighbors. ~ Paolo Bacigalupi
Munters India quotes by Paolo Bacigalupi
Kochi, formerly called Cochin, is a former European settlement with a large Christian population and a seafaring heritage. It is a town of enormous charm that reminds some visitors of the Caribbean more than India. ~ Gary Weiss
Munters India quotes by Gary Weiss
India's way is not Europe's. India is not Calcutta and Bombay. India lives in her seven hundred thousand villages. ~ Mahatma Gandhi
Munters India quotes by Mahatma Gandhi

Munters India quotes by Jamshyd Godrej
Let those men who still have these misguided ideas, let those men who still have these hallucinations, realize that by anarchism, by dastardly crimes, they cannot bring about good government; let them realize that these methods have not succeeded in any country of the world and are not likely to succeed in India. ~ Muhammad Ali Jinnah
Munters India quotes by Muhammad Ali Jinnah
India wants to help Nepal build highways (H), information highways (I) and transways - transmission lines (T). ~ Narendra Modi
Munters India quotes by Narendra Modi
But Khair did not need such proof of her husband's love for her. Over and over again, James had risked everything for her. Most reationshps in life can survive - or not - without being put to any real crucial, fundamental test. It was James's fate for his love to be tested not once, but four times...At each stage he could easily have washed his hands off his teenage lover. Each time he chose to remain true to her. That, not the words of any will, was the evidence she could cling to. ~ William Dalrymple
Munters India quotes by William Dalrymple
Finally, it is also worth noting that nearly every institution of post-independence India has been spearheaded by Brahminical elites. Their dismal performance in delivering even basic social services to the majority of Indians - of education, health, water, sanitation, and electricity - says volumes about their 'merit' and argues against leaving them in control of these institutions. ~ Namit Arora
Munters India quotes by Namit Arora
Much of India that we dream of still lies ahead of us: housing, power, water and sanitation for all; bank accounts and insurance for every citizen; connected and prosperous villages; and, smart and sustainable cities. ~ Narendra Modi
Munters India quotes by Narendra Modi
In India, the eldest has the most responsibility and the crown goes to him. The crown could go to a person with the most talent. But how could 'most talent' be determined? So Indian society settled on age. ~ Devdutt Pattanaik
Munters India quotes by Devdutt Pattanaik
Every person is a Hindu who regards and owns this Bharat Bhumi, this land from the Indus to the seas, as his Fatherland as well as Holyland, i.e. the land of the origin of his religion ( ... ) Consequently the so-called aboriginal or hill tribes also are Hindus: because India is their Fatherland as well as their Holyland of whatever form of religion or worship they follow. ~ Vinayak Damodar Savarkar
Munters India quotes by Vinayak Damodar Savarkar
India seeks to be a permanent member of the U.N. Security Council ... things like this don't happen automatically, you need constant dialogue and discussion with the world. ~ Pratibha Patil
Munters India quotes by Pratibha Patil

Munters India quotes by Ashwin Sanghi
Although the mortality rate was erratic, ranging from one fifth in some places to nine tenths or almost total elimination in others, the overall estimate of modern demographers has settled - for the area extending from India to Iceland - around the same figure expressed in Froissart's casual words: "a third of the world died. ~ Barbara W. Tuchman
Munters India quotes by Barbara W. Tuchman
Indians are the Italians of Asia and vice versa. Every man in both countries is a singer when he is happy, and every woman is a dancer when she walks to the shop at the corner. For them, food is the music inside the body and music is the food inside the heart. Amore or Pyar makes every man a poet, a princess of peasant girl if only for second eyes of man and woman meets. ~ Gregory David Roberts
Munters India quotes by Gregory David Roberts
Fifty three per cent children in India face sexual abuse - both boys and girls - but we still feel uncomfortable talking about it. We are still hypocrites when it comes to issues like child abuse, sex or for that matter homosexuality. It is high time that we brought the issue from under the carpet. ~ Rahul Bose
Munters India quotes by Rahul Bose
Let us build a SAARC satellite which we can dedicate to our neighbourhood, as a gift from India. ~ Narendra Modi
Munters India quotes by Narendra Modi
Religion is trust, and that trust arose in the beginning from the impressions made on the mind and heart of man by the order and wisdom of nature, and more particularly, by those regularly recurring events, the return of the sun, the revival of the moon, the order of the seasons, the law of cause and effect, gradually discovered in all things, and traced back in the end to a cause of all causes, by whatever name we choose to call it. ~ Friedrich Max Muller
Munters India quotes by Friedrich Max Muller

Munters India quotes by Malala Yousafzai
When I left England, my hope of India's conversion was very strong; but amongst so many obstacles, it would die, unless upheld by God. Well, I have God, and His Word is true. Though the superstitions of the heathen were a thousand times stronger than they are, and the example of the Europeans a thousand times worse; though I were deserted by all and persecuted by all, yet my faith, fixed on the sure Word, would rise above all obstructions and overcome every trial. God's cause will triumph. (William Carey, quoted in Iain Murray, The Puritan Hope, Banner of Truth 1971, p 140.) ~ William Carey
Munters India quotes by William Carey
If there is any substance in what I have said, will not the great missionary bodies of India, to whom she owes a deep debt of gratitude for what they have done and are doing, do still better and serve the spirit of Christianity better by dropping the goal of proselytising while continuing their philanthropic work? ~ Mahatma Gandhi
Munters India quotes by Mahatma Gandhi

With the idea that a single creator can build a society wherein a huge number of people will live, Le Corbusier later approached Stalin. In India, he charmed a powerful provincial family and ended up making huge, sculptural relics in Chandigarh. ~ Masato Otaka
Munters India quotes by Masato Otaka
Make choices that are loving for yourself - with your diet, your relationships, and in speaking your loving truth - that are in alignment with what you want to be doing. When you see that in a person, you are seeing their passion and fulfillment, and that person feels good to you because they feel good to themselves. I know that I feel good and I think that comes across on stage; when I didn't feel good before, I think that came across on stage. ~ India.Arie
Munters India quotes by India.Arie
