What do you have to say as a devout Muslim concerning your lust for women? ~ Naguib Mahfouz
Devout Muslim quotes by Naguib Mahfouz
A child who had been introduced to misery in Saudi Arabia, a teenager who went to wage jihad against the Soviets in Afghanistan, a deeply devout Muslim who had graduated with honors in medicine, a man who had fed a stranger to wild dogs in Damascus, a zealot who had dosed three foreigners with smallpox and watched them die in agony, gave thanks to Allah for the blessings that had been bestowed upon him. ~ Terry Hayes
Devout Muslim quotes by Terry Hayes
History shows that the devout Muslim fundamentalists are one of the most lethal threats the world has ever known. ~ Hal Lindsey
Devout Muslim quotes by Hal Lindsey
She could have had an affair with him. He was a devout Muslim, as were all the guerrillas, but she doubted whether that would have made any difference. She believed what her father had used to say: "Religious conviction may thwart a timid desire but nothing can stand against genuine lust. ~ Ken Follett
Devout Muslim quotes by Ken Follett
My family is Muslim. But I don't consider myself a very devout Muslim, but a cultural Muslim, whatever that means. ~ Aasif Mandvi
Devout Muslim quotes by Aasif Mandvi
I have a friend - or had a friend, now dead - Abdus Salam, a very devout Muslim, who was trying to bring science into the universities in the Gulf states and he told me that he had a terrible time because, although they were very receptive to technology, they felt that science would be a corrosive to religious belief, and they were worried about it ... and damn it, I think they were right. It is corrosive of religious belief, and it's a good thing too. ~ Steven Weinberg
Devout Muslim quotes by Steven Weinberg
Saddam Hussein was not an Islamist. He's not a radical jihadist. He's not a radical Muslim. I mean, he was a - he was a Baathist. He was a secular - even though he professed to be a good and devout Muslim. ~ Rick Santorum
Devout Muslim quotes by Rick Santorum
Dissensions between Muslim nations run at least as deep, if not deeper, than those nations' resentment of the West. ~ Salman Rushdie
Devout Muslim quotes by Salman Rushdie
At an 1870 Anti-Slavery Society convention, Frederick Douglass proclaimed, 'I bow to no priests either of faith or of unfaith. I claim as against all sorts of people, simply perfect freedom of thought.' Douglass' comments were in response to black preachers' insistence he 'thank' God for Emancipation. His failure to be appropriately devout elicted a firestorm. After his speech, a group of prominent black preachers passed a Resolution censuring him....This rebuke was perhaps one of the first documented instances of the black 'authenticity police' trying to silence an eminent thinker. ~ Sikivu Hutchinson In Moral Combat Black Atheists Gender Politics And The Values Wars
Devout Muslim quotes by Sikivu Hutchinson In Moral Combat Black Atheists Gender Politics And The Values Wars
The Left, which dominates the media, the arts, and most of intellectual life in the West, has rendered criticism of Christianity and Zionism acceptable, even laudable, but criticism of Islam unacceptable. Why has the Left done this? Because the enemy (radical Islam) of my enemy (America and Israel) is my friend, and because the Muslim world is regarded as the underdog vis-à-vis powerful America and Israel, and the Left supports what it perceives as the underdog. ~ Dennis Prager
Devout Muslim quotes by Dennis Prager
[A]bove all, it has been the Qur'anic notion of the universe, as an expression of Allah's will and creation, that has inspired in diverse Muslim communities, generations of artists, scientists and philosophers? Scientific pursuits, philosophic inquiry and artistic endeavour are all seen as the response of the faithful to the recurring call of the Qur'an to ponder the creation as a way to understand Allah's benevolent majesty. As Sura al-Baqara proclaims: 'Wherever you turn, there is the face of Allah.'"

His Highness the Aga Khan's 2003 Address to the International Colloquium 'Word of God, Art of Man: The Qur'an and its Creative Expressions' organised by The Institute of Ismaili Studies (London, United Kingdom) ~ Aga Khan
Devout Muslim quotes by Aga Khan
It's no surprise that the Bush administration's bullying swagger and blithe ignorance have caused much of the Muslim world to hold the U.S. in rock-bottom regard. ~ Graydon Carter
Devout Muslim quotes by Graydon Carter
The prohibition on promoting a pawn to a queen while the original queen was still on the board was an attempt to preserve the uniqueness of the king's wife, his only permissible conjugal mate according to Christian doctrine. The Arabic game did not have to face that problem because a Muslim ruler could theoretically have as many viziers as he wanted. The idea of multiple queens on the chessboard proved so anxiety-making for Europeans that it remained a subject of contention for centuries to come. ~ Marilyn Yalom
Devout Muslim quotes by Marilyn Yalom
Before I became a Muslim, I ate pork and chased women
but all that stuff stopped. ~ Muhammad Ali
Devout Muslim quotes by Muhammad Ali
Hearing the word is the devout receiving of the will of God. ~ William Ames
Devout Muslim quotes by William Ames
The gnostic is Muslim in that his whole being is surrendered to God; he has no separate individual existence of his own. He is like the birds and the flowers in his yielding to the Creator; like them, like all the elements of the cosmos, he reflects the Divine to his own degree. He reflects it actively, however, they passively; his participation is a conscious one. ~ Seyyed Hossein Nasr
Devout Muslim quotes by Seyyed Hossein Nasr
It might seem singular that Nancy - with her religious theory pieced together out of narrow social traditions, fragments of church doctrine imperfectly understood, and girlish reasonings on her small experience - should have arrived by herself at a way of thinking so nearly akin to that of many devout people, whose beliefs are held in the shape of a system quite remote from her knowledge - singular, if we did not know that human beliefs, like all other natural growths, elude the barriers of system. ~ George Eliot
Devout Muslim quotes by George Eliot
Part of the French political class is realising that there is are large number of Muslim people coming from the ghettos who want to make themselves heard, politically, especially about foreign policy issues. Its electoral weight can bring back to the forefront the Palestinian issue. ~ Tariq Ramadan
Devout Muslim quotes by Tariq Ramadan
There is no more effective way to radicalize American Muslim youth than for political leaders to make public displays of prejudice against all Muslims. Suspicion will undermine their sense of identification with America and alienate some from both the culture and from politics. ~ Miroslav Volf
Devout Muslim quotes by Miroslav Volf
The truth of the matter is that although not all Muslims are terrorists, unfortunately, in today's world, most of the terrorists - 99 per cent - are Muslim. ~ Shohreh Aghdashloo
Devout Muslim quotes by Shohreh Aghdashloo
The Muslim population in India is, largely speaking, not radicalised. From the beginning, they were always very secular-minded. ~ Salman Rushdie
Devout Muslim quotes by Salman Rushdie
Except... what Jesus said was: "I will build My church," not you. The verse is not a prediction, it is a proclamation of the Lord of the Earth, who never once talked of "children in subjection." or "wives be grave... sober, faithful in all things." In fact, reading the New Testament from the Gospels into Paul's letters, is like watching the Wizard of Oz backwards -- going from a world of color and amazement, into a land of black-and-white with insane devout women trying to kill your dog. -- editorial 2014 ~ Glenn Hefley
Devout Muslim quotes by Glenn Hefley
The fact is that there is a serious problem of extremism with minority groups within Muslim communities. ~ Maajid Nawaz
Devout Muslim quotes by Maajid Nawaz
We are a people in more need of a little character than we are in need of an abundance of knowledge. ~ Abdullah Ibn Mubarak
Devout Muslim quotes by Abdullah Ibn Mubarak
I was born into Sudan's civil war, and before I could read or write, I was using an AK47 in the conflict between the Muslim north and Animist/Christian south over the land and natural resources. ~ Ger Duany
Devout Muslim quotes by Ger Duany
It is not our prayer and worship of God that makes God love us; rather, it's God's unconditional love for us that results in our worship. We do not pray for the love of God, but from the love of God. God's power inspires and allows us to pray, and it's that same divine power that we are calling to in prayer. As Rumi says, "I am a mountain. You call, I echo. ~ A. Helwa
Devout Muslim quotes by A. Helwa
Once a week, beginning at sunset on Friday and until sunset on Saturday, the family had to pause. A Jewish merchant had explained the Sabbath to Agios already, back in Egypt. No devout Hebrew could work or travel on that day. If they were near a temple, the family went there. If no temple was available, they prayed where they were. When ~ Glenn Beck
Devout Muslim quotes by Glenn Beck
Americans are going to see that as the more religious a Muslim is, the more likely they're going to end up somehow fighting for ISIS' cause. ~ Chuck Todd
Devout Muslim quotes by Chuck Todd
We usually speak of the Jewish-Christian civilization perhaps, the time has come, especially with regard to the Middle East conflict, to talk about the Jewish-Muslim civilization as an axis opposed to Christianity. ~ Slavoj Zizek
Devout Muslim quotes by Slavoj Zizek
Two things," the wise man said, "fill me with awe:
The starry heavens and the moral law."
Nay, add another wonder to thy roll, --
The living marvel of the human soul!

Born in the dust and cradled in the dark,
It feels the fire of an immortal spark,
And learns to read, with patient, searching eyes,
The splendid secret of the unconscious skies.

For God thought Light before He spoke the word;
The darkness understood not, though it heard:
But man looks up to where the planets swim,
And thinks God's thoughts of glory after Him.

What knows the star that guides the sailor's way,
Or lights the lover's bower with liquid ray,
Of toil and passion, danger and distress,
Brave hope, true love, and utter faithfulness?

But human hearts that suffer good and ill,
And hold to virtue with a loyal will,
Adorn the law that rules our mortal strife
With star-surpassing victories of life.

So take our thanks, dear reader of the skies,
Devout astronomer, most humbly wise,
For lessons brighter than the stars can give,
And inward light that helps us all to live.

The world has brought the laurel-leaves to crown
The star-discoverer's name with high renown;
Accept the flower of love we lay with these
For influence sweeter than the Pleiades ~ Henry Van Dyke
Devout Muslim quotes by Henry Van Dyke
When I walked out of the house with hijab on, i felt beautiful in the eyes of Allah. I felt protected, shielded - i just felt somebody was watching over me'
- Nadia, a reverted Muslim ~ Na'ima B. Robert
Devout Muslim quotes by Na'ima B. Robert
All the time she's silent. All the women were silent except the white one talking to Trent. If it wasn't for the red, green and gold and that the skirts are often denim, I'd think I was surrounded by Muslim women. ~ Marlon James
Devout Muslim quotes by Marlon James
We're taking action against evil people. Because this great nation of many religions understands, our war is not against Islam, or against faith practiced by the Muslim people. Our war is a war against evil. This is clearly a case of good versus evil, and make no mistake about it - good will prevail. ~ George W. Bush
Devout Muslim quotes by George W. Bush
Muslim organisations tend to have a low level of organisation. The communities in Europe are quite diverse. ~ Gijs De Vries
Devout Muslim quotes by Gijs De Vries
Americans have almost been conditioned to believe that the majority of people who seek to do us harm are those of Muslim descent. ~ Bennie Thompson
Devout Muslim quotes by Bennie Thompson
In 1517, few western Christians worried that Muslims might have a more convincing message to offer than Christianity or that Christian youth might start converting to Islam. The Turks were at the gate, it's true, but they weren't in the living room, and they certainly weren't in the bedroom. The Turks posed a threat to the physical health of Christians, but not to the spiritual health of Christianity.

Muslims were in a different boat. Almost from the start, as I've discussed, Islam had offered its political and military successes as an argument for its doctrines and a proof of its revelations. The process began with those iconic early battles at Badr and Uhud, when the outcome of battle was shown to have theological meaning. The miracle of expansion and the linkage of victory with truth continued for hundreds of years.

Then came the Mongol holocaust, which forced Muslim theologians to reexamine their assumptions. That process spawned such reforms as Ibn Taymiyah. Vis-a-vis the Mongols, however, the weakness of Muslims was concrete and easy to understand. The Mongols had greater killing power, but they came without an ideology. When the bloodshed wound down and the human hunger for meaning bubbled up, as it always does, they had nothing to offer. In fact, they themselves converted. Islam won in the end, absorbing the Mongols as it has absorbed the Turks before them and the Persians before that.

The same could not be said of the new overlor ~ Tamim Ansary
Devout Muslim quotes by Tamim Ansary
Every civilization:
Hindu, Buddhist, Confucianist, Christian, Jewish and Muslim, all of them understood that LEARNING was to make a BETTER HUMAN BEING, LEARNING was NOT to MAKE MORE MONEY;
It was to make a BETTER HUMAN BEING. ~ Hamza Yusuf
Devout Muslim quotes by Hamza Yusuf
The ascendancy over men's minds of the ruins of the stupendous past, the past of history, legend and myth, at once factual and fantastic, stretching back and back into ages that can but be surmised, is half-mystical in basis. The intoxication, at once so heady and so devout, is not the romantic melancholy engendered by broken towers and mouldered stones; it is the soaring of the imagination into the high empyrean where huge episodes are tangled with myths and dreams; it is the stunning impact of world history on its amazed heirs. ~ Rose Macaulay
