I get back in the Continental and continue down the road to the cafe. Then I pull in and there's Larry Johnson's '57 Ford pickup in the parking lot. As I enter the little cafe, I see Larry and Briggs in the corner, drinking some coffee and having a late breakfast. I go right over and sit down with them. We don't say much. David says something about Kirby getting a job at one of the studios. Kirby is very good with his hands and can fix anything, plus he has a very friendly personality. We are happy for him. Larry has to make a call and gets up, heading for the pay phone in the corner. He has us get him another coffee when the waitress comes back. Briggs looks at me and asks what I've been doing. ~ Neil Young
David Briggs quotes by Neil Young
Be great or be gone ~ David Briggs
David Briggs quotes by David Briggs
Briggs was living in Toronto at the time and had started a studio called Thunder Sound. He recorded the Massey Hall show. He thought this live show should have come out right away and was disappointed and disagreed with my decision to instead put out Harvest-he thought it was not as good as the Massey Hall recording.
"It's great, Neil," Briggs said. "Put it out there." But that was not to be.
When I heard the show thirty-four years later while reviewing tapes for my archive performance series, I was a little shocked-I agreed with David. After listening, I felt his frustration. This was better than Harvest. It meant more. He was right. I had missed it. He understood it. David was usually right, and when I disagreed with him, I was usually wrong. Every time I go into the studio or onstage, he is missed. ~ Neil Young
David Briggs quotes by Neil Young
In the end she just said ... All I did was to run away for a few minutes! All I wanted was to be free! ~ David Almond
David Briggs quotes by David Almond
I respect not his labors, his farm where everything has its price, who would carry the landscape, who would carry his God, to market, if he could get anything for him; who goes to market for his god as it is; on whose farm nothing grows free, whose fields bear no crops, whose meadows no flowers, whose trees no fruits, but dollars. ~ Henry David Thoreau
David Briggs quotes by Henry David Thoreau
The card for the Santa Teresa cybercafe was a deepred, so red that it was hard to read what was printed on it. On the back, in a lighter red, was a map that showed exactly where the cafe was located. He asked the receptionist to translate the name of the place. The clerk laughed and said it was called Fire, Walk With Me. ~ Roberto Bolano
David Briggs quotes by Roberto Bolano
Deficits. Most people of knowledge say it's the biggest single problem facing the economic free world. ~ David Hartman
David Briggs quotes by David Hartman
Terms are like shredded wheat - two are wonderful, but three might just be too many. ~ David Cameron
David Briggs quotes by David Cameron
Men do everything that men do, from waging war to reading books, for one purpose only: to get laid. ~ David Burr Gerrard
David Briggs quotes by David Burr Gerrard
Consider it this way: what would you say if a blond homecoming queen fell in love with a short Japanese businessman? He treats her cruelly, then goes home for three years, during which time she prays to his picture and turns down marriage from a young Kennedy. Then, when she learns he has remarried, she kills herself. Now I believe you should consider this girl to be a deranged idiot, correct? But because it's an Oriental who kills herself for a Westerner–ah!–you find it beautiful. ~ David Henry Hwang
David Briggs quotes by David Henry Hwang
What are those glorious dots? Those, dear one, are forget-me-nots! ~ David Paul Kirkpatrick
David Briggs quotes by David Paul Kirkpatrick
Yes, well," said his da with a hint of a grow that told him just how worried Bran had been about him, "that'll teach you to dodge a bit quicker next time."
"Sorry," he apologized meekly as he sat in the passenger seat.
"Good," said Bran, shutting the door gently. "Don't let it happen again."
-Bran and Charles ~ Patricia Briggs
David Briggs quotes by Patricia Briggs
At some point last year, her gloom met my doom and she thought it was a good match. i'm not so sure, but at least i get coffee out of it. ~ David Levithan
David Briggs quotes by David Levithan
This is the trap of having something to live for:
Everything else seems lifeless. ~ David Levithan
David Briggs quotes by David Levithan
When a child is watching television, he or she is not involved in play, not socializing with other individuals, and most importantly, not receiving feedback as to the actions or consequences of his or her behavior. ~ David Perlmutter
David Briggs quotes by David Perlmutter
The profession of being a creative thinker is not so obvious. ~ David M. Kelley
David Briggs quotes by David M. Kelley
Very efficient, a new voice said approvingly. He decided to take it as a sign of approval, anyway. The speaker was a European-looking youth with a slightly haughty air. ~ David A. McIntee
David Briggs quotes by David A. McIntee
God not only loves his people but delights in each one of us. He takes great pleasure in us. He's actually blessed in keeping and delivering us. I see this kind of parental pleasure in my wife, Gwen, whenever one of our grandchildren calls. Gwen lights up like a Christmas tree when she has one of our dear little ones on the line. Nothing can get her off the phone. Even if I told her the President was at our door, she'd shoo me away and keep talking. How could I ever accuse my heavenly Father of delighting in me less than I do in my own offspring? ~ David Wilkerson
David Briggs quotes by David Wilkerson
Many a forenoon have I stolen away, preferring to spend thus the most valued part of the day; for I was rich, if not in money, in sunny hours and summer days, and spent them lavishly; nor do I regret that I did not waste more of them in the workshop or the teacher's desk. ~ Henry David Thoreau
David Briggs quotes by Henry David Thoreau
You can't eat tomatoes because they're tainted with deadly salmonella.
First there was tainted lettuce. Now, tainted tomatoes. Who would have thought that the healthiest part of a B.L.T. would be the bacon? ~ David Letterman
David Briggs quotes by David Letterman
When we talk about climate, we need to do everything we can to set the stage before the actors come on. And they may only have one chance at success. We should keep thinking: How do we maximize that chance of success? ~ David Titley
David Briggs quotes by David Titley
Yet for some reason, we as a society have
collectively decided it's better to have millions of human beings spending years of
their lives pretending to type into spreadsheets or preparing mind maps for PR meetings than freeing them to knit sweaters, play with their dogs, start a garage band, experiment with new recipes, or sit in cafés arguing about politics, and gossiping about their friends' complex polyamorous love affairs. ~ David Graeber
David Briggs quotes by David Graeber
Re which, again, please keep in mind that a language is both a map of the world and its own world, with its own shadowlands and crevasses-places where statements that seem to obey all the language's rules are nevertheless impossible to deal with. ~ David Foster Wallace
David Briggs quotes by David Foster Wallace
I suspect that, if you should go to the end of the world, you would find somebody there going farther, as if just starting for home at sundown, and having a last word before he drove off. ~ Henry David Thoreau
David Briggs quotes by Henry David Thoreau
The deepest mystery of Twitter is why celebrities and elected officials take part. After all, we all know they can't write their own lines. ~ David Harsanyi
David Briggs quotes by David Harsanyi
Along with my peers, I gripe about the increasing number of superhero films, and I'm sad that so many critics so uncritically use words like franchise, which should be reserved for your local Burger King. ~ David Edelstein
David Briggs quotes by David Edelstein
President Bush announced he has a five-point strategy for getting out of Iraq. Points six through 10 will be handled by the Kerry administration. ~ David Letterman
David Briggs quotes by David Letterman
Chi-Os were ideal partners for all occasions. They were discrete, desirable, tactful, polite, and fun ... Every mom dreamed of her son coming home with a Chi Omega, a woman's woman. ~ David Letterman
David Briggs quotes by David Letterman
God, however, is first glimpsed within nature's still greater powerlessness - its transitoriness and contingency and explanatory poverty. ~ David Bentley Hart
David Briggs quotes by David Bentley Hart
The universe constantly and obediently answers to our conceptions; whether we travel fast or slow, the track is laid for us. Let us spend our lives in conceiving then. The poet or the artist never yet had so fair and noble a design but some of his posterity at least could accomplish it. ~ Henry David Thoreau
David Briggs quotes by Henry David Thoreau
We have seen mass protests about military invasions and about injustices of many kinds, but we are now entering a new era of understanding and for the first time we are going to see people protesting in large numbers about the conspiracy itself and not just its individual expressions, like globalisation and wars. It is a time when the irresistible force (the human awakening) is going eye-to-eye with what it thinks is the immovable object (the agenda for global control). Immovable it is not, as we shall see in due course, but it is not going to go quietly. We need to be strong and refuse to acquiesce to these control freaks under any circumstances, no matter what the scale of intimidation and provocation. The Illuminati families may have the money, governments, banks, corporations, police and military, but the humanity that they so mercilessly target has the sheer numbers. ~ David Icke
David Briggs quotes by David Icke
One hears a lot of talk about the hostility between scientists and engineers. I don't believe in any such thing. In fact I am quite certain it is untrue ... There cannot possibly be anything in it because neither side has anything to do with the other. ~ David Hilbert
David Briggs quotes by David Hilbert
I'm very comfortable with an R-rating. I feel like it sounds like what people talk like in real life; I think it's more real to me. ~ David Dobkin
David Briggs quotes by David Dobkin
They climbed the wide stairways. Their footsteps echoed and echoed through the house. "What on earth will you be doing with something so large?" said Mum.
"I shall live in it with my servants, of course," said Mina. "Or I shall establish a school."
"A school, my lady?"
"Yes. A school for the writing of nonsense and the pursuit of extraordinary activities. ~ David Almond
David Briggs quotes by David Almond
I wonder what they could possible have to say to each other. they're all so boring and they're all trying to make up for it by talking louder. ~ David Levithan
David Briggs quotes by David Levithan
I am all about switching between genres and doing as much as possible. ~ David Koechner
David Briggs quotes by David Koechner
Fiction is one of the few experiences where loneliness can be both confronted and relieved. Drugs, movies where stuff blows up, loud parties
all these chase away loneliness by making me forget my name's Dave and I live in a one-by-one box of bone no other party can penetrate or know. Fiction, poetry, music, really deep serious sex, and, in various ways, religion
these are the places (for me) where loneliness is countenanced, stared down, transfigured, treated. ~ David Foster Wallace
David Briggs quotes by David Foster Wallace
Sometimes, Henry, remembering hurts too much. ~ Shaun David Hutchinson
David Briggs quotes by Shaun David Hutchinson
Gesture a lot and look wild-eyed and generally pissed-off in some broad geopolitical way. ~ David Foster Wallace
David Briggs quotes by David Foster Wallace
I hope they don't think we're leaving. I want to tell them we're coming back. And that we're not going to hell. I mean, who are they to say? It's one thing to warn someone out of concern. It's another to take it upon yourself to make the damnation. The last time I checked, it was the Lord's call whether or not we go to hell. I hope whenever a person tells another person he or she is going to hell that the Lord notices and decides to hold it against the hell-caller when his or her day of judgement comes. I hope heor she gets up to the gates and the Lord says, 'It was so easy for you to send people to hell in My name that I'm afraid it's going to be easy for Me to do the same. ~ David Levithan
