Westerners who go native with Chinese ideas are called 'eggs' - outside white, inside yellow -, and are often systematically excluded from their expat community's activities, let alone the financial support system. ~ Thorsten J. Pattberg
Cultural Traitors quotes by Thorsten J. Pattberg
The nationalist, however loves his own kind as the extension of his family, realizing that universal values are primitive values or no values at all; that men can be free and content only within their native cultural environment. This profound insight completely escapes the immature internationalists. The nationalist seeks peace - not the peace of the pacifist or the slave but the peace of the free and independent. He believes in nonaggression, nonintervention and neutrality whereas the internationalist sees every dispute anywhere in the world as an excuse for the raising of an army, the floating of a bond issue and the raising of taxes - letting the suckers, of course, do the fighting, the buying of bonds and the paying of taxes. Nationalism is the only sane approach to the problem of world
peace in an increasingly crazy and dangerous world. It is the spirit
of live and let live, the healthy ethic of self-respect, racial integrity
and conscientious concern for the rights of others. ~ Willis Carto
Cultural Traitors quotes by Willis Carto
Fearing death - neurotically manifested as a fear of "failure" or being needy in American culture - we slavishly pursue "success" as it is defined by the surrounding culture. Even more troubling, we become hostile toward out-group members who call our hero system into question.

The great problem in all this - a problem we need to face before concluding - is how God and religion undergird and support the cultural hero system. Cultural hero systems and religion are deeply interconnected - in fact, they are generally synonymous - with our "God" or "gods" providing the warrant for our way of life. Recall that in order for hero systems to confer immunity in the face of death, they must be experienced as immortal and eternal. And there is no better way to create that sense of immortality than to baptize and sacralize the hero system, to fuse our way of life with the way of God.

What this means is that "God" and religious institutions can become as enslaved to the fear of death as everything else in the culture. The church can become as much a principality and power as any other cultural institution. And if this is so, service to "God" and "the church" can produce satanic outcomes as much as, if not more so, any other form of service to the power of death in our world.

In biblical terms, this is idolatry - when "God" and religion become another form of our slavery to the fear of death, another fallen principality and power demanding slavish service a ~ Richard Beck
Cultural Traitors quotes by Richard Beck
Young children begin very early to internalize information that either encourages or discourages self-disclosure. Cues are intuitively understood. Most of what we feel is unexamined and articulated. Cultural norms are unwittingly absorbed. We learn when to speak and when to stay silent. - Pam MacRae (Ch. 2) ~ Rosalie De Rosset
Cultural Traitors quotes by Rosalie De Rosset
Kest, considering we are the very definition of damned if we do and damned if we don't, would you mind telling me why in the name of Saint-Felsan-who-weighs-the-world you're smiling? ~ Sebastian De Castell, Traitor's Blade
Cultural Traitors quotes by Sebastian De Castell, Traitor's Blade
Most people don't question the practice of eating meat. Many of these people care about animals and the environment, some deeply. But for some reason-force of habit, cultural norms, resistance to change-there is a fundamental disconnect whereby these feelings don't translate into changes of behavior. ~ Brian Greene
Cultural Traitors quotes by Brian Greene
... in the latter half of the twentieth century, postmodernism upended everything. Universal truths were no longer accepted. "Truth" (postmodernism loves quotation marks) was instead a social construct that depended heavily on cultural context. Nothing was either true or false, but was instead open to interpretation. ~ Gudjon Bergmann
Cultural Traitors quotes by Gudjon Bergmann
Cultural tourism surveys consistently rate San Francisco's art industry as a core reason for visiting. ~ Gavin Newsom
Cultural Traitors quotes by Gavin Newsom
We have to HIDE from each other because we think that we are the only ones BROKEN. We think we're the only ones whose original selves we ground up and smashed under the jack-booted heel of cultural lies and superstition, patriotism, war lust, war hunger, and a denial of AGGRESSION AGAINST CHILDREN THAT IS THE FOUNDATION OF CULTURE. Culture is everything that is NOT TRUE. If it's true, it's called 'math' or 'science' or 'facts'. Culture is the Stockholm syndrome we have with the historical lies that are convenient to the rules. We love the lies, because we don't think we can be loved if we don't. ~ Stefan Molyneux
Cultural Traitors quotes by Stefan Molyneux
All true cultural creativity happens at the edges of the horizons of the possible, so by definition our most culturally creative endeavors have a high risk of failure. ~ Andy Crouch
Cultural Traitors quotes by Andy Crouch
You lying liar," Vaan said, "who lies to me with lies. Nobody actually likes Shakespeare! They just pretend to sound more cultural and pretentious. ~ A.D. Truax
Cultural Traitors quotes by A.D. Truax
Lying and corruption begins to seep into the emotional zeitgeist of the entire country. If individual and institutional "leaders" are not exposed, confronted, and prosecuted or ousted for their misdeeds, the inevitable result of all this bureaucratic, corporate, and government corruption will be full-scale cultural suicide in the form of mass amorality - behavior without any moral guidelines - which can generate social chaos in a historically moral country, which can next generate restoration of "order" by way of martial law, which can then generate full dictatorship. Cultural Traitors quotes by Alexandra York
A cure for War? Furiously spending the same daily amount of money toward making friends. Being an indispensable source of food, shelter, peace, and cultural support dedicatedly spending 9 billion dollars a month on helping people would be a formidable enemy of evil. ~ Vanna Bonta
Cultural Traitors quotes by Vanna Bonta
I think that our experiences are quite often colored by our cultural and religious beliefs. ~ Rosemary Ellen Guiley
Cultural Traitors quotes by Rosemary Ellen Guiley
In general, you have great artists who have died far too early and who have left great cultural impact. If you look at people like Vincent van Gogh or Jean-Michel Basquiat-there's a long, long list of artists who have died in tragic circumstances, and far, far too early. ~ Simon De Pury
Cultural Traitors quotes by Simon De Pury
Comparison of statements made at different periods frequently enable us to give maximal and minimal dates to the appearance of a cultural element or to assign the time limits to a movement of population. ~ Edward Sapir
Cultural Traitors quotes by Edward Sapir
But what we know, we who are either observers of a business we once were in and loved, or are people within it now, our business as a whole, when it is not obsessed with the business of business, is eaten up with a form of cultural conservatism which is truly amazing. Indeed, more often than not it is eaten up with pure reactionary-ism. ~ Hodding Carter III
Cultural Traitors quotes by Hodding Carter III
In the political, the social, the economic, even the cultural sphere, the revolutions of our time have been revolutions "against" rather than revolutions "for" ... On the whole throughout this period the man
or party
that stood for doing the positive has usually cut a pathetic figure; well meaning but ineffectual, civilized but unrealistic, he was suspect alike to [by both] the ultras of destruction and the ultras of preservation and restoration. ~ Peter Drucker
Cultural Traitors quotes by Peter Drucker
I always wondered what your type was, but I never imagined it would be a hard-core rocker!"
Here we go. I had been hoping he'd be too sleepy for this conversation.
"He's not my type. If I had a type it would be...nice. Not some hotheaded, egocentric male slut."
"Did you just call him a male slut?" Jay laughed. "Dang, that's, like, the worst language I've ever heard you use."
I glowered at him, feeling ashamed, and he laughed even harder.
"Oh, hey, I've got a joke for you. What do you call someone who hangs out with musicians?"
He raised his eyebrows and I shrugged. "I don't know. What?"
"A drummer!" I shook my head while he cracked up at his joke for another minute before hounding me again about Kaidan. "All right, so you talked about my CDs, you had some cultural confusion with some of his lingo, then you talked about hot dogs? That can't be everything. You looked seriously intense."
"That's because he was intense, even though we weren't really talking about anything. He made me nervous."
"You thought he was hot, didn't you?"
I stared out my window at the passing trees and houses. We were almost to school.
"I knew it!" He smacked the steering wheel, loving every second of my discomfort. "This is so weird. Anna Whitt has a crush."
"Fine, yes. He was hot. But it doesn't matter, because there's something about him I don't like. I can't explain it. He's...scary."
"He's not the boy next door, if that's what you mean ~ Wendy Higgins
Cultural Traitors quotes by Wendy Higgins
A vision of cultural homogeneity that seeks to deflect attention away from or even excuse the oppressive, dehumanizing impact of white supremacy on the lives of black people by suggesting black people are racist too indicates that the culture remains ignorant of what racism really is and how it works. It shows that people are in denial. Why is it so difficult for many white folks to understand that racism is oppressive not because white folks have prejudicial feelings about blacks (they could have such feelings and leave us alone) but because it is a system that promotes domination and subjugation? ~ Bell Hooks
Cultural Traitors quotes by Bell Hooks
The language history of the world shows more of the true impacts of past movements and changes of people, beyond the heraldic claims of their largely self-appointed leaders. They reveal a subtle interweave of cultural relations with power politics and economic expediency. ~ Nicholas Ostler
Cultural Traitors quotes by Nicholas Ostler
There is cheese from just about every country in the world except China. No cheese from China? Maybe tofu is Chinese cheese. No wonder there was a cultural revolution. ~ Jim Gaffigan
Cultural Traitors quotes by Jim Gaffigan
Cross-cultural marriage is difficult, especially when one person has to live in another country. But I thought there was a very good chance of it working because people grow together if they have a common passion. ~ Imran Khan
Cultural Traitors quotes by Imran Khan
Everything in New York seems to merit preserving. If it's not historical, it's personal. If it's not personal, it's cultural. But you can't. You can't save everything. You just have to pack it up in your brain and take it with you when you go. ~ Sloane Crosley
Cultural Traitors quotes by Sloane Crosley
Kagan has given us painstakingly documented evidence that high reactivity is one biological basis of introversion but his findings are powerful in part because they confirm what we've sensed all along. Some of Kagan's studies even venture into the realm of cultural myth. For example, he believes, based on his data, that high reactivity is associated with physical traits such as blue eyes, allergies, and hay fever, and that high-reactive men are more likely than others to have a thin body and narrow face. ~ Susan Cain
Cultural Traitors quotes by Susan Cain
I think of magazines as cultural entities rather than boxes of corn flakes that can be sold and shipped around. ~ Wayne Grady
Cultural Traitors quotes by Wayne Grady
My mind flashed back to the Cultural Revolution, when a group of Red Guards pulled our neighbor, Granny Li, out of the opera company's dormitory block and ordered the rest of us to bring out our thermos flasks. We then had to stand and watch as the Red Guards poured ten flasks of boiling water over Granny Li's head. ~ Ma Jian
Cultural Traitors quotes by Ma Jian
Welfare is the basic cause of the deleterious cultural changes we have witnessed in the West over the past 60 years. ~ Martin Durkin
Cultural Traitors quotes by Martin Durkin
I think poetry can be a kind of secular way in which people can be led to approach the difficult parts of their life, where there's been loss, where there's sadness of a deep kind. If poetry can help people to be more at ease in expressing even to themselves a lot of the darkness and pain of ordinary human existence, then it's serving some kind of cultural role, perhaps more than a cultural role, perhaps it is serving something of a spiritual role. ~ Kevin Hart
Cultural Traitors quotes by Kevin Hart
The Christian Church has put a spiritual hierarchy on jobs. Ministers and missionaries are on top, then perhaps doctors and nurses come next, and so on to the bottom, where artists appear. Artists of whatever kind have to compromise everything to entertain. Art is fluffy froth that is no good in the Kingdom of God. What nonsense. ~ Steve Taylor
Cultural Traitors quotes by Steve Taylor
Sam Walton was a master storyteller who used illustrative stories to reinforce his cultural standards. ~ Michael Bergdahl
Cultural Traitors quotes by Michael Bergdahl
Ours is a post-Christian world in which Christianity, not only in the number of Christians but in cultural emphasis and cultural result, is no longer the consensus or ethos of our society. ~ Francis Schaeffer
Cultural Traitors quotes by Francis Schaeffer
One of the ongoing themes in my work, I hope, and one of the things I believe in, is a sense of human nature, a sense of shared humanity above the cultural layers we place on ourselves [which don't] mean that much compared to the human experience. ~ Chris Hondros
Cultural Traitors quotes by Chris Hondros
I try not to let the material aspects of different cultures distract me from getting to the essence of the person I'm photographing. Whether it's a man or a woman. Wherever they're from, I try not to let social status or cultural background affect me or affect the person. I strip all those things away to get down to the essence of the human being, the person. ~ Mario Sorrenti
Cultural Traitors quotes by Mario Sorrenti
Cultural humility acknowledges that doctors bring the baggage of their own cultures - their own ethnic backgrounds along with the culture of medicine - to the patient's bedside, and that these may not necessarily be superior. ~ Anne Fadiman
Cultural Traitors quotes by Anne Fadiman
One of the great disadvantages of a literary or scriptural tradition like the biblical one is that a deity or context of deities becomes crystallized, petrified at a certain time and place. The deity doesn't continue to grow, expand, or take into account new cultural forces and new realizations in the sciences, and the result is this make-believe conflict we have in our culture between science and religion. ~ Joseph Campbell
Cultural Traitors quotes by Joseph Campbell
I like Mitch Daniels on the fiscal conservative issues. You disagree with him on this idea that social issues, you takeoff the table. I do that for two reasons. I think the fiscal issues in a sense are a symptom of a lot of the deeper cultural issues in America. I don't think they are as disconnected as he thinks. ~ Mark Steyn
Cultural Traitors quotes by Mark Steyn
I recognize in thieves, traitors and murderers, in the ruthless and the cunning, a deep beauty - a sunken beauty. ~ Jean Genet
