...the best way to ensure survival is to not needlessly endanger yourself."

"Yeah, well, I don't want to just survive. I want to *live*. ~ T.L. Walker
Upcoming Novels quotes by T.L. Walker
We have so politicized literature today, pigeonholing people into gay male fiction, lesbian fiction, transgender fiction and then other sub-genres within those. There seems to be a feeling like authors should stay in their own box and not write about anybody else, but the thing is, as a writer, you're constantly writing about things that you yourself haven't personally experienced. We should all be free to write about each other as human beings. Some gay men love reading lesbian novels, some straight women love gay male romance, and that richness of reaching across the boundaries helps us further our understanding of each other. ~ Patricia Nell Warren
Upcoming Novels quotes by Patricia Nell Warren
He thought of trying to explain something he had recently noticed about himself: that if anyone insulted him, or one of his friends, he didn't really mind
or not much, anyway. Whereas if anyone insulted a novel, a story, a poem that he loved, something visceral and volcanic occurred within him. He wasn't sure what this might mean
except perhaps that he had got life and art mixed up, back to front, upside down. ~ Julian Barnes
Upcoming Novels quotes by Julian Barnes
Michael Koryta is an amazingly talented writer, and I rank The Prophet as one of the sharpest and superbly plotted crime novels I've read in my life. ~ Donald Ray Pollock
Upcoming Novels quotes by Donald Ray Pollock
I don't want you to change, Bridgette. I'm not in love with who you could be, or who you used to be, or who the world says you should be. I'm in love with you. Right now. Just like this. ~ Colleen Hoover
Upcoming Novels quotes by Colleen Hoover
I want to write. I've already told my mother: That's what I want to do-write. No answer the first time. Then she asks, Write what? I say, Books, novels. [ ... ] She's against it, it's not worthy, it's not real work, it's nonsense. Later she said, A childish idea. ~ Marguerite Duras
Upcoming Novels quotes by Marguerite Duras
I'm a morning person because I learned to write my novels while still practicing law. I would get to the office at 6:30 a.m. and write until other people arrived, around 9. Now I still do that. I start at 6:30 or 7, and I'll write until 11, then take an hour off, then work until about 2 p.m. By then my brain has had enough. ~ Steve Berry
Upcoming Novels quotes by Steve Berry
Don't Shoot is a work of moral philosophy that reads like a crime novel - Immanuel Kant meets Joseph Wambaugh. It's a fascinating, inspiring, and wonderfully well written story of one man's quest to solve a problem no one thought could be solved: the scourge of inner city gang violence This is a vitally important work that has the potential to usher in a new era in policing. ~ John Seabrook
Upcoming Novels quotes by John Seabrook
We all knew that you'd eventually end up with Macallan. I guess I should be offended, but maybe I read too many romance novels to no want to cheer for the two best friends. ~ Elizabeth Eulberg
Upcoming Novels quotes by Elizabeth Eulberg
I had novels to write, so I wrote them. ~ Octavia E. Butler
Upcoming Novels quotes by Octavia E. Butler
All the best novels are about one thing: how we go on. The characters must survive the fallout of their own cowardice, folly, denial or misguided passion. They squander what matters most, and still they pick up the pieces. ~ Julia Glass
Upcoming Novels quotes by Julia Glass
Advice for wives circa 1896: The indiscriminate reading of novels is one of the most injurious habits to which a married woman can be subject. Besides the false views of human nature it will impart ... it produces an indifference to the performance of domestic duties, and contempt for ordinary realities. ~ Jenny Offill
Upcoming Novels quotes by Jenny Offill
You have been abroad then?" said Henry, a little surprised.

"Oh! No, I only mean what I have read about. It always puts me in mind of the country that Emily and her father traveled through, in The Mysteries of Udolpho. But you never read novels, I dare say?"

"Why not?"

"Because they are not clever enough for you - gentlemen read better books."

"The person, be it gentleman or lady, who has not pleasure in a good novel, must be intolerably stupid. I have read all Mrs. Radcliffe's works, and most of them with great pleasure. The Mysteries of Udolpho, when I had once begun it, I could not lay down again; I remember finishing it in two days - my hair standing on end the whole time."

"Yes," added Miss Tilney, "and I remember that you undertook to read it aloud to me, and that when I was called away for only five minutes to answer a note, instead of waiting for me, you took the volume into the Hermitage Walk, and I was obliged to stay till you had finished it. ~ Jane Austen
Upcoming Novels quotes by Jane Austen
There's a sense in all my novels that nothing is certain. ~ William Boyd
Upcoming Novels quotes by William Boyd
Rachel shook her head, as if casting out the memories from her mind. Something he'd been unable to do in one hundred and ninety-eight years. Memories, painful and stark, failed to retreat, instead they clung to him like a Rottweiler to a bone. ~ D.A. Rhine
Upcoming Novels quotes by D.A. Rhine
I would sooner read a time-table or a catalogue than nothing at all. They are much more entertaining than half the novels that are written. ~ W. Somerset Maugham
Upcoming Novels quotes by W. Somerset Maugham

Soaring in the heavens, away from all civilization, would allow her the freedom she needed to escape from the gravity of what people thought. ~ Kaylin McFarren, High Flying
Upcoming Novels quotes by Kaylin McFarren, High Flying
In my later novels, I systematically used the convention, and then a moment came - when did it come? With The Book of Illusions, maybe - I thought, I don't need them anymore, I don't need them, I want to integrate the dialogue into the text. ~ Paul Auster
Upcoming Novels quotes by Paul Auster
Writing historical novels can be dangerous. We need to be as accurate and as fair about the historical record as we can be, at the same time as creating our fictional characters and, hopefully, telling a good story. The challenge is weaving the fiction into the history. ~ Edward Rutherfurd
Upcoming Novels quotes by Edward Rutherfurd
Don't look for permanent love. You will be disappointed. It is found only in novels, fairy-tales, and films. ~ Girdhar Joshi
Upcoming Novels quotes by Girdhar Joshi
They still had sexual relations with another, slept in the same bed, shared kisses and intimacy and matrimonial fluid, however both were not married to each other in that sense, although there was a piece of paper that said otherwise. ~ Keira D. Skye
Upcoming Novels quotes by Keira D. Skye

Upcoming Novels quotes by Katherine Anne Porter
Certainly, light fiction exists and encompasses mysteries or second-class romance novels, books that are read on the beach, whose only aim is to entertain. These books are not concerned with style or creativity - instead they are successful because they are repetitive and follow a template that readers enjoy. ~ Umberto Eco
Upcoming Novels quotes by Umberto Eco
Ummm, anyone else getting the creeps? Breccan asked. Okay, let's vote. Who here is in favor of daylight? Come on, show of hands. Don't be shy. ~ Madison Thorne Grey
Upcoming Novels quotes by Madison Thorne Grey
Kundera was also a postmodernist writer, but he completely lacked this embracing of other worlds, with him the world was always the same, it was Prague and Czechoslovakia and the Soviets who had either invaded or were on the point of doing so, and that was fine, but he kept withdrawing his characters from the plot, intervening and going on about something or other while the characters stood still, waiting as it were, by the window or wherever it was they happened to be until he had finished his explanation and they could move forward. Then you saw that the plot was only 'a plot' and that the characters were only 'characters', something he had invented, you knew they didn't exist, and so why should you read about them? Kundera's polar opposite was Hamsun, no one went as far into his characters' world as he did, and that was what I preferred, at least in a comparison of these two, the physicality and the realism of Hunger, for example. There the world had weight, there even the thoughts were captured, while with Kundera the thoughts elevated themselves above the world and did as they liked with it. Another difference I had noticed was that European novels often had only one plot, everything followed one track as it were, while South American novels had a multiplicity of tracks and sidetracks, indeed, compared with European novels, they almost exploded with plots. One of my favourites was A Hundred Years of Solitude by García Márquez, but I also loved Love in the Time of Cholera ~ Karl Ove Knausgaard
Upcoming Novels quotes by Karl Ove Knausgaard
The 'Barnaby' books were always intended to be graphic novels. ~ Janet Evanovich
Upcoming Novels quotes by Janet Evanovich
There are the people who read my horror novels - the first two of them - and they found them scary or whatever, and then there are some people who are maybe not entirely stable who think that they're real, who think that they're being stalked by the same demons or ghosts that are mentioned in the books. ~ David Wong
Upcoming Novels quotes by David Wong
Hot damn. Cue the violins and happy cartoon bunnies. I was in the middle of a Disney moment. Because this guy was gorgeous. And we were standing so close to each other. If he hadn't been holding onto a barely contained rage directed at yours truly, it could have almost been construed as romantic. ~ A Meredith Walters
Upcoming Novels quotes by A Meredith Walters
A quiet morning with a loving God puts the events of the upcoming day into proper perspective. ~ Janette Oke
Upcoming Novels quotes by Janette Oke
I could never be a part of an adaptation of a film where there's pressure to not disappoint the immense fan base. In those cases, they often wind up with filmed books on tape, quite uncinematic. Having said that, I'd say all the adaptations I've done are quite faithful to the original. You have to pick and choose which storylines and plot threads, because you don't have the time to kill in the film as they have in novels. All those pages with detours and plots and different storylines. But films add a lot, and you gotta keep it moving. ~ Alexander Payne
