What the hell was that?" one of them asked.

"Jackal," Irene stated quietly while watching city streets turn to suburb.
They weren't taking her to a main airport but a small airstrip. One built
exclusively for private planes.

"Did she just call us jackals?" one of them joked.

Irene grinned which wiped the smile off the man's face. "No. I said the howl
you heard was jackal." She looked at Jenny. "They'll be coming for you."

Jenny glanced at the men and back at her. She looked terribly concerned she
had a lunatic in the car with her. "The jackals will be coming for me?"

"No. The wolves."

Jenny sighed. "Why oh why do I always get the nutcases?"

"Oh!" Irene pointed excitedly. "See that spot up there?"

"What about it?"

"That's where it all started. Where I crossed the Rubicon."

Exasperated, Jenny snarled, "What the fuck are you talking about?"

"It's feeding time," Irene whispered.

Can you feel that in the air? That urgency? For there is an urgency
There is no time to waste!
Let the trumpet sound throughout the land!
A clarion call for a new way of being.
Head toward the light, and only the light. Destroy your options. Cross your personal Rubicon.
Burn your ships.
Ride your horse as it can go, then dismount and carry on.
Forward!
Never settle!
Dregs settle.
Lead! Lead!
And never follow again! ~ Zan Perrion
Rubicon quotes by Zan Perrion

Rubicon quotes by Bryant McGill
Who--Whoo--Whoop! Who'll come gouge with me? Who'll come bite with me? Rowff--Yough--Snort--YAHOO! In the name of the great Jehova and the Continental Congress, I have passed the Rubicon--swim or sink, live or die, survive or perish, I'm in fer a fight, I'll go my death on a fight, and with a firm reliance on the pertection of divine protestants, a fight I must have, or else I'll have to be salted down to save me from spilin'! You hear me over thar, you washed-up varmints? This is the hope of the world talkin' to you! I am Sam Slick the Yankee Peddler…. ~ Robert Coover
Rubicon quotes by Robert Coover
One of the things I love about 'Rubicon' is I really recognize the New York City that they're depicting in it, having lived here for 15 years. ~ Annie Parisse
Rubicon quotes by Annie Parisse

Rubicon quotes by Jane Porter
I tapped a forefinger to my temple and raised my glass of single-vineyard Foxen Pinot. "Between here and here lies the Rubicon of the imagination. ~ Rex Pickett
Rubicon quotes by Rex Pickett
Carefully measure the depth of water when crossing your Rubicon in life. The river was shallow when Julius Caesar crossed 2000 years ago. ~ Shahid Hussain Raja

Now the Rubicon peacefully flows into the Styx. ~ Mikhail Turovsky
Rubicon quotes by Mikhail Turovsky
I built Rubicon from ashes,' said the other man. 'Ashes of war. I have worked hard to raise myself up from the poverty I was born into. Believe me when I tell you I have seen every kind of injustice, all across the heartland of my mother Africa. And now I have made billions of dollars from land and mining and technology. Now I can do something about it. As Lucy says, I am a very rich man.' He reached up to his neck and pulled out the silver chain between his fingers. 'I see you looking at this. Do you recognize it?'
Marc gave a slow nod. Now it was clear to him, he could see that the odd bit of discoloured metal was actually part of a weapon. It was the trigger from an AK-47 assault rifle. ~ James Swallow
Rubicon quotes by James Swallow
One senses that all the Bolsheviks, even those who ended up as cold-blooded autocrats, had been on a journey from idealism to something else, and didn't notice - to mix periods - when the Rubicon was crossed. ~ Tom Stoppard
Rubicon quotes by Tom Stoppard
I kept secrets from you. I let you believe a lie. I am an impious son. But I made my choice, as C(aesar) did, and once the Rubicon is crossed, there can be no turning back (Meto, Caesar's scribe, to his father Gordianus the Finder) ~ Steven Saylor
Rubicon quotes by Steven Saylor
Meerlust Rubicon from South Africa, a suitably wintry red. ~ John Connolly
Rubicon quotes by John Connolly
If just once you were depressed for no reason, you have been so all your life without knowing it.
Becoming: an agony without an ending. The older I grow, the less I enjoy performing my little Hamlet. The desire to die was my one and only concern; to it I have sacrificed everything, even death. If History had a goal, how lamentable would be the fate of those of us who have accomplished nothing!
On the frontiers of the self: 'What I have suffered, what I am suffering, no one will ever know, not even I'. Events - tumours of time.
Man secretes disaster.
The secret of my adaptation to life? - I've changed despairs the way I've changed shirts. Each day is a Rubicon in which I aspire to be drowned. ~ Emil M. Cioran
Rubicon quotes by Emil M. Cioran
Mr. Adams, describing a conversation with Jonathan Sewall in 1774, says: "I answered that the die was now cast; I had passed the Rubicon. Swim or sink, live or die, survive or perish with my country was my unalterable determination." ~ John Adams
Rubicon quotes by John Adams
[M]ore Americans work for federal, state or local government than work in any form of manufacturing. We crossed that Rubicon about 10 years ago. ~ Ann Coulter
Rubicon quotes by Ann Coulter
Language is the Rubicon that divides man from beast. ~ Max Muller
Rubicon quotes by Max Muller
Sometimes you don't know if you're Caesar about to cross the Rubicon or Captain Queeg cutting your own tow line. ~ Anthony Kennedy
Rubicon quotes by Anthony Kennedy
This is crossing the Rubicon, after which there will be no more sovereign states in Europe with fully-fledged governments and parliaments which represent legitimate interests of their citizens, but only one State will remain. Basic things will be decided by a remote 'federal government' in Brussels and, for example, Czech citizens will be only a tiny particle whose voice and influence will be almost zero ... We are against a European superstate. ~ Vaclav Klaus
Rubicon quotes by Vaclav Klaus
Red Lake must be his Rubicon. Either he must enter the unknown to seek, to strive, to find, or turn back and fail and never know and be always haunted. ~ Zane Grey
Rubicon quotes by Zane Grey
Caesar was Rome's escape from communism. I expect no Caesar; I find on our map no Rubicon. But then I expect to see communistic madness rebuked and ended. ~ Roswell Dwight Hitchcock
Rubicon quotes by Roswell Dwight Hitchcock
Wasn't 'Ms.' an honorific for females back in pre-rubicon days?" asked Frome. "Some sort of honorary degree for not getting married or something? ~ Dan Simmons
Rubicon quotes by Dan Simmons
It is just this rage for consideration that has betrayed the dog into his satellite position as the friend of man. The cat, an animal of franker appetites, preserves his independence. But the dog, with one eye ever on the audience, has been wheedled into slavery, and praised and patted into the renunciation of his nature. Once he ceased hunting and became man's plate-licker, the Rubicon was crossed. Thenceforth he was a gentleman of leisure; and except the few whom we keep working, the whole race grew more and more self-conscious, mannered and affected. ~ Robert Louis Stevenson
Rubicon quotes by Robert Louis Stevenson
One glance. Once stare.
Was all it took to take my lungs to long for air.
The moment I saw you, is the moment I found myself.
It was unreal; this love thrill,
My soul it manifest. I was obsessed.
Maybe that's where I went wrong, love possessed.
Forced to cross the Rubicon, no protest.
From your end 'cause we shared the same sentiment
Love we earned, time we burned, look at what we've done.
Now we at the point of no return, no taking it back.
Our world like centre CERN, particles go round and back.
All we do is speak out of turn,
Argue, push buttons;
I guess that's the straw hun,
That broke the camel's back. ~ Soroosh Shahrivar
Rubicon quotes by Soroosh Shahrivar
You can cross the Rubicon in a boat without getting wet, but surely, getting wet is the baptism before you begin that new life on the other side. ~ Chloe Thurlow
Rubicon quotes by Chloe Thurlow
The biggest regret I have about 'Rubicon' is that we didn't end it. Sometimes you do these shows and you don't have the opportunity to get closure. Stories are supposed to have a beginning, middle and an end. ~ James Badge Dale
