I assure you I will not miss the chance to show you that you were right when you voted for me. ~ Traian Basescu
Rached Show quotes by Traian Basescu
I don't have time for their judgement and their stupidity and you know they lay down with their ugly wives in front of their ugly children and look at their loser lives and then they look at me and they say, 'I can't process it' well, no, you never will stop trying, just sit back and enjoy the show. You know? ~ Charlie Sheen
Rached Show quotes by Charlie Sheen
I wanted to show those characters discovering it is possible to find common ground, as they make their way through a plotline that I hope is engrossing enough to keep the reader a willing participant. ~ Joan D. Vinge
Rached Show quotes by Joan D. Vinge
Well, this was disappointing. I supposed I had jumped to a rather large conclusion, with the help of my research. It just went to show that Wikipedia was a liar and Google a whore. ~ Maggie Stiefvater
Rached Show quotes by Maggie Stiefvater
The best way of realising our high ideals is to show that we have an alternative in government that is credible, that is radical, and is electable - is neither a pale imitation of what the Tories offer nor is it the route to being a party of permanent protest rather than a party of government. ~ Gordon Brown
Rached Show quotes by Gordon Brown
You don't stick a knife in a man's back nine inches and then pull it out six inches and say you're making progress ... No matter how much respect, no matter how much recognition, whites show towards me, as far as I am concerned, as long as it is not shown to everyone of our people in this country, it doesn't exist for me. ~ Malcolm X
Rached Show quotes by Malcolm X
The degree to which a surviving parent copes is the most important indicator of the child's long-term adaptation. Kids whose surviving parents are unable to function effectively in the parenting role show more anxiety and depression, as well as sleep and health problems, than those whose parents have a strong support network and solid inner resources to rely on. ~ Hope Edelman
Rached Show quotes by Hope Edelman
It was easy to persecute me without people feeling ashamed. It was easy to vilify me and project me as a woman who was not following the tradition of a 'good African woman' and as a highly educated elitist who was trying to show innocent African women ways of doing things that were not acceptable to African men. ~ Wangari Maathai
Rached Show quotes by Wangari Maathai
He was what men called a religious man, which in his case meant he was a superstitious man. There was never a man less Christian; there was never one who made a greater show of piety. ~ Jean Plaidy
Rached Show quotes by Jean Plaidy
They never show mercy because mercy was never shown to them ~ Charles Dickens
Rached Show quotes by Charles Dickens
No, there isn't a particular type of genre that I'm drawn to. I'm more drawn to the possibility of creating different characters, or being able to go from one genre to the other and to show that I could do it, that I could be good at it. ~ Freddy Rodriguez
Rached Show quotes by Freddy Rodriguez
Long live teachers of children, because they can show children how they can save the world. ~ Pete Seeger
Rached Show quotes by Pete Seeger
I think that that's important as a fledgling creator to generate your own work because it's hard to get people to hire you for a myriad of reasons. You have to be able to generate your own work and show that it has legs and that it's viable. ~ Kevin Grevioux
Rached Show quotes by Kevin Grevioux
Autumn! The greatest show of all times! ~ Mehmet Murat Ildan
Rached Show quotes by Mehmet Murat Ildan
I have always been guided by striving to show the best that I could. That is what kept me going in tennis and it is the same now. ~ Steffi Graf
Rached Show quotes by Steffi Graf
Maybe nostalgia is itself the problem. A Democrat I met in Macon during a conversation we had about the local enthusiasm for Trump told me that "people want to go back to Mayberry", the setting of the beloved old Andy Griffith Show. (As it happens, the actual model for Mayberry, Mount Airy, a bedraggled town in North Carolina, has gone all in on the Trump revolution, as the Washington Post recently reported.)

Maybe it's also true, as my liberal friends believe, that what people in this part of the country secretly long to go back to are the days when the Klan was riding high or when Quantrill was terrorizing the people of neighboring Kansas, or when Dred Scott was losing his famous court case. For sure, there is a streak of that ugly sentiment in the Trump phenomenon.

But I want to suggest something different: that the nostalgic urge does not necessarily have to be a reactionary one. There is nothing un-progressive about wanting your town to thrive, about recognizing that it isn't thriving today, about figuring out that the mid-century, liberal way worked better.

For me, at least, that is how nostalgia unfolds. When I drive around this part of the country, I always do so with a WPA guidebook in hand, the better to help me locate the architectural achievements of the Roosevelt years. I used to patronize a list of restaurants supposedly favored by Harry Truman (they are slowly disappearing).

And these days, as I pass Trump sign after ~ Thomas Frank
Rached Show quotes by Thomas Frank
Show me what you did to yourself while I was away, and I'll give you a reward. ~ Sherilee Gray
Rached Show quotes by Sherilee Gray
Are great things ever done smoothly? Time, patience, and indomitable will must show. ~ Swami Vivekananda
Rached Show quotes by Swami Vivekananda
I wanna to ask that fat and glassy guy... Famous as GreenHollyWood, first of all (HELLO (I wanna and gonna be polite!)...
AS second, what are you trying to show us?
To be stupid and so far the doors are open for stupidity or to show us what's not right... so far you aren't preparing us for the world. The world is beyond your imagination and your thoughts, sounds, sad (but that's a fact), facts are sad!? ~ Deyth Banger
Rached Show quotes by Deyth Banger
I will tell you this: I have fun, a lot of fun with 'The Apprentice.' When I did the books - and now we have a book out. And all the time, books are prestigious. But there's sort of nothing like having the big hot show on television. ~ Donald Trump
Rached Show quotes by Donald Trump
If you look at some shows that have an ugly feel to them, or a nihilistic sort of feel to them, you'll usually find a group of cynical, unhappy, miserable people behind the production. If you see a show that's rather boring, or a cookie-cutter factory show, you'll usually find some pretty uninteresting, boring people behind it. ~ Michelle Forbes
Rached Show quotes by Michelle Forbes
At Universal Studios, Marston had a hand in films like Show Boat, in 1929. He also helped get films past the censors, including All Quiet on the Western Front, in 1930. When Carl Laemmle's son, Junior Laemmle, took over Universal, he turned it into a specialty shop for horror films: Marston's theory of emotions lies behind the particular brand of psychological terror in Laemmle's Frankenstein (1931), Dracula (1931), and The Invisible Man (1933). Before Marston left Hollywood, he also worked for Paramount. For Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde (1931), he tested audience reaction by strapping viewers to blood pressure cuffs while they watched the rushes.30 ~ Jill Lepore
Rached Show quotes by Jill Lepore
When I signed a record deal, I was always told by execs I needed to be like everybody else, that I had to show my midriff, things that would take away from who I want to be as an artist. ~ Jessica Simpson
Rached Show quotes by Jessica Simpson
If you go against growth, you go against yourself. How ready are we to face, accept and deal with the situations that comes to us unexpectedly in our partners. It takes a big heart to face situations but above all it takes simplicity, humility and self denial to show true love and care. ~ William Pious Akakpo
Rached Show quotes by William Pious Akakpo
A story isn't a charcoal sketch, where every stroke lies on the surface to be seen. It's an oil painting, filled with layers that the author must uncover so carefully to show its beauty. ~ Amelia Atwater-Rhodes
Rached Show quotes by Amelia Atwater-Rhodes
I use poetry to help me work through what I don't understand, but I show up to each new poem with a backpack full of everywhere else that I've been. ~ Sarah Kay
Rached Show quotes by Sarah Kay
In 1986, human nature in America started to change. That year, 'The Oprah Winfrey Show,' based in Chicago, became nationally syndicated, and the country entered the beginning stages of a quiet cultural revolution. ~ Lee Siegel
Rached Show quotes by Lee Siegel
Lord, I do not ask that Thou shouldst give me wealth; only show me where it is, and I will attend to the rest. ~ Kate Douglas Wiggin
Rached Show quotes by Kate Douglas Wiggin
Fake is not a word I like to use because there's nothing fake about what I do. It's a show, it's a predetermined outcome; we're putting on a television drama, action, comedy, whatever you want to call it - but it's not fake. Fake would be if I was just about to take a body slam, and my stuntman did it. Fake would be if I was going to take a chair shot to the head, and the chair was made of rubber. I'll tell the world that it's a show, but I hate the word fake. It's such an unfair term to us. ~ Chris Jericho
Rached Show quotes by Chris Jericho
Show people tend to treat their finances like their dentistry. They assume the man handling it knows what he is doing. ~ Dick Cavett
Rached Show quotes by Dick Cavett
Able writers let us into their minds and show us how they think and by that open our minds to ourselves ~ Bangambiki Habyarimana
Rached Show quotes by Bangambiki Habyarimana
[W]e talk about the tyranny of words, but we like to tyrannise over them too; we are fond of having a large superfluous establishment of words to wait upon us on great occasions; we think it looks important, and sounds well. As we are not particular about the meaning of our liveries on state occassions, if they be but fine and numerous enough, so, the meaning or necessity of our words is a secondary consideration, if there be but a great parade of them. And as individuals get into trouble by making too great a show of liveries, or as slaves when they are too numerous rise against their masters, so I think I could mention a nation that has got into many great difficulties, and will get into many greater, from maintaining too large a retinue of words. ~ Charles Dickens
