But what man does out of despair, is not necessarily a key to his character. I have always thought that the real key is in that which he seeks for his enjoyment. ~ Ayn Rand

My work is very much like the restaurant critic's - a number of factors come together to make for a strong review. ~ Hank Stuever
Hank Reardon quotes by Hank Stuever
Freed slaves returned to Africa settled in a section of what was known as the "Pepper Coast" and on July 26, 1847, issued a Declaration of Independence and established a constitution based on the political principles denoted in the United States Constitution. In doing so they established the independent Republic of Liberia. Law and Order was something the ruling class of Liberians prided themselves on. The Americo Liberians, as they called themselves, were uber-Conservatives and had a glorified picture of what the American government was like. As Conservatives they saw themselves living a privileged lifestyle, sustained by their faith in God and the blessings that had been bestowed upon them by this deity. Amongst themselves there was much talk about the subjects of freedom, liberty, democracy and independence. They felt that these idealisms were deserved because of their exceptionalism. Taking a page from the concept of American exceptionalism, they fantasied of their very own Liberian exceptionalism, completely forgetting the indigenous natives living among them. Whereas the Americo Liberians lived an affluent lifestyle reflecting the antebellum era in the Southern tier of the United States, the local blacks, for the greatest part lived in squalor. In 1980, a violent military coup shattered the way of life in Liberia. Led by army Master Sergeant Samuel Doe, the country's ruling group of Americo-Liberians were brutally overthrown and frequently executed. Doe's term as Presid ~ Hank Bracker

Obviously, this is a profoundly unrelatable frustration, but we all only have our own lives to live inside of. ~ Hank Green
Hank Reardon quotes by Hank Green
When you start out in this business, the Hall of Fame is not what you're thinking about. You think all you want to do is make it to the major leagues. That's your goal, and that's your ambition as a broadcaster, just as it is with playing. ~ Hank Greenwald
Hank Reardon quotes by Hank Greenwald
There ain't nobody I'd rather have alongside me in a bar brawl than my mama with a broken beer bottle in her hand. ~ Hank Williams
Hank Reardon quotes by Hank Williams
A morning of awkwardness is far better then a night of loneliness ~ Hank Moody
Hank Reardon quotes by Hank Moody
He's a murdering chud," Zil was yelling.
"What do you want to do? Lynch him?" Astrid demanded.
That stopped the flow for a second as kids tried to figure out what "lynch" meant. But Zil quickly recovered.
"I saw him do it. He used his powers to kill Harry."
"I was trying to stop you from smashing my head in!" Hunter shouted.
"You're a lying mutant freak!"
"They think they can do anything they want," another voice shouted.
Astrid said, as calmly as she could while still pitching her voice to be heard, "We are not going down that path, people, dividing up between freaks and normals."
"They already did it!" Zil cried. "It's the freaks acting all special and like their farts don't stink."
That earned a laugh.
"And now they're starting to kill us," Zil cried.
Angry cheers.
Edilio squared his shoulders and stepped into the crowd. He went first to Hank, the kid with the shotgun. He tapped him on the shoulder and said, "Give me that thing."
"No way," Hank said. But he didn't seem too certain.
"You want to have that thing fire by accident and blow someone's face off?" Edilio held his hand out. "Give it to me, man."
Zil rounded on Edilio. "You going to make Hunter give up his weapon? Huh? He's got powers, man, and that's okay, but the normals can't have any weapon? How are we supposed to defend ourselves from the freaks?"
"Man, give it a rest, huh?" Edilio said. He was doing his best to sound more weary tha ~ Michael Grant
Hank Reardon quotes by Michael Grant
There will be a guy in a yellow poncho, his name is Hank, he will take you to the whopper lair. ~ Dane Cook
Hank Reardon quotes by Dane Cook
American Casualties on the USS Maine

Two hundred & Sixty Six American sailors were killed when the American battleship, USS Maine, exploded and sank in Havana harbor after a massive explosion of undetermined origin. The first Board of Inquiry regarding the incident stated that a mine placed on or near the hull had sunk the ship. Later studies determined that it was more likely heat from smoldering coal in the ship's bunker that set off the explosion in an adjoining ammunition locker.

In February 1898, the recovered bodies of the American sailors who died on the battleship were interred in the Colon Cemetery, in Havana. Nearly two years later they were exhumed and now 163 of the crew that were killed in 1898 are buried at Arlington National Cemetery, near the USS Maine Memorial.

The beautiful monument shown is located in Central Park West in New York City. ~ Hank Bracker
Hank Reardon quotes by Hank Bracker

The Mark Birley fan club, of which epic American socialite Nan Kempner says she's the oldest living member, follows him doggedly. ~ Kate Reardon
Hank Reardon quotes by Kate Reardon
The idea that corporations have the same First Amendment protections of free speech as people is troubling. Corporations are not people. They don't attend our schools, get married and have children. They don't vote in our elections. ~ Hank Johnson
Hank Reardon quotes by Hank Johnson
I realized a lot of my friends were going to nightclubs and listening to house music. I was hanging out with them and going to clubs as well but I didn't really understand that kind of music. I was listening to country music and was heavily into Hank Williams, bluegrass, and Bob Dylan. So I just decided I really needed to understand what this music I was hearing in the clubs was all about. ~ Hans-Peter Lindstrom
Hank Reardon quotes by Hans-Peter Lindstrom
I know I was a great friend to Tiger Woods. But when you have a relationship that's involves business and friendship - and the business part comes to an end - things always get a little blurry. ~ Hank Haney
Hank Reardon quotes by Hank Haney
You don't have to call me 'Mister', Mister;
The whole world called me 'Hank'! ~ David Allan Coe
Hank Reardon quotes by David Allan Coe
That's what I'm afraid of, that we will become like that. I'm worried that we will outsource our satisfaction, and that our lives will get sucked into the nothingness of video games and television and shockingly realistic pornography. We will just get satisfied, and never drive ourselves forward. Society is fraying - the impact of the Carls, whatever you think about them, is clear. We've lost our way, we don't have a vision for the future anymore. ~ Hank Green
Hank Reardon quotes by Hank Green
Don't worry about looking cool. Do you because you are awesome. ~ Hank Green
Hank Reardon quotes by Hank Green
Speaking to humans was so vastly different from tweeting...But this way we all had to sit in the same set of thoughts for over an hour. The connection felt very good. ~ Hank Green
Hank Reardon quotes by Hank Green
You can give a person a hundred reasons not to love someone, but when it's too late, it's too late. ~ Lisa Reardon
Hank Reardon quotes by Lisa Reardon
Hitler was invading every European country surrounding Germany, and it was obvious that eventually we would also be at war. At the time, some Americans joined the German American Bund that backed what Hitler was doing. Others advocated that we stay out of the war.... Charles Lindbergh was of that persuasion and supported the isolationist "America First Movement," advocating that the United States remain neutral. You could not blame people for their hostile feelings towards the German-Americans, when Nazi Bund meetings were being held at many locations around New York City, as well as in the neighboring Schuetzenpark, the German word for the riflemen's or shooters' park, in North Bergen.
In April of 1941, after President Roosevelt accused Lindbergh of being a fascist sympathizer, Lindbergh resigned his commission as a colonel in the United States Army Air Forces. Later in the war, Lindbergh flew 50 combat missions in the Pacific Theater as a civilian consultant, but Roosevelt refused to reinstate his commission. The majority of Americans just wanted to stay out of what they considered a European matter. ~ Captain Hank Bracker, "Seawater One"
Hank Reardon quotes by Captain Hank Bracker,
I've been ripped for being too sensitive, but I do think people need to walk in another person's shoes before they accuse them of being too sensitive. ~ Hank Haney
Hank Reardon quotes by Hank Haney

Hank Reardon quotes by Hank Moody
Behold the field in which I grow my fucks. Lay thine eyes upon it and see that it is barren. ~ Hank Green
Hank Reardon quotes by Hank Green
You will always struggle with not feeling productive until you accept that your own joy can be something you produce. It is not the only thing you will make, nor should it be, but it is something valuable and beautiful. ~ Hank Green
Hank Reardon quotes by Hank Green
I tend to not watch things that are current. And then if everybody swears it's amazing then I'll like watch the whole series in a weekend. ~ Hank Azaria
Hank Reardon quotes by Hank Azaria
A good day is when your wants and your needs are the same... ~ Hank Curci
Hank Reardon quotes by Hank Curci
Fuck the younger generation. I just like you. ~ Hank Moody
Hank Reardon quotes by Hank Moody
I get the concept, all right
like, why would God make me gay and then tell me it's a sin to be gay? But the freethinkers were confusing me. ' I don't get it. They have no religion, but they sort of believe in God, but they don't believe in faith? ~ Robin Reardon
Hank Reardon quotes by Robin Reardon
I want us to cool down for a while before we end up on horses' said Scully.
'What?' Hank asked.
'A definition of confusion.' Mulder explained, hands clasped behind his head. 'He jumped up on his horse and rode off in all directions.' He winked. 'Scully likes wise sayings like that. She hoardes fortune cookies you know. ~ Charles Grant
Hank Reardon quotes by Charles Grant
Happiness does not mean being free from problems and trials, but finding purpose in problems and trials can result in abundant happiness. ~ Hank Smith
Hank Reardon quotes by Hank Smith
What I found was an ability to enjoy writing again, because I stopped making it about wanting to be the best, or wanting to be better than some past version of myself, or better than other people I admire a lot who write YA fiction.

Instead of seeing it as a pyramid, or something that you're trying to get to the top of; I started seeing it as a huge ball that I'm trying to, like, contribute one layer of paint to. Lots of other people are contributing layers of paint, and through that the ball gets more beautiful and more interesting, and also bigger.

And instead of me needing to be at the top of my game somehow, what I can really do I think in the end, is contribute in a small way to a very big conversation that's very old. And that's what art is for me. ~ John Green
