Ersken gathered the dice, put them in the cup they had used for play, and tucked it inside one bound Rat's shirt.
"Let that be a lesson to you not to gamble," he told the Rat soberly. "The trickster asks you pay for any luck you may have, one way or another."
"Bless the boy, he's a priest with it," one of the Goddess warriors said with a grin. "After this, laddie, what's say I take you home and rub some of that off yez?"
Ersken actually winked at her! "Forgive me, gracious warrior, but my woman would turn me into something unnatural if I took you up on your kind offer," he replied as if he truly regretted it. "She's a mage and I'd best stay devoted. ~ Tamora Pierce
Graceful Letdown quotes by Tamora Pierce
The sweat of hard work is not to be displayed. It is much more graceful to appear favored by the gods. ~ Maxine Hong Kingston
Graceful Letdown quotes by Maxine Hong Kingston
Patience and propriety. It was the only graceful thing to do. ~ Patrick Rothfuss
Graceful Letdown quotes by Patrick Rothfuss
This business about graceful exit just simply has no realism to it at all. ~ George W. Bush
Graceful Letdown quotes by George W. Bush
Elves are like trees, grounded and focused from the trunk down but graceful and agile on top. ~ Orlando Bloom
Graceful Letdown quotes by Orlando Bloom
She has this curious heavy grace, like something out of its element making do in a heavier medium. Like she should be living in water. ~ Keri Hulme
Graceful Letdown quotes by Keri Hulme
Dorian Gray frowned and turned his head away. He could not help liking the tall, graceful young man who was standing by him. His romantic, olive-coloured face and worn expression interested him. There was something in his low languid voice that was absolutely fascinating. His cool, white, flowerlike hands, even, had a curious charm. They moved, as he spoke, like music, and seemed to have a language of their own. But he felt afraid of him, and ashamed of being afraid. ~ Oscar Wilde
Graceful Letdown quotes by Oscar Wilde
For ages happiness has been represented as a huge precious stone, impossible to find, which people seek for hopelessly. It is not so; happiness is a mosaic, composed of a thousand little stones, which separately and of themselves have little value, but which united with art form a graceful design. ~ Delphine De Girardin
Graceful Letdown quotes by Delphine De Girardin
She danced the dance so well, so well indeed, so perfectly, that Anisya Fyodorovna, who handed her at once the kerchief she needed in the dance, had tears in her eyes, though she laughed as she watched that slender and graceful little countess, reared in silk and velvet, belonging to another world than hers, who was yet able to understand all that was in Anisya and her father and her mother and her aunt and every Russian soul. ~ Leo Tolstoy
Graceful Letdown quotes by Leo Tolstoy
Jezzet there isn't a man in this room who hasn't spent at least some time staring at you and you're without doubt the most graceful person I've ever seen. I'm sure you can find some way to distract them. Failing that just start ... you know ... killing people."
"Killing people?" [...]
"Yes. with a spoon if you like. ~ Rob J. Hayes
Graceful Letdown quotes by Rob J. Hayes
She was a woman who, between courses, could be graceful with her elbows on the table. ~ Henry James
Graceful Letdown quotes by Henry James
Mondays are for baklava, which she learned to make by watching her parents. Her mother said that a baklava-maker should have sensitive, supple hands, so she was in charge of opening and unpeeling the paper-thin layers of dough and placing them in a stack in the tray. Her father was in charge of pastry-brushing each layer of dough with a coat of drawn butter. It was systematic yet graceful: her mother carefully unpeeling each layer and placing them in the tray where Sirine's father painted them. It was important to move quickly so that the unbuttered layers didn't dry out and start to fall apart. This was one of the ways that Sirine learned how her parents loved each other- their concerted movements like a dance; they swam together through the round arcs of her mother's arms and her father's tender strokes. Sirine was proud when they let her paint a layer, prouder when she was able to pick up one of the translucent sheets and transport it to the tray- light as raw silk, fragile as a veil.
On Tuesday morning, however, Sirine has overslept. She's late to work and won't have enough time to finish preparing the baklava before starting breakfast. She could skip a day of the desserts and serve the customers ice cream and figs or coconut cookies and butter cake from the Iranian Shusha Bakery two doors down. But the baklava is important- it cheers the students up. They close their eyes when they bite into its crackling layers, all lightness and scent of orange blossoms.
And ~ Diana Abu-Jaber
Graceful Letdown quotes by Diana Abu-Jaber
I'm not the most delicate - I'm not the most graceful person, and I like playing a sport where being not delicate and not graceful is actually a good thing. ~ Mary McCormack
Graceful Letdown quotes by Mary McCormack
There can be no nobler training than that, he replied. And therefore, I said, Glaucon, musical training is a more potent instrument than any other, because rhythm and harmony find their way into the inward places of the soul, on which they mightily fasten, imparting grace, and making the soul of him who is rightly educated graceful, or of him who is ill-educated ungraceful; and also because he who has received this true education of the inner being will most shrewdly perceive omissions or faults in art and nature, and with a true taste, while he praises and rejoices over and receives into his soul the good, and becomes noble and good, he will justly blame and hate the bad, now in the days of his youth, even before he is able to know the reason why; and when reason comes he will recognise and salute the friend with whom his education has made him long familiar. Yes, ~ Plato
Graceful Letdown quotes by Plato
You dream about the Olympics for so long and you have that one day, then it's over, and when you don't run well there is this huge letdown. It took me years to deal with that. I feel like I almost had to cleanse myself of that experience. ~ Ryan Hall
Graceful Letdown quotes by Ryan Hall
Gratitude is the spirit of graceful sacred-existence. ~ Lailah Gifty Akita
Graceful Letdown quotes by Lailah Gifty Akita

... Thus much of music, which makes a fair ending; for what should be the end of music if not the love of beauty? ~ Plato
Graceful Letdown quotes by Plato
I thank God for supply me with my deepest needs; a life of love with graceful strength. ~ Lailah Gifty Akita
Graceful Letdown quotes by Lailah Gifty Akita
The garden is a world filled with secrets. Slowly, I see more each day. The black pines twist and turn to form graceful shapes, while the moss is a carpet of green that invites you to sit by the pond. Even the stone lanterns, which dimly light the way at night, allow you to see only so much. ~ Gail Tsukiyama
Graceful Letdown quotes by Gail Tsukiyama
The tea ceremony requires years of training and practice ... yet the whole of this art, as to its detail, signifies no more than the making and serving of a cup of tea. The supremely important matter is that the act be performed in the most perfect, most polite, most graceful, most charming manner possible. ~ Lafcadio Hearn
Graceful Letdown quotes by Lafcadio Hearn
The truth was loose: I was the son of a son of a bitch, an ancestral prodigy born to clobber my way through loathsome dungheaps of idiot labor. My genes were cocked and loaded. I was a meteor, a gunslinger, a switchblade boomerang hurled from the pecker dribblets of my forefathers' untainted jalopy seed. I was Al Kaline peggin' home a beebee from the right field corner. I was Picasso applyin' the final masterstroke to his frenzied Guernica. I was Wilson Pickett stompin' up the stairway of the Midnight Hour. I was one blazin' tomahawk of m-fuggin' eel snot. Graceful and indomitable. Methodical and brain-dead. The quintessential shoprat. The Rivethead. ~ Ben Hamper
Graceful Letdown quotes by Ben Hamper
The wolves seemed far more interested in watching Marrok tear him apart. For a heartbeat of time, everyone jsut stared at the graceful ballet of death.
'Do those two have a history I don't know about?' Dow asked conversationally.
Richardson nodded. 'Tober punched Marrok's woman.'
'Ooohhhh, that explains it.' Dower snorted. 'Jesus, what kind of wolf hits a girl? ~ Cassandra Gannon
Graceful Letdown quotes by Cassandra Gannon
As an adult, I took ballet classes three times a week, and I believed it gave me better posture, a stronger body, and made me more graceful. ~ Ann Hood
Graceful Letdown quotes by Ann Hood
You're 82 years old. You've shrunk six centimetres, you only weigh 45 kilos yet you're still beautiful, graceful and desirable. We've lived together now for 58 years and I love you more than ever. I once more feel a gnawing emptiness in the hollow of my chest that is only filled when your body is pressed next to mine. ~ Andre Gorz
Graceful Letdown quotes by Andre Gorz
She had given him her hand in an indifferent way that seemed habitual to her and spoke in a correspondingly indifferent manner, though in a very pleasant voice. She was as graceful as she was beautiful, perfectly self-possessed, and had the air, I thought, of being able to attract and interest any one if she had thought it worth her while. The keeper had brought her a chair on which she sat in the middle of the porch between us. ~ Charles Dickens
Graceful Letdown quotes by Charles Dickens
Sardar Harbans Singh passed away peacefully in a wicker rocking-chair in a Srinigar garden of spring flowers and honeybees with his favourite tartan rug across his knees and his beloved son, Yuvraj the exporter of handicrafts, by his side, and when he stopped breathing the bees stopped buzzing and the air silenced its whispers and Yuvraj understood that the story of the world he had known all his life was coming to an end, and that what followed would follow as it had to, but it would unquestionably be less graceful, less courteous and less civilized than what had gone. ~ Salman Rushdie
Graceful Letdown quotes by Salman Rushdie
Women wish to be loved not because they are pretty, or good, or well bred, or graceful, or intelligent, but because they are themselves. ~ Henri Frederic Amiel
Graceful Letdown quotes by Henri Frederic Amiel
those lucky enough to have it included in their tours do not soon forget the the graceful, delicate mosaics ~ Colin Wells
Graceful Letdown quotes by Colin Wells
He looked at her an instant, for the effect of the graceful girlish figure with pale, passionate face and dark eyes full of sorrow, pride and resolution was wonderfully enhanced by the gloom of the great room, and glimpses of a gathering storm in the red autumn sky. ~ Louisa May Alcott
Graceful Letdown quotes by Louisa May Alcott
Precise, graceful, and generous, the poems in SuperLoop, seem to be born out of a deep, careful attention and a profound compassion. Sometimes the quiet observer, sometimes the kid in the center of the messed-up carnival, these poems are the fireflies you've missed all winter, the longed-for return of the bees. Unaffected and inherently hopeful, Callihan's work is as merciful as it is moving. ~ Ada Limon
Graceful Letdown quotes by Ada Limon
As I understand it, into the heart of every Christian, Christ comes, and Christ goes. When, by his Grace, the landscape of the heart becomes vast and deep and limitless, then Christ makes His abode in that graceful heart, and His Will prevails. The experience is recognized as Peace. In the absence of this experience much activity arises, divisions of every sort. Outside of the organizational enterprise, which some applaud and some mistrust, stands the figure of Jesus, nailed to a human predicament, summoning the heart to comprehend its own suffering by dissolving itself in a radical confession of hospitality. ~ Leonard Cohen
Graceful Letdown quotes by Leonard Cohen
I am not a graceful person. I am not a Sunday morning or a Friday sunset. I am a Tuesday 2 a.m., gunshots muffled by a few city blocks, I am a broken window during February. My bones crack on a nightly basis. I fall from elegance with a dull thud, and I apologize for my awkward sadness. I sometimes believe that I don't belong around people, that I belong to all the leap days that didn't happen. The way light and darkness mix under my skin has become a storm. You don't see the lightning, but you hear the echoes. ~ Anna Peters
Graceful Letdown quotes by Anna Peters
Every natural movement is graceful. Did you ever watch a kitten at play? ~ Anna Cora Mowatt
Graceful Letdown quotes by Anna Cora Mowatt
It seemed to me that to invite myself so suddenly and unexpectedly would be positively graceful, and that they would all be conquered at once and would look at me with respect.

"Do you want to join, too?" Simonov observed, with no appearance of pleasure, seeming to avoid looking at me. He knew me through and through.

It infuriated me that he knew me so thoroughly. ~ Fyodor Dostoyevsky
Graceful Letdown quotes by Fyodor Dostoyevsky
All these bold birds who fly out into the wide, widest open - it is true! At some point they will not be able to fly any farther and will squat down on some pylon or sparse crag - and very grateful for this miserable accommodation to boot! But who would want to conclude from this that there was no longer a vast and prodigious trajectory ahead of them, that they had flown as far and wide as one could fly! All our great mentors and precursors have finally come to a stop, and it is hardly the noblest and most graceful of gestures with which fatigue comes to a stop: it will also happen to you and me! Of what concern, however, is that to you and me! Other birds will fly farther! ~ Freidrich Nietzsche
Graceful Letdown quotes by Freidrich Nietzsche
His leap was exact, mathematical. The initial arc - head tucked between taut arms that spread out gradually like wings - was as graceful as a swan dive. ~ Juan Filloy
Graceful Letdown quotes by Juan Filloy
His movements were so graceful that I wondered if he had been a dancer, but his words betrayed to me that his fluid gestures were those of a trained killer. ~ Maria V. Snyder
Graceful Letdown quotes by Maria V. Snyder
I've been working hard at assuming Court polish, but the more I learn about what really goes on behind the pretty voices and waving fans and graceful bows, the more I comprehend that what is really said matters little, so long as the manner in which it is said pleases. I understand it, but I don't like it. Were I truly influential, then I would halt this foolishness that decrees that in Court one cannot be sick; that to admit you are sick is really to admit to political or social or romantic defeat; that to admit to any emotions usually means one really feels the opposite. It is a terrible kind of falsehood that people can only claim feelings as a kind of social weapon. ~ Sherwood Smith
Graceful Letdown quotes by Sherwood Smith
Outside, snow solidified itself into graceful forms. The peace of winter stars seemed permanent. ~ Toni Morrison
Graceful Letdown quotes by Toni Morrison
It is so rightly said that you only live once, but if you live it right, once is enough. Let you remind yourself that you are not only one in billions of people, but you are once in a lifetime kind of person. Let you leave no kind word unsaid, leave no good deed undone & never miss a single opportunity of celebration, occasion or possibility of feeling good or making your life & your world more beautiful. Let you stop sitting on fence waiting for your turn foolishly or just hanging on to the handrails. Let you opt for the joyful ride of your life everyday & throw as much paint as you can on the canvas of your life making it more irresistible, graceful & meaningful. Let you realize that any time spent on being unhappy, detesting or loathing is wasted. Stay Blessed & Keep Being Awesome! ~ Rajesh Goyal
Graceful Letdown quotes by Rajesh Goyal
The architects who benefit us most maybe those generous enough to lay aside their claims to genius in order to devote themselves to assembling graceful but predominantly unoriginal boxes. Architecture should have the confidence and the kindness to be a little boring. ~ Alain De Botton
Graceful Letdown quotes by Alain De Botton
Do you mind living alone?" she asked. "I've tried it both ways," he replied, "and I know it can be a letdown to come home to an empty apartment, but now I have the Siamese to greet me at the door. They're good companions; they need me; they're always happy to see me come home. On the other hand, they're always glad to see me go out - one of the things that cats do to keep a person from feeling too important. ~ Lilian Jackson Braun
Graceful Letdown quotes by Lilian Jackson Braun
When one wants to be famous, one has to dive gracefully into rivers of the blood of cannon-blasted bodies. ~ Comte De Lautreamont
Graceful Letdown quotes by Comte De Lautreamont
Do you think she was like that?"
"I've found it is helpful when talking to use actual subjects and context so your listener can understand what, exactly, you are trying to convey."
I rolled my eyes. "Like you're so big on clear communication."
"Reth, I . . ." I paused, then took a deep breath. "I'm sorry."
"Whatever are you sorry for?"
I shrugged. "How about threatening to kill you, for starters."
"That is an excellent place to start, although I must tell you those threats were rather more endearing and humorous than frightening."
I rolled my eyes. "Whatever. You really came through for me when no one else could, and I know Lend wouldn't be here without your help. So thank you." I leaned my head against his shoulder and it seemed like he almost missed a step, but then he continued on as graceful as before. I lifted my head back up, staring ahead and straining for my first glimpse of the pond. "Why did you do it? Help me, I mean. I know you don't love Lend."
His golden voice was as deliciously warm as it had always been, wrapping around me in a comforting blanket, insulating me from the bite of the December air. "No, but I do love you, silly creature that you are. ~ Kiersten White
Graceful Letdown quotes by Kiersten White
I am not graceful. ~ Analeigh Tipton
Graceful Letdown quotes by Analeigh Tipton
When the struggle seems to be drifting definitely towards a world social democracy, there may still be very great delays and disappointments before it becomes an efficient and beneficent world system. Countless people ... will hate the New World Order and will die protesting against it. When we attempt to evaluate its promise, we have to bear in mind the distress of a generation or so of malcontents, many of them quite gallant and graceful-looking people. ~ H.G.Wells
Graceful Letdown quotes by H.G.Wells
King Maven of House Calore meets my gaze the moment he knows I'm here....The instant hangs, suspended on a thread of time. A canyon of distractions yawns between us, filled with so much noise and graceful chaos, but the room might as well be empty. ~ Victoria Aveyard
