[A Buddhist monk on a pilgrimage speaks to a museum curator.]
And I come here alone. For five

forty years it was in my mind that the old Law was not well followed; being overlaid, as thou knowest, with devildom, charms, and idolatry ... '
So it comes with all faiths. ~ Rudyard Kipling
Christiansborg Museum quotes by Rudyard Kipling
His sword, Sting, Bilbo hung over his fireplace, and his coat of marvellous mail, the gift of the Dwarves from the Dragon-hoard, he lent to a museum, to the Michel Delving Mathom-house in fact. ~ J.R.R. Tolkien
Christiansborg Museum quotes by J.R.R. Tolkien
Painting is ... a correspondence between what you are and what you see. It's a moment when something is holding together in such a way that it is a universe in itself ... Within this is a test and also a judgment upon yourself, your capabilities, your promises, and the part that you play in the world. And nobody else can test that for you. Certainly not the Museum of Modern Art. ~ Milton Resnick
Christiansborg Museum quotes by Milton Resnick
A museum is not a first-hand contact: it is an illustrated lecture. And what one wants is the actual vital touch. ~ D.H. Lawrence
Christiansborg Museum quotes by D.H. Lawrence
I think the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, first of all, has got to be put into the context of being an American cultural showcase. It's there to be a museum showcase of all that's great about American music. ~ Ian Anderson
Christiansborg Museum quotes by Ian Anderson
The parts of graffiti I like are really antagonizing still - it's not something that a museum would really embrace. ~ Barry McGee
Christiansborg Museum quotes by Barry McGee
Sometimes somebody has an amazing house party and you meet great people and you dance - I've had incredible experiences. But they have been so much fewer than the awful experiences where you're just standing around like, "Why did I come here? We're all just putting on a show for each other and I might as well be in a museum." ~ Desiree Akhavan
Christiansborg Museum quotes by Desiree Akhavan
The milk is long since out of date, the bread all has mold and I think you could start a bacterial plague with what's in the crisper here…"
"Order a pizza," he suggested. "There's a place down on the corner that still owes me ten pizzas, paid for in advance."
"You can't eat pizza for breakfast!"
"Why can't I? I've been doing it for a week."
"You can cook," she said accusingly.
"When I'm sober," he agreed.
She glowered at him and went back to her chore. "Well, the eggs are still edible, barely, and there's an unopened pound of bacon. I'll make an omelet."
He collapsed into the chair at the kitchen table while she made a fresh pot of coffee and set about breaking eggs.
"You look very domesticated like that," he pointed out with a faint smile. "After we have breakfast, why don't you come to bed with me?"
She gave him a shocked glance. "I'm pregnant," she reminded him.
He nodded and laughed softly. "Yes, I know. It's an incredible turn-on."
Her hand stopped, poised in midair with a spoon in it. "Wh…What?"
"The eggs are burning," he said pleasantly.
She stirred them quickly and turned the bacon, which was frying in another pan. He thought her condition was sexy? She couldn't believe he was serious.
But apparently he was, because he watched her so intently over breakfast that she doubted if he knew what he was eating.
"Mr. Hutton told the curator of the museum in Tennessee that I wasn't coming back, and he ~ Diana Palmer
Christiansborg Museum quotes by Diana Palmer
some prominent aviation museums across India including the HAL Museum in Bangalore, the Indian Air Force Museum in Delhi and the Naval Aviation Museum in Goa which are storehouses of information ~ A. P. J. Abdul Kalam
Christiansborg Museum quotes by A. P. J. Abdul Kalam
It is a standing source of astonishment and amusement to visitors that the British Museum has so few British things in it: that it is a museum about the world as seen from Britain rather than a history focused on these islands. ~ Neil MacGregor
Christiansborg Museum quotes by Neil MacGregor
They would also need to talk sense to her. The almost-existing children, the husky-voiced daughter, a museum curator perhaps, and the gifted, less settled son, good at too many things, who failed to complete his university course, but a far better pianist than she. Both always affectionate, brilliant at Christmases and summer-holiday castles and entertaining their youngest relations. ~ Ian McEwan
Christiansborg Museum quotes by Ian McEwan
Date yourself. Take yourself out to eat. Don't share your popcorn at the movies with anyone. Stroll around an art museum alone. Fall in love with canvases. Fall in love with yourself. ~ Abhysheq Shukla
Christiansborg Museum quotes by Abhysheq Shukla
I created a successful outdoor youth festival - the Liverd festival - against all good advice. It was a great way to explore and investigate social sculptures. Having that as my kind of studio, outside of a museum or precious white-cube gallery, that was a kind of education. ~ Natalie Jeremijenko
Christiansborg Museum quotes by Natalie Jeremijenko

The best thing, though, in that museum was that everything always stayed right where it was… The only thing that would be different would be you. ~ J.D. Salinger
Christiansborg Museum quotes by J.D. Salinger
I will help build your museum
When you run out of space to hang your work
You can hang your work in mine ~ Darnell Lamont Walker
Christiansborg Museum quotes by Darnell Lamont Walker
. . . my underlying, not-so-hidden agenda is to help enhance and enrich the encounter of the museum-goer with enduring objects, in a time when we all seem to be assailed by random noise and flickering images. ~ Esther Green Bierbaum
Christiansborg Museum quotes by Esther Green Bierbaum
I love museums more than any other institution the human race has invented. Museum people are always overworked and underpaid, and they all deserve sainthood, every one. ~ Robert T. Bakker
Christiansborg Museum quotes by Robert T. Bakker
For over a century, an evolving microcosm of Anthropology's turbulent history has hidden behind the staid façade of the American Museum of Natural History. From an insider's perspective, the well-known ethnologist Stan Freed engagingly introduces us to an amazing cast of explorers, eccentrics, idealists, pranksters and forbidding intellectual - an unlikely mix that played a key role in establishing the science of Anthropology as we know it today. ~ Ian Tattersall
Christiansborg Museum quotes by Ian Tattersall
Dale Chihuly." She pulls out her phone and moves close to show me a picture of his work. "It's an eleven meter-long chandelier at the Victoria and Albert Museum."
It looks like one of those tanges she drew, only it's hanging from a ceiling. Blue and yellow. A sideways ocean.
"It looks to me like a feeling pulled straight out from under your skin," she says. ~ Cath Crowley
Christiansborg Museum quotes by Cath Crowley
In that flash of ecstasy she suddenly knew what all poetry, all music, all sculpture, except things like winged Assyrian Bulls, or the very broken pieces in the British museum, meant. ~ Angela Thirkell
Christiansborg Museum quotes by Angela Thirkell
There are hundreds of Frank Lloyd Wright buildings around the United States and in other countries, too. Wright lived into his 90s, and one of his most famous buildings, the Guggenheim Museum in New York, was completed just before his death. Wright buildings look like Wright buildings - that is their paradox. ~ Jane Smiley
Christiansborg Museum quotes by Jane Smiley
The Whitney is a museum that has a great rapport with younger artists and the community. ~ Jeff Koons
Christiansborg Museum quotes by Jeff Koons
Any city in America would like to get a museum built if they didn't have to pay for it. ~ Eli Broad
Christiansborg Museum quotes by Eli Broad
A great melancholy was hanging in the air, giving their love a more languid, more tender feeling. It was like the love one feels before a separation, it was like love in a country where there is a war, in a town where epidemics are raging. A strong love, from feeling close to death. Here death reigned, it was as if the town were the Museum of Death. ("The Dead Town") ~ Georges Rodenbach
Christiansborg Museum quotes by Georges Rodenbach
When in a museum, walk slowly but keep walking. ~ Gertrude Stein
Christiansborg Museum quotes by Gertrude Stein
Evolution writ large is the belief that a cloud of hydrogen will spontaneously invent extreme-ultraviolet lithography, perform Swan Lake, and write all the books in the British Museum. ~ Fred Reed
Christiansborg Museum quotes by Fred Reed
What would I put in a museum? Probably a museum! That's an amusing relic of our past. ~ John Hodgman
Christiansborg Museum quotes by John Hodgman
The university classroom is neither a shopping mall whose existence depends on disseminating the latest, sexiest critical approach, nor a museum, where ideas are valued because of tradition alone and where you can look but never touch. Instead, the classroom is a place of joy fueled by the quest for excellence and the productive fear generated by the awesomeness of our ignorance and our inability to transform human reason into wisdom on its own terms, when it is unhinged from a living God. ~ Rosaria Champagne Butterfield
Christiansborg Museum quotes by Rosaria Champagne Butterfield
History is a madman's museum. ~ Jeanette Winterson
Christiansborg Museum quotes by Jeanette Winterson
A walk through the storage facility of the community museum where I worked might easily have convinced you that people in the past wore only wedding dresses, carried silver candlesticks, and played with porcelain dolls. ~ Susanna Kearsley
Christiansborg Museum quotes by Susanna Kearsley
I'm curious about things that people aren't supposed to see - so, for example, I liked going to the British Museum, but I would like it better if I could go into all the offices and storage rooms, I want to look in all the drawers and - discover stuff. And I want to know about people. I mean, I know it's probably kind of rude but I want to know why you have all these boxes and what's in them and why all your windows are papered over and how long it's been that way and how do you feel when you wash things and why don't you do something about it? ~ Audrey Niffenegger
Christiansborg Museum quotes by Audrey Niffenegger
When someone witnesses something amazing, what matters most is not 'out there' . . . but deep within, at the vital emotional center of witness. ~ Lawrence Weschler
Christiansborg Museum quotes by Lawrence Weschler
The thing I'm obsessed with is really great bad paintings. I have a storage locker full of them and I want to give them their own museum. You don't even know who these artists are - you can buy them at garage sales, antique stores and places like that. They're brilliant because they were done with the intention of being great, but the artist sort of made a wrong turn. Some of them are hilarious and I can't get enough of them. ~ Jennifer Coolidge
Christiansborg Museum quotes by Jennifer Coolidge
I grew up with family who liked to travel and sightsee, so I have this pressure inside me: If I'm in a city and I have enough free time, I'd better go to a museum. I try to see parks, go outside. Or else try to feel really normal like go to Target or a drugstore, or go see a movie. ~ Lisa Loeb
Christiansborg Museum quotes by Lisa Loeb
When we put his kippah into the museum, everyone was talking about how much money it was worth and the embroidery by some famous artist and how it was a national relic, and all this -- but I was just thinking of Shabbat, and seders, and -- and it didn't mean any of those things to me. It meant lighting candles. It meant he'd hid the afikomen in the palace for me and joking with his advisors as he waited around for me to find it so he could give me a new book. National treasure? I--' She blinked away new tears, but this time the look on her face was one of indignation. ~ Shira Glassman
Christiansborg Museum quotes by Shira Glassman
I never thought that the music called "jazz" was ever meant to reach just a small group of people, or become a museum thing locked under glass like all the other dead things that were once considered artistic. ~ Miles Davis
Christiansborg Museum quotes by Miles Davis
They decided to establish a museum of modern art where works by contemporary artists would be shown. Mother was viewed as a very progressive person, and not everybody liked the paintings she bought. ~ David Rockefeller
Christiansborg Museum quotes by David Rockefeller
They took all the trees and put them in a tree museum. ~ Joni Mitchell
Christiansborg Museum quotes by Joni Mitchell
The deep sea is the largest museum on earth, it contains more history than all the museums on land combined, and yet we're only now penetrating it. ~ Robert Ballard
Christiansborg Museum quotes by Robert Ballard
Because of my job, I get a lot of opportunity to grab a few days here and there in many cool cities for press commitments, magazine shoots and premieres - Barcelona, Madrid, Rome, Paris, Stockholm, New York, Berlin. I always try to get to a gallery or museum if there's time. ~ Natalie Dormer
Christiansborg Museum quotes by Natalie Dormer
If you are planning a visit to Europe, you're probably thinking about Berlin, but if you've never been to Berlin, you're actually thinking about Warsaw. If you have been to Berlin, you'll feel you've gone back in time 10 years. Either way, there's no travel like business travel, and there's no better excuse to visit Warsaw than MCE. Be sure to visit the museum of the Warsaw resistance while you're there to learn some things about World War 2 they left out of your textbook. ~ Mike Lee
Christiansborg Museum quotes by Mike Lee
Inside the museum infinity goes up on trial. Voices echo, 'This is what salvation must be like after a while.' But Mona Lisa must have had the highway blues; you can tell by the way she smiles. ~ Bob Dylan
Christiansborg Museum quotes by Bob Dylan
Late 20th century music was a really important thing. It changed the world, and I'm part of that, and now I'm part of the museum that celebrates that. ~ Daryl Hall
Christiansborg Museum quotes by Daryl Hall
For something to become a work of art, a labeling process must take place that requires three participants: an artist who produces an apt object, a client or public, and a critic or connoisseur who mediates between the artist and the public to assure them of the artness of the thing. If I make a painting, it is not sufficient for the painting to be "art" that I consider it so, nor even that you, my friend and neighbor, admire it and hang it on your wall; it must be certified as art by competent authority and exhibited in the institutionally appropriate place, a gallery or museum. ~ Wyatt MacGaffey
Christiansborg Museum quotes by Wyatt MacGaffey
I have played in every toilet but you still want to spoil it to prove I've made a big mistake ~ Muse
Christiansborg Museum quotes by Muse
Yet Malone, remarkably, was a model of restraint compared with others, such as John Payne Collier, who was also a scholar of great gifts, but grew so frustrated at the difficulty of finding physical evidence concerning Shakespeare's life that he began to create his own, forging documents to bolster his arguments if not, ultimately, his reputation. He was eventually exposed when the keeper of mineralogy at the British Museum proved with a series of ingenious chemical tests that several of Collier's "discoveries" had been written in pencil and then traced over and that the ink in the forged passages was demonstrably not ancient. It was essentially the birth of forensic science. This was in 1859. ~ Bill Bryson
Christiansborg Museum quotes by Bill Bryson
I enter a whorehouse with the same interest as I do the British museum or the Metropolitan - in the same spirit of curiosity. Here are the works of man, here is an art of man, here is the eternal pursuit of gold and pleasure. I couldn't be more sincere. This doesn't mean that if I go to La Scala in Milan to hear Carmen I want to get up on the stage and participate. I do not. Neither do I always participate in a fine representative national whorehouse - but I must see it as a spectacle, an offering, a symptom of a nation. ~ Errol Flynn
Christiansborg Museum quotes by Errol Flynn
Youth. Murder (Biko). Slavery. Freedom. We are all creatures of ignorance at the end of the day. The natural order of the hierarchy of life states that we are creatures. Creatures of habit whether it is normal (following the status quo and all of that jazz). Creatures of marching orders and almost sanitary routine. Creatures of the abnormal. Our leaders are coldly obliterating the past. It is impossible to destroy nations, tribes, individuals without their permission. Many lessons learned from the past come to life like the connect the dots game of a child in a museum. We are swift to forget history. Bury the past like yesterday's newspaper, our infirm and elderly in nursing homes. ~ Abigail George
