Boxing in Hartlepool started on the beach at Seaton Carew where the fighters fought bare knuckle. In the early 1900s there was a boxing booth on the corner of Burbank Street known as the 'Blood Tub'.
The Blood Tub always drew the crowds and you were guaranteed a good punch up. Hartlepool was a booming ship port and someone would go round the docks and pick five coloured seamen for what was called an 'All In'. One in each corner and one in the middle and when the bell rang it was every man for himself and the winner was the one left standing after some furious toe-to-toe exchanges. That was always a big crowd puller. ~ Stephen Richards
Blood Tub quotes by Stephen Richards
Feather to fire,fire to blood
Blood to bone,bone to marrow
Marrow to ashes, ashes to snow ~ Gregory Colbert
Blood Tub quotes by Gregory Colbert
I tell you these massacres have to come. They have to. There's bad dudes selling the Blood. Can you believe? Selling the Blood. Least they were. I expect they're played out too and running for their lives now like everybody else. ~ Anne Rice
Blood Tub quotes by Anne Rice
Baptised by the sky, the world was born again, and hope washed a year's dust and blood from the mountain. ~ Gregory David Roberts
Blood Tub quotes by Gregory David Roberts
You know, in addition to your mind-reading abilities, I may have absorbed some sluttiness from your blood, ~ Jeaniene Frost
Blood Tub quotes by Jeaniene Frost
Only those are happy who never think or, rather, who only think about life's bare necessities, and to think about such things means not to think at all. True thinking resembles a demon who muddies the spring of life or a sickness which corrupts its roots. To think all the time, to raise questions, to doubt your own destiny, to feel the weariness of living, to be worn out to the point of exhaustion by thoughts and life, to leave behind you, as symbols of your life's drama, a trail of smoke and blood - all this means you are so unhappy that reflection and thinking appear as a curse causing a violent revulsion in you. ~ Emil Cioran
Blood Tub quotes by Emil Cioran
A wet cigarette butt clung to my cheek like a mashed cockroach. I could smell whiskey and beer in my clothes and Gable's blood on my knuckles and I swore I could taste whiskey surging out of my stomach into my throat, like an old friend who has come back in a time of need. ~ James Lee Burke
Blood Tub quotes by James Lee Burke
For a peace wrought in blood is nothing short of tyranny. ~ Jocelyn Murray
Blood Tub quotes by Jocelyn Murray
The mutated Marfan gene creates a defective version of fibrillin, a protein that provides structural support for soft tissues like blood vessels. Marfan victims often die young, in fact, after their aortas grow threadbare and rupture. ~ Sam Kean
Blood Tub quotes by Sam Kean
Fondly do we hope, fervently do we pray, that this mighty scourge of war may speedily pass away. Yet, if God wills that this continue until all the wealth piled by the bondsman's two hundred and fifty years of unrequited toil shall be sunk, and until every drop of blood drawn with the lash shall be paid by another drawn with the sword, as was said three thousand years ago, so still it must be said, 'The judgments of the Lord are true and righteous altogether. ~ Abraham Lincoln
Blood Tub quotes by Abraham Lincoln
I'm gonna take you to the bank, Senator Trent. To the blood bank! ~ Steven Seagal
Blood Tub quotes by Steven Seagal
In addition to pumping the blood of life within our bodies, we may think of the heart as a belief-to-matter translator. It converts the perceptions of our experiences, beliefs, and imagination into the coded language of waves that communicate with the world beyond our bodies. Perhaps this is what philosopher and poet John Mackenzie meant when he stated, "The distinction between what is real and what is imaginary is not one that can be finely maintained ... all existing thing are ... imaginary." ~ Gregg Braden
Blood Tub quotes by Gregg Braden
Hold on to me!" Tedros yelled, hacking briars with his training sword.Dazed, Agatha clung to his chest as he withstood thorn lashes with moans of pain. Soon he had the upper hand and pulled Agatha from the Woods towards the spiked gates, which glowed in recognition and pulled apart, cleaving a narrow path for the two Evers. As the gates speared shut behind them,Agatha looked up at limping Tedros, crisscrossed with bloody scratches, blue shirt shredded away.
"Had a feeling Sophie was getting in through the Woods," he panted, hauling her up into slashed arms before she could protest. "So Professor Dovey gave me permission to take some fairies and stakeout the outer gates. Should have known you'd be here trying to catch her yourself."
Agatha gaped at him dumbly.
"Stupid idea for a princess to take on witches alone," Tedros said, dripping sweat on her pink dress.
"Where is she?" Agatha croaked. "Is she safe?"
"Not a good idea for princesses to worry about witches either," Tedros said, hands gripping her waist. Her stomach exploded with butterflies.
"Put me down," she sputtered -
"More bad ideas from the princess."
"Put me down!"Tedros obeyed and Agatha pulled away.
"I'm not a princess!" she snapped, fixing her collar.
"If you say so," the prince said, eyes drifting downward.Agatha followed them to her gashed legs, waterfalls of brilliant blood. She saw blood blurring - Tedros smiled.
"One . . . two . . . three . . ."She f ~ Soman Chainani
Blood Tub quotes by Soman Chainani
the Temple was rebuilt, but by then the religion of Israel had been marked forever by the piety of the exile. Alongside the single Temple, where blood sacrifice was celebrated, arose numerous synagogues, places for meeting and for prayer, and the dominium of the priests yielded to the growing influence of the Pharisees and Scribes, men of the book and of study. In 70 A.D., the Roman legions again destroyed the Temple. But the learned rabbi Joahannah ben-Zakkaj, slipped covertly out of Jerusalem through the siege and obtained permission from Vespasian to continue the teaching of the Torah in the city of Jamnia. The temple has never been rebuilt since, and study, the Talmud, has become the real temple of Israel.24 This complex relationship to the Talmud is in fact a key to understanding the life and work of Mark Rothko. ~ Annie Cohen-Solal
Blood Tub quotes by Annie Cohen-Solal
[Blood upon killing Levasseur] 'I think that cancels the articles between us,' he said. ~ Rafael Sabatini
Blood Tub quotes by Rafael Sabatini
This planet Earth, the act of putting a roof over our heads, our flesh and blood existence, it's all very temporary. ~ Melissa Auf Der Maur
Blood Tub quotes by Melissa Auf Der Maur
I sense a scream passing through nature. I painted ... the clouds as actual blood. The colour shrieked. ~ Edvard Munch
Blood Tub quotes by Edvard Munch
The actor passed him his cigarette case. "No, you must tell us all about it. One should always be reminded of the fact that even in this best of worlds the blood still flows freely."

"The Dead Jew ~ Hanns Heinz Ewers
Blood Tub quotes by Hanns Heinz Ewers
There is power in a King's blood. ~ George R R Martin
Blood Tub quotes by George R R Martin
The room was plainly but adequately furnished; she noted the shower stall in the bathroom beyond. Actually, she would have preferred a tub, but this would do. ~ Robert Bloch
Blood Tub quotes by Robert Bloch
I made it clear that I will consider - this is the important phrase I am trying to say - myself most fortunate if Jesus Christ will accept the sacrifice of my blood to raise the voice for the justice and rights of the persecuted and victimized Christians and other minorities in Pakistan. ~ Shahbaz Bhatti
Blood Tub quotes by Shahbaz Bhatti
Her bodice covered in so much blood that he couldn't tell where she was bleeding. ~ Sarah J. Maas
Blood Tub quotes by Sarah J. Maas
Perhaps they had tried to migrate in the past but had found either their winter habitat destroyed or the path so fragmented and fraught with danger that it made more sense - to these few birds - to ignore the tuggings of the stars and seasons and instead to try to carve out new lives, new ways of being, even in such a stark and severe landscape: or rather, in a stark and severe period - knowing that lushness and bounty were still retained with that landscape, that it was only a phase, that better days would come. That in fact (the snipe knowing these things with their blood, ten million years in the world) the austere times were the very thing, the very imbalance, that would summon the resurrection of that frozen richness within the soil - if indeed that richness, that magic, that hope, did still exist beneath the ice and snow. Spring would come like its own green fire, if only the injured ones could hold on. And ~ Lex Williford
Blood Tub quotes by Lex Williford
I love books, they're in my blood. ~ Karen Marie Moning
Blood Tub quotes by Karen Marie Moning
Isn't everything alive already in your blood? ~ Friedrich Holderlin
Blood Tub quotes by Friedrich Holderlin
One can wait a whole lifetime for a moment like this. The woman whom you never hoped to meet now sits before you and she talks and looks exactly like the person you dreamed about. But the strangest of all is that you never realized before that you had dreamed about her. Your whole past is like a long sleep, which would have been forgotten had there been no dream. And the dream too, might have been forgotten had there been no memory, but remembrance is there in the blood and the blood is like an ocean in which every thing is washed away, but that which is new and more substantial even than life: Reality. ~ Henry Miller
Blood Tub quotes by Henry Miller
I said, I love you, you arrogant arse." She smiled. "I always have. You're my mate, Owen Breese MacLaren. The distance won't change that. It never has. ~ Elizabeth Morgan
Blood Tub quotes by Elizabeth Morgan
I learnt all the words worthy of the court of blood
So that I could break the rule
I learnt all the words and broke them up
To make a single word:
Homeland.. ~ Mahmoud Darwish
Blood Tub quotes by Mahmoud Darwish
I often had no scruples about deceiving nitwits and scoundrels and fools when I found it necessary ... We avenge intelligence when we deceive a fool, and ... deceiving a fool is an exploit worthy of an intelligent man. What has infused my very blood with an unconquerable hatred of the whole tribe of fools from the day of my birth is that I become a fool myself when I am in their company. ~ Giacomo Casanova
Blood Tub quotes by Giacomo Casanova
Denise's first thought on seeing her blood stain Spade's lips was "oh shit". Then the fire that leapt into his gaze and the way he dominated her mouth in his next kiss made her decide that self-preservation was overrated. ~ Jeaniene Frost
Blood Tub quotes by Jeaniene Frost
And as he plucked his cursed steel away,
Mark how the blood of Caesar followed it,
As rushing out of doors, to be resolved
If Brutus unkindly knocked or no. ~ William Shakespeare
Blood Tub quotes by William Shakespeare
WE ARE MADE OF STARDUST, THE SCIENTISTS SAY - THE iron in our blood, the calcium in our bones, and the chlorine in our skin forged in the furnaces of ancient stars whose explosions scattered the elements across the galaxy. From the ashes grew new stars, and around one of them, a system of planets and asteroids and moons. A cluster of dust coalesced to form the earth, and life emerged from the detritus of eight-billion-year-old deaths. ~ Rachel Held Evans
