And then the queen felt that she might as well make all talking illegal, because almost every conflict tended to start with someone saying something. ~ Fredrik Backman
Xinjiang Conflict quotes by Fredrik Backman
If we are going to live with our deepest differences then we must learn about one another. ~ Deborah J. Levine
Xinjiang Conflict quotes by Deborah J. Levine
Not the violent conflict between parts of the truth, but the quiet suppression of half of it, is the formidable evil: there is always hope when people are forced to listen to both sides; it is when they attend only to one that errors harden into prejudices, and truth itself ceases to have the effect of truth, by being exaggerated into falsehood. ~ John Stuart Mill
Xinjiang Conflict quotes by John Stuart Mill
So long as the spectator has to figure out the meaning of this or that person, or the presuppositions of this or that conflict of inclinations and purposes, he cannot become completely absorbed in the activities and sufferings of the chief characters or feel breathless pity and fear. ~ Friedrich Nietzsche
Xinjiang Conflict quotes by Friedrich Nietzsche
When tragedy established itself in England it did so in terms of plots and spectacle that had much more to do with medieval apocalypse than with the mythos and opsis of Aristotle. Later, tragedy itself succumbs to the pressure of 'demythologizing'; the End itself, in modern literary plotting loses its downbeat, tonic-and-dominant finality, and we think of it, as the theologians think of Apocalypse, as immanent rather than imminent. Thus, as we shall see, we think in terms of crisis rather than temporal ends; and make much of subtle disconfirmation and elaborate peripeteia. And we concern ourselves with the conflict between the deterministic pattern any plot suggests, and the freedom of persons within that plot to choose and so to alter the structure, the relation of beginning, middle, and end.

Naïvely predictive apocalypses implied a strict concordance between beginning, middle, and end. Thus the opening of the seals had to correspond to recorded historical events. Such a concordance remains a deeply desired object, but it is hard to achieve when the beginning is lost in the dark backward and abysm of time, and the end is known to be unpredictable. This changes our views of the patterns of time, and in so far as our plots honour the increased complexity of these ways of making sense, it complicates them also. If we ask for comfort from our plots it will be a more difficult comfort than that which the archangel offered Adam:

How soon hath thy prediction, ~ Frank Kermode
Xinjiang Conflict quotes by Frank Kermode
We can remind the world that all the dead on both sides have not settled our differences, so now it is time for the living to renounce violence as a means of solving this conflict. ~ Letty Cottin Pogrebin
Xinjiang Conflict quotes by Letty Cottin Pogrebin
To be adult in relationship is not to be conflict-free, it's to resolve conflicts mindfully. ~ David Richo
Xinjiang Conflict quotes by David Richo
When you boil war down or all conflict down to two people, it's a great advert for humanity sometimes. People can find connections with each other, regardless of the bigger picture. ~ John Bradley-West
Xinjiang Conflict quotes by John Bradley-West
Conflict cannot survive without your participation ~ Wayne W. Dyer
Xinjiang Conflict quotes by Wayne W. Dyer
To see you is to forget my name.
To forget this tight collar
and that delayed train.
To forget the conflict with the landlady
and the worry that my students won't like me.
These trifles lose themselves
in the valleys of your brows
and the seas of your hair.

To see you is to forget my name.
To forget if it matters what I do
and whether what I do matters.
To forget who I think I am
and who I think I ought to become.
To forget every past moment
and unremember
every moment to come.

To see you is to forget my name.
To forget myself
and forget the world.
These trivialities drown themselves
in the dark eyes that stare back at me.
Because to see you is to see
you.
Only you. ~ Kamand Kojouri
Xinjiang Conflict quotes by Kamand Kojouri
The real war does not resemble the legendary war in its process or its conclusion. If it had inspired or directed the development of the legend, then certainly the Ring would have been seized and used against Sauron; he would not have been annihilated but enslaved, and Barad-Dûr would not have been destroyed but occupied. Saruman, failing to get possession of the Ring, would in the confusion and treacheries of the time have found in Mordor the missing links in his own researches into Ring-lore, and before long he would have made a Great Ring of his own with which to challenge the self-styled Ruler of Middle-earth. In that conflict both sides would have held hobbits in hatred and contempt: they would not long have survived even as slaves. ~ J.R.R. Tolkien
Xinjiang Conflict quotes by J.R.R. Tolkien
Shall there come a day when wise men are able to unite the dreams of youth and the delights of learning as reproach brings together hearts in conflict? Shall there come a day when man's teacher is nature, and humanity is his book ~ Kahlil Gibran
Xinjiang Conflict quotes by Kahlil Gibran
Conflict is the gadfly of thought. It stirs us to observation and memory. It instigates invention. It shocks us out of sheep-like passivity, and sets us at noting and contriving ... conflict is a sine qua non of reflection and ingenuity. ~ John Dewey
Xinjiang Conflict quotes by John Dewey
Love is the most ethically consistent experience, because selfishness and altruism no longer seem opposed or in conflict. ~ Peter Breggin
Xinjiang Conflict quotes by Peter Breggin
WHEN YOU ARE IN CONFLICT WITH SOMEONE, THERE IS ONE FACTOR THAT CAN MAKE THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN DAMAGING YOUR RELATIONSHIP AND DEEPENING IT. THAT FACTOR IS ATTITUDE. - William James ~ Jack Canfield
Xinjiang Conflict quotes by Jack Canfield
I believe that there was a great age, a great epoch when man did not make war: previous to 2000 B.C. Then the self had not reallybecome aware of itself, it had not separated itself off, the spirit was not yet born, so there was no internal conflict, and hence no permanent external conflict. ~ D.H. Lawrence
Xinjiang Conflict quotes by D.H. Lawrence
Love does more than bring peace where there is conflict. It brings a different way of being in the world. ~ Gary Zukav
Xinjiang Conflict quotes by Gary Zukav
A conflict begins and ends in the hearts and minds of people, not in the hilltops. ~ Amos Oz
Xinjiang Conflict quotes by Amos Oz
Giving reasons during conflict to justify or defend a viewpoint is just as manipulative as giving reasons to attack that viewpoint. Neither of these routes is an honest assertive I want that can lead to a workable compromise of interests to quickly resolve the conflict. ~ Manuel J. Smith
Xinjiang Conflict quotes by Manuel J. Smith
Self-centeredness will bring on the destruction of our world. National pride separates people. All people need the same thing. When you really get down to it, you'll find that all people need good food, clean water, clean air, and a decent environment, meaning education as to how to relate to one another and to avoid conflict, how to accept the differences where different people draw different conclusions. ~ Jacque Fresco
Xinjiang Conflict quotes by Jacque Fresco
At times, the reader of World War II literature must think every American, from general to G.I., kept a war diary, later mined for memoirs of the conflict. Few diaries, however, were published in their own right. ~ Nigel Hamilton
Xinjiang Conflict quotes by Nigel Hamilton
I will end the history of division and conflict through reconciliation and fairness. ~ Park Geun-hye
Xinjiang Conflict quotes by Park Geun-hye
Semantics ... is a sober and modest discipline which has no pretensions of being a universal patent-medicine for all the ills and diseases of mankind, whether imaginary or real. You will not find in semantics any remedy for decayed teeth or illusions of grandeur or class conflict. Nor is semantics a device for establishing that everyone except the speaker and his friends is speaking nonsense ~ Alfred Tarski
Xinjiang Conflict quotes by Alfred Tarski
When we trust the makers of baby formula more than we do our own ability to nourish our babies, we lose a chance to claim an aspect of our power as women. Thinking that baby formula is as good as breast milk is believing that thirty years of technology is superior to three million years of nature's evolution. Countless women have regained trust in their bodies through nursing their children, even if they weren't sure at first that they could do it. It is an act of female power, and I think of it as feminism in its purest form. ~ Christine Northrup
Xinjiang Conflict quotes by Christine Northrup
Poverty - the greatest cause of human suffering on the planet - is itself exacerbated by conflict, competition for resources, injustice, even the global downturn and climate change. Diseases like AIDS, TB and malaria cannot be tackled without adequate resources. So you see everything is connected. In order to address any major cause of human suffering, we have to work together across many fronts. ~ Desmond Tutu
Xinjiang Conflict quotes by Desmond Tutu
One of the greatest challenges facing humanity is that of being able to live with one another in a peaceful and civilized way. We all have our individual uniqueness and perceptions of how we believe the world ought to function. This creates conflict unless there is a deeper realization in the collective consciousness and an understanding that most human desires desecrate the beauty of the nowness of life. ~ Christopher Dines
Xinjiang Conflict quotes by Christopher Dines
Most arguments are about programming; most resolutions are reached through a process of unlearning then relearning. ~ Oli Anderson
Xinjiang Conflict quotes by Oli Anderson
If people just asked: "Here are the needs of both sides, here are the resources. What can be done to meet these needs?" the conflict would be easy to resolve. ~ Marshall B. Rosenberg
Xinjiang Conflict quotes by Marshall B. Rosenberg
Peace is not absence of conflict, it is the ability to handle conflict by peaceful means. ~ Ronald Reagan
Xinjiang Conflict quotes by Ronald Reagan
The more we love God the more we will obey. The more we obey the more we will be aware of the reality of Christ in our lives. The more we are aware of Christ in our lives, the more victory we will experience. The more victory we experience, the less difficult the choices are and the less conflict we have within ourselves. ~ Norma Becker
Xinjiang Conflict quotes by Norma Becker
We think of violence as being conflict and fighting and wars and so forth, but the most ongoing horrific measure of violence is in the horrible poverty of the Third World ... and the poverty in the United States as well. ~ Martin Sheen
Xinjiang Conflict quotes by Martin Sheen
For emotional reasons, connected with my affection for my parents, I was a reluctant atheist, but giving up religion brought peace of mind because intellectual conflict was resolved. ~ J.J.C. Smart
Xinjiang Conflict quotes by J.J.C. Smart
I have found that winning isn't everything, and, in fact, in the relationships I most care about, it isn't anything. ~ Robert Brault
Xinjiang Conflict quotes by Robert Brault
Reporters immediately push their interviewees into the most extreme version by saying in a shocked tone, 'Well, are you saying that ... They're trying to make people be as hostile and opposed to each other as possible because they think only conflict is news. ~ Gloria Steinem
Xinjiang Conflict quotes by Gloria Steinem
Those who live as though God sets the rules are not going by their own rules. That is the self-sacrifice, or selflessness, that peace more often than not requires. Those who insist on going by their own rules cannot make that sacrifice. They are the steady adherents of (global) conflict because they are forever fighting both themselves and others to do whatever they think that they want to do. ~ Criss Jami
Xinjiang Conflict quotes by Criss Jami
