The guy smiled at me, and I glanced at him again just in time to look directly into his eyes.
My mistake.
Sight was a common Talent, but my magic went beyond seeing the world with crystal clarity or being able to navigate through the dark like it was daylight.
Because I could also see into people.
All I had to do was stare into someone's eyes, and I knew exactly what they were feeling at that moment, whether it was love, hate, anger, or something else. Not only that, but I could actually feel the emotion in my own heart, just like the person who was experiencing it. Soulsight, it was called. A major Talent and one that I could have done without. Most people didn't have a lot of nice thoughts, feelings, or emotions, not even toward their own so-called friends and family.
But this guy . . . he radiated cold sorrow, as though he was carrying around a heavy burden that he could never, ever be free from. Still, there was a rock-hard strength mixed in with his sorrow, along with a flicker of something else buried deep, deep down . . . a hot spark that I couldn't quite identify.
I knew in an instant that he was the sort of guy who was exceedingly loyal to his friends. Who felt responsible for others. Who tried to help people as much as he could even if they didn't deserve it, and he ended up being the one who got hurt instead. The sort of guy that others saw as a leader and naturally flocked to. The sort of guy who was just so disgustingly fascinating t ~ Jennifer Estep
Devon Sinclair quotes by Jennifer Estep
What I can make people do . . . it's not what they want to do. It may sound corny, but I want people to like me for me, not because I can force them to or because of who my mom is or who I am in the Family. You know?"
He raised his green gaze to my blue one. "That's one of the things I like about you, Lila. You don't care about any of that."
"Just one of the things?" I teased, trying to make him laugh a little, just so he'd forget his guilt and grief, if only for a few moments.
"Just one." His voice took on a low, husky note. "I could list all the others, if you want."
My gaze locked with his and my soulsight kicked in, showing me all of his emotions. And I felt them, too - more intensely than I ever had before. His heart still ached with that soul-crushing guilt, and it always would. But that hot spark I'd seen inside him that first day at the Razzle Dazzle had finally ignited into a roaring fire, burning as hot and bright as my own emotions were right now.
Devon hesitated, then leaned in, just a little. My breath caught in my throat.
He inched forward a little more. I wet my lips.
He came even closer, so close that his warm breath brushed my cheek and his scent flooded my nose, that sharp, fresh tang of pine. Clean and crisp, just like he was, inside and out. I sighed. Suddenly, my hands itched to touch him, to trace my fingers over the sharp planes of his face, and then slide them lower, over all of his warm, delicious muscles . . .

Devon Sinclair quotes by Jennifer Estep
If you aren't in love, Willow Vaughn, then my name isn't Miriam Brigham."
Willow started out of her daydreaming and glanced up from the laundry tub. Miriam stood before her with her fists planted on her hips. "Now, Miriam, I-"
"No sense denying it, young lady. You've got that dreamy dazed glow about you. Rider Sinclair isn't much better, the way he hangs around you, like a bee drawn to honey. He's always holding your hand or throwing his arm around you when he thinks I'm not looking."
"Well, even if I were in love, it wouldn't change anything. I still don't want another man to look after, and I don't need one looking out for me either. I can take care of myself!"
"Course, you can!" Miriam agreed, picking the last sheet out of the rinse water and wringing it out. "Most women can. Look at me, I run a boarding house and support myself just fine. But let me tell you something. That lonely bed of mine is mighty cold on winter nights, even here in the territory."
Willow blushed and concentrated on her hands where they rested on the edge of the tub.
"Willow," Miriam continued, "you've been managing your pa just fine since he got home. A husband isn't any more difficult to manage than a father, unless, of course, you're married to a no-good lout."
Willow dried her hands on the wide white apron around her middle. "But, Miriam, if I don't marry, then I don't have to bother finagling a man to my way of doing things. Staying single makes a hell of a lot m ~ Charlotte McPherren
Devon Sinclair quotes by Charlotte McPherren
There is no mention of mistletoe as a sacred herb. ~ Eleanour Sinclair Rohde
Devon Sinclair quotes by Eleanour Sinclair Rohde
All Negroes shall be prohibited from voting, holding public office, practicing law, medicine, or teaching in any class above the grade of grammar school, and they shall be taxed 100 per cent of all sums in excess of $10,000 per family per year which they may earn or in any other manner receive. ~ Sinclair Lewis
Devon Sinclair quotes by Sinclair Lewis
He had expected that traditionally Republican Vermont would give him too drearily easy a task in preaching Trowbridge. What he found was a dismaying preference for the theoretically Democratic Buzz Windrip. And that preference, Doremus perceived, wasn't even a pathetic trust in Windrip's promises of Utopian bliss for everyone in general. It was a trust in increased cash for the voter himself, and for his family, very much in particular. ~ Sinclair Lewis
Devon Sinclair quotes by Sinclair Lewis
She did her work with the thoroughness of a mind which reveres details and never quite understands them. ~ Sinclair Lewis
Devon Sinclair quotes by Sinclair Lewis
No short-cut that tries to bypass the patient unfolding of the true character of God, and our relationship to him as his children, can ever succeed in providing long-term spiritual therapy. ~ Sinclair B. Ferguson
Devon Sinclair quotes by Sinclair B. Ferguson
You know what you are, Mr. Vail?"
"In a hurry?" he answered.
"A coward. ~ Devon Monk
Devon Sinclair quotes by Devon Monk
said. "I was just always told that it wasn't very ladylike." "Fuck that," he said succinctly, and I laughed. "It's language. It's genderless. Say what you want. If 'fuck' says it best, then fucking say 'fuck. ~ Glenna Sinclair
Devon Sinclair quotes by Glenna Sinclair
It's a corollary to Murphy's law. If you're not prepared, bad things will happen. If you are, nothing goes wrong. ~ Cherise Sinclair
Devon Sinclair quotes by Cherise Sinclair
But where are we going?"
Glancing back at her,he smiled a wicked smile. "Westminster."
"Westminster! Now? What about the Feast of the Circumcision of Our Lord? I'm the First Footer! I can't just leave."
Ranulf came back in and gave her a comforting kiss on the forehead before placing a softer one on her lips.
Unfortunately, that is one tradition we must break. So pack only what is necessary and don your warmest gown."
Bronwyn's heart started pounding as she realized just who Ranulf intended to see and confront. "What are you planning to do to Luc?"
But the question was issued to an empty corridor. Ranulf was gone, and the next time she was to see him, they would be riding out of Hunswick at a speed she wouldn't understand for another three days. ~ Michele Sinclair
Devon Sinclair quotes by Michele Sinclair
When I look at the cross, I learn to say: 'The Son of God loved me, and gave Himself for me' (Galatians 2:20). I begin to believe with Paul that if God did not spare His own Son, but gave Him up to the cross for me, then He loves me so much He will always give me only what will bring me blessing (Romans 8:32). ~ Sinclair B. Ferguson
Devon Sinclair quotes by Sinclair B. Ferguson
I can look at something that others (might not) and I can see the value in it. I can make that film a film that everybody wants to see. ~ DeVon Franklin
Devon Sinclair quotes by DeVon Franklin
I opened the door as quickly as I could - speedy as a snail in glue. My fine-motor coordination was set on suck mode. ~ Devon Monk
Devon Sinclair quotes by Devon Monk
The word "cannibal," the English variant of the Spanish word canibal, comes from the word caribal, a reference to the native Carib people in the West Indies, who Columbus thought ate human flesh and from whom the word "Caribbean" originated. By virtue of being Caribbean, all "West Indian" people are already, in a purely linguistic sense, born savage. ~ Safiya Sinclair
Devon Sinclair quotes by Safiya Sinclair
Payton "Sin" Sinclair was an unapologetic people-watcher. As a sports consultant, working with some of the biggest and most recognizable athletes in sports and business, he had to be able to read the smallest nuances of others. That ability was just one of the unique attributes that set him apart from the competition and made him the go-to person when corporations wanted to align themselves with the top professional athletes in the country. ~ Francis Ray
Devon Sinclair quotes by Francis Ray
(Devon) "Cam, what's wrong?"
He cursed and held her tighter. "Help me," he rasped.
Her senses dizzy from the scent and feel of him, it took a few moments for the words to register. She stroked her fingers through his thick, soft hair. "Help you?"
His head moved against her hand, as much a show of helpless pleasure as it was a nod. "Help me slow down."
She shook her head. "I don't want you to slow down - "
"I want to be gentle," he said roughly, his warm breath tickling her neck. "But I'm so fucking turned on right now all I can think about is pounding into you. ~ Kaylea Cross
Devon Sinclair quotes by Kaylea Cross
Sometimes I wish the girl would make the first move. ~ Devon Werkheiser
Devon Sinclair quotes by Devon Werkheiser
The moment the door slipped away beneath Ranulf's fist as she opened it, his heart had stopped. It had been racing with anticipation, but the second he saw her,he froze and stared, in shcok. A pink crease line ran down her cheek. "You've been sleeping!" he bellowed, barging his way into the room. All this time, he had been frantic, concerned that Bronwyn was upset with him, worried about her feelings...and instead of weeping inconsolably, she had been blissfully unconscious. ~ Michele Sinclair
Devon Sinclair quotes by Michele Sinclair
Rough night?" Zay asked.
"Oh, no. Glorious, thanks. Mum had me cross-checking data on solid Veiled all damn night.Fuckin' A, there better be a shot of whiskey at the end of this damn morning."
"Nola said she'd have fresh coffee," I said.

Devon Sinclair quotes by Sinclair Lewis
Mother Nature," he murdered half aloud and grinned, "we think of her as a benevolent old lady. Maybe instead she's the wantonest kind of whore. ~ Harold Sinclair
Devon Sinclair quotes by Harold Sinclair
... and suddenly I love you beyond all measure is not just words but a heart, a soul bursting open, a stripping raw of all pretense. It is Sully, it is Gabriel, it is his tears on my face, his body in mine, our minds seamless. It is hopes and dreams and failures. It is apologies and a prayer for redemption. It is heaven and damnation.
All that I am is yours pales beside it.
It is everything.
It is love. ~ Linnea Sinclair
Devon Sinclair quotes by Linnea Sinclair
He was in stature but a small man, yet remember that so were Napoleon, Lord Beaverbrook, Stephen A. Douglas, Frederick the Great, and the Dr. Goebbels who is privily known throughout Germany as Wotan's Mickey Mouse. ~ Sinclair Lewis
Devon Sinclair quotes by Sinclair Lewis
I just wish people wouldn't quote Lincoln or the Bible, or hang out the flag or the cross, to cover up something that belongs more to the bank-book and the three golden balls. ~ Sinclair Lewis
Devon Sinclair quotes by Sinclair Lewis
When he came home that night he was in a very somber mood, having begun to see at last how those might be right who had laughed at him for his faith in America. ~ Upton Sinclair
Devon Sinclair quotes by Upton Sinclair
Despite his persecutions, Mr. [Upton] Sinclair reveals himself in Money Writes! to be an enviable man. Always the thing he desires to believe is the thing he feels he knows to be true. ~ Dorothy Parker
Devon Sinclair quotes by Dorothy Parker
Those who are most conscious of forgiveness are invariably those who have been most acutely convicted of their sin. ~ Sinclair B. Ferguson
Devon Sinclair quotes by Sinclair B. Ferguson
The Canadian circle in L.A. is really close. There's a magnet effect where we all just huddle together somehow. It's one big Canadian family, really. ~ Devon Bostick
Devon Sinclair quotes by Devon Bostick
HIS march to greatness was not without disastrous stumbling. ~ Sinclair Lewis
Devon Sinclair quotes by Sinclair Lewis
After his remarks upon suffrage he abruptly questioned her about herself. His kindliness and the firmness of his personality enveloped her and she accepted him as one who had a right to know what she thought and wore and ate and read. He was positive. He had grown from a sketched-in stranger to a friend, whose gossip was important news. She noticed the healthy solidity of his chest. His nose, which had seemed irregular and large, was suddenly virile. ~ Sinclair Lewis
Devon Sinclair quotes by Sinclair Lewis
He had no affection left in his life - only the pitiful mockery of it in the camaraderie of vice. ~ Upton Sinclair
Devon Sinclair quotes by Upton Sinclair
Waking up in the morning, you didn't have to even think, you did it. Being able to get to work, didn't even have to think, you did it. That's miraculous. ~ DeVon Franklin
Devon Sinclair quotes by DeVon Franklin
It is impossible to get a man to understand something if his livelihood depends on him not understanding. ~ Upton Sinclair
Devon Sinclair quotes by Upton Sinclair
Eyeing me playfully, he tossed a rock back and forth between his hands. Was that an accident, or do you have a wet t-shirt competition you need me to get you ready for? ~ Devon Ashley
Devon Sinclair quotes by Devon Ashley
It is an unimaginatively standardized background, a sluggishness, of speech and manners, a rigid ruling of the spirit by the desire to appear respectable. It is contentment ... the contentment of the quiet dead, who are scornful of the living for their restless walking. It is negation canonized as the one positive virtue. It is the prohibition of happiness. It is slavery self-sought and self-defended. It is dullness made God. A savorless people, gulping tasteless food, and sitting afterward, coatless and thoughtless, in rocking chairs prickly with inane decorations, listening to mechanical music, saying mechanical things about the excellence of Ford automobiles, and viewing themselves as the greatest race in the world. ~ Sinclair Lewis
Devon Sinclair quotes by Sinclair Lewis
To the best of my knowledge and belief, the average American newspaper, even of the so-called better sort, is not only quite as bad as Upton Sinclair says it is, but 10 times worse, 10 times as ignorant, 10 times as unfair and tyrannical, 10 times as complaisant and pusillanimous, and 10 times as devious, hypocritical, disingenuous, deceitful, pharisaical, Pecksniffian, fraudulent, slippery, unscrupulous, perfidious, lewd and dishonest. ~ H.L. Mencken
Devon Sinclair quotes by H.L. Mencken
The sound of his rough voice was ... comforting, like there was safety wherever he was. Well, some safety ... he certainly had an awful lot of sneaky tricks up his sleeve. ~ Cherise Sinclair
Devon Sinclair quotes by Cherise Sinclair
