Similarly, he forgot - or never really understood - that we live in a culture where men, as a group, have more power than women.

This isn't a controversial statement, despite the protestations of guys who funnel their frustration that not all extremely young, conventionally attractive women want to sleep with them into and argument that women, as a group, have "all the power." (Bill Maher, repping for his fan base, famously jokes that men have to do all sorts of shit to get laid, but women only have to do "their hair.")

The really great thing about this argument is how the patently nonsensical premise - that some young women's ability to manipulate certain men equals a greater degree of gendered power than say, owning the presidency for 220-odd years - obscures the most chilling part: in this mindset, "all the power" means, simply, the power to withhold consent.

Let that sink in for a minute. If one believes women are more powerful that men because we own practically all of the vaginas, then women's power to withhold consent to sex is the greatest power there is.

Which means the guy who can take away a woman's right to consent is basically a superhero. Right? ~ Kate Harding
Young Womens quotes by Kate Harding
Be thou an example. ~ The Church Of Jesus Christ Of Latter-day Saints
Young Womens quotes by The Church Of Jesus Christ Of Latter-day Saints
The Young Women's Christian Association is nourished by its roots in Christianity and, at the same time, over the years, it's been enriched by beliefs and values from all kinds of places, even, in fact, strengthened by our diversity. ~ Patricia Ireland
Young Womens quotes by Patricia Ireland
He watched the aperture of the young women's lovely face close ever so slightly and felt a pang in his heart. ~ James Collins
Young Womens quotes by James Collins
Investing in women, helping women to achieve their dreams, sending young girls to college. Trying to train young girls to be leaders. Sponsoring the Minerva Awards. All of these programs didn't exist before that help women day in and day out. ~ Maria Shriver
Young Womens quotes by Maria Shriver
We've come a long way from the time when the crowning achievement in a woman's life was her youthful marriage. And many would agree that this represents progress for women. But when did the search for someone to marry become self-absorbed and pathetic? This absence of social sympathy for women's ambitions to marry is all the more striking because the social world has cared so deeply about virtually every other aspect of these privileged young women's inner and outer lives. ( ... ) The achievement of a good marriage is the one area of life where the most privileged, accomplished, and high achieving young women in society face a loss of support and sympathy for their ambitions and where the social expectations are for disappointment and failure, not success. ~ Barbara Dafoe Whitehead
Young Womens quotes by Barbara Dafoe Whitehead
I'm a Buddhist and active in my Buddhist's Association, and I'm actually a National Young Women's representative for the organization, so I travel a lot helping young women who are practicing Buddhism. ~ Vinessa Shaw
Young Womens quotes by Vinessa Shaw
Never take your eye off the ball. Always remember that you and everyone on the team is the servant of the cause - in our case, girls' education and young women's leadership in Africa. ~ Ann Cotton
Young Womens quotes by Ann Cotton
Young women are not putting themselves in danger. The people around them are doing the real damage. Who? you might wonder. The abstinence teacher who tells her students that they'll go to jail if they have premarital sex. The well-founded organization that tells girls on college campuses that they should be looking for a husband, not taking women's studies classes. The judge who rules against a rape survivor because she didn't meet whatever standard for a victim he had in mind. The legislator who pushes a bill to limit young women's access to abortion because he doesn't think they're smart enough to make their own decisions. These are the people who are making the world a worse place, and a more dangerous one, at that, for girls and young women. We're just doing our best to live in it. ~ Jessica Valenti
Young Womens quotes by Jessica Valenti
Overall, I have formed three major organizations: the National Association of Business Women, the Young Women's Leaders Network, and the Joyce Banda Foundation. Under the foundation, we have a huge program that targets women to teach them about HIV and other diseases and to give them economic empowerment. ~ Joyce Banda
Young Womens quotes by Joyce Banda
Motherhood has brought me many joys and insights, but the new perspective it granted me on the role I had inadvertently played in young women's lives for the 2 decades I spent in the modeling industry was downright sobering. ~ Carre Otis
Young Womens quotes by Carre Otis
Young womens no good these days, he say. Got they legs open to every Tom, Dick and Harry. ~ Alice Walker
Young Womens quotes by Alice Walker
When I was coming up in the '80s television, if you were on television that meant either you were a young actor just coming up like I was, or you were an older actor whose career was over and you had to go on television. ~ Billy Bob Thornton
Young Womens quotes by Billy Bob Thornton
Is what I am not saying, young LaMont Chu, is why you cease to seem to give total effort of self since you begin with the clipping pictures of great professional figures for your adhesive tape and walls. No? Because, privileged gentlemen and boys I am saying, is always something that is too. Cold. Hot. Wet and dry. Very bright sun and you see the purple dots. Very bright hot and you have no salt. Outside is wind, the insects which like the sweat. Inside is smell of heaters, echo, being jammed in together, tarp is overclose to baseline, not enough of room, bells inside clubs which ring the hour loudly to distract, clunk of machines vomiting sweet cola for coins. Inside roof too low for the lob. Bad lighting, so. Or outside: the bad surface. Oh no look no: crabgrass in cracks along baseline. Who could give the total, with crabgrass. Look here is low net high net. Opponent's relatives heckle, opponent cheats, linesman in semifinal is impaired or cheats. You hurt. You have the injury. Bad knee and back. Hurt groin area from not stretching as asked. Aches of elbow. Eyelash in eye. The throat is sore. A too pretty girl in audience, watching. Who could play like this? Big crowd overwhelming or too small to inspire. Always something.' [p.458] ~ David Foster Wallace
Young Womens quotes by David Foster Wallace
Gruff and Tackleton was also there, doing the agreeable; with the evident sensation of being as perfectly at home, and as unquestionably in his own element, as a fresh young salmon on the top of the Great Pyramid. ~ Charles Dickens
Young Womens quotes by Charles Dickens
I was raised in Harlem. I never found a book that took place in Harlem. I never had a church like mine in a book. I never had people like the people I knew. People who could not find their lives in books and celebrated felt bad about themselves. I needed to write to include the lives of these young people. ~ Walter Dean Myers
Young Womens quotes by Walter Dean Myers
The Tories and the Lib Dems talk about social mobility, but, short of winning the lottery, the only way to guarantee young people from all backgrounds the opportunity to do better and to raise aspirations is through education. ~ Lucy Powell
Young Womens quotes by Lucy Powell
Denny gave me a strange look when I showed up in the band room, but I have always believed playing drums is no excuse not to look cute. Besides, if McDaniel shows up, I want to look my best. Oh, crap, I should be paying attention.
"Did you hear anything I said?"
I answer honestly, "No."
Denny runs a hand through his spiked hair and asks, "Do you really want to learn how to march?"
"I have to learn to march if I want to be a part of the section, right?"
"Right."
"Then, it doesn't really matter if I want to do anything. It's something I have to do."
Denny looks confused and partially like he's completely regretting the decision to add me to his section, but proceeds to teach me drill for the better part of two hours. While we run through the steps, I look longingly over at my quints, which I have secretly decided to name Quincy. ~ Courtney Brandt
Young Womens quotes by Courtney Brandt
The things young women read nowadays and profess to enjoy positively frighten me. ~ Agatha Christie
Young Womens quotes by Agatha Christie
As a wheelchair user, I am utterly obsessed with toilets, and all my friends know it. A simple invitation to the pub is consistently followed by, 'Do you know if they have an accessible toilet?' ~ Stella Young
Young Womens quotes by Stella Young
I wasn't a rock 'n' roll girl. I said, Neil Young, Neil Young, where do I know that name from? ~ Carrie Snodgress
Young Womens quotes by Carrie Snodgress
I think the relationship between mother and daughter is so interesting, even in a semi-normal family. Emily Thorne/Amanda Clarke's family relationship is going to be so interesting to explore. It is going to give me so many places to go. Obviously, it has been said that she is not the most stable of characters. What is interesting about that, when you think about mental health, is that young women will often come into those problems and difficulties in their 20's, so it is very possible that this will start to affect her psyche. ~ Emily VanCamp
Young Womens quotes by Emily VanCamp
Do you remember when you were young and gorgeous? Clark wanted to ask. Do you remember when everything seemed limitless? ~ Emily St. John Mandel
Young Womens quotes by Emily St. John Mandel
To be young and not to know how, is bearable; to be old and not have the strength, is too great a weight to carry. And what's is so painful you can't sense your powers leaving you. It's hard for an old man to ensure such blows! ~ Ivan Turgenev
Young Womens quotes by Ivan Turgenev
But I don't think building sand castles in the air is such a terrible thing to do, as long as you don't take ti too seriously. ~ Anne Frank
Young Womens quotes by Anne Frank
Be wise with speed; a fool at forty is a fool indeed. ~ Edward Young
Young Womens quotes by Edward Young
Thwarted, or starved, in the important objects proper to young capacities, the boys and young men naturally find or invent deviant objects for themselves ... Their choices and inventions are rarely charming, usually stupid, and often disastrous; we cannot expect average kids to deviate with genius. But on the other hand, the young men who conform to the dominant society become for the most part apathetic, disappointed, cynical and wasted. ~ Paul Goodman
Young Womens quotes by Paul Goodman
Unlike other countries, the United States is more an idea than a place, ethnicity, or race. Unfortunately, most American young people today cannot answer, "What is America for? What is it about? Why was it founded? Why is it different?" They can't answer these questions because they haven't been taught an answer. ~ Dennis Prager
Young Womens quotes by Dennis Prager
Night, sable goddess! from her ebon throne, In rayless majesty, now stretches forth Her leaden sceptre o'er a slumbering world. ~ Edward Young
Young Womens quotes by Edward Young
For a flicker of a moment our gazes held, sweet and tormented. ~ Julia Day
Young Womens quotes by Julia Day
It seemed that young people, despite their fundamental decency, now had to buy into a mind-set which made viciousness and treachery come easy. ~ Irvine Welsh
Young Womens quotes by Irvine Welsh
If we could switch off the aging gene we would. There's no technology that we've had that we haven't used. We are in the capital of staying young forever. ~ Andrew Niccol
Young Womens quotes by Andrew Niccol
My mom died of cancer when I was really young. I'm not someone who tries to work out their own stuff with a role, but I think that happened despite my best efforts to keep myself separate from it. ~ Sarah Polley
Young Womens quotes by Sarah Polley
In the past men were handsome and great (now they are children and dwarfs), but this is merely one of the many facts that demonstrate the disaster of an aging world. The young no longer want to study anything, learning is in decline, the whole world walks on its head, blind men lead others equally blind and cause them to plunge into the abyss, birds leave the nest before they can fly, the jackass plays the lyre, oxen dance. Mary no longer loves the contemplative life and Martha no longer loves the active life, Leah is sterile, Rachel has a carnal eye, Cato visits brothels, Lucretius becomes a woman. Everything is on the wrong path. In those days, thank God, I acquired from my master the desire to learn and a sense of the straight way, which remains even when the path is tortuous. ~ Umberto Eco
Young Womens quotes by Umberto Eco
Many things have changed in our culture here in England as a direct result of the Pistols: the whole street-fashion thing in London, for example, or the coverage of popular culture in the national press, or the fact that the film industry is now about young people making films about young British issues. ~ Julien Temple
Young Womens quotes by Julien Temple
I have so many dreams of my own, and I remember things from my childhood, from when I was a girl and a young woman, and I haven't forgotten a thing. So why did we think of Mom as a mom from the very beginning? She didn't have the opportunity to pursue her dreams, and all by herself, faced everything the era dealt her, poverty and sadness, and she couldn't do anything about her very bad lot in life other than suffer through it and get beyond it and live her life to the very best of her ability, giving her body and her heart to it completely. Why did I never give a thought to Mom's dreams? ~ Shin Kyung-sook
Young Womens quotes by Shin Kyung-sook
Archer was too intelligent to think that a young woman like Ellen Olenska would necessarily recoil from everything that reminded her of her past. She might believe herself wholly in revolt against it; but what had charmed her in it would still charm her even though it were against her will. ~ Edith Wharton
Young Womens quotes by Edith Wharton
I kissed Ryan, and it charged him up like a freaking Duracell. ~ Kelly Oram
Young Womens quotes by Kelly Oram
The same day the young man set forward on his journey, furnished with the three paternal gifts, which consisted, as we have said, of fifteen crowns, the horse, and the letter for M. de Treville - the counsels being thrown into the bargain. ~ Alexandre Dumas
Young Womens quotes by Alexandre Dumas
In seminary he had been taught that God had completely stopped any overt communication with moderns, preferring to have them only listen to and follow sacred Scripture, properly interpreted, of course. God's voice had been reduced to paper, and even that paper had to be moderated and deciphered by the proper authorities and intellects. It seemed that direct communication with God was something exclusively for the ancients and uncivilized, while educated Westerner's access to God was mediated and controlled by the intelligentsia. Nobody wanted God in a box, just in a book. ~ Wm. Paul Young
Young Womens quotes by Wm. Paul Young
You are the author of your life. So please don't let anyone including yourself make you think otherwise. If you feel like you don't like how your story goes, just write it differently. You have the tools, the courage, the power…you have it all! ~ Iva Kenaz
Young Womens quotes by Iva Kenaz
Yet, when the boy himself assumes married life, he will honor his mother above his wife, and show her often a real affection and deference. Then it is that the woman comes into her own, ruling indoors with an iron hand, stoutly maintaining the ancient tradition, and, forgetful of her former misery, visiting upon the slender shoulders of her little daughters-in-law all the burdens and the wrath that fell upon her own young back. But one higher step is perhaps reserved for her. With each grandson laid in her arms she is again exalted. The family line is secure. Her husband's soul is protected. Proud is she among women. Blessed be the gods! ~ Katherine Mayo
Young Womens quotes by Katherine Mayo
So as near as I could tell the end of the world began roughly about the time that Billy Carver's butt rang about halfway through the War of 1812. ~ Steve Vernon
Young Womens quotes by Steve Vernon
I like my whisky old and my women young. ~ Errol Flynn
Young Womens quotes by Errol Flynn
When I was young, I overheard a Brit say Canada wasn't a real country because it doesn't have any poets. Even then, I kind of knew that was wrong, but I still thought, 'Wow, here's my chance to do something, to be of service to my country.' ~ David McFadden
Young Womens quotes by David McFadden
Care enough to take deliberate steps and get ready through thoughtful discipline, research, organization, and effort. It will impress others and give you the winner's edge to live and give your best. ~ Susan C. Young
Young Womens quotes by Susan C. Young
I conclude, at the beginning of the day, it is all about the choices I make. It is about what I am willing to sacrifice - one thing I do know, I am not willing, and I do not want to sacrifice my life for anyone, not even for you."
~Love is respect ♥~ ~ Charlena E. Jackson
Young Womens quotes by Charlena E. Jackson
The first virtue of a young man today - that is, for the next fifty years perhaps, as long as we live in fear, and religion has regained its powers - is to be incapable of enthusiasm and not to have much in the way of brains. ~ Stendhal
Young Womens quotes by Stendhal
Well-meaning, decent people will condemn the behavior of a Ted Bundy, while they're walking past a magazine rack full of the very kinds of things that send young kids down the road to be Ted Bundys. ~ Ted Bundy
Young Womens quotes by Ted Bundy
Injustice alway captures the attention of the young," she said. "But as we get older we discover how difficult it is to change the world, and we learn to turn our eyes away from what we can't fix until we no longer see injustice at all. ~ Trudi Canavan
Young Womens quotes by Trudi Canavan
I never knew. Didn't know everythin could be fine one moment an then the next moment so bad that it 'ud be like the time before that moment was all a dream. ~ Moira Young
Young Womens quotes by Moira Young
How was your journey?" he asked.
"You don't have to make small talk with me," she said. "I don't like it, and I'm not very good at it."
They paused at the shade of portico, beside a sweet-scented bower of roses. Casually Lord St. Vincent leaned a shoulder against a cream-painted column. A lazy smile curved his lips as he looked down at her. "Didn't Lady Berwick teach you?"
"She tried. But I hate trying to make conversation about weather. Who cares what the temperature is? I want to talk about things like... like..."
"Yes?" he prompted as she hesitated.
"Darwin. Women's suffrage. Workhouses, war, why we're alive, if you believe in séances or spirits, if music has ever made you cry, or what vegetable you hate most..." Pandora shrugged and glanced up at him, expecting the familiar frozen expression of a man who was about to run for his life. Instead she found herself caught by his arrested stare, while the silence seemed to wrap around them.
After a moment, Lord St. Vincent said softly, "Carrots."
Bemused, Pandora tried to gather her wits. "That's the vegetable you hate most? Do you mean cooked ones?"
"Any kind of carrots."
"Out of all vegetables?" At his nod, she persisted, "What about carrot cake?"
"No."
But it's cake."
A smile flickered across his lips. "Still carrots."
Pandora wanted to argue the superiority of carrots over some truly atrocious vegetable, such as Brussels sprouts, but heir conversation was inte ~ Lisa Kleypas
Young Womens quotes by Lisa Kleypas
The Republicans believe that the wagon train will not make it to the frontier unless some of the old, some of the young, some of the weak are left behind. ~ Mario Cuomo
Young Womens quotes by Mario Cuomo
here I am, after having been a warrior and a prince, cook, steward and everything else, boiling kettle for de young gentlemen. ~ Frederick Marryat
Young Womens quotes by Frederick Marryat
What day is it today?" I wait. "The day the Lawson boys found out who I really am. ~ Sarah Clay
Young Womens quotes by Sarah Clay
Let's make sure that we don't close down 37 of the 42 clinics in Texas and leave women with nowhere to go and put them in a situation where their health will be at risk, because what we do know is that closing down the ability to access that service unfortunately does not take the need away or women's confronting that issue away. ~ Wendy Davis
