Confronted with the problems that characterize our herding culture, we are perhaps like the metaphorical man wounded by an arrow that the Buddha discussed with his students. He said that the man would be foolish if he tried to discover who shot the arrow, why he shot it, where he was when he shot it, and so forth, before having the arrow removed and the wound treated, lest he bleed to death attempting to get his questions answered. We, likewise, can all remove the arrow and treat the wound of eating animal foods right now. We don't need to know the whole history. We can easily see it is cruel and that it is unnecessary; whatever people have done in the past, we are not obligated to imitate them if it is based on delusion. Perhaps in the past people thought they needed to enslave animals and people to survive, and that the cruelty involved in it was somehow allowed them. It's obviously not necessary for us today, as we can plainly see by walking into any grocery store, and the sooner we can awaken from the thrall of the obsolete mythos that we are predatory by nature, the sooner we'll be able to evolve spiritually and discover and fulfill our purpose on this earth. ~ Will Tuttle

Lord, we lift up your name. With hearts full of praise; Be exalted, O Lord my God! Hosanna in the highest! ~ Carl Tuttle
Yearsley Tuttle quotes by Carl Tuttle
I'm an artist. There are a lot of people in the business who aren't. It's like they've got a shoe repair shop. ~ Lyle Tuttle
Yearsley Tuttle quotes by Lyle Tuttle
Jay Wexler is my kind of writer
a weird one, and a wry one, and one who isnt afraid to act silly in a sort of bait-and-switch that, to the readers surprise, moves him as much as it makes him laugh. Like all the best comedians, Wexler is clearly nursing a heart that the world broke a long time ago. Ed Tuttle is a book that cant decide what it wants to be when it grows up, but as with most cases of arrested development, theres something very serious going on behind all the antics. Plus, there are pictures. ~ Ron Currie Jr.
Yearsley Tuttle quotes by Ron Currie Jr.
My own novel, 'The Silver Bough,' about the inhabitants of a remote town at risk of being overwhelmed by Scotland's mythological past, was once criticised by a disgruntled fan as 'fantasy for people who don't read fantasy.' ~ Lisa Tuttle
Yearsley Tuttle quotes by Lisa Tuttle
I dub thee Toadsticker," I said. "Slayer of miscreants, opener of packages, occasional carver of baked turkeys. Let all men hear, and know mild caution." I swear the steel flickered. ~ Frank Tuttle
Yearsley Tuttle quotes by Frank Tuttle
The king sent word, at odd intervals, inquiring as to Meralda's progress. She would scrawl hasty replies in return, often suppressing the impulse to add notes such as "Abandoning spellwork to continue this fascinating correspondence," or "Slept late, long breakfast, taking the day off for a stroll in the park. ~ Frank Tuttle
Yearsley Tuttle quotes by Frank Tuttle
The suffering that food animals undergo, the suffering of those who eat them and profit by them, the suffering of starving people who could be fed with the grain that feeds these animals, and the suffering we thoughtlessly impose on the ecosystem, other creatures, and future generations are all interconnected. It is this interconnectedness of suffering, and its reverse, of love, caring, and awareness, that calls out for our understanding. ~ Will Tuttle
Yearsley Tuttle quotes by Will Tuttle
In the old days, people told their kids stories about the big, bad wolf, and men who were especially cruel and horrible were said to be like animals, maybe werewolves. But the things ordinary men do every day are a million times worse than anything a wolf would do. A wolf would never torture another animal to death, or lock it up. They kill out of instinct, in order to survive, because they have to - not because they just feel like it, not because they're evil. Not like us. Man is the scariest animal on the planet, but from the beginning of time, the wolf has gotten the bad rap. We've tried to pretend that evil is out there, lurking inside animals beyond the campfire, and not where it really is, in here.' He [Cody] tapped his chest. ~ Lisa Tuttle
Yearsley Tuttle quotes by Lisa Tuttle
Once a vegan, we are always so, because our motivation is not personal and self-oriented, but is based on concern for others and on our undeniable interconnectedness with other living beings. ~ Will Tuttle
Yearsley Tuttle quotes by Will Tuttle
The Left has failed to understand the extent to which its intolerant, often coercive, approach to issues that permit good-willed disagreement has turned off voters who might otherwise be sympathetic to their general program. ~ Ian Tuttle
Yearsley Tuttle quotes by Ian Tuttle
In the jumbled, fragmented memories I carry from my childhood there are probably nearly as many dreams as images from waking life. I thought of one which might have been my earliest remembered nightmare. I was probably about four years old - I don't think I'd started school yet - when I woke up screaming. The image I retained of the dream, the thing which had frightened me so, was an ugly, clown-like doll made of soft red and cream-coloured rubber. When you squeezed it, bulbous eyes popped out on stalks and the mouth opened in a gaping scream. As I recall it now, it was disturbingly ugly, not really an appropriate toy for a very young child, but it had been mine when I was younger, at least until I'd bitten its nose off, at which point it had been taken away from me. At the time when I had the dream I hadn't seen it for a year or more - I don't think I consciously remembered it until its sudden looming appearance in a dream had frightened me awake.

When I told my mother about the dream, she was puzzled.

'But what's scary about that? You were never scared of that doll.'

I shook my head, meaning that the doll I'd owned - and barely remembered - had never scared me. 'But it was very scary,' I said, meaning that the reappearance of it in my dream had been terrifying.

My mother looked at me, baffled. 'But it's not scary,' she said gently. I'm sure she was trying to make me feel better, and thought this reasonable statement would help. ~ Lisa Tuttle
Yearsley Tuttle quotes by Lisa Tuttle
If I am not the legal resident of the apartment you cannot evict me. You cannot evict Mrs. Tuttle, who is the legal resident of the apartment, because she is not living here. Unless you accept my check you are not going to receive any rent for the apartment at all because you cannot rent it to anyone else while I am living here because you cannot evict me so they could move in. Mrs. Tuttle will not pay the rent because she is not living here. Sincerely, Marian Griswold ~ Shirley Jackson
Yearsley Tuttle quotes by Shirley Jackson
What we have done in the past is not sufficient now to prepare our youth. ~ A. Theodore Tuttle
Yearsley Tuttle quotes by A. Theodore Tuttle
To see Kyle, to wave to him, like getting off at the 79th street station, near where Kyle lives, instead of going all the way to the Lincoln Center station near school, so I can grab coffee and watch him walk by before I, too, walk on to Tuttle, about fifty feet behind him. ~ Alex Flinn
Yearsley Tuttle quotes by Alex Flinn
Worship is of fundamental significance to the life of the individual and to the corporate life of the church, yet we rarely hear it taught as a discipline or practice in the gathering of believers. ~ Carl Tuttle
Yearsley Tuttle quotes by Carl Tuttle
If you're going to be a visual artist, then there has to be something in the work that accounts for the possibility of the invisible, the opposite of the visual experience. That's why it's not like a table or a car or something. I think that that might even be hard for people because most of our visual experiences are of tables. It has no business being anything else but a table. But a painting or a sculpture really exists somewhere between itself, what it is, and what it is not-you know, the very thing. And how the artist engineers or manages that is the question. ~ Richard Tuttle
Yearsley Tuttle quotes by Richard Tuttle
For example, Adria came home from nursery school one day with a picture she was excited to show off. She immediately interrupted something important her mother was doing and wanted her mom to celebrate her picture with her. Another time, her mother might ~ Carol Tuttle
Yearsley Tuttle quotes by Carol Tuttle
Current fashion magazines have become a form of entertainment, and in some cases bizarre art, showing women in outfits that the everyday woman would never wear. The fashion system has not and will never even attempt to teach us the skills and tools to honor our true nature and our unique physical traits so we can express our true beauty. ~ Carol Tuttle
Yearsley Tuttle quotes by Carol Tuttle
Meralda shook her head. "Pay him no attention, gentlemen," she said. "Logic fails. Reason surrenders. Silence is your only defense."

"Silence, and a whooping big crossbow," muttered Mug. Kervis grinned, and Mug winked. "That's a lad," he whispered. "There's hope for you yet. ~ Frank Tuttle
Yearsley Tuttle quotes by Frank Tuttle
Compassion is ethical intelligence: it is the capacity to make connections and the consequent urge to act to relieve the suffering of others. ~ Will Tuttle
Yearsley Tuttle quotes by Will Tuttle
There is something about veganism that is not easy, but the difficulty is not inherent in veganism, but in our culture. ~ Will Tuttle
Yearsley Tuttle quotes by Will Tuttle
Fatherhood is a relationship of love and understanding It is power and action. It is counsel and instruction. ~ A. Theodore Tuttle
Yearsley Tuttle quotes by A. Theodore Tuttle
I am, perhaps, too intellectual, too modern, for my own comfort! How lovely it would be to sink into the warm comfort of established religion. ~ Lisa Tuttle
Yearsley Tuttle quotes by Lisa Tuttle
When you truly stop seeing your children's tendencies through eyes of judgment, they will feel the change and respond in positive ways you cannot yet anticipate. ~ Carol Tuttle
Yearsley Tuttle quotes by Carol Tuttle
Baptism by immersion for the remission of sins is an essential covenant to make with the Lord. Faith and repentance precede this ordinance. Confirmation and the gift of the Holy Ghost follow baptism. Acceptance of these first principles and ordinances may obtain for us a remission of our sins and assure our salvation. In the ordinance of the sacrament, we regularly renew this and other covenants, and by complying with our part of the covenant, we receive the Spirit of the Lord to be with us. ~ A. Theodore Tuttle
Yearsley Tuttle quotes by A. Theodore Tuttle
President J. Reuben Clark, Jr., a modern prophet, said over and over again that the Lord would never let one of his Saints who had been faithful in the payment of tithes and offerings go without the necessities of life" (Marion G. Romney, "The Blessings of an Honest Tithe," New Era, Jan.-Feb. 1982, 45). Members who faithfully pay tithing are promised spiritual blessings as well. "I think it is not well known in the Church that payment of tithing has very little to do with money. Tithing has to do with faith ~ A. Theodore Tuttle
Yearsley Tuttle quotes by A. Theodore Tuttle
Until we are willing and able to make the connections between what we are eating and what was required to get it on our plate, and how it affects us to buy, serve, and eat it, we will be unable to make the connections that will allow us to live wisely and harmoniously on this earth. When we cannot make connections, we cannot understand, and we are less free, less intelligent, less loving, and less happy. ~ Will Tuttle
Yearsley Tuttle quotes by Will Tuttle
If you would be a better teacher, teach by the spirit. That is the thing that gives strength and power, meaning and life, to our otherwise weak efforts ... remember, you cannot give away that which you do not possess. Study the life of the master. You do not have to have a college degree to be an efficient teacher. But you do have to become acquainted with the life and teachings of the master to be an effective teacher in the church. ~ A. Theodore Tuttle
Yearsley Tuttle quotes by A. Theodore Tuttle

Yearsley Tuttle quotes by Carol Tuttle
We fail to see the purifying and refining effect wrought by the flames of adversity. These flames are not meant to consume but only to purify us. Disguised as adversity, blessings are showered upon us. ~ A. Theodore Tuttle
