I want to be in a place where I have to have God in everything I do ... where God is indispensable to me. ~ Aiden Wilson Tozer
Where God Is quotes by Aiden Wilson Tozer
I believe in signs ... what we need to learn is always there before us, we just have to look around us with respect & attention to discover where God is leading us and which step we should take. When we are on the right path, we follow the signs, and if we occasionally stumble, the Divine comes to our aid, preventing us from making mistakes. ~ Paulo Coelho
Where God Is quotes by Paulo Coelho
The story of the Good Samaritan (Luke 1o) can he interpreted mystically in such a way that the question of the knowledge of God becomes its focus. The priest and the Levite, who walk past the man who fell among robbers and was seriously hurt, are pious God-fearing persons. They "know" God and the law of God. They have God the same way that the one who knows has that which is known. They know what God wants them to be and do. They also know where God is to he found, in the scriptures and the cult of the temple. For them, God is mediated through the existing institutions. They have their God - one who is not to he found on the road between Jerusalem and Jericho.

What is wrong with this knowledge of God? The problem is not the knowledge of the Torah or the knowledge of the temple. (It is absurd to read an anti-Judaistic meaning into a story of the Jew Jesus, since it could just as well have come from Hillel or another Jewish teacher.) What is false is a knowledge of God that does not allow for any unknowing or any negative theology. Because both actors know that God is "this," they do not see "that." Hence the Good Samaritan is the anti-fundamentalist story par excellence.

"And so I ask God to rid me of God," Meister Eckhart says. The God who is known and familiar is too small for him. ~ Dorothee Solle
Where God Is quotes by Dorothee Solle
With all this snow, with the sun not there, with the cold and dreariness, this place doesn't look like my America, doesn't even look real. It's like we are in a terrible story, like we're in the crazy parts of the Bible, there where God is busy punishing people for their sins and is making them miserable with all the weather. The sky, for example, has stayed white all this time I have been here, which tells you that something is not right. Even the stones know that a sky is supposed to be blue, like our sky back home, which is blue, so blue you can spray Clorox on it and wipe it with a paper towel and it wouldn't even come off. ~ NoViolet Bulawayo
Where God Is quotes by NoViolet Bulawayo
But at the same time, I don't know that we are doing folks any favors if we act like when we become Christians or when we follow Jesus, all we do is win. I think it's okay to say that we mess up, that we let people down, that we overpromise and underdeliver, that we go to therapy, that we take our meds, that we go for walks to remember everything good and true, that we're still in the midst of figuring out where God is in the middle of all this, that we're learning our capacity and God's goodness the real way: by living our lives and experiencing both victories and sorrows in the midst. ~ Sarah Bessey
Where God Is quotes by Sarah Bessey
The weird thing about the bible is that almost everything in it is a metaphor.

So it seems to me that when the bible describes church as a place where two or more people discuss God, they don't mean just the cathedral like churches. I don't know what, who or where God is; but if everything is a metaphor, I think he or she is a comparison to us. I think we are like, or as God. I think when we get together, and talk about ourselves, about being human, about what hurts us; we are also talking about God.

So that's also church, right?

I know this might seem blasphemous, but my priest tells me its okay to ask questions, even if they seem bizarre. ~ Elizabeth Acevedo
Where God Is quotes by Elizabeth Acevedo
You can follow the religions where God is small,
or you can follow the religions where God is all. ~ Donald L. Hicks
Where God Is quotes by Donald L. Hicks
So much of the world's suffering results from the sinful action or inaction of ourselves and others. For example, people look at a famine and wonder where God is, but the world produces enough food for each person to have 3,000 calories a day. It's our own irresponsibility and self-centeredness that prevents people from getting fed. ~ Lee Strobel
Where God Is quotes by Lee Strobel
The family should be a closely knit group. The home should be a self-contained shelter of security; a kind of school where life's basic lessons are taught; and a kind of church where God is honored; a place where wholesome recreation and simple pleasures are enjoyed. ~ Billy Graham
Where God Is quotes by Billy Graham
Watch to see where God is working and join Him in His work. ~ Henry Blackaby
Where God Is quotes by Henry Blackaby
It's an exciting life. I don't know where God is leading us. I just know that He opens doors and He closes the doors, and it is always the best for us. ~ Barbara Mandrell
Where God Is quotes by Barbara Mandrell
There may be some issue where God is calling you to surrender. I don't know what you may be struggling with, but whatever it is, let me just encourage you: Don't delay obedience. ~ Nancy Leigh DeMoss
Where God Is quotes by Nancy Leigh DeMoss
Where God is, there is no other. Where world is, there is no God. These two will never unite. Like light and darkness. ~ Swami Vivekananda
Where God Is quotes by Swami Vivekananda
God can never be close. God can never be close because it would mean that there is some place where God is not. God is infinite. We cannot exist outside of the infinite. Therefore, God is our Reality. ~ Mooji
Where God Is quotes by Mooji
Citizens are not governed for their good and for the true glory of the supreme King when the secular authorities do not rule according to the divine Law and are not set to observe it themselves. For where God is not recognized and obedience to Him is not required before all things, there peace is not peace, justice is not justice, and that which should be profitable brings injury instead. ~ Martin Bucer
Where God Is quotes by Martin Bucer
Losing your faith in a world where God is all around you is a precarious business. When God shows his face on a daily basis to your friends and neighbors, it is, on some level, impossible to stop believing in Him. Instead i felt that God chose to exclude me from His world. Since i was the only one to lose faith, to stop hearing Christ's voice, i thought perhaps it was my fault that Roy had left us. I thought i was being punished for some unknown sin. I had learned early in my Catholic career that one could sin silently in one's heart. One could even sin without ever discovering what one had done or why it was wrong. What had i done, i asked myself, to make God disappear and take Roy with Him. ~ Alison Smith
Where God Is quotes by Alison Smith
As everyone knows, Islam set up a social order from the outset, in contrast, for example, to Christianity. Islamic social teachings are so basic to the religion that still today many people, including Muslims, are completely unaware of Islam's spiritual dimensions. Social order demands rules and regulations, fear of the king, respect for the police, acknowledgement of authority. It has to be set up on the basis of God's majesty and severity. It pays primary attention to the external realm, the realm of the body and the desires of the lower soul, the realm where God is distant from the world. In contrast, Islamic spiritual teachings allow for intimacy, love, boldness, ecstatic expressions, and intoxication in the Beloved. All these are qualities that pertain to nearness to God. (...) In short, on the social level, Islam affirms the primacy of God as King, Majestic, Lord, Ruler. It establishes a theological patriarchy even if Muslim theologians refuse to apply the word father (or mother) to God. God is yang, while the world, human beings, and society are yin. Thereby order is established and maintained. Awe and distance are the ruling qualities. On the spiritual level, the picture is different. In this domain many Muslim authorities affirm the primacy of God as Merciful, Beautiful, Gentle, Loving. Here they establish a spiritual matriarchy, though again such terms are not employed. God is yin and human beings are yang. Human spiritual aspiration is accepted and welcomed by God. ~ Sachiko Murata
Where God Is quotes by Sachiko Murata
As a Christian, you ought to be less concerned about where God is bringing you out from, rather, focus on where He's taking you to. ~ Chris Oyakhilome
Where God Is quotes by Chris Oyakhilome
If you feel a great loneliness and a deep longing for human contact, you have to be extremely discerning ... and ask yourself whether this situation is truly God given. Because where God wants you to be, God holds you safe and gives you peace, even when there is pain. To live a disciplined life is to live in such a way that you want only to be where God is with you. The more deeply you live your spiritual life, the easier it will be to discern the difference between living with God and living without God, and the easier it will be to move away from the places where God is no longer with you. ~ Henri Nouwen
Where God Is quotes by Henri Nouwen
We all long for heaven where God is, but we have it our power to be in heaven with him right now-to be happy with him at this very moment. But this means being: Loving as he loves, helping as he helps, giving as he gives, serving as he serves, rescuing as he rescues, being with him all 24 hours of the day, touching him in his distressing disguise. ~ Mother Teresa
Where God Is quotes by Mother Teresa
Where true inner freedom is, there is God. And where God is, there we want to be. ~ Henri Nouwen
Where God Is quotes by Henri Nouwen
Sathya, Dharma, Shanghai and prema are the hall-marks of a purified heart, a heart where God is enshrined and is manifest. ~ Sathya Sai Baba
Where God Is quotes by Sathya Sai Baba
So herein lies the choice for those of us who are Christians. We can either stay within the Christianity we have mastered with the Jesus we have domesticated, or we can leave Christianity as a destination, embrace Christianity as a way of life, and then journey to reality, where God is present and living in every person, every human community, and all creation. ~ Samir Selmanovic
Where God Is quotes by Samir Selmanovic
There is no place where God is not, wherever I go, there God is. Now and always he upholds me with his power and keeps me safe in his love. - Anonymous ~ Richard J. Foster
Where God Is quotes by Richard J. Foster
Most people think that there is a monarchy, where God is the king and we are the subjects, and the subjects are inferior to this invisible king. But not only are we inferior, we are also stained by sin, and therefore, untrustworthy. ~ Wayne Dyer
Where God Is quotes by Wayne Dyer
You may be transferred, enlisted, commissioned, reassigned, or hospitalized - but brand this on your heart - you can never go where God is not. ~ Max Lucado
Where God Is quotes by Max Lucado
We are in danger of being stern where God is tender, and of being tender where God is stern. ~ Oswald Chambers
Where God Is quotes by Oswald Chambers
It is not enough for us to be where God is worshipped, if we do not ourselves worship him. ~ Matthew Henry
Where God Is quotes by Matthew Henry
Finally, by the sea, where God is everywhere, I gradually calmed. ~ Patti Smith
Where God Is quotes by Patti Smith
It's so important to have your own relationship with the Lord. That is the number one thing I would say. Be sure that you are getting to a place where God is your best friend. He wants that relationship with you. He wants you to be in love with Him like that. It takes time. It takes discipline to spend time in His word and spend time listening to stuff that's going to pour life into you and not just thinking about your appearance or things that a lot of music tries to tell you to do. Be careful of that. Be careful of what you're filling your spirit with. ~ Kari Jobe
Where God Is quotes by Kari Jobe
Only by being both deity and humanity could Jesus Christ bridge the gap between where God is. ~ David Jeremiah
Where God Is quotes by David Jeremiah
Where God is, all agree. ~ Bill Vaughan
Where God Is quotes by Bill Vaughan
Intellectually I touched God many times as truth and emotionally I touched God as love. I touched God as goodness. I touched God as kindness. It came to me that God is a creative force, a motivating power, an over-all intelligence, an ever-present, all pervading spirit - which binds everything in the universe together and gives life to everything. That brought God close. I could not be where God is not. You are within God. God is within you. ~ Peace Pilgrim
Where God Is quotes by Peace Pilgrim
God is everywhere, and you are somewhere. Therefore, by definition, you must be where God is. ~ Susan Shumsky
Where God Is quotes by Susan Shumsky
...the Word was with God, and the Word was God. That's where God is from, and knowing that changes everything. And, where am I from? I am from God. ...not easy to believe. ~ Ken Untener
Where God Is quotes by Ken Untener
There is a need to go deeper, to let myself go completely, to enter into the surroundings in the real fellowship of oneness, to lift above the outer shell, out into the depth and wideness where God is the recognized centre and everything is in time with everything, and the key-note is God. ~ Emily Carr
Where God Is quotes by Emily Carr
Don't let not knowing how it'll end keep you from beginning. Uncertainty chases us out into the open where God is waiting. ~ Bob Goff
Where God Is quotes by Bob Goff
The holy is that segment of time and space God has reserved for His presence. ... The holy is that point of time and space in which the presence of God is encountered by tzimtzum – self-renunciation – on the part of mankind. Just as God makes space for man by an act of self-limitation, so man makes space for God by an act of self-limitation. The holy is where God is experienced as absolute presence. Not accidentally but essentially, this can only take place through the total renunciation of human will and initiative. To the contrary: God has empowered mankind to use them to become His "partners in the work of creation".
However, to be true to God's purposes, there must be times and places at which humanity experiences the reality of the divine. Those times and places require absolute obedience. ~ Jonathan Sacks
Where God Is quotes by Jonathan Sacks
With what work at you occupied,
and for what purpose are you purchased?
What sort of bird are you,
and with what digestive are you eaten?
Pass up this shop of hagglers
and seek the shop of Abundance where God is the purchaser [Quran 9:111].
There Compassion has bought
the shabby goods no one else would look at.
With that Purchaser no base coin is rejected,
for making a profit is not the point.

Masnavi 6.1264 – 1267 ~ Rumi
Where God Is quotes by Rumi
Hinduism is not just a faith. It is the union of reason and intuition that can not be defined but is only to be experienced. Evil and error are not ultimate. There is no Hell, for that means there is a place where God is not, and there are sins which exceed his love. ~ Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan
Where God Is quotes by Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan
The difference between the truth of God and revelation is very simple. Truth is where God's been. Revelation is where God is. Truth is God's tracks. It's His trail, His path, but it leads to what? It leads to Him. Perhaps the masses of people are happy to know where God's been, but true God chasers are not content just to study God's trail, His truths; they want to know Him. They want to know where He is and what He's doing right now. ~ Tommy Tenney
Where God Is quotes by Tommy Tenney
No more quickly can a person rob you of your joy and peace than when that individual succeeds at making you feel like you're less than worthy of God as compared to his/her own self. The old adage "You're on your way to hell, and I'm on my way to heaven" spoken or implied to another, is the most predominantly effective way to make someone feel better about himself; and he doesn't even have to prove he's better in this life on earth because now he can just say "Wait 'til I'm looking down at you while you're in hell!" But don't be robbed of your joy and peace, individuals or groups of people like that don't know where God is; He is a whisper-distance away from you, is all. ~ C. JoyBell C.
Where God Is quotes by C. JoyBell C.
We have no idea how busy God's hands are even when His mouth seems closed. Where God is concerned, silence never equals slumber. ~ Beth Moore
Where God Is quotes by Beth Moore
What I know is that God is always working around us. He doesn't just work within the walls of a denomination. Sometimes, I think we feel if we can get unbelievers through the church doors, the church will do the rest and our obligation is met. It's obvious Lilly has great resistance to anything structured. We need to watch for where God is working around her. Show her grace. Be there as much as she allows. - Dana ~ Jordyn Redwood
Where God Is quotes by Jordyn Redwood
It is He who manifests as both matter and consciousness. There is no place where God is not. In every atom, in every living being He alone is present. ~ Rama Swami
Where God Is quotes by Rama Swami
There is no point of space, whether inside or outside the bounds of creation, where God is not present. That is why when we ask the question, "Who's in control?" we can answer without equivocation, "God is! ~ Billy Graham
Where God Is quotes by Billy Graham
Where is the church when it hurts? If the church is doing its job - binding wounds, comforting the grieving, offering food to the hungry - I don't think people will wonder so much where God is when it hurts. They'll know where God is: in the presence of God's people on earth. ~ Philip Yancey
Where God Is quotes by Philip Yancey
Mark it down. You will never go where God is not. ~ Max Lucado
Where God Is quotes by Max Lucado
If it is I who determine where God is to be found, then I shall always find a God who corresponds to me in some way, who is obliging, who is connected with my own nature. But if God determines where he is to be found, then it will be in a place which is not immediately pleasing to my nature and which is not at all congenial to me. This place is the Cross of Christ. ~ Dietrich Bonhoeffer
Where God Is quotes by Dietrich Bonhoeffer
We may search long to find where God is, but we shall find Him in those who keep the words of Christ. For the Lord Christ saith, If any man love me, he will keep my words; and we will make our abode with him. ~ Martin Luther
Where God Is quotes by Martin Luther
We don't know Where God is, Who God is or What God is ... BUT GOD IS! -RVM ~ R.v.m.
Where God Is quotes by R.v.m.
You've seen what," Emilio conceded, "but not why! That's where God is, Anne. In the why of it - in the meaning. ~ Mary Doria Russell
Where God Is quotes by Mary Doria Russell
Your destiny is too great to reach on your own. God has already arranged supporters to speak faith into you. He has placed others in your path to inspire you, to challenge you, to help you grow and accomplish your dreams. But some people never reach their highest potential because they never get away from the wrong people.
Not everyone can go where God is taking you. Connect with those who understand your destiny, friends who appreciate your uniqueness, encouragers who can call forth your seeds of greatness. You do not need those who push you down, tell you what you can't become, and never give their approval even when you do well. ~ Joel Osteen
Where God Is quotes by Joel Osteen
I believe that the wilderness is where God is found. ~ Jonathan Kozol
Where God Is quotes by Jonathan Kozol
Whatever you are doing, that which makes you feel the most alive ... that is where God is. ~ Ignatius Of Loyola
Where God Is quotes by Ignatius Of Loyola
The Why's of suffering keep us shrouded in a seemingly bottomless void of abstraction where God is reduced to a finite ethical agent, a limited psychological personality, whose purposes measure on the same scale as ours. ~ Tullian Tchividjian
Where God Is quotes by Tullian Tchividjian
A country where God is not honored cannot be truly successful ~ Sunday Adelaja
Where God Is quotes by Sunday Adelaja
At the point that I have rigorously pressed out and reached the end of myself, I have in fact not even broached the place where God is about to begin. Therefore, a conclusion in my mind is barely a point of departure in God's. ~ Craig D. Lounsbrough
Where God Is quotes by Craig D. Lounsbrough
The most creative social strategy we have to offer is the church. Here we show the world a manner of life the world can never achieve through social coercion or governmental action. We serve the world by showing it something that it is not, namely, a place where God is forming a family out of strangers. ~ Stanley Hauerwas
Where God Is quotes by Stanley Hauerwas
God is where there are no 'fees' being charged, where there is no botheration and where there is no scolding; that is where God is. ~ Dada Bhagwan
Where God Is quotes by Dada Bhagwan
I am not particularly religious. But I think we do face the question of where God is, why we are created and where does life go, why we exist. That sort of thing. And it is very hard to talk about it these days, because it cannot be proven. It is hard to discuss it rationally. ~ Ang Lee
Where God Is quotes by Ang Lee
Eventually everyone vacates church where God is not obviously present and working. Getting people back to church is pointless unless God comes back first - that's what Vertical Church is all about! Ritual church, tradition church, felt-need church, emotional-hype church, rules church, Bible-boredom church, relevant church, and many other iterations are all horizontal substitutes for God come down, we all get rocked and radically altered, Vertical Church. ~ James MacDonald
Where God Is quotes by James MacDonald
God has given me the ability. The rest is up to me. Believe. Believe. Believe. ~ Billy Mills
Where God Is quotes by Billy Mills
For your penance," the Bishop said finally, "say three rosaries, one for each year of your sinful life, and offer them for the people you have harmed."

"That is not remotely enough," she snapped.

"Do you need also to confess doubts about the power of God to forgive sins?"

"Yes," she admitted after a few moments.

"In that case, for your penance, say only one rosary. ~ Rosamund Hodge
Where God Is quotes by Rosamund Hodge
Anybody who passes more than a day in eternity is as old as God could ever be. ~ John Berger
Where God Is quotes by John Berger
Gratitude isn't a tool to manipulate the universe or God. It's a way to acknowledge our faith that everything happens for a reason even if we don't know what that reason is. ~Melody Beattie, 52 Weeks of Conscious Contact, pg. 34. ~ Melody Beattie
Where God Is quotes by Melody Beattie
Jesus is the God whom we can approach without pride and before whom we can humble ourselves without despair. ~ Blaise Pascal
Where God Is quotes by Blaise Pascal
At the crest of the hill outside Agor, Henry pulled the car to the side of the road and we got out to take in the view. In the falling shadows, the little Arab village at the foot of the Jewish settlement looked nothing like so grim and barren as it had a few minutes before when we'd driven down its deserted main street. A desert sunset lent a little picturesqueness even to that cluster of faceless hovels. As for the larger landscape, you could see, particularly in this light, how someone might get the impression that it had been created in only seven days, unlike England, say, whose countryside appeared to be the creation of a God who'd had four or five chances to come back to perfect it and smooth it out, to tame and retame it until it was utterly habitable by every last man and beast. Judea was something that had been left just as it had been made; this could have passed for a piece of the moon to which the Jews had been sadistically exiled by their worst enemies rather than the place they passionately maintained was theirs and no one else's from time immemorial. What he finds in this landscape, I thought, is a correlative for the sense of himself he would now prefer to effect, the harsh and rugged pioneer with that pistol in his pocket. ~ Philip Roth
Where God Is quotes by Philip Roth
God saved us to make us holy, not happy. Some experiences may not contribute to our happiness, but all can be made to contribute to our holiness. Vance Havner
The destined end of man is not happiness, nor health, but holiness. God's one aim is the production of saints. ~ Oswald Chambers
Where God Is quotes by Oswald Chambers
With memories of gravestones, of combing fingers through tangled hair, I wonder too ... If the rent in the canvas of our life backdrop, the losses that puncture our world, and our own emptiness, might actually become places to see.
To see through to God.
That which tears open our souls, those holes which splatter sight, they actually become the thin, open places to see through the mess of this place to the heart aching beauty beyond. To him. To the god whom we endlessly crave.
But how? How do we choose to allow the holes to become seeing through to collect places? How do I give up resentment for gratitude, anger for spilling joy, so focus for God communion. To fully live to fully live grace enjoy with all that is beauty internal it is possible ~ Ann Voskamp
Where God Is quotes by Ann Voskamp
Nature is a greater and more perfect art, the art of God; though, referred to herself, she is genius; and there is a similarity between her operations and man's art even in the details and trifles. When the overhanging pine drops into the water, by the sun and water, and the wind rubbing it against the shore, its boughs are worn into fantastic shapes, and white and smooth, as if turned in a lathe. Man's art has wisely imitated those forms into which all matter is most inclined to run, as foliage and fruit. ~ Henry David Thoreau
Where God Is quotes by Henry David Thoreau
Though his mind is not for rent
Don't put him down as arrogant
His reserve, a quiet defense
Riding out the day's events

What you say about his company
Is what you say about society
Catch the mist, catch the myth
Catch the mystery, catch the drift

The world is, the world is
Love and life are deep
Maybe as his skies are wide

Today's Tom Sawyer
He gets high on you
And the space he invades
He gets by on you

No his mind is not for rent
To any god or government
Always hopeful, yet discontent
He knows changes aren't permanent
But change is

What you say about his company
Is what you say about society

The world is, the world is
Love and life are deep
Maybe as his eyes are wide

Exit the warrior
Today's Tom Sawyer
He gets high on you
And the energy you trade
He gets right on to the friction of the day ~ Neil Peart
Where God Is quotes by Neil Peart
A whisper loud enough to rise above the world's roar. That is my God. Working through us flawed, impulsive humans. ~ Nadine Brandes
Where God Is quotes by Nadine Brandes
That Kierkegaard was a stimulating and pioneering force precisely because of his neurosis is not surprising since he started out with a conception of God that had a peculiar Protestant bias which he shares with a great many Protestants. To such people his problems and his grizzling are entirely acceptable because to them it serves the same purpose as it served him, you can settle everything in the study and need not do it in life. Out there things are apt to get unpleasant. Neurosis does not produce art. It is uncreative and inimical to life. It is failure and bungling. But the moderns mistake morbidity for creative birth - part of the general lunacy of our time. It is, of course, an unanswerable question what an artist would have created if he had not been neurotic. ~ C.G. Jung
Where God Is quotes by C.G. Jung
God spares us because He is good, but He could not be good if He were not just. ~ Aiden Wilson Tozer
Where God Is quotes by Aiden Wilson Tozer
Spiritual growth is more than a procedure; it's a wild search for God in the tangled jungle of our souls. ~ Michael Yaconelli
Where God Is quotes by Michael Yaconelli
After the 9/11 attacks, when President George W. Bush, in a speech aimed at distinguishing the U.S. from the Muslim fundamentalists, said, "Our God is the God who named the stars." The problem is two-thirds of all the stars that have names, have Arabic names. I don't think he knew this. This would confound the point that he was making. ~ Neil DeGrasse Tyson
Where God Is quotes by Neil DeGrasse Tyson
As to liberty, men would be at their own disposal and live as they please. They suppose the only true liberty is to be at the command and under the control of none above themselves, and live according to their heart's desire. But this is a thralldom and bondage of the worst kind. True liberty is not the power to live as we please, but to live as we ought! Hence, the only One Who has ever trod this earth since Adam's fall that has enjoyed perfect freedom was the Man Christ Jesus, the Holy Servant of God, Whose meat it ever was to do the will of the Father. ~ Arthur W. Pink
Where God Is quotes by Arthur W. Pink
There is a power in public opinion in this country - and I thank God for it: for it is the most honest and best of all powers - which will not tolerate an incompetent or unworthy man to hold in his weak or wicked hands the lives and fortunes of his fellow-citizens. ~ Martin Van Buren
Where God Is quotes by Martin Van Buren
God! ... Isn't the sea what Algy calls it: a great sweet mother? The snotgreen sea. The scrotumtightening sea. Epi oinopa ponton. Ah, Dedalus, the Greeks! I must teach you. You must read them in the original. Thalatta! Thalatta! She is our great sweet mother. Come and look. ~ James Joyce
Where God Is quotes by James Joyce
We expect the world of doctors. Out of our own need, we revere them; we imagine that their training and expertise and saintly dedication have purged them of all the uncertainty, trepidation, and disgust that we would feel in their position, seeing what they see and being asked to cure it. Blood and vomit and pus do not revolt them; senility and dementia have no terrors; it does not alarm them to plunge into the slippery tangle of internal organs, or to handle the infected and contagious. For them, the flesh and its diseases have been abstracted, rendered coolly diagrammatic and quickly subject to infallible diagnosis and effective treatment. The House of God is a book to relieve you of these illusions; it ... displays it as farce, a melee of blunderers laboring to murky purpose under corrupt and platitudinous superiors. ~ John Updike
Where God Is quotes by John Updike
God knows our crooked places that need to be made straight, the wounds in our hearts that fester for years unhealed, the broken pieces of our lives that seem beyond repair. And He who is the author of miracles has infinite desire as well as power to heal them all. ~ Marianne Williamson
Where God Is quotes by Marianne Williamson
Once I prophesied that this generation of Americans had a rendezvous with destiny. That prophecy now comes true. To us much is given; more is expected. This generation will nobly save or mainly lose the last best hope of earth. The way is plain, peaceful, generous just. A way, which if followed, the world will forever applaud, and God must forever bless. ~ Franklin D. Roosevelt
Where God Is quotes by Franklin D. Roosevelt
No one can believe how powerful prayer is and what it can effect, except those who have learned it by experience. Whenever I have prayed earnestly, I have been heard and have obtained more than I prayed for. God sometimes delays, but He always comes. ~ Martin Luther
Where God Is quotes by Martin Luther
the Holy City shall not be moved from its place because God dwells in it and is always ready to bring it help. ~ John Calvin
Where God Is quotes by John Calvin
Religion professor Albert Wolters, in Creation Regained, writes, "[God] hangs on to his fallen original creation and salvages it. He refuses to abandon the work of his hands - in fact, he sacrifices his own Son to save his original project. Humankind, which has botched its original mandate and the whole creation along with it, is given another chance in Christ; we are reinstated as God's managers on earth. The original good creation is to be restored."74 ~ Randy Alcorn
Where God Is quotes by Randy Alcorn
[For men] to feel their souls withering within them, unthanked, to find their whole being sunk into an unrecognized abyss, to be counted off into a heap of mechanism numbered with its wheels, and weighed with its hammer strokes - this, nature bade not, - this, God blesses not, - this, humanity for no long time is able to endure. ~ John Ruskin
Where God Is quotes by John Ruskin
I read through the book of Matthew this evening. I was up all night. I couldn't stop reading so I read through Mark. This Jesus of yours is either a madman or the Son of God. Somewhere in the middle of Mark I realized He was the Son of God. ~ Donald Miller
Where God Is quotes by Donald Miller
As a Christian should do no injuries to others, so he should forgive the injuries that others do to him. It is to be like God, who is a good-giving God, and a sin-forgiving God. ~ Ralph Venning
Where God Is quotes by Ralph Venning
We all have to deal with unexpected tragedies and trauma. Being a believer doesn't exempt you from life's turbulent times.
The Scripture says rain falls on the just and on the unjust. When you find yourself facing a crisis, it's easy to give up your happiness, panic, and fall apart. But you have to realize that crisis is not a surprise to God. It may be unexpected to us, but God knows the end from the beginning. God has solutions to problems that we haven't even had. And God would not have allowed the difficulty unless He had a divine purpose for it. ~ Joel Osteen
Where God Is quotes by Joel Osteen
If all the Churches of Europe closed their doors until the drums ceased rolling they would act as a most powerful reminder that though the glory of war is a famous and ancient glory, it is not the final glory of God. ~ George Bernard Shaw
Where God Is quotes by George Bernard Shaw
He had seen that look in so many eyes lately, not the fear of death but the fear of life. Is it like this? Is it true that it's like this? Oh God, if it's like this what do we do? He had instantly pulled himself together to grapple with her fear.
"It's all right, Prunella," he had said a little wildly. "I tell you it's all right. Life's not this little bit of existence you're plodding through now, it's the whole thing, all that is. It's the breath of God, words that he spoke, a song, a stream of white light that goes back to him again. Life is good ... Life is fine and grand, and we should love it to the depths of our souls. ~ Elizabeth Goudge
Where God Is quotes by Elizabeth Goudge
Sending his emissaries to sinners rather than sinners trying to make their way to God by their own skill, cleverness, imagination, or efforts. God has already accommodated himself to our weakness. He is not far from us, if we will but attend to the ministry of the Word. Therefore, we must resist "the sky's the limit" when it comes to accommodation. The Bible must be read, sung, and preached in the common language of the people, but when we introduce skits, musicals, and puppet shows on the basis of wanting to bring God down to the level of the people, they can only conclude that God has not already accommodated himself sufficiently through the ministry of the Word. ~ Michael S. Horton
Where God Is quotes by Michael S. Horton
That deep emotional conviction of the presence of a superior reasoning power, which is revealed in the incomprehensible universe, forms my idea of God. ~ Albert Einstein
Where God Is quotes by Albert Einstein
It appears that America's anti-Biblical feminist movement is at last dying, thank God, and is possibly being replaced by a Christ-centered men's movement which may become the foundation for a desperately needed national spiritual awakening. ~ Jerry Falwell
Where God Is quotes by Jerry Falwell
Faith is more than a matter of heart alone. The unique position of Transfiguration Sunday and its beautiful theophanies declares that the mountain is never the end of the journey. God does not gather us together just for a divine fireworks display, God always has something to say, usually something to ask. BRIAN ERICKSON ~ Kathleen Long Bostrom
Where God Is quotes by Kathleen Long Bostrom
The great brainwave of the inventors of Christianity: "God is love!" And then? What does it change? You may always preach a god of love to men, they will make use of him to sanctify their villainies and their crimes "for the good fight" as well as the massacres en masse, blessing priests leading the way. ~ Francois Cavanna
