There is no time to plan, there is no space to think. No respite. No forgiveness. There is only war. ~ Warhammer 40 000 Source Book
Warhammer 40k Harlequin quotes by Warhammer 40 000 Source Book
The rewards of tolerance are treachery and betrayal. ~ Games Workshop
Warhammer 40k Harlequin quotes by Games Workshop
The world goes quiet and warm.
I am dying, he thinks, I have failed and there will be nothing left, nothing but ash and hungering darkness.
Something within him dims, fluttering to nothing like a flame fading to cold embers.
He tries to raise his sword.
He is falling…
He was…
… running the ashes of a dead world through his fingers. ~ John French
Warhammer 40k Harlequin quotes by John French
You brothers-such a nest of rivalries. I warned him to make you sisters, that it would make things more civilized. He thought I was joking, I wasn't. - Malcador ~ Chris Wraight
Warhammer 40k Harlequin quotes by Chris Wraight
Everything is darkest," Xaphen mused, "before the dawn."

"That, my brother, is an axiom that sounds immensely profound until you realize it's a lie. ~ Aaron Dembski-Bowden
Warhammer 40k Harlequin quotes by Aaron Dembski-Bowden
But they are many and he is alone.
This has not come to pass yet, he thinks, this is not happening. I am not dying. This is my fate, what shall be. This is the future, it has not happened yet. ~ John French
Warhammer 40k Harlequin quotes by John French
Books aren't made of pages and words. They are made of hopes, dreams and possibilities. ~ Harlequin
Warhammer 40k Harlequin quotes by Harlequin
Repent, Harlequin," said the Ticktock Man. "Get stuffed," the Harlequin replied. ~ Harlan Ellison
Warhammer 40k Harlequin quotes by Harlan Ellison
Let Harlequin be taken with a fit of the colic, and his trappings will have to serve that mood too. ~ Henry David Thoreau
Warhammer 40k Harlequin quotes by Henry David Thoreau
All of creation suffers, young ones. Only in accepting our own mortality can we make a difference. Only in bearing the burden of our failures can we find the strength to go on. Only in detachment from glory, or honour, or jealousy... from life itself can we hope to spare others from grief. We are Doom Eagles. And we are dead already. --
Librarian Secundus Thryn of the Doom Eagles ~ Simon Spurrier
Warhammer 40k Harlequin quotes by Simon Spurrier
What would you know of struggle, perfect son? When have you fought against the mutilation of your mind? When have you had to do anything other than tally compliance's and polish your armor? The people of your world named you "Great One". The people of mine called me slave. Which one of us landed on a paradise of civilization to be raised by a foster father, Roboute? Which one of us was given armies to lead after training in the halls of the Macraggian High Riders? Which one of us inherited a strong, cultured kingdom? And which one of us had to rise up against a kingdom with nothing but a horde of starving slaves? Which one of us was a child enslaved on a world of monsters, with his brain cut up by carving knives? Listen to your blue clad wretches yelling courage and honor, courage and honor, courage and honor! Do you even know the meaning of those words? Courage is fighting the kingdom which enslaves you, no matter that their armies outnumber yours by ten-thousand to one. You know nothing of courage! Honor is resisting a tyrant when all others suckle and grow fat on the hypocrisy he feeds them. You know nothing of honor! ~ Angron, Wahammer 40K
Warhammer 40k Harlequin quotes by Angron, Wahammer 40K
My stories are known for featuring fun, fearless Cosmopolitan-type heroines as well as delicious, dangerous heroes synonymous with Harlequin. Afterburn and Aftershock will be no exception. I'm excited to share these sizzling new romances with readers and to do so hand in hand with Harlequin and Cosmopolitan, beloved brands known for giving women exactly what they want. ~ Sylvia Day
Warhammer 40k Harlequin quotes by Sylvia Day
We know no fear. It was cut from our souls at birth. We can feel it only as an absence, as an empty shadow cast by the light of annihilation. In the face of a future of atrocity I stand mute, numb to the only feeling that would make me human. But I remember what fear was: its cold pulse in my veins; its echo in my ears. I remember fear, and remember that I was once human. I look towards what must come to pass and I wish that I could meet it as my ancestors did, with fear. The future deserves that, it deserves fear. ~ John French
Warhammer 40k Harlequin quotes by John French
As I drifted along with my bodiless invisibility, I felt myself more and more becoming an empty, floating shape, seeing without being seen and walking without the interference of those grosser creatures who shared my world. It was not an experience completely without interest or even pleasure. The clown's shibboleth of "here we are again" took on a new meaning for me as I felt myself a novitiate of a more rarified order of harlequinry. ("The Last Feast Of The Harlequin") ~ Thomas Ligotti
Warhammer 40k Harlequin quotes by Thomas Ligotti
The gods couldn't be trusted. They gave a man everything he wanted, even when he begged them to stop. ~ Josh Reynolds
Warhammer 40k Harlequin quotes by Josh Reynolds
Because it is on the anvil of pain that the gods forge heroes. ~ C.L. Werner
Warhammer 40k Harlequin quotes by C.L. Werner
Goodbye, control," Maggie muttered, her hands trembling with a mix of excitement and nerves. "Hello, fantasy. ~ Sara Jane Stone
Warhammer 40k Harlequin quotes by Sara Jane Stone
Under the pink Harlequin sunglasses strawberry dangling charms, and sugar-frosted eyeshadow she was really almost beautiful. ~ Francesca Lia Block
Warhammer 40k Harlequin quotes by Francesca Lia Block
A world of death is a world of stagnation, without the change that makes it worthwhile. What you call uncertainty, I call life itself. ~ Graham McNeill
Warhammer 40k Harlequin quotes by Graham McNeill
The good thing about being with a woman who has amnesia is that the conversation gets to be all about you ~ Carla Cassidy
Warhammer 40k Harlequin quotes by Carla Cassidy
Sometimes waiting makes the culmination that much sweeter. ~ Lynn Raye Harris
Warhammer 40k Harlequin quotes by Lynn Raye Harris
Why can I remember eggplant, when I can't remember my own name?! ~ Carla Cassidy
Warhammer 40k Harlequin quotes by Carla Cassidy
After a dozen deaths, you learn not to care. After a hundred, you can't even if you wanted to. ~ C.L. Werner
Warhammer 40k Harlequin quotes by C.L. Werner

Warhammer 40k Harlequin quotes by Tom Spanbauer
Lord don't hold Your tender mercies from me. Let Your unfailing love and faithfulness always protect me. ~ Jessica R. Patch
Warhammer 40k Harlequin quotes by Jessica R. Patch
A virgin priest. His idea of what relationship with a man should be like was probably something out of a Harlequin romance-but with a sex change for the heroine. ~ Marshall Thornton
Warhammer 40k Harlequin quotes by Marshall Thornton
The instant Isabella Cortez left the safety of the FBI building, goose bumps skittered across her skin and her senses went on high alert. ~ Elizabeth Heiter
Warhammer 40k Harlequin quotes by Elizabeth Heiter
If I express an interest in Giotto and yarn bombing, Bach and Lady Gaga, I am well-rounded. But if I read Thomas Mann and Harlequin…I must be slipping. ~ Megan Mulry
Warhammer 40k Harlequin quotes by Megan Mulry
You play because you have a guilty attraction to supernatural beasts and harlequin love stories, but you harbour the secret presumption that you could write them way better yourself. Good. This is your opportunity to prove it. ~ Avery Alder
Warhammer 40k Harlequin quotes by Avery Alder
Watch-see, Holy One, my grave-rats will kill-kill all dead-things. We show-tell Fester-rats how to fight. Show-tell why Fester-rats should stay true to Horned One. ~ C.L. Werner
Warhammer 40k Harlequin quotes by C.L. Werner
Heart isn't something you find in soap operas and Harlequin novels. It's that pure essence–sheltered deep inside–that occasionally makes its way to the surface. Give heed lest it ever trend to waste. ~ James D. Maxon
Warhammer 40k Harlequin quotes by James D. Maxon
Nine people had died today. And it didn't matter what the FBI had thought of her actions. Her career as a negotiator had ended before it had even begun. ~ Elizabeth Heiter
Warhammer 40k Harlequin quotes by Elizabeth Heiter
Regard the books,' Sinderman said,
'Are there some I should read? Will you prepare a list for me?' (asked Loken)
'Read them all. Read them again. Swallow the learning and ideas of our predecessors whole, for it can only improve you as a man... ~ Dan Abnett
Warhammer 40k Harlequin quotes by Dan Abnett
So I fight for a Father who I never loved, against a brother that I did. I defend an empire that never wanted me against an army that would have taken me in a heartbeat. ~ Chris Wraight
Warhammer 40k Harlequin quotes by Chris Wraight
The ferocity of her passion was what he'd been waiting for night after torturous night. He wanted her to hunger the way he hungered. To need like he needed. ~ Melissa Cutler
Warhammer 40k Harlequin quotes by Melissa Cutler
The dead do not squabble as this land's rulers do. The dead do not fight one another. The dead have no desires, no petty jealousies or ambitions. A world of the dead is a world at peace… ~ Graham McNeill
Warhammer 40k Harlequin quotes by Graham McNeill
She tells me life is a story. We can make it a Harlequin romance, a mistery, a memoir. We can make it pamphlet-size or an ongoing series.
"I want mine to be exceptional", she says. ~ Katie Kacvinsky
Warhammer 40k Harlequin quotes by Katie Kacvinsky
To be honest, I chose romance because writing a book seemed so dauntingly long. I looked around for something short, discovered Harlequin romances, and decided to read a few to see if I could do it. ~ Lori Wilde
Warhammer 40k Harlequin quotes by Lori Wilde
Unfortunately for me, most of the books I'd want to reprint were written for savvy publishers like Harlequin and Berkley who have held on to electronic rights. But I do have another option: Publish new e-books myself. ~ Ruth Glick
Warhammer 40k Harlequin quotes by Ruth Glick
He wasn't aware of it but when he smiled he looked like an amiable bear. When he didn't smile he didn't look amiable ~ Emma Goldrick
Warhammer 40k Harlequin quotes by Emma Goldrick
It'd been a long time since they'd been together, but as close as they were physically, they'd never been so far apart in every other way. ~ Jennifer Faye
Warhammer 40k Harlequin quotes by Jennifer Faye
My mind is my weapon. My brother has his sword, King Robert has his warhammer, and I have my mind ... and a mind needs books as a sword needs a whetstone, if it is to keep its edge. Tyrion ~ George R R Martin
Warhammer 40k Harlequin quotes by George R R Martin
Perhaps everything you say is true and these are the death throes of the human race, but even if that was true, I would not lose faith. There must be hope, and I must fight for my Emperor against Chaos and it's servants.

That is insanity.

Wrong, it's being human. ~ Ben Counter
Warhammer 40k Harlequin quotes by Ben Counter
[Myrnin to Claire about their costumes of Pierrot and Harlequin, respectively]
"Don't they teach you anything in your schools?"
"Not about this."
"Pity. I suppose that's what comes of your main education flowing from Google. ~ Rachel Caine
Warhammer 40k Harlequin quotes by Rachel Caine
I was the kind of reader in smudged pink harlequin glasses sitting on the cool, dusty floor of the Arrandale public library, standing at the edge of the playground, having broken a tooth in dodge ball, and lying under my covers with a flashlight. ~ Amy Bloom
Warhammer 40k Harlequin quotes by Amy Bloom
How do you and your mother manage to get your hair exactly the same shade? It's uncanny."

"I'll have you know, I'm a natural blonde!"

"How could I know that? You wouldn't let me turn the lights on. ~ Kara Lennox
Warhammer 40k Harlequin quotes by Kara Lennox
After all these years, he couldn't believe he'd recognized her so instantly. He prayed that she wouldn't recognize him, but as her eyes widened, he knew she had.
"Marcos?" she breathed.
And his worst nightmare came true. His cover was blown. ~ Elizabeth Heiter
Warhammer 40k Harlequin quotes by Elizabeth Heiter
Here's the deal. Willi's bought the rights to a paperback best-seller called The White Slaver. It's a piece of formulized shit written for illiterate fourteen-year-olds and the kind of lobotomized housewife that lines up to buy the new Harlequin romances each month. Jack-off material for intellectual quadriplegics. Naturally ~ Dan Simmons
Warhammer 40k Harlequin quotes by Dan Simmons
Up! Up into man-thing nest! Up to their streets and their cellars! Up to their granaries and their stockyards! Up to their homes and their temples! All-all belongs to Rictus! All-all belongs to Vecteek! ~ C.L. Werner
Warhammer 40k Harlequin quotes by C.L. Werner
They say he is elusive,' he said. 'You will hear that a lot. But listen: he is not elusive; he is at the centre. Wherever he is, that is the centre. He will seem to have broken the circle, drifted to the edge, right until the end, and then you will see that the world has come to him, and he has been waiting for it all along. ~ Chris Wraight
Warhammer 40k Harlequin quotes by Chris Wraight
The skaven will not prevail! Here they will be broken, shattered upon our steel! They fight for domination, to sate their greed. We fight for our homes, for our families, for those we would keep safe from the horrors of Old Night. It is our cause that is just; it is our fight that is righteous! ~ C.L. Werner
Warhammer 40k Harlequin quotes by C.L. Werner
It is a terrifying thing when the animals laugh at the hunter. Take a tip from Harlequin and the Joker. If you imitate a fool well, you are not likely to be fooled by others. To be it bluntly, albeit unorginally: A fool who knows he is a fool is indeed a wise man. ~ Anton Szandor LaVey
Warhammer 40k Harlequin quotes by Anton Szandor LaVey
I hate these affairs", he'd told her once, tearing up an engraved invitation to an exclusive charity ball. "They're the worst kind of discrimination. An invitation doesn't really mean that you're invited; it means that a whole lot of people aren't ~ Melinda Cross
Warhammer 40k Harlequin quotes by Melinda Cross
He also had deep brown eyes, light brown skin and an infectious grin, even in the middle of a grueling SWAT workout. In short, exactly her type. If only he wasn't a teammate, making him off-limits. And if only she didn't have baggage from her past that weighed more than he did. ~ Elizabeth Heiter
Warhammer 40k Harlequin quotes by Elizabeth Heiter
All good stories must have religion, royalty, sex, and mystery. She figured she'd have a good two hours to read her Harlequin," said my grandmother. "Well, little Suzy walked up to her desk one minute later, said she was finished, and handed her the paper. 'That's impossible,' said the teacher, who looked down and read the story: 'My god, said the Princess, I'm pregnant, whodunit? ~ Holly Morris
Warhammer 40k Harlequin quotes by Holly Morris
Only love of a good woman will make a man question every choice, every action. Only love makes a warrior hesitate for fear that his lady will find him cruel. Only love makes a man both the best he will ever be, and the weakest. Sometimes all in the same moment. -Wicked ~ Laurell K. Hamilton
Warhammer 40k Harlequin quotes by Laurell K. Hamilton
This is not our home. We can turn away and leave it to the skaven. We can abandon our brothers to slavery and atrocity at the paws of these beasts. We can go crawling back to Middenland. And when the skaven again come, when they bring this great horror against our homes, who will there be to stand with us? Who will help us fight? No, it is here we make our stand. A man can die but once. Do we die on our feet or on our knees? ~ C.L. Werner
Warhammer 40k Harlequin quotes by C.L. Werner
A multitude of harlequin lifeforms bobbed and twirled and played in the depths of the Atlantic. Pink cucumbers with thorny backs. Algae. Starfish. Annelids with simple brains and a hundred toes. Sponges - like yellow, swollen hands - sucked in water and pushed out oxygen. Most amusing were the mysterious buggers who had no likeness on the previous earth; tiny beasts with exotic exoskeletons engraved with deep grid-like patterns, snails with horns, and slithering plants that looked like magenta weeping willows. ~ Jake Vander Ark
Warhammer 40k Harlequin quotes by Jake Vander Ark
He made a wild gesture as if to knock the old man's hat off, called out something like "Catch me if you can," and went racing away across the white, open Circus. Concealment was impossible now; and looking back over his shoulder, he could see the black figure of the old gentleman coming after him with long, swinging strides like a man winning a mile race. But the head upon that bounding body was still pale, grave and professional, like the head of a lecturer upon the body of a harlequin. ~ G.K. Chesterton
Warhammer 40k Harlequin quotes by G.K. Chesterton
Her face flushed, her eyes flared and she poked him in the chest. "Ach, I had nae caution, you brastling gaupie! What about you? You recklessly left the sword out when there are children around!"

Anger crackled in every fibre of her body. He felt it. He saw it in the flash of her hair, the light of her eyes. But she was standing right in front of him and she was so very whole.

"Reckless!" He grabbed her arms and yanked her to him. "I'll show you reckless! ~ Nicole Locke
Warhammer 40k Harlequin quotes by Nicole Locke
Pierrot. How . . . odd for you. You're much more the Harlequin, I should think.'
'I've always thought that Pierrot was the secretly dangerous one,' Myrnin said. 'All that
innocence must hide something.'
Bishop laughed. 'I've missed you, fool.'
'Truly? Odd. I haven't missed you at all, my lord.'
That stopped Bishop's laughter in its tracks, and Claire felt the fear close around her, like
suffocating cold. 'Ah, I remember now why you ceased to amuse, Myrnin. You use
honesty like a club.'
'I thought it more like a rapier, lord. ~ Rachel Caine
Warhammer 40k Harlequin quotes by Rachel Caine
I started to respond, but Bambi slithered up and placed its horse-sized head on my shoulder. Every muscle in my body locked up and I squeezed my eyes shut. There was a puff of air, stirring the hair along my temple. Bambi's forked tongue shot out, tickling the side of my neck.
"Hey, look, Bambi likes you."
I pried one eye open.
"And if she didn't?"
"Oh, you'd know, 'cause she would've eaten you by now."
Armentrout, Jennifer L. (2014-03-01). White Hot Kiss (The Dark Elements Book 1) (p. 255). Harlequin. Kindle Edition. ~ Jennifer L. Armentrout
Warhammer 40k Harlequin quotes by Jennifer L. Armentrout
These things were in the past now, many long years ago, though the memory remained as solid and present as his heartbeats. Time's passage had made the events seem almost crazed, hyper-real, stretched across a surreal dreamscape that felt more like a skjald's embellished saga than the intact past. Perhaps it had not happened like that. Perhaps the Lion had taken his Stormbirds to the Tyrant's fortress, and he himself had teleported in. Perhaps it had not been Ogvai there, but Gunn, or someone else. Had Bjorn been there too? It was a long time ago, so doubtful, but Bjorn seemed to always have been there, right from the start, just waiting for his time to come to maturity. ~ Chris Wraight
Warhammer 40k Harlequin quotes by Chris Wraight
Shut up." She put her finger to his lips, and his voice choked off. She said slowly, "I've learned I can live without you."
Kasimir's heart cracked inside his chest. He'd lost her. She was going to send him away, back into the bleak winter.
"But I've also learned," Josie whispered, "that I don't want to." Her brown eyes were suddenly warm, like the sky after a sudden spring storm. "I tried to stop loving you. But once I love someone, I love for life." Her lips lifted in a trembling smile. "I'm stubborn that way. ~ Jennie Lucas
Warhammer 40k Harlequin quotes by Jennie Lucas
We are all damaged now,' said Arvida, watching the approach. 'All but you.' Yesugei sat back against the curve of the hull. 'No living thing is undamaged.' 'Yet you still smile. You still believe.' 'So do the rest. They need to remember, that is all. For now, all they see is slow defeat. They forget they have been... magnificent. They fight alone when all others are lost or manning walls far away. They come at enemy out of the glare of the sun. They have made him halt, turn back, come after us. They have forsaken the world they loved, have let it pass into ruin, all for this.' Yesugei thought of Qin Xa then, from whom there had never been a murmur of unbelief. 'They will remember, before the end. Other Legions have failed this test – they let their souls change. ~ Chris Wraight
Warhammer 40k Harlequin quotes by Chris Wraight
Only one advantage still remained to Mandred, an edge that Vrrmik could never take from him. The soldiers who marched behind his banner were men and it was the hearts of men that beat within their breasts, hearts that could be moved to selflessness, could be stirred to valour and fired with courage. However numerous Vrrmik's horde, they were skaven, they were cringing beasts driven by fear and greed, incapable of believing in anything more vital than their own skins. Terror and avarice were the forces that drove them on, but such things could only stretch so far, overcome only so much. Mandred's troops could endure more than Vrrmik's monsters. That was the one strength the skaven could never equal. ~ C.L. Werner
Warhammer 40k Harlequin quotes by C.L. Werner
Sulien held up the broken spear, one piece in each hand. "A warhammer did this?"
"You saw that hammer the Lightning almost hit Addolgar with. And that's not even the one he uses during battles. That one is bloody huge. Nearly as
big as the bastard's head."
Her father chuckled and stepped around her. "The only purpose of this spear was to protect you - and it did. Its job is now done." He started to
throw the pieces into a bin he kept for trash.
"Don't you dare throw that out."
"Why not? It's broken, and repairing it would be useless. It'l only break again."
"But you made it for me."
"You cling to what is meaningless, child. Just like your mother sometimes, only with her it's mostly grudges. ~ G.A. Aiken
Warhammer 40k Harlequin quotes by G.A. Aiken
The clown figure has had so many meanings in different times and cultures. The jolly, well-loved joker familiar to most people is actually but one aspect of this protean creature. Madmen, hunchbacks, amputees, and other abnormals were once considered natural clowns; they were elected to fulfill a comic role which could allow others to see them as ludicrous rather than as terrible reminders of the forces of disorder in the world. But sometimes a cheerless jester was required to draw attention to this same disorder, as in the case of King Lear's morbid and honest fool, who of course was eventually hanged, and so much for his clownish wisdom. Clowns have often had ambiguous and sometimes contradictory roles to play. ("The Last Feast Of The Harlequin") ~ Thomas Ligotti
Warhammer 40k Harlequin quotes by Thomas Ligotti
Got a broom?" "The one I use for sweeping or the one I ride on?" Aurora tilted her head and pierced him with a maybe sort of accusing glare. So that's what she assumed he thought of her. Hardly. He wasn't sure what to think. This was the longest he'd spent in a room with her other than a courtroom, and they didn't converse much inside. Besides, he never allowed himself to see her as anything but the enemy. Now, she was a target who trusted him to protect her. And that's exactly what he planned to do. "Sweeping will be fine." He smirked. "I don't want to put you out a vehicle."

Jessica R. Patch (2017-01-15T06:00:00+00:00). Final Verdict (Kindle Locations 202-206). Harlequin. Kindle Edition. ~ Jessica R. Patch
Warhammer 40k Harlequin quotes by Jessica R. Patch
The lion snorted. 'You treat all as a game. That is why they sent for me - Malcador cannot trust you. No one can trust you. Your Legion is a rabble that would brawl among themselves if you were not there to smack their heads together.' 'If only they were more like yours,' said Russ, mockingly. 'Yes,' replied the Lion, exasperated. 'Yes. Is that so hard to imagine?'

Russ loosened his arms, letting Krakenmaw swing lazily before him. 'I know why you do this. I know why you conquer, world after world, driving your sons after every campaign Malcador finds for you. But our father won't do it, brother. He won't choose a favourite. And if He did, it wouldn't be you - it would be Sanguinius, or Rogal, or Horus. So you're wasting yourself, trying to be noticed. It doesn't work like that.'

The Lion let slip a scornful laugh. 'Not all of us are so without friends in the Palace, Leman, and you have no idea who our father favours. ~ Chris Wraight
Warhammer 40k Harlequin quotes by Chris Wraight
In an instant, five harlequin-like clowns emerged and began to perform all kinds of acrobatic tricks, encircling us––correction...corralling us. They were graceful but a little creepy too. They were wearing black and white costumes that were form fitting and appeared to move like some psychedelic drug trip when they flipped around. That of course was odd, but not nearly as odd as the chant they were singing as they continued to perform their tricks.
See us dance.
Watch us flip.
Care to take a chance?
We'll only need a sip.
Come to see our mistress?
Or come to see our master?
She can be quite viscous.
But he is a disaster.
We love them both, and we'll let you choose.
Either way, we wouldn't want to be in your shoes. ~ Brynn Myers
Warhammer 40k Harlequin quotes by Brynn Myers
The Hall of Tra was cold and lightless. His wolf-eye caught the ghost radiation of barely smouldering firepits. In terms of heat and light, the Wolves were making no allowances for human tolerances of comfort. They had given him a pelt and an eye to see through the dark with. What more could he want? He realised he wasn't alone. The company was all around him. Their body heat was barely detectable, dimmer than the dull firepits. The Hall was a massive natural cavern, ragged and irregular, and the Astartes were ranged around it, huddled and coiled in their furs, as immobile as a sibling pack of predators, gone to ground overnight, dormant and pressed close for warmth. Faces cowled by animal skin hoods were watching his approach. There were occasional grumbles and murmurs, like animals growling in their sleep or tussling over bones. As his eye resolved the scene better, the Upplander saw some evidence of movement. He saw hands casually raise silver bowls and dishes so that men could sip black liquid from them. He saw hunched shapes engaged in the counter game, hneftafl, that the Upplander had seen Skarsi playing. ~ Dan Abnett
Warhammer 40k Harlequin quotes by Dan Abnett
The necklace, Marcos," she said firmly, leveling the gun at his heart once more. "I'll take it now."

"It's not here, querida. You waste your time."

Francesca lowered the gun to point at his groin. "Killing you would be too good. Perhaps I will simply have to deprive the female world of your ability to make love ever again. I am quite a good shot, I assure you."

She'd learned out of necessity. And though she never wanted to harm another human being, she had no compunction about making this man think she would do so if it meant she could save Jacques.

His voice dropped to a growl. A hateful, angry growl. "You won't get away with this. Whoever you are, Frankie, I will find you. I will find you and make you wish you'd never met me."

Her heart flipped in her chest. She ignored it. "I already wish that. Now give me the jewel before you lose the ability to ever have children."

Bitterness twisted inside her as she said those words. Ironic to threaten someone with something she would never wish on another soul. But she had to be hard, cold, ruthless – just like he was.

He stared at her in impotent fury, his jaw grinding, his beautiful black eyes flashing daggers at her. Very slowly, he reached up with one hand and slipped his bowtie free of its knot.

Then he jerked it loose and let it fall. ~ Lynn Raye Harris
